Dawkin Trustram

"Well... If you're sure then, still, I must at least walk with you to town and make sure you don't run into any trouble while you're in need of a chance of clothes." Dawkin said uncertainly. He didn't like causing trouble for other people, much less not doing anything to fix it. "Ah, I'm with the Professor yes. Uh, I'm terribly sorry but I don't recall seeing you with everyone else." Her wording implied she was also helped by the Professor but he was confident she hadn't been there with the group he had been in it. Had the Professor accepted another batch of kids? Not that it mattered overly in the grand scheme of things, but he was curious. Pichu leaned into the chin scritch before hopping away happily. Dawkin returned both Pichu and Wooper to their Pokeballs now that they were no longer the target of attention. "Regardless my name is Dawkin Trustram, a pleasure to meet you, even if I'm not sure you can say the same." Dawkin intro'd, with a rueful laugh at the end.

Amelia laughed as the Pichu hopped away and stood up straight again, looking up at Dawkin as he spoke to her.
"It's a pleasure to meet you Dawkin. I'm Amelia, Amelia Averyonna of Witchpeak City." She said, introducing herself with a kind smile. "If you wish to escort me back to town, I won't stop you. Company is always welcome on the road, however brief is might be for. As for not seeing me at the Professor's, I arrived later then everyone else. By the time I got there, almost everyone was gone. If you had seen me before now, it would have to be in passing, but I somehow doubt that is the case."

After waiting for a response from Dawkin, Amelia set off back towards Lakewatch Town, walking in silence for a bit before asking Dawkin the first question to come to her mind.
"So what pokemon did the Professor give you? Was it Wooper or Pichu? Or maybe some other pokemon I didn't see?" She asked him.

"Oh. Huh." Erika frowned, thinking that she should have studied Gible's moveset a bit better. Gibs on the other hand, flexed and put on some macho image as he stood triumphant. "Gib! Gib!" He tutted at the fainted Pikachu. "Oh! Gibs! Be nice!" Erika reprimanded her proud Pokemon before glancing around the forest to see if she could find another Pikachu. Thankfully, one was nearby.

"Alright Gibs! Let's try this again! Sand-Attack that Pikachu and charged forward and tackle it to the ground! We want to capture it so we can have an electric type, alright? Gibs flexed again before sweeping up some sand to cover his approach as he charged in and tried to tackle Pikachu to the ground.

Dawkin Trustram

Ah that explained it, a late arrival. "I see, that makes sense. We'd best be going then." With that the two of them started heading back to the city, Dawkin having mostly returned to his normal state of confidence now that his mistake wasn't glaring him in the face. "Hm? Oh my starter Pokemon was an Aron." Dawkin quickly grabbed and held up the Pokeball with the afore mentioned Pokemon in it. "He's pretty tough for such a little guy, I'm happy with him. The Wooper I caught in the Wet Caverns when I was on the run from Team Amethyst and the Pichu- well I guess I sorta ended up getting him because of them too. Whatever, I don't think they'll be bothering me much in the future unless they're particularly vindictive about grudges." Which in all reality they probably were, but he would deal with that when it came to it. "What about you? What made you come all the way from Witchpeak city to good old Pureplain town?"

After Martin’s words, Trubbish turned his body, looking out over the river and then into the dark cave that led back, before turning to face Martin again.

‘Trubbish,’ he confirmed, nodding to Martin and determining that following Martin out of this unfamiliar environment was with all likelihood his best option.

So, crossing the river on a Goldeen.

It’s not going to be easy. The current is powerful, and it’s a challenge enough that Goldeens flock to brave it, to prove themselves. The additional weight of Martin could, perhaps, make it insurmountable. However, through enough effort and stubbornness, with the assumption that Martin didn’t lose his grip in the current to be washed away, they’d eventually get to the other side. Going UP to see what might await further along the river would be impossible, but across works, if barely.

Now on the other side, soaked again, Martin was free to delve deeper into the cavern. And… it continued for pretty far with no changes. The cavern went up and down, it was really dark, Durants crawling here and there, Heatmors chasing them, and no other changes on this side of the river except the cave was slightly turning right.

As he walked through this particular part, he’d note small black creatures sleeping here and there in small pockets around him, and occasionally one would pop out of the wall to perhaps gaze curiously at him in the dark.

Pokédex Entry #529 – Drilbur, the Mole Pokémon. They and Excadrills dig out mazelike nests underground in which they live. Drilbur is known for being able to travel very fast through soil, able to reach 30 mph by putting its claws together and spinning rapidly, drilling through earth. They’re known to be rather friendly around people.

… But, if Trubbish was outside his Pokéball then they were quick to flee. Otherwise, they might watch him pass, or otherwise just vanish into the wall again, digging themselves who knows where.

And… suddenly, something very foreign rested on his left. The corridor continues, as uneven and rough as ever leading who knows where, but to his left awaits a metal door. It’s not big, it’s the size of a normal human door, the kind that slides open. The kind that slides open with a key-card, and there’s a place to slide a key-card to the direct left of the door. There are no signs which claim where this might be, who’s door it is or what might await on the other side.

Ahead the cavern continues… who knows where.

What does Martin do?

