"We all knew this moment was coming. We knew that everything we did, would never be enough. Federation and Conglomerate joined together giving the world a sense of unity it has never before seen, it was not enough. We have lost contact with Admiral Constantine, who took the combined Martian and Earth fleets to confront the Devastators. Genesis protocol is now in effect, we are leaving Earth. We are trusted with the burden to continue humanities legacy out in the stars. There can be no turning back."
This roleplay is set in a (hopefully) fictitious future, where in the year 2196 experiments with a new type of faster than light (FTL) technology resulted in an attack by an alien race which tore through our defenses in the Three Day War only stopped by a joint defense in the orbit of Mars lead by Admiral Roland Constantine. After the war humanity banded together like never before, all factions uniting under the banner of the United Earth Council. Ten grueling years past, leaps in technology from shielding technology to artificial intelligence were abundant all in the hopes of preparing for the next wave. Nobody was of the impression that they wouldn't return, when deep space scanners detected them amassing a fleet far larger than the one that decimated our system a plan had to be concocted as despite advances in technology there was no way Humanity could survive such an onslaught.
Project Genesis was concocted in secret, 12 Arks would be constructed to ensure humanity survived. Filled with the best and brightest humanity had to offer, each ship capable of hosting 100,000 waking people with a further 500,000 in cryogenic stasis. At the same time a hyperspace gate would be built in orbit, sending each Ark to a different distant solar system to minimize the chance of being followed or the possibility of sending the Arks into a dangerous system. Each Ark built with the best technology, the best resources humanity had to offer however the labor was mainly done by robots and trusted individuals to reduce panic. As soon as the cryogenic bays were completed healthy young individuals were chosen from the population at random and brought aboard the ships in secret.
10 Years later, with the Devastator fleet on the move again Project Genesis was made public, riots happened as expected however many people seemed to understand the necessity of their sacrifice. Admiral Constantine, a hero of humanity delivered the address and promised that he would lead all military units willing to fight against the Devastators. Not one member of the military went A.W.O.L, or asked to be released from service. In the mean time the best servicemen were assigned to the Arks, as well as Scientists from all fields, historians, doctors and engineers.
The Vitae, our Ark, is now ready to launch as Mars falls to the onslaught. How will you contribute to humanities survival?

You are given creative freedom, if unsure about a piece of technology you are addressing in your post contact me about it first. What I am doing is establishing a baseline for you (players) to expand on which allows you to have creative freedom within this universe. If you want me to be strict and explain every little thing, I can do so.
The current year is 2216
The above ships saw duty in the Three Day War, the smallest being 100m long with a 1:1 scale making the largest ship being 900M long. The ships are known to wield high powered plasma weapons, but appear to carry no strike craft of any sort. Shielding seems to be non-existent but the material the hull is made from appears to be incredibly strong. Study of some of the debris from the Three Day War indicates that the ships are organic in nature.
No bodies of enemy combatants were found, and there was no ground assault so we are unclear on what the enemy looks like.
The Three Day War started on April 1st 2196, when the enemy fleet was first reported and people told to be evacuated many thought it to be a hoax. As such the station known as the Citadel on the very edge of our solar system had almost three million souls aboard when it's defenders fell and the beings soon to be known as the Devastators tore through what remained of the station. From there they continued to push in an unrelenting wave, the Spacers were the first to respond having lost their station. Sending a fleet two times the size of the enemy fleet to defend their outpost on Titan. Requesting help from the Martians, who denied at the expense of old wounds. Earth didn't even respond to the request for help as the Cold War between the Federation and Conglomerate was reaching a tipping point.
