I am about 70% done with this post but I've realized this isn't the direction I want to go with it. I'm going to see what I can do to switch some things around to get this posted tonight. If I don't get it up tonight that means I've decided to scrap the whole post and start from scratch tomorrow. We'll see, though. I really like parts of it, and want to save those, but it just doesn't fit my overall vision. I don't want my previous and future narrative tones to clash, which as of right now I feel this post would cause.
I've caught up on the IC, and I'm looking next to recap myself on character sheets to know where our remaining roster stands and what the direction for these characters was originally.
With Master Bruce declining to return, the cowl sits un-characteristically empty, and I would be remiss to pass up these unique circumstances.
The question remains, however...what are you looking for from a Batman/Bruce Wayne in this setting? What weight does he carry in your stories, and what arcs and character moments are needed from him? MB was approaching an old Batman grappling with the physical and mental consequences of aging, and I'm not against a Batman who is significantly more progressed in his vigilante career.
Additionally, to pose a more self-interested question to the GM; what room is there to disregard and/or retcon Bat-family characters that are no longer participating in the game?
Edit: it would appear Wraith has an announcement to make shortly. Take it away, big guy.

CONGRATULATIONS:

GOTHAMITES...a rare opportunity stands before me.

As probably the least involved Batfamily member, any new Batman won't really require a whole lot from me. It's more about establishing the relationship between Dick and Bruce and where they sit with each other. I had always seen this version of Nightwing being a bit later and more independent, the stage of life where your Dad is more friend than mentor allowing Bruce and Dick to be in a more relaxed and mutually respected stage than we've seen in the comics due to the need for drama.
Additionally, to pose a more self-interested question to the GM; what room is there to disregard and/or retcon Bat-family characters that are no longer participating in the game?
Batman is an interesting case because he does have four other characters directly tied to his lore. That said, I think at the end of the day as long as nothing with the other active players is directly countered, you'd be fine to remove or ignore the rest.
Cassandra Cain needs to become Cassandra Wayne. that's the end goal for me anyway. Cassandra's entire life is basically her role as a vigilante in Gotham, in this instance, as the second Batgirl. Unlike a lot of other members of the batfamily, she doesn't want to 'branch out' or 'move beyond', this is her whole life and in her view, the only thing keeping her afloat.
So I was hoping Batman would go from mentor, to father figure, to actual adoptive father for cassandra. because her last one kinda sucked. she's loyal to the cause through and through. and getting a new family in the form of the bat family would just be really special and a very fun story to write.
I'm also looking forward to her meeting Damian IC because again in my ideal world, they'll become real siblings. :3

