Alex

@KillamriX88

"Of course I'm okay!" Alex gave a little laugh. "W-Well, I tripped a lot at first. And... uh... I can't really catch things well." She sheepishly scratched her cheek and added with a lowered voice, "Not that I was ever good at sports to begin with. If anything I think I might be better off now that I've had a few months of physical therapy after waking up. Plus ever since I found the Root, I've-" She stopped herself before she said too much. She wasn't sure how much she should say on that front. Alex wanted to surprise Wolf with what her power had become.

Alex felt uneasy despite her rambling - or perhaps because of it. She could tell when something was wrong back in the day by how long she would speak without Wolf saying anything. It wasn't a record (Alex didn't want to recount the idea that set the record), but still.

"Wolf, is everything all right for you...?" She stepped forward. There was a chance that she was misreading the situation, yet Wolf seemed tense, as if he might bolt at any moment.

Ken Illustrious Ikari and Hajime Sakurazaki

It was just as simple as going to Ken's apartment, introducing himself, and being let in after a security check for Hajime to meet his liege, and now the two were playing videogames together, casting aside all distinctions of rank, linage, and even status as Gifted and Non-Gifted to play a fighting game as equals.

For a brief moment before meeting him, Hajime had been fearful that he might not be able to accept Ken as his liege, that the other teen might be somehow unworthy of his trust and allegiance. But now, after an hour of enjoying himself with snacks and testing out various characters and strategies, Hajime was hooked on the prospect of serving his friend for life.

Ken had been lonely. Unable to connect to people due to his damned pride, valuing his position (claimed and actual) too much, and in the end, giving up on his pride in order to just play with a commoner - Without even a Gift! - like him because he was tired of driving out his human connections due to the subconcious belief that he was better than others. Or at least, that was what Hajime inferred from what Ken had said about Reverio and Chinami and his failed attempts at making further connections.

Hajime was no sage, he was a fighter first, philosopher later. But he could see that Ken had let his ego get the better of him, but had taken the big and bitter step (to him) of just stepping back and addressing a fellow kid as an equal. And he had been the first to receive such an honor.

"Ken," he spoke once the 'playdate' ended. "Do you really want the throne? Wouldn't you rather live as a Rhean Citizen and let others do the hard work of fixing the world and keeping it fixed?"

His liege - No, his friend - nodded and said, "To be honest, I do. A Rhean citizen has a worry-free life compared to the Emperor of a developing country. And my life since claiming the throne has given me a lot of worries." Then his face hardened a little, "But Izumo's citizens do not have that luxury; they don't even regard themselves as citizens; they're farmers, peasants, tenants, peons... They have no formal stake in their own nation. I plan to give them that stake."

Ken then laid his head back and said, "But I want to be my true self first. And if that means talking with you like an - No, as an equal - Then that's all there is to it. And I can declare you my equal - I'm the Legiitmate Emperor of Izumo; I have that power."

This caused Hajime to blurt out, "I... I loved the idea of you. I always thought you'd be handsome and charming and... And you are. Does being your equal mean you'd be mine, just as I am already yours?"

Ken turned off the game console and said, "I give myself to you, completely and utterly, just as you gave yourself to me, completely and utterly. Hajime Sakurazaki, you have my full permission to court me... bethrothed."

And they kissed; that was all there was to it.

Chinami Nadakai

"Liliya Montoya"

@Dezuel@AtomicNut

Reverio would quickly find that this pale girl was even more than meets the eye. Though his grip successfully clasped around her wrist, it did not slow her for a moment. It was like trying to halt an unstoppable object. For all his physical strength, her pace continued unhindered, either wrenching her from his grip or dragging him along if he persisted. Cloaked in the invisible Spirit projection only she could perceive, she gave off the impression of an untouchable juggernaut.

"Liliya" approached the humming barrier that lay over the Tome of the Trium Throne, her expression placid and unconcerned.

"Raise thine palm forth and emplace thine appendage afore the barrier. This One shalt handle the rest," the voice from within rumbled.

"Un..." was the girl's only outward whispery response, as her hand that may or may not still be clasped by Reverio slowly rose towards the barrier. Closer and closer it crept, until mere centimeters separated her from potential retaliation.

"Sufficient."

Her movement stopped.

