Avenger does not have guns, but if you go rogue, you'll find a squad of badasses teleported to your ship to explain it is a bad idea. Directly into your mind in some cases :D


This reminds me, in Star Trek you generally can't teleport through shields (they bend these rules as the plot requires though), is this generally the same across the board in other universes with both shields and teleporters?

The Asgard themselves have no such rules on shields but Tau'ri ships are generally held to this.

Iirc stargate asgard twleporter amd rings also needs to drop the shields, gate travel itaeself is a wormhole that pretty much bypasses anything.

Mass effect doesn't really have personal teleport but since even using the conduit is basically hurling yourself at FTL speed through normal space, it would depend on the strength of the kinetic barrier. And then you'd hit the armor xD It was never well explained to me how did the conduit manage to transport a tank through the walls of the presidium without it turning into a small sun via impact xD

The psionic teleport from XCOM is hard to tell, it was never explained. I'm assuming it is a wormhole as well, so it just creates a spatial connection from point A to B, therefore connecting a place inside the shields via spacetime route which the shield doesn't cover, but who really knows.

Power ranger teleport in the shows seemed to have been somehow through normal space as well, but it's drankly magic so flip a coin.

Not that familiar with the other IPs

I... Don't know. You don't really see this in Halo as teleport tech like that is generally only done by the Forerunners.

however there's a difference between Transporters and Forerunner teleportation tech. Transporters stay within the realm of the universe, Forerunner teleportation uses incredibly precise miniature Slipspace portals (Halo's FTL tech, for those unaware), which circumvent natural protections, but the Covies don't have access to such small scale teleportation. I'd probably say Covie ships would block Transporter attempts, but anything that does extradimensional bullshittery would work.

Honestly it seems to me like a thing that a designer might be selecting consciously. You are disallowing yourself from teleporting, but you are also preventing someone else from teleporting to you. Then it's an individual rating of the benefit-risk ratio which thing you choose.

Could be that Tau'ri figured tanking a few hits with armor to allow transport was better than having to worry of having a nuke beamed on board at any time. This is kinda synergic with how explosions (to a degree) were dealt with by the innertial dampeners on the Bilisknir.

And we're debating this because we're all geeks and it's fun?

Essentially why I asked, and particularly spurned on by the threat of having commandos just teleported onto a vessel.

But having a consistent rule about it would be cool, though we have a couple of different teleportation methods. I understand for Trek why shields block standard transporters since they convert matter to energy. I can also see why teleporters that utilize wormholes/space folding wouldn't be hindered by this limitation. Much, in the same way, the Stargazer's spore drive allows it to perform near-instantaneous travel through the mycelial network. This too would circumvent traditional energy shielding.

Canonically xcom requires the a gate on the other end, so that can be limited that way. Only the Avatar and Templar can teleport on their own, amd the Templar would require allied or enemy humanoid unit to swap place with.

I'm starting to be glad that I didn't play the Time Lords again given Doctor Who's numerous means of teleporting things. And transmat is apparently something the Time Lords ascended past needing when their universe was half its size. Or so they claim.

Granted, they can also just pick people out of transmat beams without harming them, so...

But yeah. One of the forms of particle transmission, basically teleportation, and they could just nab you mid-teleport.

Ahhh, I see.

Well, if anything... Libran and co. might be surprised to see aliens that look inhuman, since the Archelian precursors seeded the galaxy with humanoid life in the SBY verse with the only exception being the Beemelans... who are already long dead.
