Could be a fun bit for character development too. If your character wants to be tactical but is assigned a heavy weapon, or if he wants to start taking a leadership position but someone else has been granted that spot. If he wants to be a leader and therefore he wants recognition he might be frustrated by being put in a Scouting or Long Range position. Or really with following orders in general.

As a Hunter maybe that's something your guy wants to handle quickly, modifying his weapons or trying to finangle himself into a position with a stronger weapon.

For example my character I'm planning to have quite a high opinion of himself. Doesn't mean he's actually hot shit. But might create an opportunity to get into a contest with someone else, or might result in him getting put on shit duty for being too haughty. Or maybe events come to pass that quickly set him straight and give him some perspective.

The one thing that you may not be ready to hear is that im aware of all of those restrictions, yes every single one of them. Ive been playing 40kRPs since 2011. So lets deal with them one by one.

@Steel Legion

Alright, A few things. Your character will not have earned themselves any sort of title this early in their career.

The title is Beastmaster of the Blackened Anvil. Do i really need to prove that there are many anvils and some of them are blackened? The name is meant to be almost a location similar to how Leonardo Di Vinci basically translates to Leonard of Venice. If you arnt allowing titles why did you include them in a name generator?

As for the picture you used, Salamanders are known for their coal black skin and red eyes. A genetic quirk unique to them specifically.

A fact that i fully accommodated in the picture. See how his face is blackened by ash? There arnt allot of pictures of salamanders. I chose this picture because it represented a marine in a transitional state between flesh colour to charcoal black.

You are not going to start the game with master-crafted anything even if they are consumable grenades. Stick to frag and krak for now. Specialty equipment may be made available based on your assignments.

Im sorry but all salamanders are craftsmen and artisans. They are known to craft all of their own equipment and thus a scout crafting 3 inferno grenades in a chapter defined by flame weaponry is not out of the ordinary. Especially as all marines not only are genetically related to Vulkan but also evolve to become more like him over time.

Nor would your character have a personal menagerie of pets. barring the Space wolves no chapter, least of all the Salamanders have a history of going to war alongside animals. They hunt them for sport and for trophies certainly, and if you want to give yourself some kind of hunting trophy earned from a trial where you fought a drake than sure, within reason i'll happily allow that.

The White Scars are on record as having trained falcons. Yes the space wolves train fenrisian wolves. Im pretty sure that Raven Guard get ravens, being that inquisitors are also known to have ravens and eagles as pets.
This is my attempt to incorporate the known trait of compassion that salamanders have into a real world example such as someone who would tame and master animals rather than just kill them straight away like a psychopath.

And i'm sorry but there's no way i'm giving anyone a Grynix. They are not native to nocturne and your not an inquisitor or a librarian so there would be no reason your character would have ever seen or heard of these much less tamed one somehow.

Fair enough, i was only really looking for a feline-type animal. What about a Phyrr cat?

And marines don't use personal stub weapons of any kind. Feel free to take a bolt pistol as a backup weapon.

Incorrect. Failed space marine aspirants are issued with stub weaponry and are used as indentured servants. They are often used to repel borders when an Astartes ship is attacked, being that they are not true space marines. So this proves atleast that such weapons exist. I was mainly trying to avoid making the claim that i have both a boltgun and a bolt pistol, however im ready to admit im wrong in this case. My character is not a chapter serf.

As as far as his profile. Marines don't choose a specialty. They train to be devasators-> close assault-> tactical in turn. They have to learn to fill whatever roll may be required of them, and are assigned to a role in a battle company based on what they're good at and where the openings are.

And that is basically what im saying my character has chosen to do. Not all space marines are tactical, some are exclusively assault marines for example. This means that the tactical marines are a bit of a jack of all trades master of none, whereas someone making a character for this RP for example could choose to be an assault marine with knife/pistol and this would be a perfectly valid choice.

In conclusion, i hope you didnt read this in too impertinent a tone. Im sure that once we're over this stumbling block we can get onto some really interesting RP.

The weird thing is that ive tried to not make a character that thinks hes a hot shit. I tired to make a character that could plausibly exist in the 41st millennium and is probably covered in cat hair and is an autistic Maverik at the worst possible time XD.

Im surprised that of all of this the one thing no one picked up on is the "Vulkan pattern" bolter. That doesnt exist in the lore but should considering that salamanders all manufacture their own gear.

Id definitely be down with getting a rivalry with your character. My character is loosely based on captain kirk from the star trek films. He starts out as a maverick but eventually gets brought into line. In a strange way our characters might have that in common...

It's not like i'm exactly new to this setting myself.

I did not in fact create that name generator myself. I merely found it while browsing online and realized it made pretty good lore-accurate names in the Salamander style. I didn't think it needed to be said that mere scouts would not have earned themselves titles.

A fact that i fully accommodated in the picture. See how his face is blackened by ash? There aren't alot of pictures of salamanders. I chose this picture because it represented a marine in a transitional state between flesh colour to charcoal black.

I acknowledge that the variety of artwork for unhelmeted Salamanders, specifically scouts is... slim to say the least. So I suppose I can accept that some imagination is required by the observer to darken the skin themselves. But you could always just do a written description?