Unbeknownst to Liliya, hidden from all present eyes by the miniscule distance between her hand and the barrier, a razor-sharp edge of pitch black began to slide smoothly from her palm, from within her very soul and Spirit. Hungry green mist hissed forth, alongst what little was exposed of its length... as it made contact with the barrier.

Immediately, a howling shriek thundered through the air, as the area around Liliya was struck with a force that crackled with ozone, the floor scorched. Yet, the girl remained unphased, her small flinch hidden beneath the flash of light. The barrier began to glow violently, thrumming with a force that could be felt in one's bones, as spell matrixes began to flicker into visibility within and outside it. Old and defiant defenses whirred to life with holy purpose, to preserve all that was-

A harsh crack with an intone like a dolorous bell struck the air.

All of a sudden, the barrier seemed to shudder, as putrid, black fissures began to spread out visibly from the area around Liliya's palm. Along the fissures, there spread in their wake a roiling green mist, bubbling and hissing like something was dissolving with chemical virulence. The air grew heavy, as two completing magical forces began to fill the area with their presence. One was holy, righteous and just, a monument of order layered with countless works for a right purpose... And swelling up from within the girl, billowing outward, there was only H U N G E R. A bottomless pit of blackness, a black hole from which no magic could escape, seeking only to consume. For a moment, it almost seemed like a battle of equals...

But only for a moment.

The barrier shuddered, spell matrices shaking and collapsing in sequence, one after the other with pops and cracks like shattering glass. The barrier's glow intensified and waned in desperate spurts, much like a flickering lightbulb, as the hungry mist consumed more and more of its form. Bolt after weakening bolt struck the girl, who remained unbothered throughout. Fire, acid, frost and even something that might have been a temporal effect came and went, as the mist hissing around the girl utterly nullified it all, swallowing everything mystical that dared to touch it. Three-quarters of the barrier's mass were submerged now, but it persisted defiantly.

Feebly, it struck, again and again, as it could, as it must. If it were possible for such an unliving thing as a mere spell to exude desperation, it did so here and now... but it was all for nought.

A low rumble rippled through the air, akin to a hum of satisfaction, as the black fissures and sickly-green mist slid down the remains of the barrier. Before the girl, all the remained was a gradually contracting done of mist, humming with energy and unceasing hunger, as it began to draw back towards her palm, collapsing, compressing and then... slipping away.

"It is finished," the demon chuckled lowly, a growl to its voice dripping with satisfaction. "'Twas an excellent appetizer for what is to come..."

The tip of the blade withdrew, and the girl's arm fell slack to her side. Before her, a large circle of scorched and boiled stone remained, hissing from the forces that had just been exerted not moments prior. The ground looked corroded and chewed away, and yet for all that had just happened... Her gaze trailed up to the pedestal, where the Tome of the Trium Throne sat resplendent... untouched... and now vulnerable.

Outwardly, her reaction to what had just happened was tepid. Inwardly though, she struggled to process the implications... That sort of power... What in the actual infernal pits was this thing living inside her? It was all she could do to swallow silently, as Liliya took two long strides forward, standing over the tome silently. Her brows pinched together, as she hesitated. She could take the book, but that ran the risk of it being tracked somehow. Or worse, stolen. The last thing she needed was to be caught red-handed with this. Besides...

Wasn't the goal to ensure Reverio succeeded and failed in the same breath? If she didn't take this... then someone else could use it. With the ward broken, shouldn't that provide some glimmer of a clue as to the intruder's intensions?

'No, I don't need this book. I just need what's inside it...'

Unseen, her Spirit's arms reached for the pedestal, flipping open the Tome of the Trium Throne. Spectral eyes joined her own in burning the opening pages into her memory. A page was flipped... and then another... and another... and yet another. Soon enough, the pages were flashing by in flickers of movement, the flittering sound of parchment filling the air.

The thunk of the cover closing the tome once more sounded out.

Liliya allowed a small passive smirk to upturn her lips, as she flipped the book back over, leaving it laying right where it had been in the first place. Her thoughts felt heavy, churning with expanses of white and black, as she began mentally compartmentalizing what she'd just seen. She'd always been pretty good at memorization, and her Spirit's ability to subconsciously burn whatever it saw into her mind certainly helped no small amount. Some of it felt a little jumbled, but that's because the language it was written in was hardly completely modern. Thankfully, for someone with her background of "archeology", she was plenty familiar with outdated languages and linguistics, and this one was nothing radical. She ignored the inquisitive and approving hum of the demon inside her, as she turned back to meet Reverio's gaze.

