...Y'know in hindsight, perhaps it might have been a good idea to have looked up what kind of adventure Threshold of Knowledge actually is after being the one to have asked which pre-made adventure we're going to play. 😖

Consider Nathaniel withdrawn. I'll have a new character up once I'm done looking before I leap.

@wanderingwolf Currently at work, but I can pitch my character's backstory later. Either here or in PM is fine (depending on if you want to use the information down the road to surprise other players).

Looking at the creatures, I think there could be some interesting things done with a Troodon's vocal mimicry ability as a companion creature. If I go with that should I adjust the companion dromaeosaur's stats, or just leave it as is?

@Cleveraptor Feel free to PM me, or put it in your character sheet so we can both reference it there in pathbuilder!

As far as creatures go, the other dinosaur is listed expressly as a companion, so that's why I leaned toward that choice. If you are set on Troodon, we can look at what stats to give it in exchange for abilities.

Oh, I see. Thinking about it, I think I'll stick with Deinonychus. Maybe try out Troodon another time.

@Cao the Exiled So I've skimmed through BotD, specifically the archetypes for PCs. Which were you thinking? The book itself notes them all as rare, but depending on how you're planning to disguise undeath, or somehow blend in with society, I'm curious what your plans are for having the character a part of a group of adventurers seeking out the study of magic.

For the sake of fun, I'm also not beyond waving a magic wand and having an undead transfer student join the adventure if that's the route we need to take.

Oh, yeah, I've been wondering something. I would suppose, in comparison to humans, dwarves age and mature more slowly. At about what age would a dwarf be the equivalent of, say, their mid-twenties?

Dwarves typically reach physical adulthood around the age of 25, though their traditionalist culture places more value on completing coming-of-age ceremonies unique to each clan than reaching a certain age. A typical dwarf can live to around 350 years old.


My guess with 25 being "physical adulthood," that maybe 30ish might be where you're aiming? Maybe 40ish? Go with your gut.

Calling for Backgrounds and Histories!


Alright all. After doing some more reading and familiarizing myself with the adventure we're going to be doing, I'd like to ask for character sheets and backgrounds for characters from this list:

1. @rush99999
2. @Frog Dog
3. @meri --- Vasimiri Gau
4. @Cao the Exiled
5. @PatientBean --- Fleur Levellayn

If you've already submitted your character sheet, I've placed the link to pathbuilder beside your name. What I'd like you to do is please go to the "Details" tab of your character sheet in Pathbuilder and fill out your background.

Why am I asking?


I want to look at how I might adjust the adventure to be more relevant to your character backgrounds. Should I change the NPC's? Adjust the puzzles? Bring in a different boss that might be tied to one of your backgrounds? These are all questions I want to consider, but I need your backgrounds to do that!

I added a backstory! It turned out a little wordier than I intended lol, let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I'd love to see any of Vasimiri's parents as NPCs, especially Motiauv, but that's totally up to you! I think the direction I'm going with the whole putting her sister's ghost to rest thing is that her sister didn't actually become a ghost and Vasimiri needs to stop chasing a false hope for closure/let go, but honestly a ghost fight would be rad as hell too. I look forward to the roleplay!

@meri Great backstory. I would find it interesting to include any number of elements from it. I'll take it into account as I collate the rest of the backgrounds. I must say, though, that I may not be as faithful to switch between pronouns as quickly as you have here: three different pronouns in a single sentence, and several times at that. Do you have a preference for which pronoun to chiefly use for this character, or is that why you have switched as often as you have in the background?

Thanks for getting a background up.

I'm planning on getting a game up on Thursday, with the hope of running a session zero first so we can talk about how to handle things like gender, race, sexuality, and the like.

Yeah, I totally get that multiple pronouns can be confusing. I don't expect anyone to switch between them as often as I did in the backstory—I just wanted to establish that they have three sets and I like the fun gender flavor lol. It can definitely get confusing when you're talking about multiple characters, though. "He" would probably be the best one to use consistently given the fact that "they" is somewhat nebulous when talking about multiple characters/things and "she" is the pronoun used by most of the major figures from Vasimiri's past and the pronoun for the other established player character so far. In the roleplay itself, I'll probably use one or two pronoun sets per post (depending on length) and make them different from whatever other characters I might mention, for clarity's sake. Feel free to just pick one set and stick with it if that's easier for you—Vasimiri doesn't prefer any over the others.
