Rosina studied her first opponent in the Pewter City Gym. It was a boy who called himself a Camper. She was unimpressed but allowed him to brag about his skills to her. She knew in the end it came down to the pokemon, and Rosina had full faith in them.
"Alright, prepare to be smashed to bits lady. Geodude, go!" the trainer said, sending out his pokemon. Rosina recognized this pokemon from her time as a Ranger, though since she had the time, she pulled out her pokedex and made quick work of registering it. Knowing which pokemon to use was easy, either could take Geodude on, but in an attempt to further bond with Cottonee, she chose him.
"Cottonee, lets shut this little kid up. Ladies first so Cottonee, use grass whistle!"
The camper told Geodude to cover his ears and the pokemon did, putting its rocky hands on either side of his head.
"Now, quick Cottonee use energy ball!" she told her pokemon.
With a determined "Cott tonneee!" he formed a small green ball and launched it at the opposing Geodude. It hit dead on the mark and Rosina was sure it was going to faint, but the Geodude weakly shook itself off.
"What!? But how? Your pokemon should have fainted!" she said to the camper. He snickered. "Ha! Thats my trusty Geodude's ability sturdy! No matter how strong your pokemon's move, you cant take him down with one hit! Now Geodude, use tackle with everything you have left!"
"Geo!" it said before launching its body towards Cottonee. "No, Cottonee dodge it!" Rosina yelled, but her little cotton puff was too slow, and Geodude smashed into it, sending him flying across the battlefield. Rosina had to resist the urge to run to her pokemon so she just yelled for him to get up. It was a moment later that he did, an angry look on his face.
"Great job Cottonee! Use energy ball one last time!" she told him. He charged his attack and hurled it at the other Geodude who was too weak to move out of the way. After the attack landed, the Geodude fell and the frustrated camper returned him to a pokeball.
"Wow...guess you beat me." he said sadly. Rosina had returned Cottonee to his ball after giving him a potion, and was surprised when the camper gave her some money.
"What's this for?" she asked.
"Prize money. When you win, the loser has to give you prize money." He'd given her 200 pokedollars and she took it, putting it in her bag.
"Wow. Thanks. That was a great battle by the way!" she smiled with all her teeth then and the boy turned red as she went on to the other trainer blocking her way to Brock. This one was also a camper. He had said something about Rosina being light-years away from Brock, but really she didnt care what he said.
"Geodude, lets make this girl go crying home to her Mommy!"
Pushing her red hair out of her eyes, she got Azurill's pokeball and sent him out. "Azul, lets show him how a real trainer battles." she said with confidence. This time she let the other boy go first.
"Geodude use rock throw!" he called out. Rosina told her Azurill to dodge them and he did easily, bouncing out of the way with his tail. "Azul, now use ice beam!" she told him.
"Rill!" he cried before a stream of ice shot from his mouth and hit the Geodude.
"Hm, good try, but ice types are not effective against rock types-huh!? Geodude, what happened!?"
In an amazing stroke of luck, Azul's ice beam had caused the campers pokemon to be completely sealed in ice. "Great job Azul, now finish him with your strongest bubblebeam!" she called to her pokemon.
"Azurill!" Bouncing up high using its tail, it shot out a flurry of bubbles that crashed into the frozen Geodude. As the dirt cleared, it revealed a fainted Geodude once again.
"No, Geodude! How can this be?" the camper wailed miserably. "Woo! Great job Azul. Return." she said putting him back in his ball. After collecting another 200 pokedollars, she walked up to the head of Pewter City's Gym. Brock.
Rosina was confident and nervous all in one. Not knowing how it would go, or if her pokemon were good enough, Rosina tried to mask her fear and excitement.
"Well, i see another challenger has come. Welcome. I am Brock, and my rock hard pokemon are just as strong as my will to win. Get ready, because i'm going all out." he said to her.
Nodding and grabbing Cottonee's pokeball, she made a fist. "I'm ready to take you on. I may look like a noob but my faith in my pokemon will shatter your will to win. Lets do this!"
"Go, Geodude!"
"Cottonee, i choose you!"