Her expression was placid and impassive, yet exuded a certain smugness, as her crimson eyes trailed down to glance at the tome clutched in Reverio's own hands. Her voice came as a whispery monotone, "Objective complete. Leave now?"

Jeremy was feeling pretty good. It was hard to say he had a good morning, what with the events of the haunted apartment hanging over his head. But if he could just push those memories to the back of his mind...

Jeremy's expression slowly changed from his unconscious grimace back into a loose smile, the weight of the bounty in his pockets helping him forget the less desirable memories. Really, it was pretty amazing how much wealth changed his outlook on life. The copious amounts of ginger ale he had drunk had eased his quesiness, and he had paid for it himself! Imagine how much chocolate he could buy... Well, he should probably save it for now, but that wouldn't stop him from feeling happy.

Jeremy didn't have much going on today, so he was having a relaxed stroll back to his apartment when he suddenly stopped in his tracks. In front of him was the one thing he feared the most - a girl! One older than him, at that. A very disheveled girl. His instincts warred over his nervousness and he wondered how she'd gotten hurt. It was pretty weird to see something like that in broad daylight.

Curiosity won over cowardice and Jeremy decided to approach. Maybe she needed the help of a healthy young boy with a fair amount of money.
"Um, excuse me..." He said, walking closer to the girl's back.
Closing the distance allowed him to see the extent of her injuries. It didn't seem to be anything major, but the blond haired girl seemed very tired. In fact, he could practically smell the depressive mood on her. Being this close suddenly made him somewhat nervous again.
"Miss, a-are you alright?" He managed to say.

No, of course it wasn't, but how could ever think of burdening her with any of that?

"Yeah, I, uhh... I'm just tired. I got caught up with an... incident at the school last night is all. I took care of it, but it took a lot out of me. I'll be fine once I can get a proper night of sleep." Which he doubted he'd be getting tonight. How could he sleep after this? Speaking of things that would keep him up at night. "Have you talked to Vera yet?"

Vera certainly hadn't said anything to him yet. In many ways, Vera wasn't the same person she'd been before Alex's coma. How would she react to this? Her animosity wasn't directed at Alex, so he shouldn't have been too worried, but... He wasn't sure he was ready to have to put himself between the two in the worst case scenario.

@Spin The Wheel

Aly stumbled out of the alleyway. Each step was an effort, but she was at least able to move. She took her time to round the next corner, one of many she'd need to take on the way home. She felt the stares of others. Maybe they were concerned, maybe they were pitying her. She was hoping to give off enough of an aura to discourage anyone trying to help her.

Of course, someone piped up. Alyona clenched her hand. The last thing she needed was some other delusional kid to get the wrong idea. She had half a mind to slash at the source of the voice with a lance - maybe she'd catch him by surprise and absorb enough energy to be able to run before he recovered. Her lances didn't leave any permanent scars. It'd be a hard sell to convince the police that any real damage was done.

However, as she turned to see the boy face-to-face, her glare of disdain turned briefly to confusion as she looked over Jeremy - then she burst into laughter when she reached the hat on his head. "[What the hell?]" she exclaimed in Yekaterinan, then quickly switched back to Rhean. "Oh gods, I'm being asked if I need help! By someone in a wizard hat!" As she laughed, her face twitched with pain and tears formed in her eyes. "I can't... It hurts to laugh... I'm definitely in Hell..." She gasped, clutching her side and steadying herself on the nearby wall. Crumpling to the floor, it almost seemed like her laughter was equally dispersed among sobbing.

Overall, she gave off the impression that she was not okay.

Alex

@KillamriX88

Alex was no good at hiding her feelings, so she was certain Wolf could tell when she flinched at the mention of Vera. She didn't even notice it herself until she had already done it, and she couldn't meet Wolf's eyes. 'Ah. I couldn't keep it together. I should probably be honest...' She thought to herself, immediately overcome with self-awareness.

