I see, thanks. I'm not so much worried about being spoiled on the series, as I am with being able to keep up with the RP with somewhat limited knowledge of the series canon. At the moment I'm tentatively interested, so we'll see if I can come up with a character.
I don't think the RP itself will require any advanced knowledge of the series to follow. We're starting out as low rank recruits, so any magical techniques and their mechanics and whatnot would have to be explained to us by the higher ups as we go along--like the runes Duthguy mentioned, for instance. Even with the advancements over the past 150 years, a lot of those magical techniques are limited more by the fact that you need a high degree of magic power to perform them at all, rather than it being a "just now discovered secret."
I only know Black Clover by its reputation (loud obnoxious kid) - though you did inspire me to give the manga a go. Thinking of fire elemental magic, specifically draconic magic. I'd say the basis would mainly be creating and manipulating flames, but I'm thinking there'd be some self-enhancing spells down the line too, if that's fine. (Read: I have FCs which are humans with horns/slitted eye I'd like to make use of if possible lol.)
@SilverPaw Some elements within the series have specialized variants, like "Ice Magic" vs (granted, this type only appeared in the movie) "Ice Wedge Magic" so something like "Fire Dragon Magic" allowing you to be Fairy Tail's Natsu, or partially shapeshifting individual limbs for attacks and such, would probably work!
Also the anime DID eventually figure out that they were gonna kill Asta's VA if they kept up all the screaming so it got better after a while, lol.
My gods, Asta... I remember several times during the early parts of the anime feeling strong compulsions to drop it, on account of the constant "YOU'RE MY RIVAL!" and "YUNO!" and "I'M GONNA BE THE WIZARD KING!". It was mostly fine as long as Yuno wasn't actually anywhere near Asta, but as soon as he showed up, my ears bled.
Thankfully, as @Zeroth said, they eventaully toned it down to... Tolerable... levels. xD

Yeah what I heard about the voice actor for Asta was enough to make me consider never seeing the anime, even though I enjoy the manga. Even there Asta's first on screen depiction of not taking no from a girl isn't exactly positive nowadays, but that is him at his worst and meant more as a way to show how big of a determinator he is (at that time to an unhealthy degree) than any lack of respect for her, and was as far as I know only a real issue in the first chapter. He is still obsessed with her at the point of the manga I'm at they just never interacted since
@ERode Ah man, it's starting to feel like it's time for another re-read of Negima, lol. Nice to have you aboard!
I've been working on the final drafts for the captain NPCs, since they'll be making an appearance at the exam, and within a day or two I should have a thread up so we can start officially stamping the CS submissions. I'll tentatively place our start date as sometime this coming weekend, if that's not too soon for everyone!
@Expllo Unless you'd like him to be an immigrant from the Hino Country (where Yami's from) Black Clover usually has Westernish/Fantasy names rather than the traditional Japanese ones. Also, so far as we know it's standard for every kid in the kingdom to attend a grimoire ceremony whenever it's held after they turn 15 (implied to be once per year when they tell Asta to try again). It wouldn't be a surprise for him to get one and he wouldn't necessarily need to sneak in, unless it's just his bandit buddy trying to avoid notice from any authorities who might've come to watch. Other than that I don't see any real issues, so let me know if you have any questions!
That's a fine explanation of his name as his background is pretty ambiguous, his parents could have very well been from there. I'm open to changing the name to fit the game thematically, no big deal. And yes that's what I was trying to portray they were trying to avoid local authorities who might recognize them, sorry for the confusion.
The weekend is perfectly fine with me as well. Can't wait to see the final product, seems like we have a pretty intriguing cast already.
@Expllo If you go with the immigrant angle, all you really need to know is that Hino is essentially fantasy-Japan, down to the wire. Since your character would've been raised and gotten his grimoire in the Clover Kingdom it wouldn't be relevant, but in Hino the natives also have Scrolls instead of Grimoires.
