Hello! It's been a while for me, since I last roleplayed, but I have this idea in my head that I really want to try out with a small group. The premise is that, at least in the main land of this story, there is a royal bloodline that has ruled for thousands of years. However, the last king to die supposedly left no heirs to the throne - so one of the nobles have been appointed as lord and steward of the throne until the bloodline can be found once more. No one really thought there was anyone else that could take the throne. Until one day, the lord tasks the knight commanders (your characters) to find a particular adventurer that tends to be alone a lot of the time, claiming that they are a bastard child of the king, but still carry his blood.

There is some lore sorted in my head, but be gentle, since this is mostly a spontaneous idea:
• There is magic, often practiced by wizards. Much like you'd expect, it involves chanting an ancient language and drawing symbols in the air to cast a spell.
• The royal bloodline is an exception to this. They are born with the royal rune upon their right hand that allows them to cast spells without drawing nor the language. Even moreso, in the past, the crown would grant similar runes to their knight commanders, making them a force to be reckoned with.
• Not just anyone can be given a rune and in fact it's a very small portion of the population that can. No one knows the reason for this.
• Knight commanders are normally chosen not only for the ability to have a rune, but for their martial expertise and wisdom on the battlefield. They are literally the highest ranked knight and serve as advisors to the crown, putting them above even nobles.

So, please, if anyone is interested - let me know! Generally how I work is, the more people involved/excited, the more effort I'll put into this. I love building stories with people and would not mind at all if you have ideas of your own. I do have a plot forming in my head, of course, but if we learn to compromise I think it'll be beautiful~

Welcome back to you!
I might be interested, but I do have some questions before I can say anything for certain. So if you don't mind, I'll wait for your answers before I can anything for sure.

Questions:
1. What role will the players take on in this roleplay? Are we the Knight Commanders? Jealous Nobles who want to usurp the throne and prevent the adventurer from being found? Rank and file grunts who're tasked WITH finding the adventurer? Royal Bloodline descendants who've been in the dark about their heritage up until now?

2. The tags of this roleplay include "romance" and "18+". But the descriptions/synopsis gives no hint as to who, what, where or why. Is it romance-themed because romancing NPCs/other players is an option, or is it a requirement? Is it 19+ because there'll be themes of a suggestive or raunchy nature, or is it because there'll be turbo-violence and descriptive grimdark so nasty that it'd make a child have nightmares? OR both?

3. As it is a fantasy world with magic, is it one where multiple races exist, or is it a medieval world but with magic where only humans (or some kind of equivalent) exist?

4. What is the ultimate goal of the players? To restore the ancient bloodline of kings to the throne? To romance the heir/ess? To... Uh... Fill all the important positons in the court? To settle down and have babbies of their own?

5. What art style/theme are you going for with the world? Photorealistic real life? Saturday morning cartoon? Western stylized fantasy art a la D&D? Anime/Manga? Some kind of fusion of something? Or just, anything and everything?

That's all I've got for now. Depending on your answers, I may come up with more things to ask. Or I might not. Anyway, I look forward to hearing your reply. :)

Potentially interested, though I share a lot of the same questions Xalt has. In addition:

The fact that the royal line are the ones who have the power of the Runes helps a bit with the idea that the nobility specifically want someone of that same bloodline to be found, since I imagine that power is either very useful or outright required in some manner---as a deterrent against enemies, a means of controlling the knight commanders who were given Lesser Runes, etc---but is there any particular reason the nobles are actually cooperating to find the lost heir, rather than vying for the throne themselves?

Unless the power of the rune somehow makes it so that each king can only have one child or something, or the inheritance is specifically determined BY the Rune's presence and thus other royal children aren't actually considered royalty, there surely would've been other members of the royal family who branched off, right? King I has 2 kids, one becomes King II and the other becomes Duke I, but if King II dies before having a kid then Duke comes back to become King III, and so on. That's how "noble families" become nobility in the first place, typically, so is there a reason that the Dukes, Earls, Counts, etc who have closer ties to the royal line aren't waging a civil war to put themselves in power?

@Zeroth:
The most important question is why the nobles aren’t vying for power in the absence of the royal bloodline. The answer lies in the Royal Rune, which is believed to be a divine blessing from the god of light. Nobles fear divine punishment or public rejection if they take the throne without this blessing. Historically, when the royal bloodline is absent, the steward is chosen from among the closest relatives to maintain order.

Additionally, many nobles see finding the heir as an opportunity to gain favor or rewards. The presence of runes—an otherworldly magic tied to the royal family—reinforces this belief.

As for lineage, the Royal Rune only manifests in one descendant per generation. Typically, this heir has no siblings, though rare exceptions exist in history. In this case, the steward is an uncle of the missing heir, a rare instance of a sibling to a rune bearer. Initially, most believed the last king left no children. The temple of light even declared that the god of light would select a new bloodline. However, as no new rune-bearer appeared, rumors arose that the king might have had a secret child.