‘Huh. You got yourself a date already?’ Yvonne asked with a somewhat raised eyebrow. ‘You sure I wouldn’t be intruding… wait, her?’ Yvonne took a moment to process and then ended up on an unresolved note, but discarding all that she raised her chin and confirmed. ‘… Very well! I am grateful for this generous invitation, and as such I will accompany on this… “date”. I warn, I am known to be somewhat picky about my food! I trust you will not disappoint!’ Yvonne crossed her arms and told with resolve.

‘Absol,’ Stefan complained, still feeling irritated about the unresolved state of the training, causing Yvonne to pat him.

‘Be good, Stefan. I’ll treat you later. Then, you can mop the floor with your opponents on the grand stage instead,’ she told, and Stefan looked a bit more content before Yvonne returned him to his Pokéball.

‘Now, then. Where to?’ Yvonne asked expectantly.

@Pirouette

The Pikachu was taken by surprise by the sand-attack, and then turned towards Gibs. Then…

‘Pika, Pika~!’ the Pikachu called out happily to Gibs through the sand, looking extremely friendly. This was Play Nice, a move that inspires friendship between two Pokémon, intent on making enemies less willing to brutally attack.

… Except Gibles are extremely used to tackling their friends, and the goal in this case was to befriend the Pikachu anyway, so Play Nice (probably) completely failed and the Pikachu took Gibs smashing straight into his face, causing the two to topple over, Pikachu with a cry of distress.

The six kilo Pikachu was now being held down by the 20 kilo Gible. This is around where Pikachu started blasting electric shocks everywhere to attempt getting Gibs off him, but due to Ground-type the electric shocks were very ineffective against the dragon on him.

So, Erika threw a Pokéball at some point here. The Pokéball hit Pikachu, who vanished into it with a flash of light, causing Gibs to fall down onto the ground. Now, the ball.

It shook once. It shook twice...

For whenever they want to get there.

There are probably shops for clothing or otherwise buildings that are warm inside where they could just heat up or so. Otherwise specify what the two are looking for.

Connected areas:
Wet Caverns. Water-filled caverns that are located to the east. There’s a small hill to climb to get to the entrance.
Route 5. The main exit of Lakewatch, leading to a grassy incline connecting mountains, forests and plains.
Route 14. The waters of Dragon Lake are also known as Route 14. It connects Lakewatch Town, Highhill Town and Stillwood Village.

"Aron is a steel-type, so physically it should be able to take a few hits but against special attack oriented pokemon like most of mine, it's defenses won't mean much in the end, especially against a fire type." Amelia said, tilting her head a bit in thought. "But with Wooper alone, some of Aron's weaknesses without adding too many. You just need a pokemon to counter any possible grass-types you might come across. A good Flying, Fire, or Bug type would work."

As they entered Lakewatch Town, she made her way to a pokemon center to quickly change around in private, coming back out wearing a blue shirt instead of her now wet red one. Once that was done, she decided to look for something to dry it with, be it a machine or some other method. Once they found one, if Dawkin was still with her at this point, she would be silent for a minute or two before finally answering Dawkins other question now that she wasn't so cold and distracted.
"I came from Witchpeak simply to finally experience some freedom. I couldn't do much back home because of... reasons. I really don't like talking about it. I'm also hoping to make some friends that aren't pokemon. What about you? Why did you come tp Pureplain Town to meet the Professor?"

Martin Price

Trubbish appeared to be happy enough to follow Martin, which was good news. Even if it was just to get out of here. No doubt Team Virtue aren't coming back. He did have to recall Trubbish to get on Goldeen's back. Being his second time, he was getting better at holding on, and not slipping loose. Even with the current, and the running water. Goldeen had to struggle with the extra weight of Martin, as Magikarps flew by them, trying in vain to cross the river. It was obvious he wasn't going to be able to fight the current, but going across was possible. Getting to the other side, Goldeen jumped out of the water onto land.

Martin rolled off, drenched in water again. "Nice job, Goldeen. I knew you wouldn't send me down the river." He gave a thumbs up as he tried to catch his breath. It was nice that there was shredded blankets from that campsite, cause he could use it as some form of towel. Not the best way to dry off, but you improvise when nothing else works. Goldeen wasn't a fan of being out of the water, and turned to look at the water. "Ok, you can come back. I'll call you out when we need to go for a swim again, alright?" Goldeen gave a jump as she was recalled.

Martin then called out Nincada and Trubbish. The flashes of light reminding him that it is still really dark. As soon as Trubbish came out, the air was foul again. Martin took a clean breath of air, it wasn't going to be fresh from here out. "Ok, Nincada. Time for more cave exploring, so you can take the lead. Trubbish, I don't normally do more than one Pokemon out at a time, but you deserve better than sitting in a Pokeball. Let's see where this leads."

Continuing along the route was the familiar flashes of light from Heatsmor and the scurrying of Durants. If bad smells was the price he had to pay to avoid them, then it was worth it. He did spot something new, trying to scan one with his Pokedex. It wasn't successful, as they were either too busy or not a fan of the smell. He did eventually catch a break, with one of them being too curious for its own good. So that makes five types of Pokemon spotted so far.