For the purpose of the RP, I don't really know if it'll come up in the plot much outside of the presence of NPCs, but I had been considering that the two countries had begun to interact more in the 150 years after canon. Developments in seafaring, trade agreements, etc, and now along the coastline in the bigger cities of the Noble Realm, there will sometimes be a "Hino Street," "Hino Town," or something along those lines where immigrants have begun to congregate. Of course, that doesn't stop them going anywhere else in the Realm they'd like or marrying into Clover families. So those who want to take some kind of influence from that for their characters, feel free!
@Zeroth I actually like this a lot; it adds a little more depth to my character I didn't even consider. That'll definitely be an interesting elemental going forward as he discovers his origins and culture.
"Forward, forward! Deliver upon our foes a storm of steel!"PERSONALITY: | (What does this person like, dislike, enjoy, etc? Do they have a pet peeve? How do they show affection? Do they have a certain manner of speaking or do they have any physical tells/habits? Etc etc.) |
MAGIC: | Lightning Magic: Capable of wide-spread destruction delivered at blinding speeds, the Leichenberg Family's Lightning Magic evokes a symphonic storm. Bolts of lightning rain from the heavens, while finer alterations of electric force repels invaders or informs allies. What could the hordes accomplish indeed, when they've been brought to heel as an audience to the conductor's calamitous castigation? |
SPELLS:
Canon: Heaven's Strike - Offensive - Lightning gathers upon the tip of Kreszenz's wand, before being released in a destructive blast. This can be continuously charged to increase the power of the spell or increase the amount of bolts released.
Caesura: Polar Bindings - Restraining - Two orbs of electrical energy are shot out towards two separate objects or individuals, before a magnetic bond is formed between the two and the lighter of the objects is swiftly drawn towards the heavier of the objects. Though generally used to pin someone to a wall or a rock, can also be used to propel a weapon towards them instead.
Forza: Inspiration and Aspiration - Communication - A halo of lightning manifests over Kreszenz's head and then shatters, releasing a wide-range electrical pulse in a large radius around her. Those that she recognizes as allies will receive the thoughts and images she has 'packaged' within the crown, while that same information will be just a scrambled burst of 'static' for anyone else.
ABILITIES & SKILLS:
High Mana Capacity - Even amongst other nobles, Kreszenz is beloved by mana, possessing exceptional quantities of it within her body. With such power, naturally comes ambition and expectation.
Battlefield Command - Kreszenz was taught at a young age that for the role she sought to attain, she would need to see others as tools, and to place such tools in the position which they would best perform. She acts decisively and commands boldly. Similarly, when failure strikes, she steps forth as the sole bearer of responsibility, for only cowards blame their tools.
Heart of Molten Iron - Her ambition, her expectations, her responsibilities. None of these could be upheld if she did not forge her spirit first. Her emotions run hot, but do not throw her into turmoil. In the face of tragedy and duress, Kreszenz digs in deeper and fuels her magic with rage or fear, yet does not let herself lose sight of the greater goal.
GOALS & FEARS: | To become the Wizard King, usurp the Clover King, and unite the world under a single banner, for the purpose of crafting a prosperous and purposeful society. |
| Kreszenz is entirely confident that she will accomplish her goal.
But in doing so, she understands that she will lose more and more of her time for being herself. That the closer she gets, the less she can afford to lose, and the more she has to give in order to ensure that. It's not enough to be strong, she must be unbeaten. It's not enough to be wise, she must be exemplar. It's not enough to give people freedom, she must give them purpose. It's not enough to beat her enemies, she must ensure that their ilk never step upon this side of the world again.
In exchange, she will lose music and quiet walks. She will trade what small joys she holds onto to become perfect.
And it will be worth it, for her mind rules her heart, and it tells her that this is just. | .............................................................................

@ERode Your character and mine has very similar goals just two different ways to go about it. I'm interested to see how that discussion would go if they were to ever interact.
@ERode I'll wait until it's finished before giving too much feedback, but so far it's looking like a very strong start!
@ExplloFunny enough, several Players have hit on aspects that are shared by some of the Captains, too. I think it's gonna be super interesting to see what happens as everyone climbs the ranks and gets to know who they're working for! >:)
OOC is up! Feel free to post any completed CS drafts for final review/approval. Since we're still waiting on several characters, the IC opener may not happen this weekend, so don't feel rushed!
