To the public, he's a successful subject of CADMUS's Superhuman Enhancement Program, which aims to give superpowers to ordinary people. His abilities are merely based on Superman's own. - P O S T C A T A L O G P O S T C A T A L O G - P O S T C A T A L O G βββββββββββββββ βΌ - | C H A R A C T E R C O N C E P T C H A R A C T E R C O N C E P T Superboy was born in a glass womb with a syringe and petri dish for parents. He was the firstborn son of CADMUS International, a rapidly rising conglomerate that got its start as a biopharmaceutical company at the cutting edge of genetic engineering and genome editing. The ambitions of their founder, Dr. Paul Westfield, stretched far further than medicine, however. He was engrossed with the metahuman phenomena and Superman in-particular, pouring his heart and soul into unlocking the alien's genetic potential. That obsession bore fruit and it would come to be called Superboy. His 'birth' radically altered the company's direction. They hired teams of PR consultants, marketing experts and social media gurus to design the Superboy's persona from the ground up. His appearance, personality and very being were all shaped for one, specific mission: to sell the public- and national governments- on homegrown superheroes. Four months later, Superboy is a household name. He has one of the largest social media followings of any public superhero. He's appeared on late night TV, national news, and even a certain comedian and DMT enthusiast's podcast. They've got him on soda ads, pajamas and charity campaigns. A drone-based film crew ensures all of his heroics are publicized, from the planned events to the spontaneous battles with low-grade villains. He's even had team-ups with the Avengers! Rumor has it there's a documentary series in the works that'll reveal the real, grungy underbelly of what its like to be a superhero-- on CADMUS's exclusive streaming service, of course. For all the power, fame and wealth at his fingertips, Superboy couldn't be more dissatisfied. He's no idiot- he knows he's a product from a test tube meant to push an agenda. CADMUS has him shaking hands and signing autographs when he oughta be helping people- Superman doesn't do media tours. They might call him family, might show him their twisted version of appreciation, but he doesn't have parents. Can't have real relationships. He yearns for...something more. P L O T ( S ) & G O A L ( S ) P L O T ( S ) & G O A L ( S ) Superboy was my old ID on the Guild for a reason: I absolutely adore this character. As a real young kid Superman was always my favorite superhero, and he was strangely both something to aspire toward and yet too perfect to ever attain. Then along came Superboy, the living representation of that idea- and I was hooked. This iteration of the character is my modernized take on the character, shifting him to be the closest real world analogue we have to the superhero: influencers and celebrities. Itβs a take on the genre weβve seen before- The Boys is an obvious inspiration- but not in these One Universe games. Iβm hoping to tackle some big capital-T-themes this time around: all the expected SciFi trappings on artificially created lifeforms, corporate power and influencer culture. Give it a spicing of coming-of-age teen drama and youβve got yourself a decently meaty story. Donβt let any of that distract you from the hitting things and all the shitty one-liners. My biggest hope is that somebody comes along and applied for the the big, blue Boy Scout, but I made sure the concept could stand on its own two legs without Superman as a player character- all it really demands is that he exists and is somewhat notable as a figure. Iβm eternally down as fuck for an eventual forming of the Teen Titans or some other group of young fuckups as thatβs the environment the character thrives in the most, but Iβll be more than happy with the occasional team up. For this beginning stretch of the game Superboy is undoubtedly a ROAMING character, but Iβll be running through a Cadmus plot in his solo stints to develop him as a character and thereβs a very good chance that could balloon into a full blown plot, turning him into a DRIVING character for at least one arc. @Sep Yeah it's mostly that I'm suffering from decision paralysis/choice overload right now, so if getting "big names" covered is something you all want, I can oblige.
@Hound55 I was thinking of either Spawn or Invincible, to narrow it down a good bit.

I think it matters far more to me that you play someone you A) want to play and then B) have longevity with. That matters more than filling any perceived holes or obligations.

