Do you join RPs because people you like are interested in it?

Everyone knows that if there's someone you don't like in an RP/Int Check, its less likely you'll join. On the flip side to that however, do/have you ever join an RP/Int Check because there's someone you like in that RP or does their presence not affect you at all and is just an added bonus.

Maybe sometimes, but if that RP is uninteresting in and of itself, then no one there will make me interested enough to join it.

The RP itself is 99% of the decision. I've grown much more picky, so my even if the people I'd most like to RP with were all in one thread, I'd say nope if the concept doesn't click.

Not really, it's the concept that draws me in, not the RP'ers. In fact, I prefer to RP with new people when possible in order to keep things fresh. Case in point, I was part of a PnP group and we ran various campaigns using different systems (D&D 4th & 5th Ed, Savage Worlds, Edge of the Empire, etc) over a period of 6 years. These were some exceptional RP'ers, but we eventually reached a point where it was pretty predictable. Sure, we made new and different characters every time, but I knew the people themselves so well that I had a pretty good idea of what was going to go down in the RP beforehand.

That's a pretty extreme example, I agree, but I've fallen into the same trap in forum RP as well. It's always great fun to write with trusted people, but you just grow too comfortable after a while, know what I'm saying?

That is a tricky question. I am more likely to look at an Rp run by someone that I know that I am someone I don't. Why? Simply because I am better acquainted with their Gming strategy. Does that mean I will join it? No, it has to be something I am craving and looking forward to being a part of the story. (It takes a lot for me to join an Rp I am not running personally.)

Now, I am mixed to who joins an RP I am hosting. I love having a core group that I know and I can trust. Reason? I know they already know what they are getting into with me as a GM, I am not an easy person to have as a GM. Plus I know I can trust them to not try to pull any BS - Godmodding, metagaming, bunnying, etc. I do enjoy fresh faces in an RP, but I like it to trickle in instead of being a flood of completely new people. If I can get 1-2 new faces for every 4-5 trusted core Rpers, then I am good. Sure, it is slower when it comes to meeting new people but it works for me overall.

It's probably happened once or twice and went something along the lines of this...

- Sees interest check
- Drops a "Interested" Post
- Sees a friend also drop a post
- "OMFG! You gonna join this too? This is AWESOME!!!!!"
- OOC has started
- "Let's create some wicked ass characters!!!"
- RP starts
- Places up a post
- "This is gonna be great!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
...
...
...
- GM Drops soon after starting the RP
- "Noooooooooooooooooooo"

So in summary, it's an advantage because you know the people you are RPing with and I know I can get along with them fine. I just wouldn't join an RP simply for that basis alone. If I'm not interested fully in the storyline and theme, I'm not going to present a half arsed effort just to play along with friends.

Yeah, someone I know and like being in a RP makes me more likely to join it. If I see someone I know is a good role player in a RP, I'd like to RP with them. I thought this was obvious until seeing the answers, lol.

I like to stick with people I know, largely because I know what to expect and a game has a better chance of surviving.

It doesn't mean I don't like roleplaying with new people, but if this is going to be something I intend to spend months if not years in, I like to give myself the best chance possible.

The roleplay itself decides if I am interested, if there's a friend in it it's just more likely I'll join it. I mean, depending on the friend. If the person is trill as fuck but a bad writer I might just pass.

I'm always more interested in concept over people. I enjoy roleplaying with new people, but of course I love roleplaying with people i already know. Mostly it's concept + do i feel comfortable here that'll help me place/not place interest.

Generally I find you'll just have the same taste as people who are in rps with you, so you'll see them in familiar places as an added bonus <3