Eventually, Martin spotted something reflecting the light of fires. It looked like metal, and getting closer. He noticed it was locked by a keycard. Hoping for the best, Martin used the only keycard he had, to see if it worked. "I wonder what's behind door number one." Nincada showed little interest in the situation, looking around and following distant sounds with his head.

Action: Try using the Key Card to open the door. If it does open, check out what lies inside. If it does not work, continue along instead.

For sake of convenience, Amelia finds one of those places with washing-machines and dry-cleaners and heated rooms to hang clothing in for small amounts of money. In a place where people live on top of water, there is no way everyone has room for such in their apartments, after all. Some might even hang their things between the buildings the old-fashioned way, but heh.

‘Trubbish!’ Trubbish seemed happy to be allowed to walk on his own, walking about looking around curiously as they headed on.

Then... at the door.

Martin pulled the one keycard he had. A green light lit up, a confirming sound echoed out into the nearby cavern, and the door opened. The inside was square, lit by a bright white light with white walls… It’s an elevator. There were buttons on the right, with text describing the options and lights marking their availability.

3F - Offices, Auditorium - Green Light
2F - Barracks, Medical Facility, Lounging Area, Dining Area - Green Light
1F - Reception, Classrooms, Exit - Green Light
B1 - Pokémon Training Area, Pokémon Pens - Green Light

Underground - White Light

B5 - no mark - Red Light
B6 - no mark - Red Light

‘T-Trubbi…’ Trubbish looked uncomfortable, looking up at Martin with slight worry and then looking into the white elevator, seemingly hiding from the elevator behind Martin’s legs…

"Nice job, Gibs!" Erika shouted her encouragement as she quickly fished around in her bag for an empty Pokeball. She had no doubt that her Gible would be fine in this situation, seeing as his Ground typing would protect him from any crazed electricity attacks. However, she felt a tad impatient seeing as Pikachu was so easily pinned by Gibs that she decided it was enough to try to catch it.

With an accurate toss, she managed to peg that Pikachu and made him vanish in a flash of light. Gibs plopped unceremoniously into the ground but jumped up with a confident swagger like it was all planned. One shake... Two shakes... Caught!

Erika raised her hand up to her face before clenching her fists tightly in a triumphant emote. "Nice. An Electric type is perfect. Gibs, welcome Chu to the team!" Erika called out as she buckled in the new Pokeball to her team belt. Gibs gleamed back with a flex as he clearly believed he was the MVP of the team for that assist.

With her new member in hand, Erika navigated her way back to her companions, Joshua and Ewan, after her brief interlude. "Hey guys! Alright, I finally have an Electric type on my team. So I'm all set!" Erika greeted her companions before motioning her head towards the mountain. "If you wanted, we can check out the Frozen Cavern. Growing up, I always heard trainers talk about it and I finally get to live it...!" Erika beamed as her voice trailed off thinking about home. She'd love to show her mother just how far she has gone and her team shaping up, but it was still too soon! Cooldome City is supposed to be a tough place to battle and Erika hasn't even had that many opportunities to test herself. She needed more experience and then, she would be confident.

"Bingo!" The key card worked, opening into a clean white box. No, it's an elevator. Trubbish was shaking in fear, almost hiding. "So this is where Team Virtue are hiding, aren't they? I won't make you go in there if you don't want to." Curiosity got to Martin, as he had to see where this elevator could go. Numerous labels and lights lit up the wall. He was on the Underground level. There were lower levels, but it looked like they didn't work. or maybe he didn't have a good enough keycard. Above him was interesting.

"Who makes a building with an elevator going down into caves? Offices, Barracks? Reception, training rooms and Pokemon pens? Trubbish, I'm guessing you know this place too well?" He really wanted to go in the building, and see where it went. Even if he couldn't make it far, if just an idea where this place existed on the surface. "They won't get away with this. I'll make sure you get out of here, but I'm not done with this place." Martin walked back out of the elevator. He still had the keycard, and can find this place again. For now was looking for an exit, one that didn't have to go through Team Virtue.

Action: Keep traveling along the cave with Trubbish and Nincada.

Dawkin Trustram

Dawkin was surprised when Amelia immediately analyzed his team's strengths and weaknesses and quite adeptly at that. He had no good way to deal with Grass Pokemon at the moment and he couldn't really say all of his weaknesses were covered either. "Huh, you've certainly made an apt assessment of my lackings. I'm not quite sure what I plan on catching next. For now I plan on training my current team and if I see the chance to catch something I want I'll take it." Dawkin waited outside for her to change, not feeling like it would be proper to simply leave, despite having technically finished escorting her. "Me? Born and raised in Pureplain. Big family, wanted to get away from it all. Figured this was a pretty good way to do it." Not 100% accurate there, but... Good enough. "I still can't help but feel bad about messing up your clothes, maybe we could travel together for a bit and see if I find a chance to make it up to you? I was planning picking a random route to go down and train on my way, so it wouldn't be any skin off my back."

