The Death Knight's Squire

Hello! I am usually one for many words but I want to keep it short this time.

This roleplay is supposed to be a short story. The Death Knight's Squire is a fan-made adventure module meant for solo play. It is pretty straightforward. I am offering to run it as a GM with a group of 2-4 players. This is supposed to be a low-stress RP where you can simply log in and write a post without too much thought put into it. Though I do still require you to have decent grammar and write at least one paragraph, preferably two with some character insight. This RP probably runs best if all participants are able to post at least once a week.

Once upon a time, hung from a tree a black dark knight called to thee
'Dear my child, come, come to me, an adventure I guarantee'
Whisked away on horse at night a son was stolen oh so bright
But in the deepest starless night, a hero set out clueless of fright
And went to steal back what once was the knight's required squire

A few rules need to be established for me to feel stress-free when running this.

1. You may only choose classes from the Player's Handbook (though you may choose subclasses from other official sources). I understand some won't like this but it makes it significantly easier for me.
2. You may choose any official race from any official source.
3. Stats will be rolled - you may roll twice and take whichever you prefer. You can put any number where you want after that.
4. All rolls for this RP must be done with the guild dice and always within the same "dice campaign". Additionally, please label your dice rolls. E.g. "Investigation Check" or "Stat Rolls".
5. You get the starter equipment that is listed with your class and background.
6. You may choose any background from any official source or choose none. The GM reserves the right to refuse any background if it doesn't fit.
7. You must be a "hero". Whatever your internal motivation is, your character must be willing to offer help. Best suited are of course characters with the alignment "good".

You will start at level 2. You get your max HP from level 1 and roll for the additional HP for level 2. (Example: As a monk, you'd have 8+1d8+constition modifier HP). Death is possible, so be aware of that. If your character dies, you may make a new one.

I will not be playing a character in this, so I am solely GMing. The adventure can end in total failure, partial success, or full success.

I've never done DnD on Rpg before. I didn't even know we had dice on here. If yall are willing to be patient and teach me how it works, I am down.

@Mistress Dizzy Glad to have your interest :) I am sure we can help you figure it out. As for dice, on the main page on the right side it will say dice. Otherwise, here's a link.

I'm down to do this if you'll have me! Quick question though; with the rule on rolling for stats, do we roll two full sets of stats (ie roll six times, then roll another six times and choose which set of six to use) or is it basically rolling for advantage with every stat?

In any regard I think I'll go with a monk but I'm willing to change if someone else want to play one (I play monks all the time so I don't mind shaking it up).

Putting forth some tentative interest, if you'd have me. I have a couple of ideas for characters I might want to play, though I think some stuff would need to be pinned down first.

@rocketrobie2 You'd roll two full sets and then pick one set.

@CollectorOfMyst Glad to have your interest. What stuff needs pinning down? :)

@Benzaiten Well, specifically the role/s that need filling and how much I can get away with.

I have a couple of premade characters that I can slot in just about anywhere with a little bit of work and I have one character that's a back-up for one of my current campaigns that I might want to get into the mind of, but he comes with Conditions™️ that would decide if I play him in particular or not. It's me being fussy, basically.

We have enough interest to get this going. We can start pretty quickly once we get some CS. I don't need to make an elaborate OOC for this, thankfully.

You can start working on your characters. For this, your characters would already know each other and have some experience as a group. So you're travelling together.

Welp. I've rolled stats for my druid.

This is abysmal. 😅

Before any additions:
Stat roll 1: 10(0), 12(+1), 10(0), 10(0), 8(-1), 6(-2)
Stat roll 2: 8(-1), 13(+1), 9(-1), 12(+1), 11(0), 7(-2)

Dang, your character surely got born into this world with some crazy luck. Poor fella. Still, someone with those stats decided to be an adventurer and give it a shot. Sounds like someone truly capable of hard work, who is used to pulling themselves out of the mud and continuing anyway. Shows some real strength of character and determination for sure. I'm imagining this village kid who always ran around with a pitchfork trying to act out hero stories yet always coming home bruised, falling off fences, accidentally hurting themselves with their shenanigans.

"Tommy fell off a tree again!" "Why does he keep climbing up if he can't come down?" "Says he's practicing."

Someone who couldn't be knocked down spiritually cause they were too stubborn to give up. Or perhaps someone who was always weaker and less fortunate than others of their tribe but had a strong urge for adventure and exploration and went out to seek those things regardless of their bad track record with luck. I imagine someone like that would be somewhat resourceful. Would you like to give those stats a shot?

As someone who was born into this world with that kind of luck... that's actually quite inspiring in a way. Thank you.

That said: I may need some help. I usually do point buy, so I'm definitely not sure how to roll stats on the dice thing.

@Mistress Dizzy For rolling stats; you roll 4d6 and add up the three highest numbers - so on a 5, 4, 4, 3, you would take a 13, but if you get 3, 2, 1, 4, you take a 9. You do this six times to get a stat array, which you can then put anywhere you like.

For example, if someone were to get 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, and 8, and they were playing a fighter, they might put their 8 in Charisma, 15 in Constitution, and so on.

With the dice roller, what I did was 4d6+4d6+4d6, four times (1A, 1B, 2A, 2B), to get my first and second stat array. 1A and 1B are both parts of the same array; I can't mix up 1A and 2B, in this case.

The dice roller can't do more than 5 sets at a time (so 4d6+4d6 up to 5), so I split it up into two halves. It's also helpful to add a note as to what it was for, i.e., if you're rolling to attack something, you put a note saying 'attacking wolf' or something like that.

Does that all make sense?

@CollectorOfMyst I *think* I got it.

My husband did the math while I was looking for the calculator, let me know if any thing is off.

But uh... yeah. Taking the beta set, because *damn*.

@Mistress Dizzy From the looks of it, your stat arrays are as follows, not including a racial bonus;

Stat roll 1: 9(-1), 12(+1), 15(+2), 16(+3), 12(+1), 15(+2)
Stat roll 2: 12(+1), 14(+2), 12(+1), 12(+1), 18(+4), 15(+2)

I'm assuming you know the whole ability modifiers thing I'm doing in brackets? Like, 10 and 11 mean a +0 modifier and all that?

Neither of them are much to sniff at, that's for sure

Yeah, I have played 5e before. I can't believe I rolled 4 6's. I will never be that lucky again...

Thanks for doing the stats for me. Now I just have to pick a character...

Seems the unisverse immedialy found a balance to the earlier unlucky stats by granting @Mistress Dizzy a very handsome set of rolls. Damn.
