Aren't founded in reality.
Reality.

What manner of madman are you, telling us of this so-called 'reality'?

Seriously though, we are in a rather laissez-faire RP, which is steampunk, no less. Our reality is not necessarily the RP's reality, after all...

@Invictus yes...so let me get this straight: we are at totally opposite ends of the ideological spectrum, are already inclined to be hostile to each other ('Heretic!' 'Counter-revolutionary!'), are competing with each other internationally because we both produce goods, and furthermore live really close to each other? I think we have the groundwork of a national feud between us...

Quick question usurper, how much food are you looking for?

As much as possible- I guess the maximum the Administration would trade for is enough to feed seventy million people. You probably can't do that much, so as much as your country can reasonably manage would be great.

Great. This could be the start of a mutually beneficial relationship...
Or a massive weak point for my nation, should you decide to stop supplying food.

I wasn't talking about actual realism, my use of the word reality was more of a reference to plausible military tactics.

Ah, okay then. I mostly meant that this being a fantastical RP, the more outlandish elements of this genre could be hand-waved in order to provide a more interesting experience. At least, so long as we don't go overboard with nuclear powered 500 metre tall killer titans...

For the starting of the Commen Era date in my nation's history a powerful empire used to rule over my nation as well as most of the surrounding area so we could use that in there somehow as well as the beginning of the use of the Smoky trade language.

Yeah, smoky could be a bastardised form of the empire's language- 'pig latin', in other words...

Yes it does seem to create yet another feud within my neighbors. I was really hoping that some other people would create similar religions or I should have taken a slightly larger piece of land because everyone is against my people.

If you are going to factor that they can trip over often enough that you need to make specific technology just to get them back on their feet, what is the point? Why go up stairs with a mech when you could have a squad of men do it better? Why even go up mountainous terrain with a mech when you could ride up it with a powerful tank? Why go over barricades when you could smash through them, giving you an even bigger advantage.Tanks are more mobile, easier to get a crew into, easier to hide, can have bigger guns, and can have more armor.Tanks better, man.

Ahh, but you see my Mechs aren't going to be anything like they are tanks, mine are more of troop transport, small runners/quad legged scouting machines, and mortars. You can bust things down with tanks and send squads up hills, but I can send a heavy mortar to climb over a small mountain and start raining hell down on the battlefield from the protection of the other side (given I have spotters with sight).

As i've said previously, i've had no mind of making my mechs a frontline battleforce. I've got a trojan horse sorta, without the whole trojan horse concept. Basically an incredibly large, all terrain troop transport. I might end up taking off the DP-T as i've since than kinda been turned off to its design. Fact of the matter is, in my mind they make better troop transports and mobile base/communications platforms, whereas tanks are what you really want in a battle.

Just popping in to check up on things! Turns out I'm off to my dad's house this weekend, a place plagued with horrible internet connections. So my responses to questions will be considerably short. I just can't stand typing on a phone.

PM me the details of what you have in mind and I think we might be able to work something out. Sounds interesting enough

As for the origins for the Standard Dating System......... I feel like it came about the same way the universal "Smoky" language came about. There was a need for a universal dating system and common language in order to make international trade and politics much more efficient and simpler. The exact details I really haven't thought of, but if oyu guys really want some sort of elaborate backstory for these things I'm all ears to your ideas. I sort of like the idea of a preexisting empire that sort of set the standard, but really am game for anything.

Like I said though, I must ask the question:

Do you guys really want that much of a backstory for the common language and dating system? (lazy tone not intended XD)

I really did agree with Usurper King's thoughts on the matter last page as far as dating systems are concerned. I don't feel a huge backstory is necessary though, just a brief explanation or timeline for us to base our histories on.

If we use only a single great empire that would be weird if we use mine sice that would mean 1 language and religion is at least somewhat present around the world and already had plans for the language and religion of the empire to conquer my nation.

If we had like 2-3 major empires take over most of the world with a few minor surviving nations it would allow for the emergance of Smoky and a common dating system.

With military finished up, I can begin work on territory, history and extra notes. I see theres not a lot of sea-based navy about. I planned on my excuse being primarily sea traders, and being a primarily neutral nation there wouldn't be a heavy need to protect such trade. Are some of you guys substituting certain airships for such a navy, or are we going with basic rules and designs? (Typical ww2 designed battleships, gunships, destroyers, etc.)

I think we should go a little more steampunky than that, but it's like someone said earlier, your sea ships can be faster/heavier because they don't need to be kept in the sky. Lighter or smaller airships are what I think are mainly used by most of the nations. I don think anything will be able to overcome the amount of cargo that a sea ship can hold.

I would imagine seaships are primarily used for cargo-based needs. Just curious as I mostly see players with only airship designs.
