His typical outfit consists of a slim-fit double-breasted suit that emphasizes his physique, worn beneath an embellished leather overcoat and topped with a fedora and scarf draped over the shoulders. When relaxing, Vilhelm's "casual" outfit is a matching trouser-and-waistcoat combo worn over a ruffled white shirt.

ℙ𝕖𝕣𝕤𝕠𝕟𝕒𝕝𝕚𝕥𝕪: A descendant of Northern Barbarians famed for their brawn and battle-fury, Vilhelm has spent the better part of his adult life attempting to defy the stereotype of primal savagery cultivated by his forebears. He is refined, well-mannered, and restrained, if rather straight-laced and stoic; carrying himself with the dignity and authority of a decorated military officer.

Placing great value in his personal integrity, Vilhelm is dutiful and honorable: keeping true to his word, showing disdain for underhanded or below-the-belt methods, and having, perhaps, an overinflated sense of justice and fairness.

Seeing the pursuit of Strength - both literally and metaphorically - as one of Man's highest callings, Vilhelm encourages not only himself, but those around him to seek Strength in all its forms. It was Strength, after all, that motivated him through a sickly childhood; his ill-fated career as a boxer; and the restoration of his tainted honor as a Bounty Hunter bringing criminal bands to justice.

Despite his genuine nobility, however, Vilhelm carries more of the Barbarian in him than he cares to admit. He is mercurial and easily-offended, quick to laughter or anger in equal measure. Prone to deep and sudden melancholies with little provocation, Vilhelm can be brusque, irritable, or even completely non-verbal in his ruminations. Most dangerously, however, is Vilhelm's temper. His anger is a terrible beast: swiftly roused and violently aimed at whatever object or person is offending him. This wellspring of Rage is a double-edged sword: a source of both power and immense shame for Vilhelm, who has tried for years to control it without success.

• In times of deep thought or idleness, Vilhelm has a tendency to stroke his beard and mustache.
• To ward off joint stiffness, Vilhelm regularly cracks his knuckles and fingers, and rhythmically clenches and unclenches his fists. (Good warning sign of impending anger).

• Physical Fitness - Due in no small part to his career path, Vilhelm is in incredible physical shape given his age, able to keep up with much younger men with relative ease. His strength, especially, is almost-superhuman at times, and is a source of great pride.
• Bare-Knuckle Boxing - A professional prizefighter in his youth, Vilhelm's skills as a boxer have not left him. While not as fast or agile as he used to be, he still possesses a very mean left hook, and can incapacitate several untrained opponents with little trouble.
• Bartitsu - A different fighting style adopted after his fateful last match, Vilhelm favors Bartitsu for general self-defense and light skirmishes, incorporating both his old boxing techniques with his ever-present walking cane to discombobulate and immobilize street thugs or other low-grade threats without resorting to his more brutally straightforward fighting style.
• Marksmanship - Vilhelm is an adequate shot - though a poor hand at the quick-draw - and can competently wield both pistols and rifles, though he's not fond of guns.
• Riding - Vilhelm can competently ride a horse, but is by no means a jockey.
• Diplomacy - As a well-dressed man of fine breeding, Vilhelm is a skilled diplomat, impeccably polite in nearly all social situations. He is able to adopt both a commanding authoritativeness or more gentle, grandfatherly aspect depending on the situation, demonstrating a refined charm no matter which persona is used.
• Literacy - Thanks to a high-class upbringing, Vilhelm is a gifted writer and orator, having spent the better part of his early childhood immersed in his family's library.
• Investigation - While no master sleuth, Vilhelm's present career in Private Security has made him an able investigator, typically relying on word-of-mouth, newspaper reports, or even the occasional undercover operation when necessary.
• Bookeeping - Easily the most mundane item on this list, Vilhelm was a bookkeeper for a period following his boxing career, and as such, he possesses excellent organizational skills, a fine attention to detail, good communication skills, and unshakeable personal integrity.

𝕄𝕒𝕘𝕚𝕔𝕒𝕝/𝕊𝕡𝕖𝕔𝕚𝕒𝕝𝕥𝕪 𝕊𝕜𝕚𝕝𝕝𝕤:

• Rage - Though it is not something he is not proud of, and can hardly be considered a "skill", Vilhelm's capacity for anger does indeed have its uses. When sufficiently angered, injured, or otherwise emotionally compromised, the dam holding back Vilhelm's anger breaks, causing him to enter a state of primal ferocity. During this period: his already-immense strength is temporarily heightened to superhuman levels, he becomes highly-insensitive to, if not outright immune to pain; and his fighting style becomes much more brutal and direct. As powerful as these Rages are, however, they are short-lived, leaving Vilhelm exhausted, weak, and wracked with extreme guilt as soon as he regains his senses.

ℍ𝕚𝕤𝕥𝕠𝕣𝕪:

𝕊𝕦𝕞𝕞𝕒𝕣𝕪: Vilhelm Lundstrøm's family first emigrated to the Iridian Empire three generations ago, and through hard work, determination, and just the right amount of luck, his grandfather climbed the rungs of society from lowly woodcutter to founder and patriarch of an extremely profitable lumber company, which to this day provides much of the timber used by the surrounding towns and cities across the Republic.