~Claire Blackwood~

@PlatinumSkink

"Awesome. I'll call Anise then!" Claire fished around in her bag for her pokedex, quickly finding her pokedex and dialing the other girls number. "Hey hey Anise! Yea! I had some fabulous contest practice! Ahh, you should have seen little Ralia she was adorable! You know where Suns and Rivers is?" She then went on to exuberantly invite Anise to dinner back and redcoast. She probably couldn't pay for somewhere exorbitantly expensive, but she could at least get some place decent. Well, she could always mooch money off her parents but she'd like to keep the mooching to a minimum.

Regardless, she'd speed her way back to Redcoast, confidently keeping a few steps ahead of Yvette almost as if she was challenging the other girl to an impromptu race. As soon as they finally arrived back and met up with Anise, she made her way to a restaurant by the name of 'Suns and Rivers'. By all means, a fairly normal place, but with a view of the sunset and river so unless any of them had complaints she'd pay for all of them.

Unless something unexpected happened, Claire'd probably be the first one done, and as soon as they got seated and eating, she'd ask Anise about something she'd been meaning too since their first battle in the old shrine - where she could find some fighting types. She really needed one, especially for the cool or tough contests. She'd also pester Yvette about her plans for the contests and how she'd go about doing that, and ask about Stefan and her other pokemon.

She also took the time to let her own pokemon out a bit to stretch their legs and introduce Anise and Yvette to all of them personally. It'd be a nice break after the gym battle. Unbenknownst to Claire, Ralia had pilfered a jar of honey somewhere and was now handing it over to Lure. In all, she'd like to think it was a nice little evening.

Soon though, they were done and she'd find herself standing on route 11, heading towards Rainrock city.

Head towards Rainrock city after evening with Anise and Yvette - still having forgot an umbrella. After lazing about a bit, give her pokemon a bit of training against wild pokemon and some trainers, if they happen to be around.

"I met a good teacher who was passing through in Witchpeak. He stayed and taught me how to battle and about pokemon types, their strengths, and their weaknesses. Had me study individual pokemon as well until I at least knew their typings." Amelia said before entering a building with washing machines and driers. She quickly paid for one of the open driers and put her shirt in and got the machine running. She then sat down on a nearby seat, listening to Dawkin as he talked and made his suggestion of traveling together. Amelia wouldn't mind, it would be nice to have a human companion for a while. "If you really want to, I won't mind. I'm heading to Raremine Town to visit the Old Tombs that are nearby, so it's going to be a rather long journey. As long as you're certain you wish to come along, I will not stop you. Just no sharing tents if we don't come across a pokemon center."

As Erika wandered towards the Frozen Cave, she found Joshua standing by the entrance. There was a hill going up to the entrance, and a cold wind spewed out through the hole in the mountain. The range of Mt. Chill above was steep and snow appeared pretty quickly above, even if they were still standing on grass, and this cave seemed to be spewing out cold at them. Joshua was fishing up a warmer jacket from his bag, when he saw her approach. Pikachu sat on the ground next to him, his ears rising as he turned to look at her.

‘Oh, hey, Erika!’ Joshua waved to her through a half-pulled-on jacket. Pikachu also raised a hand and waved in unison. ‘I’m going to be going in here looking for an ice-Pokémon to catch, but I’d also be more than happy to watch the princess of snow return to her kingdom~!’ he said, grinning at her.

Ewan was still training on Route 5, they could get him if she wanted to.

Anyways. With the assumption that the cold was no obstacle to her, Erika could advance into the cave. At first it was rock, but the tunnel rose, going upwards. It never really got dark, because the light in and the light from further into the cave. Soon enough… there was bits of ice, and the Frozen Cave started showing the reason to its name, and then… the cave opened up.

@Pikmin Eye

‘Trubbi!’ Trubbish called, relieved they weren’t going into the elevator. It eventually closed behind them, as elevators do.

Martin headed on, proceeding deeper into the cave. From here on, the cave was smoother, more friendly for human feet, but still no lights other than the occasional Heatmor. He kept going, until soon enough… the path split apart.

A six-way cross-road rested before him, and it didn’t feel completely natural, on account of the smoothness of the walls and the pillar in the center.

Forward was rough and untended, a decline down into darkness leading somewhere, sounds of water in the distance. Forward-left was very similar, but a single glance revealed water filling the cave, no going there unless he was sure of his underwater prowess. Back-right was notably an incline, the rough path taking a venture upwards, though there were distant sounds of impacts there, occasionally sounding out from far away or closer. Back-left was a dark, silent path that gave no indications of what might lie beyond.

Forward-right was an oddity, however. It looked intentionally dug-out, a road, straight where all other paths were curvy and mildly maze-like, it didn’t seem like it had been dug by Durants or Excadrills. Straight, as a path knowing exactly where it wanted to go.

What did Martin do now?

@Rune_Alchemist

The phone rang twice before contact was established.

‘This is Anise,’ Anise said on the other side, before Claire explained what the intention was. ‘Oh. Right. Yeah. I know where it is,’ she confirmed and then finally accepted the invitation.

Running back, to nobody’s great surprise Claire’s significantly more fit than Yvonne, who’d definitely start spouting royal complaints about Claire running ahead of her at a pace she couldn’t follow. But, eventually they reached Redcoast City, Yvonne spouting annoyance as she breathed heavily, but they could meet up with Anise, who had already made it to the restaurant. Yvonne and Anise got to meet one another…

‘Eh? Wait, aren’t you…’ Anise said, peering at Yvonne.

