Introduction
The once illustrious continent of Kaldora, ruled by the iron fist of the Folon Conclave has fallen into insignificance. Driven into ruin by the unstoppable force of industrialisation and the fervorous wills of its newly formed Council of Ten – evil has now enveloped the land.
The beauty of Kaldora stands in stark contrast to its dark underbelly. Her fertile plains teem with golden wheat and small, friendly farming communities that supply the populace with food, and her forests are rife with game and small almost ethereal oases. Yet her cities hold the stink of early industry. Factories cough black, putrid smoke into the air while thieves, beggars and all manner of undesirables roam the streets. Occultists lurk in the shadows, bending black magic to their will, summoning all manner of beasts and daemons from the Underworld to the mortal plane. Their frivolous use of the art has sickened the earth, causing the dead to now walk alongside the living as malevolent wraiths and apparitions.
The Council of Ten’s newly formed police force, the Wardens, have had their hands full for over a decade now. Stretched thin by battling both the corporeal and ethereal, they have taken to hiring outside help. Mercenaries and soldiers of fortune that have been fighting back against the paranormal for years. Bound by no cabal, they are able to resort to more unsavoury methods in combating their newly risen foes; aided by the blessings of God’s and Goddesses of old.
Kaldora’s fate is woven on a thin strand where the balance of power constantly tips to either side. The whispers of rebellion against the Council of Ten are high, and her history will be written by the few who choose to look fearlessly into the eyes of the nightmarish creatures that disgrace her once hallowed ground.
Footnotes
I’m planning on running this RP as a dark, early industrial fantasy roleplay. I’m looking for eight others (maybe more) including myself where I will act as a GM. I will help you explore the world while also writing world events and such in the background. There will be a rule of at least a post a week, but we'll tackle that when we get there.
In this world only humans exist, while there are paranormal creatures, deities, daemons and beasts. The only ‘civilised’ race are humans.
Magic does exist in this world, however it is more in the form of ‘blessings’ and ‘miracles’ than simply casting a spell. Black magic involves heavy sacrifice and some of the more powerful spells require covering the land in a city-sized sigil. There are things like healing potions, but they stand under a ‘blessing’ and could only be received by a priest or priestess of a certain deity.
Trying to follow with the theme, there will be western-style weapons such as repeaters and six-shooter revolvers, but it is also completely feasible to use a silver or blessed sword against your foes. There will also be things like trains and some basic electricity functionality, but no cars.
The class system will be very loose. If you were a warrior before you became a mercenary, you would be more skilled with a sword and more comfortable in close quarters. However if you were a priest or priestess you would be able to give minor blessings to your equipment, just because you started out as a warrior though, doesn’t mean you couldn’t learn to do the same. I want your character to develop alongside their knowledge and mastery of things in the world.
Following this backstory is also incredibly important, but broody and closed-off characters have no place in this world. If you’re planning on heading face-first into conflict without planning, requesting help, or casing a location first. You will die. And character death is going to be a reality. (within reason)
Following some interest and/or traction I'll get things underway with a character sheet, begin recruitment and I'll go from there!
Cheers, and if you have any questions feel free to reply to this post or send me a PM. I'm pretty new to this whole post-by-post RP thing.
