he has a few books on alchemy, herbs, basic transmutation, and a few spell books that look to contain much in the way of utility and or defense but no offence. you notice the merchant keeps a friendly smile and is helpful with the other customers, giving them fair prices

I decide to grab a copy of each book, mostly the spell books. "Michael could make use if these..." I think to myself. "How much for these books?" I ask.