‘Hm? You know me? Already?’ Yvonne raised a chin, looking at Anise as if thinking that her fame already preceded her.

‘Oh, yeah. That makes sense. The two of you are friends, so both of you challenged the Gym and got Challenge Badges on the same day,’ Anise continued, looking back and forth between them. ‘… One with a significantly longer battle than the other.’

‘Ngh,’ Yvonne looked away, looking a bit ill. ‘Don’t remind me.’

So, the three ate, with the view of the town, the river in town, the beach and sunset(?). Anise didn’t usually eat at places like this and was happy to have food bought for her, and Yvonne still felt the pain in her wallet after having bought Eugene’s ride here from Infested Woods and gladly let Claire pay.

Then, asking about fighting-types.

‘Hm? Oh, where to find fighting-types? Mt. Strength is the big, famous place. Hector actually tried to set up his gym in there, but he was told he had to be registered to a town, and Redcoast City was the only nearby enough place that didn’t have a Gym Leader. The grass in the Mountain Valley, Route 4 as well as 11 have a couple rare ones, mostly due to proximity to the mountain. Otherwise, I suppose the only real big place around is Route 31 and Victory Road, on the northern landmass. If you go underground anywhere, like in Mt. Allmass, Chill, Edge or the Tunnel to Cooldome, there’s bound to be a few, but that’s the two big places.’ So Anise shared, nodding while eating.

Now Yvonne and her contest-plans, and when asked specifically about her Pokémon.

‘I was planning on simply moving in and securing my place in history at the Contest Hall. Stefan is my cool and clever champion. Jeffrey’s my tough, and cute for now, but I plan on evolving him and he won’t be so cute after, I could use a new one. Not sure what, suppose I’ll go see I find something on Route 12 or in Silent Forest. Jeffrey’s my first Pokémon, mom got him for me because he could both serve as my bodyguard and was supposedly cute enough to match me. He’s a bit too protective, though. Meanwhile, Stefan was… She sighed a bit.

‘Okay, so my parents are a bit of the kind to spoil their kids rotten. I was always intending on getting an Absol, on account of them being so cool. I must have proclaimed so a bit loudly, because… they got me one. This to both my joy and shame, as I wanted to get one for myself. Regardless, Stefan is now my champion, and he’s the coolest. Though, after that, I went off on my own to get some independence. As for my beautiful… Oh, okay, then.’ Yvonne smirked, choosing to give in to temptation.

Pokédex Entry #321 – Tynamo, the EleFish Pokémon. They move in schools. While one alone is comparatively weak electrically, a group of them can cause shocks powerful as lightning which they discharge in response to threats. While being fish, they levitate using the electricity they generate in their bodies and make their home in caves.

‘A little someone from the Unforgiving Caverns close to home. This is Joline. She may not look like much, but the show she’ll give will be spectacular. Especially after she evolves. I did my research and went there specifically to get her, and she’s excellent,’ Yvonne said, her smile and posture brimming with confidence.

‘Tyn-tyn!’ Joline called happily, starting to excitedly fly in circles around Yvonne.

‘Suppose I’m going to need to train her to evolution,’ Yvonne sighed a bit, looking at her third Pokémon. ‘I’m not really interested in getting that strong as a Pokémon Trainer, but suppose I should get myself a full team too just in case. I need more moves and options…’ Yvonne frowned a bit as she considered.

‘How about you? What’s your plan?’ Yvonne asked, looking to Claire.

Meanwhile, Anise is simply eating and listening, looking curious.

However, in case she heard Claire was heading east.

‘Oh, are you heading towards the mountain? Do you want a guide? I need to train and get stronger, anyways, I could help?’ Anise offered, looking interested, in case Claire’s direction and her most recent question were connected.

Yvonne wasn’t really interested in going anywhere just yet. Not while it was raining on Route 11, anyway.

Later on Route 11. It’s raining.

Connected areas:
Redcoast City. Right behind you.
Rainrock City. Requires crossing Route 11, but it’s a pretty well-travelled and safe road.
Route 12. Requires crossing Route 11 on the way north, also pretty well-travelled.
Pokéball Factory. A turn east on the path north should bring you there.
Abandoned Shrine. Claire knows where it is, she could get back.

So, yeah. It’s raining, but apparently that wasn’t a problem for Claire. She got some training in, she knew what she’d find here, she’d trained here before. Zigzagoons, Budews and Pidoves.

Ralia had no problem against either of them. Due to Poison Point on Budews, Ritz might want to stick to fighting Zigzagoons to not get poisoned, as Pidove could do super-effective Gust-damage. Del didn’t have that problem due to part-poison typing, only Pidoves potentially being dangerous. Same with Lure, who could attack on a distance with Gust and didn’t need to touch the poison points.

Ralia grew to Level 13!
Ritz grew to Level 13!
Lure grew to Level 11!
Del grew to Level 11!

Regardless, no Pokémon on this route was on particularly high level and limited experience could be gained, especially after matching Hector’s Gym Battle.

Trainers, however, there were a few. Claire got to challenge two. One was a somewhat panicked young girl near Claire’s age who didn’t seem to entirely appreciate the rain.

