The Boss should have been annoyed, but instead he was fascinated. Since he'd left the majority of experimentation to the scientists he had not seen shifting in action in a long time. He gasped, and plucked Ambrose off his shoulder. "Look at you!" He took one wing and spread it out. "Look at this... Ah, I haven't seen a bat shifter in many, many years. So small. That's something that has always amazed me about shifting, you know. Humans are such an average size and yet shifters capture all that they are into a body smaller than themselves. Or else they fill out their personality into a large size." He was totally enraptured by Ambrose's appearance.

Brianna leaves the room and heads to the elevator, pulling out her electronic pass and scanning it. "I don't suppose you know anything about what he wants?" she asks Mona whilst the two of them wait for the elevator to arrive.

Sacha nods. "Well find him, don't worry." She makes her way through the trees, heading for the border, towards where Destin and the others are, of course.

[oh shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit]

Dione scurried through the woods after Sacha, her shoes scratching on leaves and bark. She didn't mind. Her thoughts were far more occupied with Ambrose: she sifted through fond memories of his warm smile, his kind words, the heat of his body as the earth grew cold and a harsh winter approached. She smiled despite herself, but then she shook with the realization that, if something happened, she would no longer have any of these things. It was a harrowing thought. He was one of the few good things to happen to her. She wasn't sure what she would do if he was gone. She steeled herself with a comforting thought - she would probably find him near the border, safe as always. It was most likely a simple misunderstanding.

Ambrose blinks, bit annoyed at being manhandled, but decided to just let the old man poke at him. "I know right? I love being a bat, not many can shift this small, the largest I've seen in a mammoth! How do you deal with large animals like that?"

Mona shrugs. "Something about that kid we brought in. I guess he's running tests and needs help..."

Sacha frowns, seeing figures up ahead. "I only see four people there.." she facepalms. "Duh, that'd how many were missing!"

"The largest animal we had here was a tiger," The Boss explains, feeling the leathery wings beneath his worn fingers. "What the scientists do to get subjects to shift... It keeps them pretty much down whilst they're chained up." He feels warm memories of his travelling days returning to him. "A mammoth, hmm? I was never so lucky to see one. Although I knew a fellow in South America who could shift into a Dodo. Practically useless, but he enjoyed it all the same." His eyes glinted for a moment. "Could I ever meet this mammoth friend of yours?" It was a poorly disguised ploy for Ambrose to give up one of his shifting friends.

Dione laughs, lulled into believing everything is alright. She starts making a joke, but her eyes move to the group through the trees and she stops. She holds up a hand to stop Sacha. "I don't recognize some of those people, Sacha. And Amby isn't there." She narrowed her eyes and scowled, though it looked like a pout on her soft face.

"He's a Brom, so not really my friend." Ambrose shrugs. "A dodo, huh. Was he dumb as a dodo??"

"Amby?" Sacha raises an eyebrow. "No, those are Broms...Aya doesn't seem hurt so they might be alright." She keeps walking.

The Boss answered Ambrose's question first to appear kinder. "You'd think so, hm? But no, he was an intelligent man. Simply preferred the wilderness to civilisation. That is what many say." He was intrigued by the term Ambrose had used. "Brom, did you say? What exactly is that?"

"Gotcha, that makes sense. Civilization can be overwhelming." Ambrose blinks, wondering how much to tell. "They're the enemy." He says simply.

"The enemy...?" The Boss stared at Ambrose and nodded slowly. He takes the syringe of blood and puts a dot of it onto a glass slide as he talks. "Now, what makes them the enemy? I've come across territorial disputes before between shifters... Along with differing ideological pursuits or grudges from centuries back. I'd say that they're more prone to fighting than humans, but humans are violent all the same. I think shifters are just more upfront about it."

Brianna folded her arms. "For goodness sake, that subject is a write-off. If The Boss wants to use him for his own experiments so be it, but it shouldn't have anything to do with me. Doesn't he want the results before he keels over?" The elevator slid open with a 'ding' and Brianna stepped inside. "Are you coming or were you sticking around for a pleasant conversation with me?" Her tone was cold and sarcastic, but mostly she was bothered at the interruption to her work.

"Probably our DNA I guess." Ambrose shrugs, he watches curiously. "They're just different, more evil. And I know my group is kinder, and it's just....I dunno we've always fought you know?"

Mona shakes her head. "Forget it, I'll get the next one.' She steps back and waits for the elevator to close before running back to the room with Misha. She begins unstrapping the gril.

The Boss presses the blood down with tape and slips into under the observation lens of the microscope. "Fascinating, that is. I wonder what these Broms would say about your group?" He reaches to a cupboard above the two of them and removes a display file filled with records of past subjects. He puts it down next to Ambrose's body. "There's a tendency for shifters to gather in groups, you know. It's seen across the world. I wonder if that really is DNA?" He gives a rare and true smile. "I suppose even my Family is somewhat like one such group."

Brianna sighs in relief that Mona had taken the hint. She couldn't stand another minute around somewhat with so much of a lower intellect than hers. Now, if only this meeting with The Boss would not take so long so that she could return to her work. That would make the situation perfect.

Ambrose nods. "Yeah, exactly." He looks at the records curously for a moment. "Maybe if you cared enough to talk to other shifters like they were people, you'd know that Misha is a Brom."
