For nearly a century, the Star Atlantic has made its sixteen day voyage from London to Athens, making several stops on its journey. Paris, Milan, and Venice are just a few of the hotspots passengers can expect to visit and worry not, passengers on the Star Atlantic are given a room at every stop on the trip at one of the numerous hotels its parent company owns leaving passengers with one less worry on their European tour. The approach to comfort and luxury for everyone aboard and about is just one of the reasons why the Star Atlantic is the first name in locomotive tourism. You haven't truly seen Europe until you've seen it from the window of a Star Atlantic car with your fellow passengers; truly there's something special about a tangle of strangers pressed together for days on end with nothing in common other than the need to go from one place to another!

If you can’t afford the expensive ticket to ride, don’t worry — as part of its centennial celebration, the Star Atlantic is offering a lottery system. Anyone can sign up, and there’s a chance to be among five lucky winners who will enjoy the Star Atlantic’s luxury free of charge!

Originally owned by a Belgian company, the Star Atlantic has been halted for almost two years while undergoing a transition to a wealthy American family. There have been a few changes during the transition, namely the management and updating of the coaches to be more modern. While some purists online haven’t approved of the changes, claiming they’re ruining the spirit of the engine by updating it with modern amenities, the Star Atlantic is seeing a resurgence of success — some people point to the most controversial change: a new rule dictating that you must be eighteen years or older to travel on the Star Atlantic.

The Star Atlantic’s kitchen staff is one of the only things the new owners haven’t changed. They believe the food and dessert offered on the locomotive to already be top notch. However, they have hired a new bartender, and the alcohol flows freely on the train. Neither food nor drink come at a price for passengers on this train.

Despite the online complaints from the somewhat passionate fanbase an old train seems to have, the current conductor, James Lincoln, has no plans to back down from the change. With a statement that plainly says he cannot be held responsible for what boredom, anonymity, and a constant gentle rocking brings on the train, Mr. Lincoln is preparing to embark on the Star Atlantic’s first trip under its new ownership, and its first of the line’s 100th anniversary.

Rules:

  • Don’t Be an Asshole
  • Post deadline will be once every two weeks; the RP will start on the 5th of March
  • Character sheet deadlines are set for the 4th of March

Hi everyone! This might start earlier if character sheets come in earlier, but this is what I’m looking at for dates. I tend to try to give more time than is really necessary, it is the best way. Anyway, where do you guys want to start? Boarding the train, or after the train has already started rolling? I’m open to whatever, and want to see what everyone wants! If you guys have any questions, comments, or suggestions, leave them below and I'll respond post haste.

The character sheet is over → there in the char tab, yes it’s really small. We all hate doing them don’t lie.

What Brings you Here?: "Wonderwall. You know, the Oasis song? 'I said maybeeeeee', that song? No? What about...Gold, by Spandau Ballet? 'Always believe in your soul, you've got the power to know you're indestructible!' Oh come on, how can you not have heard of them? What about Needles and Pins? Up the Junction? Sha-La-La-La-Lee? You're kidding me. I'm American and I know more about British music than you do. What? The Streets' 'Dry Your Eyes'? Yeah, I know it. It's a break-up so-oh. You're joking, right? All this time, all I did? I'm in another fucking country, Alex, what the fuck am I supposed to do?"

"Did you ever see a man with no heart?
Baby that was me
Just a lonely, lonely man with no heart
'Til you set me free...
...
I'm alive...I'm alive, I'm alive...
"

"Thank you very much, tips are appreciated, not required, just hoping to make your commute a little more exciting. Requests? Fuck it, why not, for you on the house 'cuz your eyes look kind. What's that? Something from not this decade? Alright, I got something just for you, Bright Eyes."

"'Does she wake up, put on make-up in the bathroom...'"

"How long have I been busking? God...I've been in London now...almost two years? Well, I came here before Christmas year before last, got dumped day before Christmas, spent the day in the emptiest pub talking to a bartender who lost his voice in the war - don't know which but pretty sure he was lying. Got a job at a coffee shop - same one I got dumped in - got fired for arguing with a customer about whetehr or not Ed Sheeran is good and they didn't like that I said he'd be great if literally anyone else sang the stuff he wrote. Granted, I also called them a fucking idiot but I stand by it. Anyway, yeah, been busking between jobs pretty much since the day I got here. Blew all my money on a plane ticket - one way - because someone told me they loved me and I was stupid enough to believe them. Anyway, here's Wonderwall..."

"I've got to get the fuck out of London. People are starting to refer to me as 'that guitar girl' when they aren't calling me colorful uses of the c-word. I've got enough money for a train ticket, maybe I'll try my hand up in Manchester or something. How much could a train ticket possibly cost? Star Atlantic? Pretentious as fuck name. Lottery? Fuck it, why not, last time I got lucky all I got was a faked orgasm and dumped so I'm used to disappointment..."

What Brings you here?
“The short version of it is because I’ve always wanted a change of scenery. I learned to live for myself only recently. Kind of sad, if you consider my age. I’m at the stage in life where I could be dying from some illness tomorrow or I could live for another 20 more years with no problem. I’m really not afraid of death. I just want to live freely before I die.

“I guess we have some more time and the suitable drinks for this. I hope you’re up for my entire life’s story. I’ve always walked a set path. When I was young, I listened to my parents. I grew up in China, you know, and you’re only a good child if you obeyed your parents. I was told to be a good student, a hard-worker, and an obedient person. A bunch of things happened around university. I had my rebellious stage during that time. Before I knew it, I was married with a child, and on my way immigrating to Canada.

“It’s hard being a first-generation immigrant. I did my best for my daughter, though. Well, it wasn’t like I had any way of backing down. Years flew by. I was over 40 when I first started considering my life. I was miserable with my husband. My parents moved in with us to help care for my child, but they were getting old. I did well in my career, but only as well as a soft-spoken immigrant woman can get in the financial world. My daughter is a worrisome one, too. She took after the worst parts in me and her dad.

“It took me a few more years to finally make the decision. My parents are now well-cared for in a retirement home in China. My daughter found her own path and doesn’t need me to watch over her anymore. I divorced my husband just a few months ago. I guess… I should get used to calling him my ex-husband now.

“I’ve been in Europe a few times before, but never for myself. It was work or family. I wanted to see this beautiful and romantic continent. I’m not particularly short on money, and this train offered the convenience that a woman like me would much prefer. So, here we are.”
