I notice this site is kinda dead, as is RPnation. Anyone know any other RP sites that are more active?

Also, what happened here? I used to be able to post an rp and a shitload of people join on. Now not so much.

People get busy, have work, have other obligations? I don't see the site as dead. In the past 3 weeks I've been in three different RPs and seen over 200+ posts between them. That's pretty impressive in my book.

As far as other sites, I'm afraid I can't help too much. This is the one place I actually know. There's some site called Iwaku people go to as well. Sorry you're not enjoying the activity you're used to?

As @DruSM157 said, people have real life to attend to, but as far as I've seen throughout the years I have been here, this site is nowhere from being dead. People are making interest checks left and right (likely due to extra free time as a result of quarantine) and we're still steadily getting new members. I wouldn't see RPNation dead either, since they're in a similar situation as RPG.

Honestly, it might just be that people don't really feel your RP ideas, which can happen to anyone at any given time. Free not being as active as other sections and only having a select few members regularly frequenting the section wouldn't help either.

Also, to tack on to what has already been said. Not everybody RPs via the threads, a lot of people use the PM system on-site, or may host Int Checks/Lore and character databases here in a thread on-site, but the actual RP takes place via another platform like Google Docs or Discord if that's easier/more convenient for them on the go

I'm active here at least 3 times a day, sometimes more depending on my partners' activity due to work/life stuff, but since all of my RPs atm are in PM, it doesn't show as a part of my "post count", but I am still posting just as much as I was when I first joined 4 years ago my God I'm getting old help me

There are heaps of people that RP in private and I can visually see the numbers of public and private posts, so the activity is there.

What you may find that even though a lot of people are home in isolation and quarantine, they are still living busy lives and aren't exactly in a holiday mode. People aren't going to the movies, aren't going to holiday destinations, and even in some places aren't leaving their home except for groceries. That all hinders creativity greatly as you are physically limited in activities and have to stay within your home.

There have been studies and checks done to show that people have generally become more laxed and lazy while at home during this period, and people have been sleeping more often as there's no reason to rush to get to a workplace by 9. There's home schooling aspects too which reduces free time as well. Those who are still working, me being one of them, are dealing with so much workload that it is physically exhausting.
Everyone flipped their lives and still dunno where they stand.

So I don't think the site is kinda dead, I just think that people have been distracted with other events in the world and it's taken a toll mentally and creatively. We're not in a bubble immune from the world and if people are struggling to work out what to cook for dinner for the 10th night in a row as no take aways are open, they're gonna struggle to RP.

See, I got a slap on the wrist for advertising for my own Discord RP idea. Kind of frustrating to hear other people get to do it but I got told no.

I think the difference lies in "only advertising the RP here" (it's a forum, not an ad site like Gumtree/Craigslist or whatever, you can't just use it to blast ads and I'm pretty sure that's listed somewhere in the rules though I do stand corrected as I'm simply a long-term member, not a mod or an admin)

vs. "using Discord as a platform to chat/rp on while you're on the move and eventually moving stuff onto a forum thread"
A lot of people find the site to be very unnavigatable on mobile (and as someone who was computerless for 2 years, let me tell you, it's a nightmare to do full-time) so oftentimes its easier to host OoC chats, collabs and the like on another platform like Discord, which has its own mobile app that makes it easier to type these things out, while you're on a break at work or waiting for the bus/train/whatever on the commute home (which I did frequently before the virus hit and also while I was without a computer and struggled to type on the Guild on my phone) and then move them back onto an archive/database thread here on the Guild once they're fully done and edited

I would agree it's kinda dead here compared to where it used to be...

But many RP sites are that way. It's a very niche hobby.

Despite it not doing nearly as well right now as it used to it's still for my money the best option. I'd link you to a better alternative if there were one, although if there were a better alternative I wouldn't be here. I'd be there.

Check out the Guide in my signature just below this. It's a sort of guide to RPing. Didn't write it myself, just kinda collected the input from several folks here. Writing Character Sheets and Interest Checks and dealing with the disappointments of great ideas that never quite pan out. Might help.
