Name: Marigold AKA Mary AKA "That annoying idiot" AKA "THE SUPER AWESOME FAIRY OF CALAMITY" (self appointed)
Age: Unknown, at least 140 years.
Race: Lesser Fairy (hah!)
Appearance:She'll murder you. Worth noting she's barely
3''Personality: Marigold, like most fairies has a rather simplistic and upbeat approach to life, more content with enjoying day to day life than long term planning. Unlike other fairies, Marigold relentlessly pursues challenges and battles, and is utterly fearless and reckless. There's no opponent too big or too strong to challenge. Worth noting that she completely and blindly follows all heroic cliches, down to boasting and yelling her presence out loud. Truthfully, Marigold is actually a rather insecure individual, who feels a huge inferiority complex towards big races. However, Marigold, for all her aggressive and irresponsible antics, has a tendence towards good, and she'll stand in the line to defend the innocent every single time. Even though she behaves like a moron, Marigold can be pretty cunning when it comes to battle strategies, and is rather good at magic.
Abilities:-Super STRONK: Marigold, after her hellish training, has been blessed with the strength and endurance of SEVEN lesser FAIRIES! (Equivalent to a housecat, more or less)
-Flight: Fairies can fly very fast and nimbly, but given their low weight they're affected strongly by winds.
-Luminiscence: Marigold emits a faint light whenever she is around, useful for those dark nights...but also brings a lot of unwanted attention. She can switch it off at will though.
-Fairy Dust: A highly prized healing item. Just grab the little tyke and spray it on wounds.
-SUPER STRONK Fairy Magic: Marigold is a monster when it comes to handling fairy magic. Most lesser fairies need to gather in large groups to perform rather decent magic feats. Marigold can do it solo (although, when compared to larger, humanoid races, it is much less flattering, being average towards slightly gifted). Like most fairies, she excels in healing magic, protection, illusions and charming plants and animals, but she has added some elemental spells because EXPLOSIONS.
-Speak with animals: She may talk to them, but she risks being eaten.
-Singing and dancing: Marigold can sing and dance fairly well, but she doesn't like to do it because it's not heroic.
Salvaged Item: Fairy Stone- It can help getting a good night's rest, as well as bring good luck. Otherwise useless.
History: Marigold's origins are quite hazy, like most wooden spirits. She just... appeared at some point in the forest, and spent all her time dancing around the flowers, singing alongside her peers. Everything she knew was the forest and that was fine by her. Until one day, a strange being wandered inside. Wounded and weary from battle, the fairies found a human. Taking pity on them, their greater fairy leader Foxglove ordered them to treat the warrior's wounds. It was then when Marigold became interested in what the man had to say. It sparked her curiosity, and wished to know the outside world. The devotion of the nameless hero made unknown emotions appear on the lesser fairy, and she craved to follow the warrior in the battlefield.
But Foxglove didn't allow any fairy to set a foot outside the forest, for they would perish quickly. Marigold fumed, but she couldn't disobey her leader, so she instead brought the heroics to the forest. She trained her body and soul for decades, never backing down from a challenge and fighting battles with other fairies and creatures, increasing her strength. Little by little she felt more distant with her peers, and one day she found out after chasing a boar outside the forest, that she didn't feel drained anymore when exiting the forest. She had grown way too powerful than any lesser fairy had right to be.
This was evident the day she wrecked several trees while testing her newly-minted fireball spell. That was the snapping point of Foxglove, who had grown weary of the reckless fairy antics, and decided to trick Marigold into exile by taking the timely notice of the Tawken King about the expedition to send the troublemaker far away.
Nation of Origin: Forbidden Forest
Nation Lore: Once a common sight among the lands, the enchanted forests like the Forbidden Forest were home to a large number of spirits, although, just like the elven nations, they began disappearing one by one, with the encroachment of lumberjacks and other races. The Forbidden Forest, which spared by bizarre bordeline treatises between Tawken and several other countries which preventing exploiting the wood without causing a diplomatic incident, is one of the few survivors of that era, and it has grown quite isolationist ever since. Protected by strong magic of the greater fairies, leaders of the fae kind in general, they lead travellers astray and out of the forest. It also is a wildlife sanctuary of rare creatures.
Fairies are a quite loose and anarchic bunch, with a poorly understood biology and seemingly infinite lifespans. It has been said they're always female, with a strict caste division between greater Fairies (which can grow to humanoid sizes) and the bug-like lesser fairies. Fairies are quite xenophobic of most races, mostly because other races hunted down them for their fairy dust, and because they chopped down the forests for timber. Fairies do require healthy, lushful forests to thrive, and thus any kind of action that reduces a forest size will have an impact on their numbers.
Fairies have the names of plants and flowers. The current overseer of the Forbidden Forest is the Greater Fairy Foxglove.
Other: She loves cookies and sweets and can be bribed with them.Usually, lesser fairies require to be in the vicinity of forests regularly otherwise they weaken and die, but Marigold is an exception.