As the Spacer Navy was devastated and Titan fell an Admiral for the Federation by the name of Roland Constantine took his fleet away from it's standoff against the Conglomerates fleet, stating that if they did not work together this could see an end to humanity. The Conglomerate fleet followed to the orbit of Mars where Martian, Federation, Conglomerate and Spacer fleets fought together for the first time since the infamous pirate Tiberius Wallace plagued humanities solar system. Despite the overwhelming size of the human fleet, the battle was almost lost. In a last ditch attempt to cause as much damage as possible the enemy turned their weapons on the Martian Cities below, and in the heat of the moment Admiral Constantine placed his own ship between the weapon fire and the planet. Risking everything in the process.
In the aftermath of the war, leaders from all factions decided to meet for the first time in almost a century aboard the Arcadius. Admiral Constantines flagship. In the days after the war the United Earth Council was formed, with all the previous faction leaders becoming a member of the council.
Hyperspace is travel through a dimension that has been dubbed as 'subspace'. In subspace distance/time is not the same as it is in our own dimension, it bridges immense distances in a way that isn't possible in our own space time. With hyperspace you can travel vast distances over the period of minutes/hours however time appears to travel faster in our own dimension. Meaning that if you were in hyperspace for an hour it could mean days in real space, unfortunately this ratio appears to differ and scientists as of yet are unable to figure out the cause behind this variation.
Hyperspace engines are massive, which is why the Arks do not have their own engines. Instead the Eye of Theia was constructed for the Genesis Project in order to send the Arks to their destination.
The Jump Drive is an older design, which for Genesis has had some improvements done to it. A Jump Drive can jump instantaneously to a new location, it is only limited by the power needed for such a jump. You may ask yourself why a race with such technology would research a hyperdrive, the drive is unreliable. In that it requires massive amounts of power and time to charge up, once it has started to charge it must be used or it could explode and destroy the entire ship. It also requires a significant cooldown, while a short jump takes only half an hour to charge it takes six hours to cool down.
The major problem is it strains the hull and spine of the ship, so overuse could result in structural damage to the ship in question. Especially if that ship makes a large number of long jumps.
Robotics are highly advanced in this day and age, all production (even of food) is done via robotics. Models are largely humanoid in appearance and are capable of lifting far more than the average human. They fill roles in almost every major industry.
Prosthesis are at the point where they can fully replace anything from an arm to a finger, and even internal organs. These artificial limbs/organs are then 'wired' into the persons neural network which lets them use it as if it was a natural body part, in studies it is found that the brain (in terms of sending neural signals) is unable to notice the difference between a real limb and a fake one. People with prosthesis are no longer looked down upon and are actually sought after in some professions where they offer an advantage.
Cybernetic Enhancements are less common, as despite the tech being readily available the surgery is purposefully made expensive so that people don't fully remove themselves from humanity, these laws became far stricter after the Genesis Protocol was established, as it is important for those that are set to repopulate the human race are capable of doing so. That said cybernetic enhancements are possible from everything including augmented vision to even having an A.I. Implant in your head.
Artificial Intelligence exists, however after bad Sci-Fi movies and some rouge units they are heavily monitored and controlled, most often units are used by the military on the use of battleships however some businesses do have their own units that help run the company. Units are free-thinking, but they typically have their memories erased every couple of years to prevent them from developing anything relating to a personality. Each Ark in regards to the Genesis Project has it's own unique A.I designed for the sole purpose of safeguarding humanities future.
The units in question are programmed to ensure the survival of humanity but cannot perform actions unless ordered by the Captain or the First Officer, but is allowed to make suggestions based on the situation.
Shields were a concept being used before the Three Day War, but after the war their development was marked as a priority and they have come a long way. A shield generator in a ship creates an electromagnetic barrier around the ship, this barrier is capable of blocking all forms of incoming fire, however it is extremely taxing on power generation and sustained fire causes the capacitors and field generators to overload which can cause the shield to fail.
While humanity does have access to energy weapons, these weapons are typically too large and demanding on power reserves to be put on mobile spaceships, the weapons typically kept for spacestations or for orbital based systems. Instead they use traditional kinetic style weaponry, where an explosive shell is fired at a target. However it is fired by electromagnetic rails that propel the projectile and incredible speeds. An advantage of these systems is that different shells can be used, such as flak or armour piercing rounds, depending on the situation. Most modern ships have a main battery of plasma based weapons for capital ship warfare, as these guns are large and slow.