‘Awawawa! It’s raining! Let’s get this over with quickly so I can get to cover!’

Lass Jessica wants to battle!

Claire could return to the Pokémon Center if the battle took too much out of her.

Another was a cyclist, cycling through the rain with a grin on his lips, who happily stopped when Claire got into his way.

‘You must be pretty hardcore to want to battle midst the rain! I like hardcore! Let’s do this!’

Cyclist Eric wants to battle!

As the battles continue, lighting starts striking in the background (startling Jessica halfway to crying). All the lightning seem to strike at the same place, among the abandoned buildings.

Martin wasn't that happy about leaving the elevator behind, his mood lightening up seeing that Trubbish appreciated it. Bright fire, and fleeing Durants. At first, it was wild, but he was starting to get used to the madness. Up ahead, Nincada stopped moving again, confused by not one, but 5 more possible paths. Martin looked at all of the choices. He could hear water from one of them, spot water in another. Most of them he couldn't see the end of, but one that caught his attention was one of the tunnels was too smooth. It was flat, like someone made this personally. Behind him was an elevator to something, so naturally this unnatural path leads to whatever entrance Team Virtue are using. Or at least, that was Martin's guess.

"Okay, Trubbish, looks like we have more choices again. If I was on my way to the surface, I'd bet on the man made path. Probably someone at the other end, but I said I was getting you out of here first. So how about we go this way for some fresh air?" Nincada didn't seem to have any idea of where to go, which means nothing too important was happening. So Martin kept on going with Trubbish and Nincada.

Action: Continue forward right.

‘Trubb?’ Trubbish asked, sounding surprised by what Martin said, and then they kept moving. Walking through the man-made cave, it seemed like the Durants weren’t as keep on moving through here. Instead, other species of Pokémon were resting about. Specifically, tiny brown creatures sometimes sticking their heads in wandering who was walking through.

Pokédex Entry #50 – Diglett, the Mole Pokémon. They live underground and spend most of their time submerged. It’s weak to light, and will only pop up where shielded or in caves. They often exist a mere yard underground eating roots. They’re often raised on farms, because soil dug through by Digletts is left perfectly tilled for growing healthy crops.

… Though, with Trubbish close, they too fled before the stench, disappearing into their holes. They walked a bit, Trubbish following, before Trubbish started speaking.

‘Tru-trubbish. Trub, trub-trubbish! Trubbish, trub…’ Trubbish said, looking up to Martin when they had gotten a bit of distance, but the corridor was continuing straight for a long distance…

… Before either Nincada or Martin could potentially react to this, if they were going to, Martin could suddenly see a tiny flash in the distance. It was white light, moving. It didn’t take much to realize this was a flashlight, of someone moving the opposite direction. Darkness meant only Martin had seen them, not the other way around. Advancing onwards would mean walking straight into them. In case he didn't want to be seen there were no hiding-places in this straight corridor, and they would certainly feel Trubbish’s smell when they arrived here even should Trubbish be removed now.

What will Martin do?

Martin made his choice, much to the confusion of Trubbish. This path was filled with less Durants, being replaced by Diglet. Guess the only thing down here of course would be Pokemon making all the holes. His thoughts were stopped by seeing a light in front of him. He did it again, forgetting to stay alert. It looked more like a flashlight, which means most likely it was Team Virtue or some random person. "Figures that someone is down here already." He had a good team if they wanted a fight, but some of them were injured. Pulling out his Pokeballs, he wanted to be on the safe side, applying a Potion to Durant and Slowbro. Too late to try and hide, or go the other way. Trubbish gave enough of a smell to give him away.

"If I can't get away, then I better get ready. You don't have to fight, Trubbish, I can handle this. Nincada, hope you're ready." He called Trubbish back, to make sure he was safe. Only one way to go now, and that was see who was up ahead.

Action: Use Potion on Slowbro and Durant. Confront the mystery person.

❄Erika Olson❄

As Erika approached, the chilly evening air was a fresh reminder of home and even though it was nearly a welcomed sensation, it was still cold for being in shorts! Thankfully, Erika was prepared and had tucked away some sweatpants for this exact situation. She quickly slipped them on and with her legs now covered and warm, she proceeded.

Erika had managed to catch up to Joshua but Ewan was no where in sight. "Hey Joshua and Pikachu! I did promise to help you get an Ice-Type so here I am! But yea... it'll be nice to around familiar stuff again." Erika said, glancing up at the mountain. Despite already having an Ice-Type, she wouldn't mind having another one because if there was one thing she knew the most about Pokemon, it was Ice-Types. Speaking of...

Erika hadn't shaken the thought of acquiring a Dawn Stone for the simple fact of having Sno become a Froslass. It was her favorite Pokemon growing up since it was the main character in a childhood book of hers as well as Froslass having a certain mystique. Ghost and Ice. As far as Erika knew, Froslass was the only one like that. That was only one the reasons as Erika took a glance over to Joshua's Pikachu who was happily free roaming. It was with a bit of envy that Erika wanted to do that with Sno, too, but seeing as she was quite heavy and a bit sluggish as a Snorunt, she couldn't do it. With a Froslass, though, she definitely could float around.