"W-We talked... Um. Sort of." Alex started fumbling with her words, thinking of how to bring up what happened without making it sound bad - or rather, without making it sound like what actually happened. "T-There was a l-lot to discuss, and we... Uh... I was..."

Alex couldn't put together the right words. 'What am I going to say?! "I ran into her in an illegal fighting ring that I was visiting because I thought my powers would get a bunch of people cheering for me?" Or maybe "We talked but mainly punched each other?" What was I thinking, trying to be honest?!?!' She tried to take a deep breath, clenching at the hem of her uniform.

"M-Maybe we didn't talk, actually..." It was sort of the truth. After all, it was Andras at the Midnight Tournament, not the meek student Alexandria. Totally different people. "I-I just saw her somewhere...?" Alex wasn't sure if the wrenching nervousness she felt in her gut was because she was lying to her friend, or because she was scared of telling the truth. "I-Is she... Well? Er. I mean, you're still talking to her, right?" Alex weakly tried to divert the conversation.

Today was truly a day of firsts for Jeremy, who had just accomplished two things he had never thought he could ever do. He had made a girl laugh, and then he made her cry. While the former was generally considered good, the latter was almost certainly bad. Early in his childhood, Jeremy's mother had made him swear to never make another girl cry, and this was a promise he had always followed. Even though, at the time, he hadn't known what it meant. It was an oath he had always upheld, until now.

Well, there was that one time, but that wasn't really his fault. He did apologise for it, though.

At any rate, because Jeremy continuously upheld this gentlemanly vow, he had never once seen a girl break down in front of him. Truth was, he hadn't had any experience with girls near him at all. Needless to say, this close encounter heavily flustered the young man. His first reaction was to run away, but he quickly quashed his instincts. He didn't know why she was crying, but it was his words that had caused it, and a man aught to take responsibility for his actions. And also, there were some people who saw what happened, and they were watching his every move. If he just left this girl to her fate, it would probably be very embarassing for the both of them.

Jeremy quickly scanned the area, hoping to find the solution to his predicament. Thankfully, there was a vending machine nearby. The boy decided to buy some drinks, which would hopefully help his maybe-victim calm down. He took some money out and briefly wondered what to buy. He glanced over his shoulder at the girl, still sitting on the floor, and decided against getting regular water. It was just a guess, but judging by her wet clothes and drenched hair, more water would not be appreciated. He turned back to the machine to consider his options.

There were several popular options, along with some oddball picks he had never heard of. Jeremy decided to play it safe. He inserted his money, pressed the button combination for classic cola, and then... Nothing. No clunking came from the machine, and the soda never emerged from the bottom. He pressed the refund button. A whirring sound came from the return slot... And still, nothing. Jeremy frowned, but the screen interface flashed a warning. They were out of cola. That explained the lack of soda, but what about his money?

Jeremy grimaced. Nothing he could do about it. He picked a few of the more popular drinks, all of which were apparently absent from the machine. Each attempt took a small tithe of his hard-earned money and produced no results. None of it was returned. The boy was glaring hatefully at this infernal machine, but decided on one more try. The boy watched, eyes seething with rage as another bill was swallowed by the void, but this time, he ran his hand up and down every button on the machine. He was very annoyed right now, and it wasn't like anything would come out anyway, right?

The devilish device shook ominously, as if cursing the boy for his hubris. Jeremy took a step back warily, before a dozen cans rapidly fell out from the drink slot, the storm of metal shooting onto the street and rolling underfoot.
"Ah!" Jeremy exclaimed, and his panicked attempts at dodging backfired, causing him to slam face first into the pavement. "Ugh,"

He groaned, rising up on his knees and rubbing his nose.
An errant can rolled to a stop in front of his face, and he picked it up. It was one of the esoteric options from the baffling beverage dispenser, a foreign drink from Izumo judging by the script on the front. It was apparently red bean-based.

Jeremy pocketed what cans he could and cradled the rest haphazardly in his arms. It wasn't exactly what he wanted, but it would have to do. He returned to the girl, battered and weary, and placed one of the cans next to her as an offering.
"Here, have a sip of this. Maybe it'll make you feel better." He said, smiling awkwardly.
He didn't know if it was good or bad, but it was the thought that counted. He had accidentally spent a much larger sum than he had intended to, but he was left with a somewhat even amount of drinks. And the point of it wasn't his satisfaction, but the girl's. Jeremy felt awash with pride at his good deed.