Missiles are also in common use, with a variety of payloads. However more recently scientists have been looking for a way for a missile to carry a portable shield generator or even a small variation of the jump drive.
Like in modern times a variety of hand held weapon systems exist. Similar to the larger weapon systems they are all kinetic based, however with the use of electromagnetic rail 'railgun' technology the bullets are released at a greater velocity making them even deadlier. Most weapon systems also come with assisted targetting, and smart bullets. Which make it more likely that you will hit your target.

R&Z Industries Plasma Gun Mark I
"Early tests of the gun have revealed promising results. The material chosen is enough to handle the rigors of Plasma and hasn't cracked after prolonged usage. However the casings of Plasma Shells prove difficult since the liquid is volatile at best.."
One of the first military approved Plasma Weapons. The casing for the weapon used weighs the same as a light machine gun but the recoil is worse and on par with the likes of a shotgun and ammo acquirement is hard unless the right machines and chemicals are used.
Power generation is all about fusion. Trying to harness the power of the sun itself. The design hasn't really changed in the past ten years, with the exception that they have managed to make the reactors bigger for more output. This has been made possible by shielding technology to keep any harmful radiation within the reactor and preventing it from spreading throughout the ship. In the event of failure all ships have energy storage with enough energy to help the ship to it's destination. Power cores are also able to be (though in a complicated process) expelled from ships in the case of emergency.
While Plasma is yet to fully phase out kinetic weapon systems, they are used for engines on all classes of ships. From small fighters up to the biggest ships ever created, the Arks, each ship has a variety of engines to give it as much control as possible however none are more impressive than the ones on the stern which are capable of making the Arks incredibly fast for their size.
For the ease of getting this up quickly I'm only going to post up the designs we're taking with us.
The Arks of the Genesis project are the biggest ships ever constructed by humanity, over 7km long. It is designed with the best technology that humanity has to offer, they are wholly independent with their own processing/construction/agriculture facilities so that they can be lived upon until the time comes that the population aboard can make planetfall.
It carry's 1,000 active crew (not including scientists and doctors) and 9,000 passengers. On top of this there are large cryogenic chambers housing another 500,000 people who were chosen specifically for this project. Each Ark is stocked for maximum 'compatibility' between crew members to try and ensure pairings.
On top of this it can carry one Reaper-Class Cruiser, one hundred T-22 Space Superiority Fighters and fifty AG-64 Gunships.
The Reaper-Class Cruiser is a 150M long light attack ship, designed to be able to dock with it's larger brethren. It is one of the fastest capitals in the fleet due to it's size, capable of going twice the speed of an Ark. It's weapon systems are designed to be fast tracking, which allows it to perform hit and runs on larger targets or take on strikecraft.
On top of this it is a plasma cannon on the bow that can perform a powerful strike if the Reaper manages to line up a shot. Though it's biggest advantage is that it needs a very small crew, with ten crew being the absolute minimum, due to a large number of it's systems being automated.
The T-22 is a small craft, only 14m long. It is designed to be crewed by one pilot, however if packing ordanance it can also have a gunner. Relying mainly on two kinetic cannons as previously mentioned it is capable of packing missiles however it's main battle advantage is it's speed. It is the fastest ship humanity has to offer, with a T-22 able to leave a Reaper behind with ease. They are designed solely to be fast and nimble, with a T-22 able to rotate 180 degrees in .36 seconds.
However it is too small for any form of shielding system, so can take very few hits from any other form of strikecraft and no hits from a capital battery.
Designed to be multi-role the AG-64 is capable of carrying 30 personnel for either boarding or landing operations, however it also packs multiple weapon batteries. From lighter cannons it also packs two impressive missile batteries which make it effective at engaging either strikecraft or capital ships. However it lacks speed, and while it does have a shielding system it is not as impressive as that of a capital ship so it is vulnerable in prolonged engagements.