Im sorry but all salamanders are craftsmen and artisans. They are known to craft all of their own equipment and thus a scout crafting 3 inferno grenades in a chapter defined by flame weaponry is not out of the ordinary. Especially as all marines not only are genetically related to Vulkan but also evolve to become more like him over time.

Yes they are, but you have not lived long enough to be a master crasftman. It's one thing to say that you've forged your own combat knife (perfectly logical) But your character has somehow mastered beast-taming & grenade manufacture all while undergoing training, trials and constant surgeries? i'm sorry but no. It's just not that logical. Everyone's characters will have learned something of forge-craft and of the promethean cult. No doubts at all about that. But you'll likely learn how to repair your bolter & armour before you learn how to master explosive munitions.

Quite true, Some white scars captains & heroes use Cyber eagles. Notably hunt masters like Kor'sarro Khan, A thought that slipped my mind. They are still not common within the white scars. Only heroes like Kor'sarro, maybe a chaplain or a stormseer would be permitted to have one, certainly not a rank and file brother.

But Regardless, at the risk of being seen as glib you are not a captain or a company hero nor a brother of the white scars nor an inquisitor. You're a Salamander neophyte and again, the Salamanders themselves have no history of allowing this.

Fair enough, i was only really looking for a feline-type animal. What about a Phyrr cat?

No personal pets of any kind. Sorry. Besides it's also not something native to Nocturne and thus no real reason why you would ever have come into contact with one.

Sure, chapter serfs may use autoguns & stub weapons. I do not, nor will I ever deny that. I never implied they didn't exist either, but you are neither of those things. You passed your initial trials so you get to use the important guns.

And that is basically what im saying my character has chosen to do. Not all space marines are tactical, some are exclusively assault marines for example. This means that the tactical marines are a bit of a jack of all trades master of none, whereas someone making a character for this RP for example could choose to be an assault marine with knife/pistol and this would be a perfectly valid choice.

alright, perhaps I didn't do a great job explaining this in the OP. but no one is a 'tactical' specialist. Or an assault specialist or a devestator specialist. You are scouts. You will use a variety of equipment and play a variety of rolls, and do whatever is required of you. If you're trying to say that your character prefers the straightforwardness and broad utility of a bolter, that's awesome and understandable. But he isn't a 'tactical scout' he may be required to pick up a shotgun, or a sniper rifle or a heavy bolter or a chainsword if the need calls. Your character has not been chosen to fufill any roll as of yet. That is the point of serving in the scout company. This is your battlefield experience that your instructors will then pass on to future captains. This is were you learn to use the weapons and tactics and get the first inklings of what you may be proficient with. You haven't that chance as of yet to be marked for any specific role or future function.

In conclusion, i hope you didnt read this in too impertinent a tone. Im sure that once we're over this stumbling block we can get onto some really interesting RP.

I don't think you're being Impertinent, At least not any more than I am likely coming off as glib despite my best intentions. But understand where i'm coming from there is some rather generous interpretation of lore going on here.

So basically we have passed Basic Training and have yet to be assigned to, test for, or even work with any Specialty division.

We're fresh meat having just passed Initiation. Untried, untested, not yet consecrated in the flames of battle. Not yet baptized in the blood of our vanquished enemies. Deaf yet to the chorus of our future dying foes, twisting and thrashing about in the ashes of their dying world. Etc etc. Bad ass stuff we haven't done yet.

@Ollumhammersong

Ok ill have to change my charsheet some.

I didnt mean to say "master crafted", i was just thinking in terms of the game Space Marine where in multi-player you can get master crafted grenades which hit harder. This is why i included the bit about it being "acceptable quality". However, i honestly think that working in a hot forge hammering steel into shape all day is just the sort of thing young scouts would be made to do. I also think its plausible that each marine has to produce some sort of project to show off their artisan skills... again im trying to finagle those grenades lol. I can certainly see this coming up in the RP even if its not in the character generation. Some people will want to craft straight away and we're in a chapter [legion] that lets us do that whoho.

I guess i cant be a beastmaster :(
But maybe something will come up about it later??

Sure, some amount of crafting skill is easily justified. Like I said, Salamanders traditionally make their own weapons rather than rely on a forgeworld for supply & they are naturally gifted. Making your own combat knife, making a bolt pistol, repairing your armour are all things everyone will likely due during downtime bits. But you're also in your early 20s, even being a space marine (especially being a space marine) you simply don't have enough time to be a master at anything while also undergoing a lethal & exhausting training regime.

Don't start trying to make plasma bombs before you learn to make a frag grenade.

And while I know many 40k video games have master crafted grenades as a blanket upgrade for game mechanic purposes. They don't actually exist in lore. In fact lore specifically states that consumables are virtually never made to a master crafted or artificer quality because it's seen as a waste of time and resources even by the admech.

That's why for example master crafted bolters exist, but not master crafted bolt shells.

Ok, I await your constructive criticism. Ive tried to keep his abilities low-key but obviously needed to outline the various skills he has that other scouts might differ from.

Looks better, Feel free to take both krak and frag grenades if you want. Up to you on that one.

Other than that, just the bit about him choosing to be a tactical specialist, again in this game he may be ordered into several different roles and he doesn't get to pick his own job yet, Especially considering this will be his first actual real-life combat experience.
