@Witch Cat Thanks for the effort, but I really don't like it. First, i feel like making this legend about Lilith is misogynistic. You could probably equally develop a myth starting from Kain. Secondly, how can you have "alive" vampires? You can't make life if you are dead... then you also get the problems with half breeds and quarter breeds, and eventually vampires get bred into non-existence. Lastly, it's just not right to be both immortal AND be able to have a family. That causes population problems.... and I don't like having two specific kinds of vampires either. :P

But that's just my opinion.

Guess I'll explain a few points. The Lilith myth is an actual myth, so no changing that. And vampires are technically alive. They are alive but appear dead. However, vampire minions are dead, and appear dead. The only thing keeping them alive is magic. Magic is their new blood, and thus preventing stuff like rigirmotis, and the loss of hunger, etc. And not every member of a vampire lineage will be a vampire. Think of vampirism as colour-blindness. People can carry the gene for colour blindness, but aren't affected by it. And if a vampire becomes a problem, they can be killed. They are immortal, not invincible. Vampires can be raised from the dead though, but they will just be a vampire minion and not their original self.

@Wraithblade6I think it'd be like a cancer as a disease. (I'll discuss with my biology professor about other possible similarities). Maybe over a few weeks it gets really spread through the body and then it basically kills the person as they have crucial functions stopped and rebuilt. Then the disease gets them back up because diseases exist to spread and killing things is actually not their plan.

@Witch Cat Ok. So a thrall would be a vampire that was basically killed? So, if a vampire dies, they could be raised again as a slave to their master/maker?

ok that's decent. So in a way, they do kinda die, but it's not like they forget who they were.

I think we can combine these. Say, a bite from a vampire injects these 'vampire' cells in your body. These cells are extremely volatile, and act over the course of 3 days, giving the host superhuman abilities, but with an extreme energy cost, and due to the cells' unique chemical makeup, can only be satiated with blood.

@Witch Cat eh... changing the dna of every single cell in a body is a bit complicated. Every cell has to change EXACTLY the same, at the same sequence, same code, etc. I think we should go with disease. If you want to explain thralls, make it so that the body has to physically die, or maybe consume a certain amount of vampire blood, or get infected a certain number of times in order to go full vampire.

Yes, but like, vampirism is tainted with magic. It all did stem from a powerful demon. Magic can do alot of things, transfiguration is one of them. So, I don't think it's outlandish to say vampire blood can transform every cell. And who knows? There can be hiccups that lead to mutations! Room for more tweaking!

@Wraithblade6 yeah and it explains why people thought they were undead back when the body is in a near total shut down. Cause really the only undead I see reasonable are specifically controlled puppets where the necromancer is channeling mana to give the body energy to move and their thoughts control the actions.

Yes, you're getting there! And I guess you use thrall instead of vampire minion. Sounds fancier. Thrrrrrrraaaaallllll. Anyway, yah, you're getting there! Any living thing killed by a vampire in fact can be turned into a thrall. But only if the target is killed by the vampire's fangs.

@AdobeFlash But blood doesn't provide like anything. It's some iron and water and other generic bits for life. I think having limited blood and almost no ability to make blood makes blood specifically usefu.

I would think that, if we are following the disease logic, the reason vampires are considered undead is due to low body temperature

@jasonwolf yeah, that could work. a comrpomise between the two ideas should work. like the cells cant make blood, so you need to steal it from others.

@AdobeFlash I feel like it could even be a debate over if they are undead or not because there are various traits that fall on both sides.

So, this is turning into one huge mess. Ugh so many posts! Anyway, @Wraithblade6's idea of vampirism is a more simple and traditional, keeping the whole theme of magic. @jasonwolf describes it as a disease, a cancer, more focus on the fact magic is science. And I see it as a mix of both. A little 9th grade biology, and a demon thrown in for good measure. All good ideas, so which do we pick?

I think the disease version allows for the most flexibility with character backstories, and with equal opportunity for different traits. the more traditional method leaves less flexibility in the backstory

Ok. So, things I want to get an official answer on are:

1. How does one become a vampire?
2. How does a vampire make a minion?
3. How do you destroy a vampire or a minion?
4. Why are there different types of vampires or different powers?
5. Why do vampires drink blood?
6. Can a vampire make a living baby or a half-breed (please god no lol)?
7. What started Vampirism, a demon pact gone wrong?

I think here is a good point to put in a little magic. We could say the blood of a supernatural being is infused with magic, giving it special traits. And that's why many potions call for blood of this, or that. Magic flows in and through everything. Wouldn't hurt to use magic to explain away a few problems.

1. Bitten, and given the gene or trait
2. I would have to ask jasonwolf on that one
3. Sunlight, religion, etc. but with minions I would think guns would work
4.Due to mutations
5. Because they cannot produce it by themselves
6.no
