DIP

“Those who fail to learn the lessons of the past are doomed to repeat them.” –Winston Churchill, paraphrasing Jorge Santayana

The acronym stands for Die in Place…
...may God have mercy on the soul given the DIP Mission.

The United States Army doctrine mentions the use of a Detachment Left in Contact (DLIC) also known as the Dee-Lick. This is the unit that must remain and face the enemy while the rest of the army retreats or moves to a new location in order to either fight another day or attack from an unexpected location. Units assigned the task of being a DLIC are often aware of their limited future prospects for breathing air.

Your character is a warrior reincarnated over time. Each chapter covers a different life or period. A round of posts introducing our characters, a second round setting up the battle we are about to engage in, and then we post for several rounds until our characters die. The next chapter has time skips that will extend several years to allow your character to be old enough or young enough to fight in the next battle in their next life. We always begin and end as adult warriors. We don’t need a background story or even a character name to begin. We can tally the names we call ourselves as the roleplay evolves—adding them to our character sheets as we go. Our characters do not remember their past lives just like you don’t remember yours if the theory of reincarnation is true. Due to the consistency of our personalities, the lessons of our past lives we are doomed to repeat may have a subtle impact on your character’s personality in the future, but they don’t know why.

We will begin the roleplay in Ancient Greece as Spartan Warriors at Thermopylae sent to stop the Persian Army in the 5th century BC. If you are familiar with that engagement, you must be aware that everyone perishes.

The next and successive chapters will be decided by the group. I will use the 0th post above the OOC OP to list the battles or time periods we are going into in successive chapters. Anyone in the Roleplay can suggest where we end up next. Most of us should agree.

Leadership
If you want to be the leader in the next battle, please let us know and we’ll share leadership. One person doesn’t need to be the NCO or officer in charge of the unit every single time.

I really like the list presented, definitely a lot of solid choices of engagement to explore, although I do have two more possible battles, those of which being the Battle of Tours (732) and the 3rd Battle of Nanjing (1864)

@Festive We can easily fit Tours into the timeline. Nanjing happens at the same time as USCW. I'm OK with either one, but we couldn't do both.

I would personally prefer Nanjing more as I believe it adds more diversity to the battle set

You sold me on Nanjing!

I love your CS submission and format. Do you mind if I borrow that for this Roleplay? I will include it in the OOC.

For the Seven Years War, I suggest:
The Battle of Kolín on 18 June 1757 saw 54,000 Austrians under Count von Daun defeat 34,000 Prussians under Frederick the Great during the Third Silesian War. We would take on a role in the Prussian Army under Frederick the Great.

In the Napoleonic Wars, I suggest:
The Battle of Leipzig fought from 16 - 19 October 1813 saw 195,000 soldiers under the command of French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte lose to a coalition force of 365,000 men from Russia, Prussia, Austria, Sweden, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Saxony, Württemberg & the United Kingdom.

For the Great War, I suggest:
The Battle of the Somme fought from 1 July 1916 to 18 November 1916 with Over 3,000,000 soldiers participating and over a million combined casualties on both sides. This was probably the deadliest campaign in the history of human warfare with the British and French Armies losing 620,000 and the Germans losing 440,000 men.

Regarding WWII, I have read extensively on many accounts of various battlefields around the world. I know I can come up with something, but I will leave it up to you.

For Vietnam, I would like to go with units of the 173rd Airborne in the Central Highlands in 1967.

For GWOT, if we get that far, I know I can come up with something.

I may just delete the War with Spain in 1898.

I like the suggestions you put forth for the other wars; I believe that they would be great to portray. On the topic of WWII, I suggest that we portray the Second Battle of El Alamein in the African Campaign. This battle, primarily between the British versus the Italians and Germans, saw forces of around 195,000 and 116,000, respectively, fight near the Egyptian city of El Alamein and end with an Allied victory.

I saw this movie last night and was like, "Whoa!" that is our RP! Except they can remember their past lives.