The boy shifted the lion's share of cans to his left hand and popped open one of them open, so he could enjoy the fruit of his labour. He took a sip and sighed.
'Wow,' Jeremy thought to himself. 'This tastes really bad.'

Aly felt the presence of the boy diminish as she cradled her sides, but she refused to look up to see as she cradled her sides and waited for her mild breakdown to pass. For a moment she hoped that he may have got the message and let her be, but he eventually returned. Resting against the wall, she stared blankly at the can he set near her. 'Just like how you would leave food for a wild animal.' Aly was sure this wasn't the gesture the boy was attempting - unlike the last boy she ran into, this one seemed a little too naive to insult her in such a way intentionally.

After some internal deliberation she decided to accept the gift anyway. Aly was never one to let something free pass her up. 'As if I have any dignity left to lose anyway...' She thought to herself, cracking open the can. It was clearly imported, as the can felt different from domestic Rhean - it actually reminded her of Yekaterina's cans. Alyona did not flinch as the can sprayed carbonated fizz across her face: It was something she was entirely used to by now.

If she wasn't the magnet for bad luck as she was, it would have looked like the boy was playing a prank on her by giving her a shaken can, but Aly knew it would have had that outcome anyway. Aly never bothered trying to understand the underlying logic behind her aura. It was clearly something that would defy logic in order to operate, and she left it at that. She took a sip of the drink, and nearly began another coughing fit the second it touched her tongue. Aly's eyes narrowed as she looked at the can. Of course, most of it was covered in a foreign language, and the parts that were written in the local language were questionably translated marketing slogans.

The taste provoked a complex emotion. Alyona hated it. The thought of someone thinking it was a product you should sell made her skin crawl. It was a carbonated beverage, but it was apparently served warm according to the illustrated parts of the label. And it seemed to have some kind of pulp or natural product inside the drink too. The carbonated slurry was bland when she first tasted it, then built into a sickening sweetness that lingered in her mouth. It all came together into a baffling cacophony of tastes.

She took another sip. Yes. She still hated it. It felt like an anchor, a truth that she could cling to. She could barely walk, but she could hate this drink all day. She took a deeper swig. Despite the look of smoldering disdain in her eyes, she nursed the can as she regained her composure.

Aly remembered the boy that got her the can to begin with was still standing nearby after a few moments. He seemed to have got way too many cans - Aly guessed there may have been a mishap along the way. That was his problem, in her eyes, and there was of course no way to prove it was Aly's fault. "Boy." She said, holding the can up a little as she turned her gaze to him, "You have got a master class in bad taste." Despite what she said, she gave the slightest nod of approval as she took another drink. "What is it you're after, exactly?" She gave him a sly look as she asked.

Alyona didn't really have the boy figured out at all, but she assumed the boy wanted something if he was going to such lengths. Somehow, despite everything, he had managed to make things a little less terrible. She'd at least hear him out, for that.

Boy? Jeremy wasn't a boy, was he? He was 15. 15 glorious years on earth, probably a brief moment in the lives of those dinosaurs that called themselves adults. But he was 15! In his reckoning, Jeremy was 3 years past the time when he should be called a boy, and in 3 years more he would become a man. Yes, he was short for his age (and he hadn't grown that much since he was 12, now that he thought about it), but surely he deserved some recognition for survivng another quarter of his life?

Wait, that wasn't the important thing here.

Jeremy pondered his response. He tried to meet the girl's eyes, but quickly looked away. He wasn't used to this, and she looked really mad for some reason. He hoped it wasn't his fault, and if it was, he didn't meant to do it. But what was he doing here, then? Nothing, really. He wasn't here for any particular reason. If he saw someone dishiveled in the street he would usually make some half-hearted excuse in his mind and leave them alone, but he didn't today was because he felt like it. It was just something he should do. And he had bought her a drink purely out of gentlemanly concern. It didn't have anything at all to do with the pretty girl and her wet shirt. Absolutely not.