Perpetually in poor health, Vilhelm spent much of his early childhood stuck in the family home, which, while spacious and comfortable, felt more-and-more like a prison to the frail boy as he grew older and became increasingly-aware of his limitations. While he does not look back on those years with much fondness, Vilhelm does credit them as being the beginning of his interest in literature, as the innumerable books in the family library became his only real escape to the outside world.

Upon reaching age twelve, Vilhelm decided that he would no longer be shackled by his physical ailments, and knew that the best way to break those shackles would be in mastering the physical. Now old enough to leave the house alone for short periods, Vilhelm took to chopping down trees in the woods behind the house, and subsequently chopping firewood from those fallen trees in daily ritual. This simple repetition of labor was a slow-and-steady process that, with time and continued efforts, eventually bore fruit. Within a few years, Vilhelm had changed from a pallid and scrawny youth into a robust and burly teenager, free from the frailties that plagued him almost his entire childhood.

With this newfound physique came a newfound passion for boxing, both as an expression of physical power, and an avenue for Vilhelm to make his own mark on the world, without relying on his family's wealth and reputation. Sure enough, by age eighteen, Vilhelm had entered his first match as a professional prizefighter.

This marked the beginning of a lucrative twelve-year boxing career that brought further fame and fortune to the Lundstrøm name. Vilhelm was a natural in the ring: fighting with a swiftness and ferocity that made him a fan-favorite spectacle. At the peak of his fame, all believed that this would be a shining legacy for Vilhelm; a source of pride and honor for generations to come...But no one could have predicted what would happen next.

Now thirty years-old, Vilhelm's years of experience had honed him into a more deliberate and restrained fighter. And by all accounts, his match on that fateful morning began just like any other: this time against an up-and-coming Half-Orc lad who was said to be almost as talented as Vilhelm was when he first started.

The crowd watched in eager anticipation the hot-headed and reactive offense of the young prodigy against Vilhelm's focused and ironclad defense. A brief-but-devastating feint shifted Vilhelm's guard long enough for the Half-Orc to land a sucker punch on Vilhelm's eye socket, sending him reeling backwards with a gasp from the crowd. With first blood now drawn, what was setting up to be an exciting match quickly turned to horror.

No one could say why it happened. Vilhelm had taken headshots in his career and shaken them off before, but whatever happened this time made him see red. With an animalistic roar that shouldn't have been possible from Human lips, Vilhelm hurled himself at his opponent with a fervor and savagery that was unseen even in the earliest days of his career. A rapid series of devastating punches quickly devolved into headbutts, eye-gouges, chokes, and a powerful throw that sealed the Half-Orc's fate. As soon as he hit the floor, Vilhelm was upon him with another flurry of punches, each accentuated by a hideous battle cry. The crowd was clamoring in shock and terror, and it took three referees to pull Vilhelm off. Though less than a minute had passed, the damage was already done: and the young challenger lay dead on the floor.

Arrested and charged with manslaughter for the horrifying incident, Vilhelm was exonerated due to a determination that the Half-Orc apparently died from a fractured skull sustained after hitting the unpadded floor, rather than any deliberate action on Vilhelm's part. This acquittal - while abound in rumors that the judge was paid off by Vilhelm's father - nonetheless meant that Vilhelm never saw the inside of a jail cell, though it was the last time he saw the inside of a boxing ring.

While that fateful morning was the first manifestation of Vilhelm's Barbaric Rages, it would not be the last: and the threat of that beast looming inside would stay with him to this day.

Spending the next five years in deliberate obscurity, Vilhelm focused his efforts within the family business. Despite everything that had happened, he still sought perfection in himself, and committed fully to the ideal of the perfect gentleman to hopefully prevent such a terrible incident from occurring again. He soon decided, however, that he could never truly grow and move on so long as he stayed where he was - where everything went wrong.

Coming out of his semi-retirement at thirty-five years old, Vilhelm left his birthplace and family, taking a stagecoach to the far southern reaches of the Republic surrounding the Kharakhi Desert, where his bloody past hopefully wouldn't follow him.

Deciding to aim his physical talents towards protecting others and fighting injustice rather than bloodying other men for sport, Vilhelm made a new name for himself as a bounty hunter and private security guard. Now, despite his advancing age, Vilhelm is still active in the field, and faces perhaps his most dangerous job yet: seeking the ancient treasure of Emperor Hadrian Augustus.

@Milkman Wonderful IC post - I can't wait to get underway! I was going over Vilhelm's backstory with a bit more scrutiny now that the excitement of getting it done has passed, and I wasn't satisfied with his current occupation or really motivations to even want to go after Hadrian's treasure. So if it's alright with you, I'm going to alter his current occupation into professional Treasure Hunting rather than the more vague Bounty Hunter/Private Security. It fits nicely into his character and would give Katelyn Smith a more justified explanation for reaching out to him for this job!