The Martian Unity was formed in 2098, forty eight years after the first Martian colony was founded by what was then the European Confederacy. During the Third World War in 2068 the Martian Colony was largely neglected, with the Confederacy having to deal both the United States and the United Korean State by itself in a three way war. After the end of the war in 2079 as what was left of the European Confederacy after the Nuclear Fall of '78 joined either the newly formed Roslin Federation in the West or the Nagasaki Conglomerate in the East conditions on Mars became even worse as the Federation worked the Martians even harder than the European Confederacy had, so eventually in 2090 the Martians began to revolt.
After eight years of Guerilla warfare the Federation, with the Cold War with the Conglomerate to worry about, decided it would be easier to focus their attentions on Earth rather than Mars. Calling their military back and giving Mars their independence.
The Roslin Federation was formed (originally) out of the Americas, formed during the Third World War as the United States of America consolidated itself against attacks from both the European Confederacy and the United Korean State. In a twist of fate they actually caused the formation of the Nagasaki Conglomerate. In trying to use their ties with Japan to attack the United Korean State they ended up dragging Japan into the war.
While the Nagasaki Conglomerate was the more technologically advanced the Roslin Federation had a much larger standing army, as well as economic security.
The Nagasaki Conglomerate formed midway through the Third World War. As the Roslin Federation forced themselves upon Japan to try and get a way to attack the United Korean State they dragged Japan into the war, rising tensions resulted in the formation of the Conglomerate which fought with the Americans against the United Korean state, while also gathering it's own military might and consolidating it's place within the east. With the fall of nuclear weapons the Nagasaki Conglomerate forced a surrender upon the United Korean State which was then forced to join the Conglomerate.
Since then there has been rising tension between them and the Federation, however they are far more technologically superior.
After the results of the Third World War, the European Confederacy (nicknamed the United States of Europe) fell. Their capital of Russia was decimated by nuclear fire, as were major hubs in all the other member states. Those who survived the fire either fled to the Federation or the Conglomerate. However up until the Arks left people are claimed to live in the nuclear wasteland.
Armani or 'Spacers' weren't an official nation until they built the Citadel at the very edge of the solar system to show their capabilities. Original members of the Arman Corporation as the members had spent most of their lives in space they decided to become fully autonomous. They are not disliked by either the federation or the conglomerate as they opted not to take sides in the cold war between the two nations, which is one of the reasons they declared their independence. This allows them to play both sides of the conflict, seen as thrill seekers and money makers most of them never touch down on solid ground in their entire lives.
Despite the decimation of their fleet and resources to the Devastators the 'Spacers' were one of the main forces used for the construction of the Genesis Project. After the projects completion most of them signed up for the military for one last fight.
The United Earth Council is the unification of the Roslin Federation, Nagasaki Conglomerate and Martian Unity. While they did make use of the Armani they did not become official members for reasons unknown, which is why so few of the Armani have made it aboard the Genesis Project. Despite the need to try and stave off extinction however it should be noted that there are still tensions between people who grew up in one state or another.
Rules
1. I am the GM. What I say goes. Heat is my Co-GM. 2. Characters can (and likely will) die, accept that if you do something stupid you may not survive it. 3. Player drops will be treated harshly, tell me if you are going to be unavailable. 4. This is Sci-Fi, but we're keeping a foot in the door of reality. 5. Romance is okay, but if it goes beyond a kiss take it to PM or off guild (Guild rules) 6. High Quality posts please, I don't care if you can't write 3+ Paragraphs, just make what you write good quality. 7.No Super Long Collabs. It's hard to deal with someone who drops in a collab, keep them short so if need be I can offer GM interference or someone can interupt. If something critical happens in a collab e.g. a Bulkhead explodes post the collab up to that point, as that affects other people. 7.5. Magic-word for sheets is Pineapples. 8. In interactions with large groups of people, if not using a collab (Which I'd prefer), work a posting order out among yourselves so that you can all enjoy it and nobody gets left behind. 9. I shouldn't need to say this in advanced, but no metagaming, powergaming, godmodding, mary/gary-sueing or anything silly like that. 10.Have fun. 11. Do stupid shit? Expect consequences.
