@fer1323 Sophia's going to be ashamed of the first impression she gave Lan, so she's going to try to prove herself by challenging him, and probably lose badly. (Is Oscar going to see that?) Also, Heckno12 says somebody could turn up who's going to inadvertently make her emotional state worse. You'll see why.

Basically, think how things usually go for Sophia.

Amber's not going to rush into the gym battle. She's the type who'd train first. She might also get a Drilbur and a Sableye while she's in Mesalon.

@LuckyBlackCat Oscar is more inclined to follow Amber to train and probably persude Sophia to tag along. Oscar will try also to keep the relationship train on the track by aiding Sophia confront the source of emotional pain.

@fer1323 Sophia's not exactly the type to open up to people, though... at least, not until her facade breaks. She'll just insist she's fine at first.

@fer1323 The keyword there is "unintentionally", so she's going to put up even more defenses than usual (even though the entire group needs to get stronger, not just her - she holds herself to really high standards as you can tell).

I like how even though Oscar annoys the hell out of her, he's the one she can somewhat open up to.

@LuckyBlackCat I am going to annoy her more by including himself in her fights. Oscar might be a philosopher, he is not afraid to get aggressive but he prefers to be non-aggressive.

@LuckyBlackCat Yeah, we should do that. The main antagonist in my fanfic might come across as really evil but the antagonist back story is tragic as hell. I am nearly finish withe next chapter.

@fer1323 Which is why I was thinking they should battle again at some point fairly soon, maybe once they each have a fourth Pokemon.

As for the fanfic, antagonists can be some of the most interesting characters.

@LuckyBlackCat I love tragic antagonists and antiheros. The 'perfect hero' is over use. I like characters with a tragic story and/or are broken mental and emtional like Rigs from the Lethal Weapon series.

@fer1323 Oh yes, characters with emotional issues. It gives them something to overcome, especially if their flaws and insecurities get in the way of their goals or drive them to make mistakes. Much better than heroes who can do no wrong.

I mean, I do like characters with strong morals, but even they're going to struggle with what the right thing is sometimes.

@LuckyBlackCat I like the use of symbols and themes too. You might have noticed that. I might use them alot but it helps me define a character and ther reader recognize my character better. What do you think?

@fer1323 You mean like how Oscar specialises in Fighting types? That fits his personality pretty well, strong sense of justice and all that.

I like doing that too. Moves like Reflect and Light Screen are going to become a bit of a signature thing for Sophia's Pokemon.

... And your character's going to have quite a few Pokemon with Brick Break... I know that wasn't intentional, but wow. That works so well, considering our characters' interactions.

@LuckyBlackCat I was refering to things like Roadrunner from Looney Tunes blaziken with a speed boost. I like to think Oscar is closer to a Shaolin Monk. Brick break is one of the few counters againest your team.

@fer1323 That and a lot of Fighting types have Dark type moves... Yeesh, Sophia's going to be in for a nasty surprise when she battles Oscar's full specialised team, or the Fighting type gym leader.

If you ever play Reborn, just wait till you get to Apophyll Academy. The students there will remind you of Oscar soooo much, and yeah, they use Fighting types.

@fer1323 I think Iatos is still active but just hasn't had an opportunity to post recently. Considering how popular Eeveelutions are, some people have claimed the same ones, but I'd still want to make sure it was ok first.