The boy coughed to himself to clear his head. This was no time for such thoughts. Jeremy was a gentleman, a gentleman! He had to say something, otherwise she may think his intentions were... impure.
"Well, I was just passing by and thought you needed some help." He said, taking another sip of the drink.
The sweet, goopy soda assaulted his tongue, tiny bubbles struggling against the over-sugared 'liquid'. Was it getting worse? He didn't think that was possible.
"I just... I'm kind of wondering how you ended up like that. I mean, you don't have to tell me if you don't want to, I guess..."

Jeremy didn't seem to realise that the way he was avoiding eye contact with the girl very obviously put the purity of his intentions into question.

"How I ended up like this?" Aly looked up towards the sky, lost in thought for a moment. "I... Was always like this." She held up her hand, looking at the tattoo-like markings that snaked and converged along her arms and discolored her right hand's skin. A lot of different memories briefly flashed in Alyona's mind. She had to look away, wiping her eyes for a moment.

She took another sip of her terrible drink, coming back to reality with the sting of its taste. "It's like how you have that up there, I'm sure." She gestured to Jeremy's head. "The gods, playing with us like toys." She gave him a sly glance, realizing her own assumption. "Unless you're wearing that for fun...?"

Since attacking the poor kid was off of the table (he could easily describe her to the police by now, and he clearly had enough problems on his own as is) she decided to instead settle on needling him with a teasing question. He was probably used to it by now, anyway, if that hat really was part of a "gift."

She needed to change the subject anyway. Alyona was not expecting to be taken off guard by such a simple question. 'How I ended up like this...' It wouldn't have hit her as hard if it wasn't something she had asked herself countless times. Maybe some day she'd have an answer.

"Um," Jeremy began.
'I just wanted to know why you're covered in water.' He thought, but it was too late to say that now.

He wasn't expecting to face a philosophical argument today (if it had to do with the Gods then it was probably theological, right?), but it wasn't as if he had never thought about it. Ever since his encounter with the "God" of """"Reality"""", the thought would flit through his mind from time to time. Jeremy thought things would change when he got a gift, forgetting that most Gifts were pretty innocuous boons which slightly increased a person's quality of life. For all the glory they got, it was worth remembering that beneficial Gifts were rare, and the Gifts that called to the gods that gave them were infinitely more so.

"I mean, mine's not that bad. My Gift, I mean. At least I can use it to run away when people try to hit me." Jeremy said. Contrary to his true feelings, Jeremy was defending his gift. It was as if he didn't want to lose.
"It's-" He almost said it was better than nothing, but that wasn't entirely true. It made running away easier, but hiding was a lost cause with the ethereal wizard hat permanently fixed onto his head. "It could be worse." Jeremy reasoned.
"It could've been, like... you know, that one guy, the Crocodile Man from Lasgo."

Now there was a sorry tale. A man cursed with the appearance and instincts of a crocodile with the mind of a human, doomed to forever wander the sewers of Albion. He was actually a pretty decent guy, apparently, and he had a pretty nice crib from all the money he got from doing media interviews. But still, it must've been a pretty painful way to live.
"Anyway, if you just keep your head up, things will get better eventually... Or something..." Jeremy's voice trailed off powerlessly.
Really, he was just lying to himself at this point. He had kept an eye out on these kinds of things. A method of 'fixing' bad gifts, or losing them, things like that. What the gods give only the gods can take, or so they say. There were probably gifts that could take away other gifts, but if so, surely someone would know about it, and he hadn't found anything. Just a little bit, all he wanted to do was get rid of his godforsaken hat. But what else could he do besides dream about it? How could Jeremy do what the Crocodile Man, or the Elephant Man, or any other of the millions of maligned individuals failed to do?

Jeremy sighed and batted at the blue brim. His hand passed clean through, as usual. There was no use worrying about things that wouldn't happen, so he decided to focus his efforts on the more current issue.
"Anyway," He said again. "Do you still need some help? I can call an ambulance, or something?"

"No point. That kind of stuff won't help me." Alyona tried to crush the empty can in her hand, but she couldn't quite manage it - the imported can had stronger walls to stand up to international shipping and she was still at her limit. She settled on tossing it.

She took a deep breath and stood up, bracing herself against the wall. She needed the deep breath to brace her body for the strain of standing, but it also steeled her for an embarrassingly theatric move - which she, unfortunately, had done too many times in the past. "There's only one thing you can do that actually helps." Leaning closer to Jeremy, she met his eyes with an intense stare. "You've heard of vampires, haven't you?" Alyona finished her statement with a smile that showed off her perfectly white teeth.

