Hey soldiers and outlaws, welcome to my interest check for The Village At The End of the World, a large-group, high-casual RP inspired by the video game Darkest Dungeon! Familiarity with the game is -not- required; we're only taking the premise / aesthetic, not any of the characters or the specific story beats.

The idea is this: Sharnwick used to be a quiet seaside hamlet. Far from any major cities, with only one road to connect it to the rest of civilization, the people of the town used to live lives of relative peace and quiet, hunting, tilling the soil, and producing what they needed for themselves. The town was owned by the Alissac family, a wealthy and respected house that mostly left the smallfolk of their lands to themselves.

Of course, something has changed. The Alissacs have disappeared, leaving behind a manor and a fiefdom swarming with evil. Though the circumstances of the Alissac's hellish bargain are not clear, it seems the price has come due, and all the world will suffer for it. The dead rise from their crypts, monsters stalk the shadows of the forest, teeming horrors churn in the black waters of the sea. Adventurers from far and wide now travel to Sharnwick, seeking redemption, answers, or perhaps simply lured by the promise of gold. Invited by the last of the Alissacs, a young man who has journeyed home at the behest of his ancestors to confront the evil they unleashed, this motley crew of erstwhile heroes is all that stands against the spreading darkness. As for the townsfolk of Sharnwick, where are they to go? Blacksmiths and soldiers, alchemists and herbalists, bakers and warlocks, their destinies are now intertwined, here in the Village at the End of the World...

So, the main conceit of this RP is that everyone involved will play two characters - one, a 'hero' who has come to the town to combat the evil, the other, a civilian resident of the town. Heroes will protect the town, go on missions and expeditions into the darkness (which will often be pretty brutal), and interact with the townsfolk in their offtime, while townsfolk will interact with each other and the heroes, tend to whatever services they provide and whatever difficulties come up, and generally try not to get killed. I'd potentially be interested in one or two other co-gms, to help me keep track of things as well as manage the various oppositional forces arrayed against the heroes.

The thing I remember most about Darkest Dungeon is how tense the combat is. It's a game where a few bad rolls can spell the end of a party no matter how careful the player. But this is in Casual rather than Dice. How are you planning to deal with the combat?

Depends on how people want to handle it. I'd be open to incorporating dice mechanics if that was a popular idea, to put a bit more oomph in the combat portions - otherwise, it could be handled by text just fine. Either way, I wouldn't want this game to be quite as lethal as Darkest Dungeon, since the focus is on that juicy juicy character development.

I'm interested. I have no clue what Darkest Dungeon is, but as you stated knowledge of the game is not required so I'll dive in. I can help with keeping things in order and whatnot if need be, I don't mind. :) Character development is always fun.