"Hmm... I wonder what we will find in there. Even I don't know too much about it..." Erika said, leading on into the cave.

The smaller cavern eventually opened up to a massive chamber that was a sight to behold. The red hues from the setting sun crept in over the top and despite the decreasing light, the cavern had such a unique brilliance. It reminded Erika a lot of Cooldome in the evening as it had a similar effect. It wasn't just the ice or the size that was impressive but this wasn't just some desolate cave, there was activity everywhere. People working to dig items out of the ice but nothing quite as surprising the Wailord still visible in the ice, frozen in time. It was a bit sad to see such a Pokemon stuck and nobody making an attempt to unfreeze. But despite Erika's distaste, she was much to shy to bring up the point and become active about the issue.

Proceeding onward, it wasn't long before they were greeted by a cavern inhabitant. Delibird, another favorite of Erika's, had approached and offered them all a gift. "Thanks so much Delibird!" Erika said, patting the Santa-like Pokemon on the lightly before tucking the Aspear Berry away in her bag.

Erika followed Joshua in a bit as he inspected, mirroring his wandering gaze as well. However it dawned on Erika that the two of them might have conflicted goals in here as Erika focused in on the mining services. "Um... I think I'm going to check around to see what the miners have been digging up. If you wanted to try and capture an Ice Type, I can't picture a better place than some of these caverns. Who knows which ones are hanging around, though?" Erika shrugged, "But if you wanted to go off and try to catch on, I don't want to keep you. I'll probably be somewhere around here." Erika offered as she turned and proceeded onward.

She needed information, exactly what was being unfrozen in these caverns could be anyone's guess but it seemed even Pokemon were possible. To get a better idea of her chances, she needed to ask around but also check the more official places. As she made her way to the larger collection of buildings and miners, she'd start asking around about what people have found in the ice before. With almost every person, she'd ask if they know if Dawn Stones could be found and sometimes ask what Pokemon have been found. Slowly but surely, Erika would drift towards the Miner's Shop to quickly check to see what they had in inventory, again ask about Dawn Stones, before finally setting upon the Miner's Base to start collecting information there. She might even trying mining herself.

Dawkin Trustram

"Well that makes sense, after all, typing is the basic foundation of creating a team and battling competitively." Dawkin said. "Let's see... Raremine town hm?" She was right, it was a bit of a trek. However, as Dawkin had said, he really didn't have much else in the way of plans. He laughed a little at her tent comment, "Of course not, I wouldn't dream of intruding on you in such a fashion. In terms of leaving though, do you plan on going after your clothes finish washing or do you plan on spending the night here and leaving in the morning?" Given the trek was quite long compared to the other routes he'd been on if they started now it was unlikely that they'd be able to make it there before nightfall and he would prefer to sleep in a warm bed indoors.

@Pikmin Eye

The potions mostly restored the health of Durant and Slowpoke. They’re now mostly fine.

‘Trubb-!?’ Trubbish made a brief statement as the light came closer, but then stood still and made a stand, seeing how Martin had decided to do so.

As the light came closer it became apparent that this was not one person. This was several people and a wagon on wheels. The person in front was holding a flashlight, shining it forward and eventually finding Martin. With the light shining right at him, it was impossible to make out any details.

‘Oh? A trainer?’ The voice was female and smooth, and played on a line where it was hard to distinguish between kindness and condescension. ‘How rare.’

She made a few hand-gestures, and the wagon behind her stopped. She turned off the flashlight and several weaker lights were lit on the cart in every direction, brightening the area to the brightness of a normal room, revealing Martin and the people he was looking at.

The cart was square, layered by multiple grey boxes built specifically to be stacked and also hide what they contained within from outside eyes. The wheels under were pretty large, intended to manage some tricky terrain, but it could only be moved by manpower. Manpower clearly provided by the five casually-clothed grunts standing around it and pushing it, who had been given a pause by Martin’s meddling. On top of the cart were five backpacks, that clearly had been placed there in preference of wearing them.

While all six individuals were casually clothed, it wasn’t hard to see through whatever disguise they were intending. For one, the five backpacks were of three different models, and two of the bags were the same model that Martin had earlier found on the earlier ruined campsite. For the second, Martin might recognize the person in front.

The woman was lightly brown-skinned, with long freely-hanging similarly brown hair. There was grace and power in her posture, the eyes of an experienced woman used to being in-charge. Right now, she was in casual wear, a black jumper on her upper body and plain blue jeans on her legs, boots on her feet. But, Martin might remember her in a completely different attire.

… Back in Goldshore Town, she wasn’t one who actually went forth and talked to the workers. She had probably never personally spoken to a citizen of the town. However, it was fairly easy to know when she was coming, it was when all the Team Virtue members suddenly became clean-freaks trying to desperately make everything look as good as possible and get the next shipment ready in record time before she arrived. She only ever inspected the place from a distance, but it was clear all other Team Virtue members borderline feared her. Whoever she is, she’s a big deal in the team.

And here she is, escorting a cart in the Vast Underground, in casual attire.

The woman inspected Martin and his Pokémon.

‘A Trubbish to keep the monsters at bay, and a Nincada to guide the way. Smart,’ she remarked, sounding decently pleased by his set-up. If she was at all bothered by Trubbish’s scent, she didn’t show it. ‘Still, walking through the Vast Underground without a light has to be scary for one so young. Are you lost?’