@Xaltwind:
As for player roles, you’ll take on the mantle of the knight commanders, tasked by the steward to investigate rumors of someone bearing the Royal Rune. While the ultimate goal is to restore the heir to the throne, not everything is as it seems. Knight commanders serve as generals during wartime, mentors and teachers during peace, and trusted advisors to the crown — or in this case, the steward. Their role is integral to the kingdom’s stability and security.

I’ve chosen to set the roleplay for 18+ participants primarily for comfort and creative freedom. While I don’t necessarily intend for the story to delve into explicit content or overly dark themes, this age limit allows me — and all participants — to explore complex characters, mature situations, and potentially intense scenes without constantly worrying about whether the content might cross a line for younger audiences.

Regarding races, the setting is primarily human, but I’m open to discussing other possibilities if someone has a strong concept in mind. Themes and tone lean towards D&D-style western fantasy. Romance is entirely optional, not a requirement.

If anyone has further questions or needs more details, I’m happy to elaborate! Furthermore, if you have ideas you’d like to bring to the table, please feel free to share!

@Lyla
Thank ye kindly fer yer answerings.

A few more quesitons then, if you wouldn't mind~

More Xalty Questions:

4. What age-range of characters are yaiming for then? If the setting is pre-dominantly human, and the players are the Knight Commanders, I imagine we're not looking at a particularly young cast. Because I can't imagine anyone in a 'Commander' role being someone in their late teens or very early twenties. Unless of courese the title of "Knight Commander" has nothing to do with actual, y'know, comanding of knights/soldiers. Or is it a meritocratic title that can be earned by anyone, regardless of age and/or status?

5. I assume then, as there is magic in the world, that there are also some kind of... Magic beasts or monsters? Or are we dealing with a situation where humans have access to magic, but no supernatural or otherwise magical threats (besides other humans) exist?

6. Are we free to choose whatever we want for face-claims (within reason), or would you prefer players to specifically try to adhere to and choose pictures in line with the setting?

7. Since there's magic, I'd also kinda want to know what the technology level is like. Like, do things like gunpowder not exist because magic makes it obsolete? What kind of stuff does the existence of magic allow, do they have elevators/escalators? Magic cars? Or are we talking more just... Magic is used for self-defense, combat and like... Domestic/artisan purposes only?

8. In what sort of climate and geography does the story take place? Typical Fantasy England a la Arthurian legends/The Elder Scrolls Oblivion/Etc? Or is it something else? Meditarranean? Eastern Europe-y? Asian? Some kind of mix?

Again, thank you for your time and patience. I look forward to more answers.

4) Knight Commander titles are meritocratic—earned through merit and martial skill rather than noble status—but candidates must meet specific criteria. They must possess the rare ability to hold a Lesser Rune, determined by court wizards through magical screening. Command experience is highly valued, and knight commanders are selected from the ranks of knights, who are akin to officers in modern militaries. While younger knight commanders are less common, mentorship by seasoned veterans ensures they can excel in their roles. By the time they are knight commanders, they are among the best warriors in the kingdom, both in skill and leadership.

5) Magical beasts are a reality in the world. Animals infused with magic may develop traits such as tougher hides or the ability to rend through iron, and mythical creatures like dragons are part of the world’s tapestry. Humans infused with magic are known as sorcerers, though societal pressure often pushes them toward magical academies to become official wizards. Legends tell of terrifying creatures born from the goddess of the dark, but these remain unproven myths—at least for now. Magical beasts range from rare and awe-inspiring to occasional threats, depending on the region.

6) For face-claims, I’d prefer avoiding anime-style images to keep the setting consistent, but beyond that, you’re free to choose any style that suits your character, such as realistic art or Western fantasy illustrations.

7) Technology in this kingdom is deeply intertwined with magic. Wizards can enchant objects, creating items like self-lighting candles for those who can afford them. Other kingdoms might have advanced magitech (similar to steampunk but powered by magic), though this remains rare. The extent of magical technology depends on the availability of resources and skilled enchanters, so luxury items remain inaccessible to most common folk.

8) The kingdom has a classic fantasy landscape reminiscent of Oblivion: green fields, flowing rivers, serene lakes, and ruins scattered from ages past. Fertile land supports thriving agriculture, while rivers serve as natural trade routes. The geography fosters a sense of timelessness, with remnants of lost civilizations adding mystery to the environment.

Thank you for further answerage.

Unfortunately, I'll have to pass on this particular RP, but hopefully my questions and your answers will lend themselves to helping other prospective applicants make up their minds.

I wish you the best and hope you'll find some people to have fun with in this world you've envisioned and created. :)

This seems like fun! Anything drawing even a little inspiration from Oblivion is probably on the right track, if you ask me.

Okay, so to recap...

@Zeroth might be interested, @shylarah also might join, but it seems like @BurningCold & @Half Pint are definitely interested. I could make the OOC (which might take a little bit, due to some of the world being more fleshed out now) and see who shows up - the idea in my head was that even if it's only 3 of us, I can still definitely make it work. Please let me know what you think~

I'll throw my hat in the ring. Still not sure if I'm gonna go this route, but are we allowed more than one character, provided only one of them, at most, is a knight commander? Oh, and are written descriptions allowed in lieu of a picture? I'm no good at finding non-anime pictures for characters lol