Xavier has dedicated his life to the pursuit of mutant rights in the United States, and indeed, the world abroad. After decades of effort, Xavier's dream of human and mutant harmony seems to finally be coming to fruition.
What started as a school for troubled mutant youths, running out of Charles' ancestral family home - Xavier's School For Gifted Youngsters - has evolved into a sprawling campus dedicated to the betterment of mutants worldwide -- The Xavier Institute. Through the Institute, Xavier and his team are able to personally feed, house, and educate over a thousand mutants in the surrounding Lehnsherr Village, and provide support for those mutants that choose to live elsewhere.
Since the early days of the school, Xavier has operated the X-Men, an all-volunteer team of the best and brightest mutants Xavier had ever encountered. Starting as a clandestine effort to shield persecuted mutants, The X-Men have evolved into a full-blown super-team, battling alongside the Justice League and Avengers. Now organized into a dozen sub-squads, many of which have chosen to take their own names (X-Factor, X-Force, etc.), the X-Men are one of the world's most recognizable names in superheroics.
It is this popularity that has allowed Xavier to expand his efforts. With help from the business acumen of fellow mutant and original X-Man Warren Worthington III, The Xavier Institute have launched lines of X-Men merchandise, including action figures, apparel, and graphic novels, all created by mutants, for mutants. The additional funding allows the Institute to grow each year, accepting more mutants and bolstering activism initiatives.
With this level of reach, Xavier's dreams have only grown. He imagines a world where the Xavier Institute can help not only mutants, but metahumanity as a whole -- much to Lehnsherr's chagrin. To this end, The Xaiver Institute maintains mutant liaisons within the Justice League, the UN, and even the Avengers -- though this leaves the Institute in a precarious position with regards to the US Government's meta registration initiatives.P L O T ( S ) & G O A L ( S ):In terms of my motivations for this character, I'm interested in working with lots of people, and I think the set-up of a very far-along X-Men will help me to do just that. I don't have much experience with comic X-Men (most of my knowledge comes from the movies and cartoons), but I know they have an incredibly vast history and cast to work with. Given the extremely collaborative nature of this game, it seems like an unprecedented opportunity to really dive in the the X-Men. And, this way, rather than just one having all the X-Fun, the whole community can dive in!
The heart of the conflict here is the fundamental disagreement between Xavier and Lehnsherr. The details need not be exactly as described above; all I'm really looking for is classic X-Men stuff. At the end of the day, these men want the same thing, but disagree on the most ethical way to get there. I think in this instance I'd like to see an Erik Lehnsherr that starts from a more moderate position, but grows more extreme over time; but the Magneto is your oyster.
Overall I'd like to de-emphasize mutant persecution and oppression from exterior human forces. I'm much more interested in the interior of the mutant community, and the disagreements within it. Do all mutants think the existence of the X-Men is a good thing? How do they feel about the Institute's monetization of their team, their history, and their culture, even if that money is reinvested into mutant interests? Where is the line between meta and mutant?
As big as those themes are, I'd still love to tackle them in a very comic book way -- with super folks in silly outfits beating the absolute tar out of each other. I'm open to all kinds of stories for the X-Men, and in fact, I'd like to see as many supporting characters as possible! With the exception of Magneto, I think the idea overall is to have many supporting characters from many different writers, even if each can only stick around for a short arc or even a tiny handful of posts.C H A R A C T E R N O T E S:Working with me, you should know that I'm a planner, not a pantser. I feel kind of indecisive rn. I quite like idea of maybe going with a Daredevil or a Black Widow. And as for X-Men characters maybe an X-23 or a Nightcrawler, or even someone like Storm. Hard decisions...
<Snipped quote by Kyoka>
If you're indecisive, I'm sure plenty of players (myself included) would be happy for you to come into our arcs with whatever characters you so choose as supports. If you were so inclined, you could probably take several of those characters out for test drives as supports before committing to one as a driver or roaming.