… As mentioned, it was difficult to discern if her tone was kind or condescending. Trubbish looked frightened, but stood its ground without hiding. The grunts by the cart (besides looking thankful to get a break) were looking over the woman and Martin, also showing signs of doubts and fear.

Okay. Now what would Martin do/say?

@Pirouette

‘Deli~!’ Delibird was happy to be petted before walking off.

‘Hm, alright, then,’ Joshua said, nodding. ‘I’ll go on ahead and see if I can find an ice-type to catch. Don’t leave without me! It’d break my heart~’ he said, making a dramatic gesture of one hand on his forehead and another on his heart before he stepped backwards and then slunk deeper into the cave.

So, Erika was taking an interest in the mining. Walking into the encampment, Erika will note the miners all look pretty happy. Like something good has happened.

‘Oh, fresh young blood! It’s good to see that here. Yeah, we find all kinds of things here! Sometimes it’s fossils, sometimes it’s special rocks of different kinds, and sometimes whole Pokémon are frozen solid in the ice! Strangely, they come to life when we melt or hack them out. They must be, like, perfectly preserved. I wonder how long they’ve been there?’
‘You’re here at a good time! We got one massive haul today! It’s more than we usually get in weeks! Check the store, it’s unusually loaded!’
‘Beyond the mines is the Frozen Cave proper. Careful if you go there. Those tunnels are slippery, if you’re not prepared you might slide down somewhere you can’t come back from! Still, if you’re ever in trouble and have no Escape Ropes, just follow a Delibird. They’ll keep you fed and escort you out.’
‘Dawn Stones? Well, er, we occasionally find such here. I don’t know if we found one today, I’m afraid. But hey, check the Stone Store in Raremine Town, otherwise. As long as you have the cash, they should have some. If the collectors haven’t bought them out, anyways.’
‘The fossils found here or in the Desert Mines can be taken to the Research Lab in Raremine Town to have the Pokémon revived. Isn’t it odd? We can bring Pokémon who died and became fossils thousands of years ago back, yet we’re powerless trying to do the same with the recently dead…’

Having talked to a few individuals, she then made her way to the Miner’s Base. That particular place was one of those actually constructed houses high above the other buildings, with a lift going directly to it. There, she could see miners discussing placements, where people would mine, and such. So, she asked about mining.

‘Eh, you wanna mine?’ A large miner that looked in-charge asked her, smirking. ‘Alright. So, we have some heavy equipment here, pickaxes and drills and saws to get through the ice. We also employ fighting- or fire-type Pokémon to help us unearth the walls of ice. Ice is rather easy to mine, and lots of things are frozen into the walls. We have maps with markers telling where people are already working, so you can tell me and I’ll send you somewhere we think might be productive with whatever equipment you want. Anything you find is yours to keep, or you can sell it to us and we’ll sell it in the Miner’s Shop in turn. What isn’t sold there is usually sent to Raremine Town. Oh, and if you find a Pokémon you don’t want, tell us and we’ll mark it, then someone who wants it can come and heat it out. That’s about it. So how about it?’

She doesn’t have to decide right now. Instead, she could go over and check the Miner’s Shop nearby. One miner’s trash could be wanted by another miner or just a traveller. She peeked into the store, looking over the items for sale. However, another surprise was awaiting her in here. For the person across the counter was a familiar face. Not a supremely familiar face, but a familiar face regardless.

‘Erika? That you?’

It was just a hiker. Except this particular hiker is Isaac the Hiker, an old friend of Erika’s mother. He tends to take extended trips away from his home in Cooldome City but occasionally comes over for tea and recounting old stories. Erika might recall he sometimes recounting working in mines, but perhaps them being THESE mines may have escaped her.

‘Oh, my. It IS you! Out on your journey already? My, time goes fast!’ Isaac reflected with a great smile. ‘I feel like this is worth a celebration.’ So he said, and looked down at the items for sale.

‘Hey, you know what? Pick one item here that you’d like. I’ll buy it for you with my own money. Consider it a late birthday present. Ho-ho.’ Not that he ever actually got Erika presents, he wasn’t THAT close, but nonetheless that worked as an excuse for him.

Connected areas:
Route 5. Exit the mines and you’ll be right there.
Frozen Cave. The Frozen Cave proper awaits beyond the mine.

In case they head out for Route 5 again, on the way towards Route 6, which they would if they’re heading for Raremine Town eventually. Unless they’re taking a different route, of course. Just so you don't have to take post's worth of a break in Route 5 if you have nothing to do there.

Connected areas:
Lakewatch Town. On the south-west of the route, Lakewatch Town lies adjacent to the lake on the road to the Wet Caverns.
Stillwood Village. In the north lies the forest which hides the village, Mt. Strength lying behind it..
Route 6. Vast plains start in the south-east, this route leads towards Raremine Town.
Frozen Cavern. After an incline up to the ridge of Mt. Chill, a cavern of ice could guide the way to Route 9 and Cooldome City.
Endless Forest. To the south, a dark forest looms. There are no indications as to why you’d ever want to go there.