It wasn't her favourite method of getting to leech off of someone, but it had something resembling a success rate in the past - and might actually work better in Rhea where superstitions were different from Yekaterina. Alyona dreaded walking home with her injuries more than she dreaded some random kid on the street thinking she was a weirdo, at least. Plus, it wasn't a crime if they agreed to it, according to Alyona's nonexistent knowledge of Rhean law.

"Whoa!" Jeremy said, lunging to stop the thrown can with his foot.
Littering was bad, even if the drink sucked. But it seemed consistent with her personality, what with the tatoos and all. And it seemed like she got into a fight, or something... Was she, perhaps, a delinquent student? Or even worse, could she be a member of the dreaded Mephisto's School for the Wickedly Inclined? Legends say that the school was a gathering ground for criminals, and that the school building itself is enchanted in such a way that only those with the blackest hearts could enter.

Well, that was what the kids around him said, so it was probably heavily exaggerated. Jeremy wanted to give this girl the benefit of the doubt, even if she was saying something about vampires right now. Wait, vampires?
"Huh?" Jeremy said, taking a moment to process what he heard. He did, indeed, hear correctly.
"Yeah, everyone's heard of vampires. What about them?"
It was an old legend with some kernels of truth. The tale of an ancient historical king with a unique Gift had been embellished and rewritten a countless amount of times. But what did that have to do with anything?

Aly didn't like it when they asked further questions. She was hoping he'd get the idea, but she WAS keeping things vague on purpose. She would just have to suck it up and commit to the act. "I don't just heal up like normal. I need to take it from others." She took a small step forward. "That's a way you can help me. It won't leave a mark on you at all, I promise." She let her voice waver as she proposed the idea - adding in perhaps a tinge of desperation might help, though it was mainly just because of the various bruises she had protesting her movement. She didn't have the best read on the boy, but she was banking on looking hurt being the ticket for getting his sympathy. He at least seemed innocent enough not to ask for something weird. It would have been just her luck to get a middle schooler who would ask for a kiss in return or something.

That last part she said was actually true, though Aly was careful not to guarantee it was painless. Her lances didn't break skin or cut through anything, so there would be no mark from being drained. However, from firsthand accounts, she knew that it wasn't exactly pleasant to be hit by one either. From her end, though, she thoroughly enjoyed the sensation of leeching energy from people. Alyona never put much thought into describing it - she wasn't a poet and didn't intend on becoming one any time soon.

"Er, I guess it'll be alright then." Jeremy said nervously.
He wasn't entirely sure what he had signed up for. He wanted to refuse politely and make his way out, but she looked so sad... He had stopped to help her, after all, so maybe this was fine? The rumours of vampires had been widely exaggerated, so it should be fine. Then again, she was still a stranger of unknown origins, so maybe she was trying to take advantage of him... She was basically asking that to his face, wasn't she?

His mind was going a mile a minute, and he opened his mouth to speak. But all he could say was, "This won't make me a vampire though, will it?"

Alyona had got that question before too. "Luckily for you, it doesn't work that way." It was definitely one of the top things people asked in the situation. The thought of permanently inflicting her curse on someone else made her smile, but the idea primarily existed in the realm of fiction. Much like her smile.

Of course, the boy had agreed, and Alyona was even nice enough to assure him that she wasn't contagious. It was time to seize the opportunity before he developed second thoughts. She reached out with her right hand, focusing intently for a moment.

Alyona had perfected the art of leeching from a willing victim after lots of practice. A lance could easily pass through the entire body without issue, draining from everything it touched, causing all sorts of issues. That was what happened in a fight, and it was fairly good at disabling someone. Working on someone willing took more finesse. Just draining from a single point with a deep lance hit would concentrate the negative effects in a single area, and oftentimes left the donor feeling rather irate at her when their arm suddenly refused to work. It had taken a long time for her to learn exactly how to project lances that were small and numerous to take from many spots at once. It was harder than actually learning how to encase her teeth in lances (something she did to sell the vampire angle more, but retired for... so many reasons), but it was worth it. It did require close contact, but that was almost a given.

