Name: Caitlin Morgan Cade
Age: 21
Gender: AFAB | Non-Binary (She/They)
What Makes You A Misfit?Outside of the glaring fact that they possess a supernatural power, Cait has lived a “counter-culture” lifestyle since her early teens. Not one bound for classroom education, Cait lived an early life of truancy, preferring to duck out of school to ride a skateboard, smoke marijuana, and, in general, party it up as often as she could; all the while, maintaining the barest minimum of an academic standing by which to get through high school. To find Cait in police custody or in the principal’s office was a common occurrence. More recently, she’s been known to cause indiscriminate damage when her emotions get stirred up, which is what alerted the government to her status in the first place.
What Do You Think About The Classified Crew?Having had run-ins with the Crew over the past couple of years, Cait is, validly, not too fond of them or the government. Following a raid upon a friend's that drove Cait to go on the run, she's been shifting between fear of the Classified Crew and anger towards them for what they've done.
Appearance:Personality:The operative words to define Cait in the present day are ‘holding back.’ She fronts with a calm and collected persona, coming across as relaxed, in control, and generally unbothered. She speaks with a stereotypical skater or surfer drawl. She's decidedly averse to aggression, frequently choosing to flee from physical altercations rather than engage. Despite boasting formidable power at her peak, she is hesitant, and outright refuses to utilize her full potential, even in life or death situations. Still, she maintains a certain reckless streak; even while on the run from the law, Cait ventures into public as often as she can, preferring to be out and about rather than cooped up or running through obscure places. She is one who is wanting to wander off, and will steal any moment she can use those subtle touches of her abilities in tandem with her pastimes.
Skills/Abilities:Cait bears little in the way of many “practical” skills. She has her fair share of street smarts, having spent a wealth of time traversing cities, ducking into back alleys, and blending into crowds. While not particularly gifted in terms of raw physical performance, she’s well-coordinated, balanced, and does have a fine-tuned control over her powers to utilize them inconspicuously.
Powers/Magic:Psionics; Caitlin’s mind is gifted with a potent psychic power that manifests in a broad litany of applications. The most prominent and widely used practice is that of psychokinesis, by which she generates and manipulates a form of kinetic energy through sheer force of will and concentration. Under normal circumstances, Cait’s psychokinetics are limited to affecting matter on the level of remotely moving solid objects; objects up to her own bodyweight are easiest to work with while maintaining minimal focus, while extreme thought and mindfulness can do just the same with materials that far exceed her own mass. The greater the mass Cait endeavors to move, the greater the focus she must muster, resulting in a need to be single-minded in the process, thereby leaving her functionally exposed.
Cait’s psychokinetic prowess can further be exercised in the form of pure, concussive pulses or blasts, which she refers to as “bullets” or “cannonballs” depending on how much force is put into them. The blasts carry a distinct mass in conjunction with the velocity with which they are launched, which can range up to as much as Cait’s own mass. They can have residual effects upon the surrounding environment, such as carrying gales of wind, or moving liquid surfaces. Cait has further fine-tuned her psychokinesis, utilizing it upon herself to achieve feats such as levitation, improving her maneuverability, and enhancing her fighting in hand-to-hand situations.
The psionic forces through which Cait achieves these feats has manifested a passive defense against certain methods of manipulation that might be levied against her. Efforts to directly disrupt, control, or breakdown Cait on a material or anatomical level are blocked by a subconscious binding that resists efforts to psychically alter her physical state. This doesn't, however, prevent the detriment of external incapacitating agents, mind control, and projections that would damage or harm her.
Cait's power is, to an extent, impacted by her psychological state. Intense lows of sadness or depression can dull and diminish the extent to which she can exercise her psychokinesis and weaken her passive defenses. Episodes of heightened excitement, fear, or anger sets her powers into overdrive, typically at the expense of her control.
Backstory:Born in Seattle, Washington, Caitlin’s family life was one of frequent moves due to the nature of her parents’ lines of work. Most of their relocations kept the three living along the west coast of the United States, from Washington state, down to southern California. Whether in Seattle or Los Angeles, Cait built a reputation as a degenerate, and amassed a rap sheet of misdemeanors and a few petty crimes, often found riding with a skate crew, grinding up local spots not meant for skating and other vandalism such as graffiti. When she concluded high school, she bailed on her family, then living in Seattle to pursue a career on her skateboard.
Her powers, having emerged when she was fourteen, had been kept well enough under wraps, and had scarcely escalated at home, and never in the public eye. Enamored with her own abilities, she honed them over time. Eventually, she excelled in utilizing her psychokinesis in subtle ways to apply to her skating, and came out of small competitions with high placements and decent payouts. On the side, she hustled by using her powers for parlor tricks on street corners, as well as finding ways to exploit them to commit small-time theft to get by. Little did she know that her actions weren’t going entirely unnoticed, as her repeated exploits had gotten government attention. The “Classified Crew” had begun keeping eyes on her shortly before she turned 20.
It was only a matter of time before she screwed up.
One night, at a raging party on Venice Beach in California, festivities broke into a violent riot. In the chaos, Cait’s powers manifested openly, injuring many, and damaging a fair amount of property. In the consequent scramble, Cait evaded the LAPD, and was pursued by the Classified Crew for several days. She managed to sit low with a friend in the area until the CC found and raided the home, prompting Cait to use her power once again to give them the slip and skip town. Knowing the west coast would be on high alert, Cait fled towards Nevada and steadily made tracks inland.
