I was thinking of setting up a Walking Dead RP based in Miami rather than Atlanta like the comics and TV show.

The players will have to survive the undead and other survivors.

The players will be a group with little chemistry and a small amount of resources, the group will have to hunt and scavenge food.

A small basecamp will be available for storage and rest.

Its just an idea at the moment, let me know if you're interested!

I'm currently part of a Walking Dead RP that involves Los Angeles. But I don't mind participating in this one as well. Especially since I love Miami, so yeah, i'm interested.

Interested.

Also, will we have to deal with hurricanes, survivor cartel members, surviving drug lords, street gang protectors, and wayward cruise liners, among other things?

So this is more about maintaining a viable shelter than wandering all over the countryside like most zombie RPs?

Does this still exist? I see that the GM hasn't showed up in a week. Actually that's the only post he ever made.

I'm interested....

and if he isn't coming back we can make a new one.... right?

If he does come back, he'll most likely understand and it'll give him the ease of making a RP.

so how does that sound?

If we do our own startup, do we:

Focus on finding a safe-haven and fortifying it
Start off with a safe haven, focus on raiding and gathering gear
Become a mobile operation, scavenging for supplies, and avoiding the creeping doom
Mobile op, but not just scavenging, actively working to combat the undead
Some combination in between

Any is fine with me, and they all have their own merits, and of course, their own branches of options. What do you guys/girls think?

I say we start off with a safe haven, like a hotel or a hospital, where alot of people have taken shelter from the undead. One person runs the place, gives the orders and tries to maintain the situation calm. A few able people protect the place with guns and other types of weapons, but mostly guns, since we are in Florida and gun laws are much more light here compared to states like California, Illinois or New York. And of course every now and then we go out and scavenge for gear and supplies and also raid other places if we see it fit, afterall it's all about survival of the fittest now. And if the situation calls for it we also combat the undead, not just those that threaten our safe haven but others as well.

Oh and one more thing. Inside the safe haven everybody knows it's place and has a job to do.

Anyway, thats what I think.

I am interested in this... What if we start allready as a group (and have bonded), but we find an abandomed place like a motel and create our own safe haven?

That's what Sturm was suggesting.

Hospital is not an option, for now. They were ground zero for the zombie plague. Rick Grimes was insanely lucky that he made it out. If you're thinking of medical supplies, go raid a free/emergency clinic, or even a veterinarian's office.... or find your friendly neighborhood pill dealer.

Hotel might be, especially if it's during the off season when the outbreak happened, but they might have been comandeered by FEMA and other emergency management services for field hospitals. Schools, stadiums, civic centers, even big parking lots are likely to be turned into field hospitals, first as they try to quarenteen, and then when that fails, simply deal with the sheer number of sick and/or infected.

I would think an office building, warehouse, large boat or ship, train yard, dealership, factory or plant, abandoned hotel, abandoned house/condo... other places where not a lot of people go, and/or has plenty of controllable space, and access to supply areas and travel routes would be best. Also, when the bottom fell out of certain markets, a number of construction projects were abandoned, which an enterprising group could take advantage of. And this is if this group were to stay within the city proper. If they were out in the bush and the glades, or just away from the city, they could make forays into it and probably loose any pursuit.

Upscale condo/ apartments might be fun, especially in a high-rise.

Possibly. Are we talking completed and lived in, or are we talking abandoned building project...

I would think that anywhere people cluster tightly would be a mistake. High-rise apartments have limited egress points, and as the horde/wave/creeping doom took over the ground floors and surged upward, filling the building like a flood or tsunami, it would just leave people trapped. I think that due to zombies not working elevators, the stairs might not provide the greatest point of egress from the building. As a result, while a good number would sort of drain and trickle out, i think there would be a lot of leftovers.

If the building has armed security, decent security protocol to stop an insurge of 'rioters', and they had time to make good on their action plan though... a high-rise could become an island in the sea of the dead. At least most high rise buildings and hotels in Florida are built pretty sturdy to handle rain, storm surge (if on the coast), flooding and hurricanes. This might include backup power, shelter-in-place supplies and so on. An upscale highrise could have a lot of amenities, including things like small but efficient gyms, pool, and so on.

It's an interesting idea for sure.