She grabbed Jeremy's arm, each finger projecting a thin lance that went right through his clothing as if it wasn't there. She leaned in close and wrapped her free arm around him - the same arm also running draining lances across his back. "There's no biting, either. So be glad about that." She whispered. She was hoping more to mess with his focus and draw attention away from what she was doing than actually attempting to inform him.

The lances did their work well, and almost instantly Alyona felt the rush of her stolen energy. As always, the desire to push further was there, but she pulled away after only a few moments. She didn't have the luxury of making a bigger scene than she already was making. She aimed to drain enough to make inflict soreness, perhaps the tingling of an asleep arm for some time, but not anything more.

"Haah... I think I can at least walk home now." Alyona stretched, visibly becoming more steady on her feet in the moments since leeching energy from Jeremy. "You're a lifesaver, kid."

Jeremy's heart started beating rapidly as the girl slung her arm around his back, and then it lurched for an entirely different reason. He couldn't help but cry out in surprise as a numbing sensation entering his body. It felt cold, and he thought he felt something getting sucked out. His knees abruptly gave way and he fell on the floor with a thud. Truly, her power was terrifying, to drain the power from his legs without even touching them. It certainly had nothing to do with the close, intimate contact he was having with a girl. No sir.

"I'm okay..." Jeremy muttered, grabbing a railing to get himself up.
As soon as he tightened his grip on the metal, his arm was assaulted by pins and needles and he fell back down, scattering the cans he had kept in his pockets. Jeremy grimaced and picked them back up with his other hand, before slowly getting back up on his feet. His back was sore for some reason and his arm was numb, but at least the girl looked healthier.
"N, no problem..." He said dispiritedly, in response to her gratitude.

He hadn't expected such a sensation, but the girl was helped. Now the issue was whether he could get home on his own. Fortunately, it seemed the spell on his legs was only temporary so he shouldn't have much of a problem, even if he was weighed down by the half-dozen cans he'd accidentally aqcuired. Jeremy made to leave, but realised something and turned around.
"So, um... I guess I'll see you around?" He asked the girl.
How did cool people say goodbye to each other?

Alyona almost felt a pang of regret seeing the boy fumble around after being drained. Almost. Despite everything, he tried to keep up a cool facade. Alyona could respect that. If she truly wished him the best, Aly would wish she never sees him again. Maybe he'd come to reflect on this time as the moment he learned not to trust everyone he met. Or perhaps that was Aly projecting her own view on the world with such a thought.

"It's a big city. But who knows, maybe we will meet again. Fate is like that." Truth be told, Aly wasn't sure if she was joking or not when she said that. She gave him a last wave as she turned to leave. "[Goodbye.]" She added in Yekaterinan, the farewell hopefully being clear even without a translation.

After she had made some distance from Jeremy, she couldn't help but notice a lightness in her pockets. As she checked, Alyona realized that the fighting from earlier had torn a hole in them, and she had dropped a significant number of her Yekaterinan candies... Most likely right where she stood talking with Jeremy. 'That kid better notice them. I'm definitely not going back to get them.' If his taste was as bad with candy as it was with sodas, maybe the Yekaterinan candies would actually be agreeable to him. Apparently, what was considered a treat in Yekaterina was nothing like a treat in Rhea. If they ever did meet again, she would have to see if he liked them.

Jeremy watched the girl go, eyes sparkling. She disappeared around the corner and he turned to leave as well, lamenting that he probably wouldn't see her again for some time. As he did, he brushed something with his foot and looked down. There was a handful of wrapped candies at his feet. He knelt down and picked them up with his good arm - they must have belonged to the girl. Jeremy squinted at them as he examined them. He could theoretically treat it as a reward (they weren't much, but better than the cans, he supposed), but they technically weren't his. Well, candy didn't have an expiration date so he could just hold on to them. Jeremy pocketed the candies and went on his way.

Despite a rather dour first impression, and some minor muscle soreness, he had come away from the encounter rather positively, in his opinion. He could return the candy if he ever saw her again, and if he didn't, then he could eat them. He wondered when next they would meet. He wondered what her name was too. Now that he thought about it, had he given her his name? He wondered what the candies tasted like...

Unbeknownst to himself, Jeremy was beaming as he walked home.