Duty Roster
On this roster are named characters (including NPCs) and their positions aboard ship. These roles will remain open until they are needed IC and then their space will be filled by an NPC. Send me (@Sep) a PM if you wish to replace a NPC from the roster.
Note these are recommendations, got an idea for an Officer that you feel should be on the bridge? Throw together a sheet!
Head of Research: [VACANT] There are a lot of scientific fields, and I am not going to list them all. This list will be added to as and when people apply for research personnel.
While named the 'bridge' after ships of old the Command Center is actually in the heart of the ship, hidden away so that it cannot be targetted by enemy ships. Different stations control different areas of the ship, and interface with other rooms with staff devoted to specific tasks (i.e. the weapon control console relays information to the gun control crews). Large hologram emitters are the main focus of the commander, who can have anything the sensors can detect brought up from live battlefeeds to planet sensor sweeps, giving him and his crew a birds eye view.
The Hangar is the single biggest room on the ship, situated around the midship it has a door on the starboard and port section of the ship. Each blast door is as thick as the outer hull, as these doors are slightly slower there are also two lighter hangar doors that can close rapidly if need be. These hangars are designed solely for the smaller craft and not the Reaper-Class, the craft are stored below the actual hangar deck and are brought up on elevators when needed.
The Reaper-Class (Named the 'Nyx' sits in hangar along the stern of the ship, and can be dropped out when needed.
The Cryogenic vault is one of the most important parts of the ship, with 500,000 souls frozen. Every chamber is meticulously watched and monitored for any change in vitals. While the pods themselves demand a large amount of power they can be removed for a short period of time from the hub without the occupant waking up if necessary however this is avoided as much as possible.
Each pod has a camera monitoring it, which allows family members to view their loved ones who are in stasis if they so choose.
The Cryogenic Vault is towards the bow of the ship, so that in the event of a catastrophic failure in the engines at the stern the cryogenic vault can seal itself and act as a disaster bunker.
The Hub is the civilian/recreational area of the ship. It has everything from bars, nightclubs, cafes, diners, restaurants, bowling alleys, movie theaters, gaming arenas and shopping centres. It acts as distribution for the goods produced on the ship and the ones in storage that were brought aboard for the journey, that said certain goods (Such as name brand alcohols, fresh meats etc.) are heavily rationed with a cap on how much a person can buy during any one week. Crew quarters for all non-essential personnel are situated around the hub, all essential personnel are situated near their place of work.
Eden is situated at the very center of the hub, a simulated outdoor environment with real plants, a day/night cycle, wind and even simulated weather. While there are seed vaults and hydroponic labs elsewhere in the ship this garden is meant for everyone to have access. It has a radius of 1km, and very strict laws on how people treat the garden to ensure that it lasts the journey. People are limited to a maximum of three hours in the garden, unless they have written permission from a doctor for therapy reasons.
Designed to be comfortable, every person on board has their own toilet facilities and room to store their own things. As well as (rudimentary) mainframe access that allows them to access the archives, and with special permissions view the stasis cameras on any of their loved ones. The window unit can be programmed for a variety of images, from outside of the Vitae (unless blocked by command authorization) to different views of Mars, Earth or our home solar system.
While the ship has walkways, elevators and ladders the ship has a large transit system, where automated electronically powered 'buses' transport people to their destinations. This transit system also allows engineers in an emergency, medical personnel, security or anyone else who has authorization to use their own vehicles to reach an area of the ship they desparately need to in a hurry.
