The 'spam is dead' metaphor is itself a 'dead metaphor'. It's various meanings in practical use do not emerge organically from the image it should evoke. It also, most relevantly suggest a single point of no return. Sure some events were more important than others and spam will never be the same as it once was, but unless this is the dying post it's not dead. (Pls be shitty last post ever)

I'm going to be brutally honest and state the hard truth: a lack of bullying killed Spam. Newcomers were not excluded enough to ward off those who did not belong outright, and the undesirable traits in those members who did manage to fit in were not sufficiently mocked. This is the central issue that led to the various exoduses.

Probably before. I've been around since 2008 and I got banned somewhere in 2010 and returned in 2011, if I recall correctly.