Biologically, she's twenty two years old. That's how old she was when she went into the portal, and how old she was ten years later when she emerged from the Microverse.
Has literal finger guns! Can shoot lasers out of her index fingers. They can be set to stun, paralyze, murder, or fun. If she flattens her palm, she can shoot much more powerful lasers. If she flattens her palms against each other, that's how you get the biggest lasers. These are called Stinger Lasers.
She can make herself bigger or smaller. As big as a building or smaller than an ant. However she usually switches between flying around at her normal size, and shrinking to the size of a wasp. Her strength is already enhanced thanks to her suit. Mega Molecule Batteries can be charged to increase her strength and speed, when she is big or small.
Her wings can allow her to fly quite quickly, though her greatest advantage is her super tight maneuverability and turning speed.
Janet Van Dyne invented Pym Particles. Not Hank Pym. Hank Pym is a hack and a fraud, and them doesn't even make sense because 'particles' is hardly helpful. Her name, 'Mega Molecules', still has alliteration, and is even a funny oxymoron, and it works even BETTER because these are molecules that can also make you MEGA!
But Janet and Hank married young, and Hank, the first Ant-Man, was her abuser. I know Hank Pym has a controversial history in comics, and yes, I am doing him dirty, but I think it's an interesting story. So I am turning him into a villain here. If it helps, there's probably a universe where Janet Van Dyne goes by the Puppy Kicker and goes around kicking puppies. Multi-verse! It'll getcha. Besides, Janet has been shoved under the rug far more than her boring old ex, so if there's any place for her to get the spotlight, it's in this little forum RP where I'll do it myself!
Anyway, on with the backstory. Janet had the idea of Mega Molecules when her father, Vernon, first began casually explaining to her the magical nature of the Quantum Realm. The microverse was a wellspring of untapped potential. Janet was a bit of an oddball growing up, and didn't have many close friends. Her exuberant nature often ended up pushing people away rather than bring them closer.
In a whirldwind romance that didn't last, Janet married Hank when she was in college, and together they completed work on the Mega Molecules or rather, the Pym Particles, as they would come to be known. While Janet cautioned her husband and her father on the dangers of Pym Particles, the two of them got swept up in the possibilites. During a terrible accident, her father tore open a portal in space, bringing a monstrous alien onto Earth. It killed her father and the explosion transfused Janet's body with Quantum particles. Hank also survived, and this failure through him further down the path of madness and frustration. Especially when it turned out that the accident had been the missing piece, and Janet's new physiology was the final key that allowed her to don the Wasp suit. She hunted down the alien and avenged her father, preventing the monster from wreaking any more havoc. It felt good to do that. Janet became The Winsome Wasp, and vowed to protect the people of Earth from threats from outer space. She fought against the Dominators in the Battle of New York, and had a short but storied tenure fighting evil from beyond the stars. Her suit was especially suited for it. For a while, she considered joining the Justice League, but disliked the amount of oversight it had. As in, none. Governments were supposed to protect the people, right?
Janet joined SHIELD and was a founding member of the Avengers, coining the name during their first mission together with an offhand comment. That was a good year.
Not long after that, Janet reluctantly allowed Hank to use her blood sample to complete work on the Pym Particle, allowing him to wear a suit of his own, and he became the first Ant-Man. But all the while he felt inadequate, his abilities were less than hers due to the accident. Desperate, after a terrible fight with Janet that no doubt would have became the source of their divorce anyway, Hank went mad. He adopted the persona of Yellow Jacket and invented a crisis that only he could solve, creating yet another portal to summon forth another monster from some far flung dimension of shadow. Only this time, even bigger and badder.
During the scuffle, it became apparent that the portal could only be sealed shut with a one-way trip to the micro-verse. Jan tackled Hank to the other side of the portal and used her abilities to seal it shut before a monster could come through. For a while, Janet thought she was a goner, but eventually the Wasp came across a city in the Microverse! It was here that Hank was thrown into jail for his crimes, for his actions had caused instability in their cities. Called Homeworld, she served for a few months (?) as the Wasp and protected these green-skinned alien looking folks from threats that emerged from the Underspace. Needless to say, this was quite the eye-opening experience and Janet realised she was actually turning into something of a xenophobe with how much she talked about destroying aliens. After all, if such strange and wonderful things could exist right beneath her nose, who was she to judge if they came from above or below?
Janet loved being a superhero, both in Homeworld and on Earth. Just as she was beginning to adjust to her new life, a warp opened right infront of her, attracted to her suit. It pulled her right through and plopped right in the middle of New York...with a T-Rex breathing down her neck! And also...ten years later! And also also...the Dominators were back! And also also also...she gave her life for that stupid Avengers team and the best they could do was a plaque on a bench?!
What kind of wacky misadventures will the Winsome Wasp get into next? She can't wait to find out.
P L O T ( S ) & G O A L ( S ) P L O T ( S ) & G O A L ( S )
Janet van Dyne is one of, if not the, original feisty and quirky women superheroes. It might be tropy, but I love it. Back in the day she was a founding member of the Avengers in the comics, and even the one who coined the name. She's going to be a merging of her original character and some of the others in the Ant-Man family. Hers is a story of a go-getter with a heart of gold who continually makes horrible life choices. Or maybe she just has bad luck.
I want her to battle and befriend creatures from other worlds. I want her to invent cool new gadgets. I want her to knock heads with supervillains. The versality of her powers allow her to go up against street and space level threats with ease, not being too strong or too weak in any battle. I'm going to write her with her personality traits turned up to eleven- in other words, she's going to be quite the character. She's going to bounce off certain characters and make fast friends with others. Her extroverted and somewhat socially clueless nature means she won't be able to take a hint if it's the former. This dame ought to be flirting with Thor and shooting spit balls at the back of Batman's head. The original mad lass.
She's going to be far different to play from my other character, Batgirl. A chatterbox to her mute, a party animal to her recluse. Despite Janet's hard life, she'll bring levity and joy to any team composition she ends up on. The Wasp will also travel all around the world and beyond, unlike Batgirl, who will stay rooted in the streets of Gotham for the forseeable future.
Jan is also a super genius inventor, though she is very, very wary of multi-versal technology at this point after all the trouble it's caused her. She will not underestimate the link between her Mega Molecules other dimensions ever again. It took her father away from her, and the goodness out of her ex-husband. Jan also makes a good leader, because when it comes down to it, she takes her job as a protector very seriously. She's not in it for the fame or glory, though she often plays it up like she is. She doesn't have a motivation of guilt, like Cassandra. And her trauma does not burden her- she is free to fly. Despite being very often eccentric, Janet is mentally well balanced. Her struggles didn't break her or make her stronger- they don't define her. I want to play Janet because in her I see a chance to represent what I see as a true, ideal superhero. Someone who does it because they want too, and it because it needs to be done. Her character arc is a flat one, she doesn't have to do much changing on a personal level. Another difference from Batgirl, who has a very long way to go. But The Wasp already knows who she is, and it won't be long before you do, too!
I'm gonna have to figure out how Thor is getting to New York. Would be great if someone could pick up Steve Rogers so Thor can stop being imprisoned... lol...
Honestly my overall holdup with the situation is kind of like, Sep held me up in this stupid prison scenario for so long because he refused to pick up obvious plot hooks I was trying to lay out... and then left me holding the bag for the entire thing. So if I were to take complete control from here I would much rather go back and ignore all like 80% of that pointless back-and-forth in Thor's cell and do something completely different.
I've caught up on the IC, and I'm looking next to recap myself on character sheets to know where our remaining roster stands and what the direction for these characters was originally.
With Master Bruce declining to return, the cowl sits un-characteristically empty, and I would be remiss to pass up these unique circumstances.

