Well, it certainly would revolve around one person. oof. well if that is the case write about the companies expansion and hick-ups through the way if you want something simple.

Edit: basically try to focus on what the corp had to do after facing a problem it doesn't need to involve its CEO just its goons having to deal with problems.

I designed her as a foil to Mr House. They're both robotics geniuses ruling over their own state, but House is an old man with an economy based on services, who's quite isolationist and desires to rule as an autocrat. May is a young woman with an economy based on goods, who is expansionist and wants to rule quietly, from the shadows.

yeah, its gonna be Goon's history most of the time most history generally focus on what a society/faction/nation faced in other words how it began how it got here, and all of that you just need to focus on the overall stakes not on what a person did if it gets to needing that its generally falls under power struggles i am using very broad terms history is complicated like hell.

I hope this explains my problem in that the narrative focuses too much on one character, rather than a state.

Well, looking at all of this above, this actually seems like a remarkably easy fix: She's relying a lot on people to do a lot of the basic functions of her company for her. Just in that paragraph alone, May has to deal with:

  • The mercenaries, and the captains/leaders thereof, which she would have to pay what I imagine are exponentially-rising costs to maintain and enforce her bidding in the region.
  • Every manager of each branch she operates in - Including robotics, caravaneering, water, agriculture, salvage, guns, and all of these other branches - all of whom would want payment in accord.
  • Trying to outright assassinate or just off any one of them would inevitably result in nepotistic feuds for May's favor, and also a constant shortage of leadership, knowledge, and experience, as the position is put through a blending glass door.
  • This same liquidation also would very quickly paint a target on the back of the company as a whole, which in turn would divide its mid-level leadership along pro and anti-May lines.

Though, as far as "Bandit organizations masquerading under the guise of a company" goes, I can't say I dislike the premise as a whole.

Don't mention it. As I implied, I think the most straightforward way to approach it would be to divide the company's management between people who just wanna keep their job, eat, and not have to worry about getting two .45's in the back of their skulls, and the management that thinks that May's just going to run the company straight into a crater if they don't step in to do something about it.

I'm also happy to suggest other industries and the like the company could be involved in - Quebec manufactures a lot of aircraft and generally aluminum products, plus lotsa alloys (esp. copper and aluminum alloys).

I would also emphasize the noise that being completely cutthroat would create. the Quebec region has some neighbors that might be interested in intervening against bad behaviors/actions that make a lot of political noise.

Ok Doki folks, I'm joining with a heavily first-nations infused group in direct conflict with Ronto and to a lesser extent the Consortium in Minnesota/Wisconscin/Ontario. Sheet's up in just a moment.

<Snipped quote by Yam I Am>

I envisioned them being in tatters, but I'm not 100% stuck to that.

<Snipped quote by Jeddaven>
I don't think it's out of the picture for them to be on their last legs by the end of Fallout 3. With the BoS' expansion and the Lone Wanderer doing a number on them, I could see it being a case to where they'd be firmly on their back heel...or successfully integrated into the BoS.

I was gonna leave it up to the final verdict of @Crusader Lord, since they'd have the most control over that area as it stands.

What Yam said is basically the case for the most part. Talon Company would not have been allowed to just shoot the place up as Sarah's BoS went to secure the Capital Wasteland, but not simply gunned down on sight outright either. I can imagine a number looked at the prospect of full-paying official work and took the chance, whilst those who don't want to give up the merc life either fought back (and lost) or were driven out in the end.

I'd venture to say most were incorporated into the BoS and as local Republic troops otherwise, and a minority fought back only to get shot up hard and either die or be driven out. Anyone left would be a small handful at best, probably living that mercenary life away from the Capital Wasteland but tempted to go Raider.

Or at least this is all that I imagined would have happened to them. If Yam wants to rule some otherwise, like them being fully integrated or dead at this point to keep things simpler, then I'm chill.

@Andreyich I believe @Yam I Am has done it. Also, @FalloutJack Something to keep in mind is that the Iroquois Confederacy, where the Grand Confederacy draws a lot from, has a lot of pre-war tribal ties to the Cherokees, who live in the areas your Enclave now inhabit. If you mistreat the local tribals, the Confederacy will be pissed. If you don't, the confederacy will merely be extremley concerned at having the government come back to mistreat them all over again.

@Irredeemable Number One's Enclave recruits wasteland humans. They are significantly less picky about people (humans, anyway), and they've been a bit more choosey with their battles. Like...Number One took a look at the report about the Arroyo attack, the one that led to the destruction of the Poseidon Oil Rig and overrun of the Navarro base because some kid happened to descend a particular Vault Dweller, and went "Well, we're not repeating THAT shit again.". No, the tribals are only getting shot at if they start hucking spears at my boys. And even then, they'd have to actually do more than ding the paint job.

@FalloutJack

I'm not going to comment one way or another on a Cherokee Nation because that's design space someone else might want to use, but the long and short of it is that if the Enclave is acting in a 'reasonable' manner with the tribals, the Confederacy is going to be highly suspicious of them, but not against making deals. The only thing is that they've got enough historical knowledge to know what happens when natives make deals with the American Government, and so they're always going to have a gun pointed at the Enclave, no matter how cordial relations are.

For interactions, i'd talk to @Jeddaven and @DX3214, since they'd be your immediate neighbors in the region.

@Irredeemable btw, I'm pretty sure Cockburne's army would have run into the natives quite a lot on their long march from the West to the Midwest and East (especially when they were needing to replenish their losses from slaughtering the Chicago Enclave) so there's probably some common history. Most likely the muties kidnapped some people for FEV dipping but now try to sort of make amends to allow some measure of trade to go down, or if not then continue the usual business

@Andreyich

The Confederacy has a long memory, and some of their numbers have also made a trek from west to east (specifically some Pacific North-Western tribes have joined the Confederacy) so even if Cockburne's army tried to make amends, they'd find themselves quite rapidly facing the wrong end of Confederacy miniguns. Definitely some common history there though.
