I don't have the ideas completely developed yet, but I want to make a mecha RP set in a post-apocalyptic setting. The backstory would consist of something similar to a nuclear fallout, leading to a collapse of government institutions. Mech operators would scavenge the lands, looking for settlements and supplies in order to maintain their machines and survive. While the old governments would have collapsed, new groups will have arisen to claim power, and characters would play a part in determining who will lead humanity after the apocalypse. Any takers?

Sound like an interesting twist to the post-apocalyptic setting. I keep an eye on this.

Total honesty here: this idea pushed me over the boundary of "Do I want to come back?" after an absence of several years. So yes. Do it. I see several ways this can be awesome.

Interested. I'd like to posit that this could be a super robot style roleplay with giant monsters n shit but I'm fine with another serious real robot mecha post apocalypse

Calling this as my mecha

Just a quick question: Super robot or real robot? My idea was kinda leaning towards a real-robot treatment of the mechs, with a few super-robot story telling elements, but nothing too ridiculous.

This depends on what you want to stress, what tone you're looking for in regard to the mechas, and how we interact with them and with each other. Go with your gut, because as a mecha fan, no scenario is wrong. Either we get awesome human characters with some cool robots, or we get extreme robotic fury and some solid characters.

I say real robot, but like the mecha in Lost Planet, Full metal Panic, Titanfall, and Code Geuss.

I dunno, up to you, thing is basically every giant robot roleplay ends up being real robot style instead of super robot style for some reason

Yeah, I really want it to be mostly real robot, but I'm not completely hostile to certain super robot elements. It'l be a case by case thing, but if you want, say, a "prototype reactor core" that gives your mech higher performance, then bring it up and we'll see. Regenerating robots and outright impossible feats are out of the question though.

The OOC isn't ready yet, but I'm going to let you know a bit about what's coming up.

Mech Parts
  • Integrated Weapon Systems - Weapons that are built into your robot and generally cannot be taken off one robot and used on another, save for special circumstances. An example would be machine guns mounted in the wrists.

  • Auxiliary Weapon Systems - Basically any piece of equipment that can be taken off of one robot and used on another. These weapon generally are easily replaced but may or may not be more difficult to use with your robot. For example, a giant machine gun can be used on pretty much any mech with hands, but will have to be reloaded manually, while an integrated machine gun can have an auto-loading system.

  • Propulsions Systems - Parts like jet boosters and wheels that help your robot get around.

  • Power and Generator Systems - Mechas in this time period obviously don't run on gas, but even among power systems that use the same generator, differences in distribution systems may prioritize weapon output or energy efficiency.

  • Part Origins

  • Signature Systems - If your robot was a prototype utilizing new experimental systems, then these systems will be called Signature Systems. Does your mecha run on a prototype reactor core that was never mass produced? Does it utilize an experimental energy weapon? If that's the case, then it has a Signature System. Note that all signature systems have to be approved by myself.

  • Mass Produced Systems - Systems that were utlized across many mechas prior to the Union's collapse. You can use these without approval, and you can also submit your own ideas for MP Systems for my approval.

  • Basically, this is to streamline the creation of generic MP mechas, as well as make replacement parts more easily described and consistent with each other. I'll also create a few MP suits and be accepting proposals for MP suits if you want to make one. MP suits and parts will mostly be based on the two factions that existed prior to the RP.

Suits that were made by the Union (Name pending) will generally have detachable parts that emphasized versatility through optional equipment. Suits made by the Allied Atlantic Powers will generally have their weapons integrated into the mecha chassis and be more streamlined in appearance.

Of course, you will still be allowed to make your own mecha. They don't even have to follow the guidelines for each faction, or even need to have their origin in one of these factions. Ancient alien technology? Sure, why not? JUST NO REGENERATING MECHA.

Man, I really like this idea.

It seems really Gearhead-esque(an old RPG based around this concept, more or less), and I've been trying to get something like that ever since I've played it.

    So yeah, I'm in.

Yeah that sounds pretty cool. At the end of the day super and real are just stylistic choices anyway, the thing is that most roleplays seem to go entirely for a more real robot style for some reason. Also the whole bit about impossible feats, that kind of covers mecha in their entirety.

I just have a...suspension of disbelief wall. I can dig real robot, where ignoring for the fact that they exist, is about it. When things start getting Gundam with chrome bumpers, gaudy paintjobs, 80+ feet tall, able to dominate everything from land, sea, air, and space, to the point where they can wield weapons capable of ripping apart a capital-class ship....Yeah. That breaks my wall. I take my toys and go home :P

Always preferred a bit more grit, a bit more realism, and at least a nod to physics, rather than blatantly laughing at it.

    I'm picky.

Considering you say you dislike Gundam and that franchise basically defined what's come to be known as the real robot "genre" and is what most people think of when you say "real robot" that discards about, what, at least 95% of the entirety of mecha to your tastes? You want a roleplay about stupid impossible robots that exist entirely because they're cool, but that is also gritty and realistic. Okay.

If you're going to argue about what kind of robot genre is better, I ask that you take it elsewhere. I plan on using both somewhat reasonably designed mechs as well as the typical anime-type unrealistic designs, though I don't plan on treating them too differently in the RP. I have stolen acquired designs from shows like Gundam and Code Geass, so if that's a turn off, I suggest you either learn to deal with it or take your interest somewhere else. Stolen Acquired designs include the following.

    Burai (Code Geass)
    Gekka (Code Geass)
    atm-09-st Scopedog (Votoms)
    MSER-04 Anf (Gundam 00)
    MSJ-06II Tieren (Gundam 00)
    Pretty much anything from Hawken

Though pretty much all of these will be renamed for the RP.

And I will be accepting similar looking mecha, as well as designs as colorful as Zambot or as ridiculous as Abulhool. But I pray to god that you won't choose these two. Really. Please.

Grittiness is fine, but above all else, I want this to be an entertaining and dynamic world full of surprises.

Not sure where that came from, just stating what I did not like.

EyeofThanatos, not trying to argue anything. My interests are different, and I never intended to try and push your game more to my liking.

    It is your game.

I'll just bounce out here and now, knowing the direction and style you prefer, and give you my sincere wishes that your game runs smoothly, and to completion/satisfaction for you, and everyone else involved.

Thanatos, do you think Titans are close enough to be standards, or maybe unique mech variants?