Edit: it would appear Wraith has an announcement to make shortly. Take it away, big guy.
Wasn't mentioned, but my own is fairly simple. Cops operating in the shadow that the Bat casts over a city.
And I'm perfectly willing to snatch up whatever supporting/fringe antagonists are left on the table.

There really wasn't anything obvious about the situation and I think how Sep handled it made sense for his character. If you had this big of an issue with it, you should have addressed it OOC.
I say this because I had every intent of using that interaction to paint your Thor as villainous had you not returned and it would not have taken much work given his actions.
Secondly, Sep had his laptop die and couldn't fiscally justify replacing it and has stepped away from all RPing. So it's a little unfair to say he left you holding the bag.
I'd appreciate it going forward if you refrained from slandering my friend.
All that said, since this is the second time now you've had this tirade, I just want to remind you that you are free to ignore the entire interaction and simply begin anew with Thor.

This is very easily done. Given the amount of Batman legacy characters active I will need to have an older Bruce with pre-established relationships to all his proteges. Nightwing will be the easiest to accommodate.

The biggest thorn in my side currently is the direction AndyC was taking with Joker, particularly around the Arkham breakout, as the story I'd like to tell with Batman has a similar catalysing event but unfolding differently for different reasons.
That said, with my base need being 'mass breakout of inmates from Arkham', I can probably work with what already exists without too much ret-conning needed.
Hooray! I'd love someone to play Batman :3

Not to play favourites but I think I'm most excited for the interaction between Bruce and Cassandra of all the Bat-family in the game. We'll discuss more privately but I am very on-board with these goals.
As an aside, I'll go over your Wasp sheet today and give my feedback to Wraith.

My apologies - somewhere in the muck I counted you out.
Renee and Marcus offer a unique perspective on the arc I want to play out. Having GCPD in the IC will be wonderful, and with what I'm planning there will be plenty to work with; again, we'll pick up offline.
I’m still here. I was just kind of bored at the prospect of posting by myself for awhile, waiting for Spidey stuff to take off. This little invasion thing will let me just jump into stuff which is fun.
Also I think I’ll switch Cindy to a primary. I am getting ideas of my own.
Yay! Play favorites tho, it'll be good drama XD shoot me a message when you want. if you don't, i will inevitably get the courage to send you a message about it haha.
I'm very excited for this RP again. If you ask me, since nobody else has really interacted with AndyC's plot yet, you could probably just retcon as much out. I wouldn't mind. I could even edit my post to get rid of the secret message Cassandra encountered, since I really am the only person who was kind of interacting with AndyC's plot via proxy. Or we could just alter the timeline and say that post was a flash forward. It might be a little confusing for people read down the line but...I mean...it's not that big a deal lol
As for Wasp, thanks x3 I just wanted a more adventerous free-spirited, roaming character. she can go anywhere in the world. i mean she's even multi-lingual lol. I also like my idea about her being a veteran who's been missing for a while, assumed dead. and now she's back and, because of her personality, seems to think that wasn't a very big deal and just wants to pick up where she left off.
and speaking of picking up where she left off: @Kyoka I think Wasp and She-Hulk would be good friends. Not that this matters too much, but they are in the comics, as well. I think Jenny and Janet would get along well and, well I think it might be interesting RP for your character to see an old friend she thought was dead. Plus, She-Hulk now is older and has more experience than Janet, which I'm sure is going to annoy Janet because she certainly assumed she was the wise mentor of the pair, regardless of the reality of the situation.
