Ok wow so this thread blew up... Seeing how many people are interested (as well as the level of detail you guys are putting in. Thank you btw!) I'm thinking of moving this into the Advanced RP Page. You guys are adding new ideas and worldbuilding that I hadn't considered when typing up this original concept. So if you want to take part, please keep an eye on the advanced rp section rather than casual!

Fading Memory The Final Flame of a Fiery Bird

Cyberpunk is my jam, so this stuff gets me hyped up.

So far we've got a Dancer (KZOMBI3), an estranged/fallen Heir (Theyra and Zim0cron, potentially), a Thief bent individual (Lucky), Someone Who Just Likes The Vibe And Is Trying to Break Their Own Mold Against Transhumanism (Hey, if it's what you like, I say go for it- borg yourself out, ride the redline, experiences the dejection of a world of unfeeling cold steel if that's your vibe; Kersel), and a Bartender/Kindred Spirit of the Community (Telluka)

Everyone expressed beside those ideas at least some interest in being in SK8TE as well (Auz and Gingerboi), and I threw in my hat as an anarchist, musically inclined, rebel out to see the world burn.

Yeah I dig what we've got so far as ideas and concepts.

@TheNoCoKid Boss, are we rocking with a more sleek/futuristic Cyberpunk, or a grittier retro one? I'm cool either way, but are we Noir and Neon, rain in the city, self driving cars and gunfights in the streets, or are we more the gilded/glittery concealed dystopia of bright lights, clean colors, rare violence, and complacent peoples? Basically where inbetween Blade Runner and Mirror's Edge are we trying to fall here?

@Fading Memory I imagined it sort of like the image in my original post. Definitely leaning on the noir and neon side of things with the rare cleaner and sleeker buildings which would house the Heirs. Think of it along the lines of actual Cyberpunk 2077 mixed with the parkour/freerunning aesthetics of Mirror's Edge. I hope that makes sense? That's the best idea I can really give at the moment.

So I'm interested, but I am also concerned that if you move it to Advanced the standard of post length will become overwhelming.

For a character, I don't know how you would feel about introducing a new group/cultural concept, but there's a sort of anarchist commune idea that I came up with for a different RP that sadly never got used.

Just wanted to put out there that I'm still highly interested! I'm hard leaning towards a thief now, as mentioned earlier.

My idea is basically every "organization' of Sk8ters has to have a branch of under-the-table acquisitions. These smuggled goods have to come from somewhere, right? Like every other role, these guys (which I'll refer to as Fingers until I or someone else comes up with a better term) tend to work alone and off the grid. Each Finger has their own methods and equipment, e.g. using Virtual Cloaking to hide themselves from cameras, hacking cameras within their closed network via Ocular App: Trojan, or disabling the power completely with some good old-fashioned breakers. Plus, there are usually specialized thieves. Grand Theft Auto, Vault Heist, Heir Honeypot.

Some thieves acquire more heat than others, but as long as they get the job done without implicating themselves or anyone else, then they will chalk it up as a success. Most, if not all, thieves dislike confrontation. This means that any job that involves directly interacting with live security or includes the intent to harm an individual as part of the objective are usually turned down. This does not mean they will not protect themselves when cornered, as they typically learn self-defense or carry a personal protection device.

I'm also concerned about post length requirements if this is moved over to advanced. Digging all the ideas so far though.

Thirding the concern about post length, but I am still interested. Sort of going along with Lucky’s wonderful idea, I plan on having my character have a dubiously legal business. I think I’ll have them well connected to the criminal elements of the megacities as well (Sk8te or otherwise) as well as a few of the more corrupt Creds and maybe even an Heir or two.

Oh, and I want to clarify: are we assuming everyone who isn’t a regular worker or an Heir is in Sk8te, or can there be other unaffiliated gangs and such?

Boy I sure hope so!

Although I expect it can be assumed any character we play will be associated in some way.

I'm assuming the terminology used is by the Sk8tes and not universal. It makes sense to me that a type of people would categorize everyone else into a few broad terms.

Speaking of terms, is Sk8tes pronounced "Skates" or "Skate-tees?" I only ask because the 8 would usually remove the need for 'te' in a word. Like Sk8 gets the former across perfectly.

Skifinities?

This seems really cool btw but I can't take on anymore projects. I do love myself a good Cyberpunk fix tho so might just read along.

Hey everyone. It's been lowkey hectic the last few days, but I'm hoping to have the first post go live at some point in the near future (i.e. next 24 hours). To answer a few questions, I'd like to keep things constrained to the three main groups: Sk8te, Heirs, and Creds. That being said, Sk8te is a cabal organization. There are multiple 'factions' of Sk8te within the Megacity, and they each have their own ideologies and principles. They just all refer to themselves as Sk8te like an umbrella term. As for the suggestion of 'Fingers', you can work that into a Cred or a Sk8te member without too much difficultly. I have no problem with more thief-esque characters in any of the main groups, but as stated above, I'm trying to keep things simple for the sake of my own sanity at the moment.

And for the pronunciation question, Sk8te is pronounced just like 'Skate'. The only difference being that I wanted the 8 to be more like a mobius strip, but you can't stylize text on a forum website so... I'm just screwed on that front.