Ship security have several of these stations situated all over the ship, sharing them with the investigator branch of things. The central security station is situated in the hub with the theory being that if any offenses are committed that is where. Those of high ranking (such as the Head of Security) are able to access all stations from one terminal, as well as cameras all over the ship.
There are numerous medbays throughout the ship, each with their own operating theater, pharmacy and offices for medical staff. However rather than wards where disease can spread rapidly patients each have their own small room, with their own toilet facilities and a bed that when sealed can release numerous drugs through the form of a gas, it also monitors vitals reliably and can perform X-Ray and MRI scans without having to move the patient.
The Archive has a data core, and data storage hosting all of humanities knowledge. From theoretical physics to childrens books and movies the Archive has it all. While some files are restricted for safety purposes a large portion of information, such as human history and entertainment material, can be accessed from any terminal in the ship. However physical copies of books are handled with extreme care, and are not allowed to be removed from the Archives.
Character Sheet:
Note:Your character was selected because they're great at what they do. It's also important to note that your character will have known that they won't have much room on the ship, and are never going home. A last note is, the selection process will have tried to 'discreetly' weed out those who weren't viable to produce offspring.

F.A.Q
1. Can I be a scientist? Yes. Yes you can. 2. How will this work? We'll be working towards survival, as I our mighty GM, will throw things your way. These could be big events that effect everyone (Such as a spaceship showing up and shooting at us), or small events that only effect a few people (Such as a murderer on board, or a deadly virus). 3. What year is it? 2216. 4. How long has it been since WWIII? 137 Years. 5. How old is the Vitae? She's virtually brand new, though her construction took nearly ten years. 6. Will there be civilians on the ship? Yes, with offduty personnel, scientists there will also be a substantial civilian population but they will also perform a vital role, on production of goods to staffing recreational facilities. 7. Can my family come? All crew will have had the opportunity to file for up to three family members to come aboard in stasis. This is to keep family lines apart, make sure there is no unemployment and is meant as a kindness. They must also be a viable choice for the program e.g. young/healthy and have skills necessary to build humanities future.
@Nevix questions are good, it is possible that some managed to run but not many. Most likely if you ran it would be 'see the fleet, holy shit run away.'
It was a bit of a massacre after all, a lot of people would have remained feeling safe and secure.
@rush99999Vitae is the second to launch, but like most the other 12 Arks she's brand spanking new, they wanted to make sure all critical systems were ready A.S.A.P so all the Arks were done more or less in unison. The A.I will have very little experience, so I'd ask if you could do a sample post (even if you want to PM that to me instead) just so I get an idea for your level of writing.
Will be working on an app over the weekend. I have work tomorrow and company on Sunday and Monday but will hopefully squeeze in some time to work on a CS.
The A.I will have very little experience, so I'd ask if you could do a sample post (even if you want to PM that to me instead) just so I get an idea for your level of writing.
I don't see how my level of writing has anything to do with an AI's lack of experience, but I'll get right on that.
@rush99999 Well I was predicting that with the A.I.s lack of history you may not have a lot to write about in the biography which (at least I as a GM) use to evaluate peoples level of writing/writing skill. I mean if you can flesh out a long bio that'd be great, sorry if I seem distrustful :P
Question: As a gay man looking at this RP, and being your stereotypical gay throwing his sexuality everywhere, I was wondering, would it be a plot point if someone on the ship was gay (therefore slightly problematic to producing offspring), or would it just be "Oh you're gay... Put some sperm in the bank and we'll talk later."

Oh wow, that's actually an interesting thing to think about. Maybe he keeps it a secret, then it comes out, and it causes a rift among the civilians who support it, and the staff who don't on the grounds of his reproductive uselessness?
Edit: Oh wait, the sperm bank seems like a quick fix lol,

Well he's not useless, I'd imagine that they were smart enough to have artificial insemination on the ship, but I'm wondering if it's an issue or just a thing they work around.
