A grade school girl with a huge crush; An elderly man approaching his last days; A jaded construction worker wanting to switch careers; A gangster who just wants to financially care for his siblings; A hikikomori who is also a hopeless hoarder. What do all of these people have in common?
They are all able to access a peculiar world called Vivi-Dream.
Vivi-Dream is an extremely malleable place that only several people in the world can reach. It changes according to what each dreamer brings, although the general layout is the main city dubbed Remniche branching out into different routes that are each bizarre and illogical by realistic standards. One route is a massive labyrinth that no one could hope to navigate in one night’s sleep. Another leads to an upside-down palace. Another has a house that gets smaller like a matryoshka doll the more someone investigates it. Another could be a broken Rube Goldberg machine that needs fixing. The one thing they have is common is that they harbor negative emotions and need to be purified.
The characters that these dreamers become in Vivi-Dream are equally as bizarre. However, when that persona is chosen, they tend to remain that way for life. Dubbed as Oneiros, these characters represent the dreamer’s interests, thoughts, and life situations. The Oneiros are then able to explore Remniche and the world of Vivi-Dream for the duration of their dream. They are tasked in finding 'artifacts' inside a 'location' that appears as a result of each dreamer's troubled personalities and lives. Artifacts are objects that represents an important fact about the dreamer and may help the Oneiros become better people in real life, and might provide a small clue to what Vivi-Dream is. Finding this artifact and helping the troubled Oneiros then cleanses the area and brings some hope and positivity back into that person's life. The favor is then returned for others, and the community slowly becomes stronger in the face of these encroaching negative emotions. The trip could be a harmless scavenger hunt if the location's negative every isn't as potent, or could lead to a battle against monsters if the negative energy is running wild.
However, if these journeys are not made, the location could infest the entirety of Vivi-Dream and affect all of the dreamers involved, leading to warped personalities and mood disorders in real life. One person's anxiety could affect someone else who never had anxiety before in their life. One's schizophrenia could suddenly occur in another, mentally healthy person. Dementia might become common in everyone involved.
As if that isn't bad enough, these warped locations are getting worse and worse in nature, and monsters are infesting the world at a faster rate than ever before. Why? There has been an influx of dreamers coming to Vivi-Dream, but failing to manifest as anything except a negative location. Without prompt action, it won't be long before Vivi-Dream is affected as a whole, permanently damaging the dreamers' minds in real life. The Oneiros need to cleanse these locations and help their fellow troubled dreamers before everyone is afflicted with mental disorders resulting from experiencing others' raw emotions.
Vivi-Dream is initially accessible only to a select number of people, but their population is slowly and dangerously increasing as time goes on. When these people wake up, they can remember their experience in great detail. Likewise, if Oneiros meet each other in real life, they experience déjà vu and can then discuss what happened. There is even a small group of people who convene to talk about Vivi-Dream, usually meeting at the local Reverie Bakery and Café at scheduled hours. Their goal is to find out what Vivi-Dream is and why only they can reach it, as well as why these locations are appearing far more rapidly than usual. Several theories have been brought to the table, but nothing has been proven yet.
During these journeys, Oneiros can feel pain and bleed like in real life, but if a monster 'kills' them during a battle, the Oneiros is 'kicked out' of Vivi-Dream and the dreamer wakes up from a horrible nightmare. They could go back to sleep and re-enter Vivi-Dream, but they would have to restart at Remniche, leaving the rest of the party to handle the monsters. If this happens to all of the party members, the mission is a failure and another group would need to handle the monsters before the location can corrupt Vivi-Dream entirely. Those people who are comatose in real life would immediately restart at Remniche rather than awakening, but they need some time to heal their injuries and get over the shock of 'dying', thus they wouldn't be able to immediately re-adventure.
The ultimate conclusion is to solve the mystery behind Vivi-Dream’s existence and find out why there are so many problems. Otherwise, the real world will be affected for the worse. Why does Vivi-Dream exist? How is it connecting everyone's minds? Is Vivi-Dream benevolent or malicious in nature? Is there a purpose behind bringing these people into such a fantastic world? Can they figure out the anomalies surrounding this imaginary world before it affects the real world? That’s for the resident Oneiros to find out through their adventures.
**
This RP largely takes place in Vivi-Dream, with only short segments in the real world for the dreamers to convene in the Reverie Bakery and Café if so needed, or if they are suddenly awakened from a nightmare (i.e. 'killed' by a monster). The format of this RP is a Dungeons & Dragons world combined with elements from series like Yume Nikki, Persona 4, The Matrix, Okami, and the Witches' Labyrinths from Puella Magi Madoka Magica. The dungeons would represent one or more characters' psyches, from which an artifact is hidden that needs to be found to cleanse the area and heal that person's soul.
CHARACTER SHEET
Real World Name: (the real-life persona)
Age: (how old they are)
Real World Bio: (Their real life situation. Keep it short – the RL characters won’t be RP’ed as much)
Oneiros Name: (the dream persona’s identity)
Appearance: (short description and/or image of your Oneiros character)
Oneiros Bio: (this one can be a bit longer than the RL bio, but I don’t want to comb through an entire essay, thank you)
Although this is an adventure fantasy, you’re able to make whatever archetype you desire as long as your character can interact with other characters that may be totally different from yours.
And a few rules:
1. No god moding. This is a dream world, not the realm of gods.
2. As I want to compile this into a readable story, I ask for the best grammar and spelling you can bring, as well as writing in past tense consistently.
3. No bashing, swearing in OOC or trolling. Some cursing is acceptable in story, as long as it’s tasteful and for a good reason.
4. Please, please, please don't be uber-emotional and dark! I know our characters may have had some poor life situations, but I don't want this to become a totally dark story. Our characters are to work together to help each other while protecting Vivi-Dream from too much negative energy. Eventually the crisis will escalate out of control, but by then I hope that our characters have bonded enough to confront the truth as a cohesive community and team.
5. Have fun and exercise some creativity. However if you want to make some plans and discuss ideas, you're able to do so here. I'm fully aware of the much too freeform state this RP is beginning in, so some preplanning may be needed to give us some direction.
6. Character interaction is highly encouraged. I would like to see our characters helping each other out by discovering their real world problem and then solving it in the dream world. There can be rivalries or conflicts between characters, but the story will be culminating into a big showdown that requires everyone's help.
