Our story begins in medieval Europe; a time of fantasy and mysticism, a land where people lived under the rule of kingdoms, a place where knights and sorcerers lived. But, this is not the medieval fantasy land that you know. Or at least, it isn’t now. For it was, once, but all it took was one spell – one experimental time spell gone horribly wrong – to change all that. No one knew who cast it, but whoever it was transformed earth – filling it with massive and ferocious reptilian creatures. The monsters covered the land, sea and air. Some were taller than castles, some came with a taste for human flesh. The people of this time period had many names for these creatures, the most common being “Draconides”. But you and I, we’d call them “dinosaurs”.
The planet changed after their arrival. Humans couldn’t easily live with the so-called Draconides. The creatures meant the destruction of many human settlements – the deaths of hundreds if not thousands. Even the herbivores could prove themselves dangerous if disturbed, especially given that their average size went far beyond that of any other common animal. Humanity survived, but things were never the same. Kingdoms fell and new ones rose from the ashes; civilization reorganized itself. Some of the Draconides could be captured, tamed and bred in captivity – but they were still so much harder to maintain than ordinary animals, so expensive, and thus in most societies, they were primarily owned by the noble and the rich.
(GM’s Note: While this is an RP that heavily focuses on dinosaurs, you do not have to be a dinosaur expert in order to join. If you know what a Stegosaurus is, for example, then I probably won’t ask you to do any further research.)
(GM's Note 2: I apologize that I can't get the hiders to work on my OOC's despite working everywhere else.)
Classification and Naming
Especially given the setback in humanity’s growth, information on Draconides is rare and hard to obtain. Scientific documentation of them is not only unreliable but specific facts on the creatures and even their names may vary from place to place. And even if names were consistent, it is still rare to find classification for Draconides beyond general groupings. After all, there are just so many species. Our kingdom, at least, generally refers to different types of Draconides by these names;
Titans: The largest of the carnivores. Ferocious beasts named for their size and predatory nature. (Tyrannosaurs and the like.)
Raptors: Similar to Titans, only smaller and nimbler. But while they are smaller, they are more likely to hunt in packs, and perhaps even more likely to make a meal out of a human. (Velociraptor, Deinonychus, etc.)
Towers: Massive herbivores. Their pillar-like legs and long necks make them some of the biggest Draconides overall. (Brontosaurus, Brachiosaurus, etc.)
Grazers: The smaller breeds of herbivores, and perhaps the largest group of Draconides. They often travel in herds, and sometimes come naturally equipped with various weapons to defend themselves from Raptors and Titans. (Triceratops, Stegosaurus, Maiasaura, etc.)
Wyverns: Flying Draconides. Their wingspans and body shape result in shadows almost identical to that of dragons as they fly across the sky. (Pterodactyl, etc.)
The Kingdom:
This RP primarily takes place in the kingdom of Sorenaye. Sorenaye is a kingdom that, like many in this world, is dominated by the rich – as dysfunctional relationships between the social classes make up day-to-day life. The Kingdom of Sorenaye is made up of two main parts – the Inside and Outside. The Inside of the kingdom, made up of those with the “birthright” to reside there, lives safely inside massive stone walls, capable of keeping out most wild Draconides – even the mightiest of Titans. However, that’s not to say there aren’t any Draconides within the walls, as the nobles actually own a considerable amount of tamed ones, which many of them tend to enjoy putting up for stud and selling off the young. When kept under control, Draconides can be quite the money-makers and a great source of entertainment for those on the Inside.
The Outside, however, is a different story. Those belonging to lower social class live in a much more open area, where the threat of losing people and livestock to wild Raptors is a constant one. While those on the Outside build crude fences and fend off creatures with weapons the best they can, they still live in a far more dangerous environment than those on the Inside. Additionally, the tamed Draconides in this part of Sorenai are few and far apart, and those that do exist are generally used as work animals.
Making life worse for the Outsiders are the Sword-and-Shield Knights. Named for the Grazers they ride, whose faces serve as both a shield and a trio of blades, these glorified tax collectors come from the Inside to collect the money and food that the Outsiders are obligated to provide. And while they were originally designed to double as protection for the outsiders, these tyrannical riders often abuse their privilege, taking more money than they’re asked to in order to pocket some profit, all with little to no regard for the Outsiders’ dangerous situation.
Rules:
Try to include something in each post that gives other characters something to react to. Don’t write a post that consists only of your character’s reactions to everything else. Saying or doing SOMETHING is a must. I value functionality of posts over their length or wordiness.
There is no official turn order. That said, don’t wait for more people than you need to in order to post. Only wait for people whose characters you were interacting with, and not people that have nothing to do with you.
Multiple characters are allowed. If you play multiple characters, DO NOT wait until you can post for all your characters in order to post for any. In other words, if you play character A and character B, interacting with two other characters in separate scenes, post for character A as soon as possible, even if you still can’t post for character B. DO NOT ever intentionally put off posting in order to post for both characters at once, otherwise you’re holding up other people for no good reason.
Please TELL ME IF YOU ARE LOSING INTEREST. Contact me right away if you start to think about dropping the RP. Don’t be shy – I’ll understand. I’d much rather you contact me as soon as you think you might leave so that your characters can be neatly written off, rather than shyly putting off posting and causing problems for everyone. The sooner you contact me about a drop-out, the better.
Alternatively, if you feel lost in the RP but still have some level of interest, STILL CONTACT ME! I can help put you back where the action is and get you back into the groove of the RP.
Also, contact me with any doubts or questions you have. I really don’t mind questions.
Bear in mind that there are exceptions to any rule, so if for any reason I tell one of you specifically to override a rule, please understand that there’s a reason for it, and listen to what I say.
Additionally, please understand that all these rules are for the good of the RP in order to improve not only your experience here, but everyone else’s as well. Thank you!
