One hundred years ago everything changed. The Mages decided it's time to do something that is impossible , to be Gods. 'Thus has started and ended the reign of the Magi. The other races didn't accepted their claim of Godhood and they rebelled against the Magi. Soon after the Warrior Guild was created , now called the Empire. After 70 years of fighting they won the war and enslaved the Magi , killing those of them that were too powerful to be left alive and destroying almost all the inventions made by them. The Empire enacted the Citadel 75 years after the war. The mages since they are detected with magical talent are sent to the Citadel. An anti-magic prison of sorts. Every 6 years a few mages ( 1/8 of the population ) are allowed to study to casts spells for the kingdom when needed. If a mage gathers too much power / too much knowledge he is sent to the Death Row and killed. The mages that are not selected are kept in magic-dampering cells. Now 100 years later evil threatens the Empire again...
520 BMW ( Before Mage War ) - A group of the most talented Magi met in Boralis's Library to discuss the face of the world. After a week of talking , they decided it's time to challenge the Gods themselves and cast the most complex spell ever.
521 BMW - A year later diseases and monsters started to roam the lands. People gone to the Magi to help but were sent away or killed on the spot.
522 BMW - The attacks continued and in December The Warrior Guild was enacted. The Magi soon started to loose power to the Warrior Guild
523 BMW - The Human capital has been attacked by unknown monsters and everyone in the city was killed. The Magi didn't do anything to stop the attack. People started to understand who was behind the attacks.
525 BMW - The Warrior Guild started to gain more and more influence as the attacks became more deadly than before and entire cities were erased. The same year the Magi sent an army to kill the Warrior Guild's leader. The attack failed and at the end of the year , the Magi War started.
595 BMW - 70 years later the Magi lost most of their cities to the united races of the Warrior Guild. Too many casualties were taken by the Warrior Guild. Something had to be done to win the war otherwise they would soon loose even if they took most of the Magi cities.
596 BMW - An attack of the Magi Capital city of Boralis was deemed necessary to win the war against the Magi.
597 BMW - The siege of Boralis began but the Magi left in the city didn't need food nor water and their defenses could withstand years of fighting. Years the the Warrior Guild didn't have.
598 BMW - A plan was conceived to end the siege of Boralis. Now the biggest and bloodiest fight in the recorded history. A low ranking soldier devised a plan to destroy the Magi's biggest weapon , the Amulet of Dala'radan. The Magi's source of infinite power. An attack on the Boralis was followed by a infiltration team sent to take the destroy the Amulet. Most of the army was getting decimated as the low ranking soldier and a few suicidal soldiers infiltrated the palace and with luck from the Gods , she fought two Magi Masters and destroyed the Amulet. When the Amulet was destroyed an event called the Rapture happened. Magical energies kept in the Amulet exploded and destroyed a big part of Boralis along with the army sent to conquer it. From the ruins of Boralis a woman was seen holding a small Amulet piece. She was beyond saving but she was soon raised to the status of Saint.
1 AMW - The races gathered together and decided to unite against the Magi's offspring that still appeared.
2 AMW - The Empire was founded and all races joined it but the Kil'garen.
10 AMW - The Rapture apparently did more that destroy a part of Boralis. Magical Energies spread around the Magi territory killing or mutating everything in it's path. At the end of the year , the place started to be called The Wasteland and monsters appeared to kill those that approached too much.
15 AMW - After a few failed experiments with Magi technology , the technology was deemed " too dangerous " to be used and everything that was Magi related was destroyed. Many people were killed in the attempt to hide artifacts and such from the Empire's army.
20 AMW - Creatures started to attack travelers and such outside of the Wasteland. In September a large wall started to be built to completely cut off any access to the Wasteland.
42 AMW - After two decades the wall has finally been built. Manned by Dark Humans alone , it served as a protection against any kind of monster that would come out of the Wasteland.
70 AMW - A new technology based on the Magi tech was created by the Empire. A device that could be used to detect magical energies in a person as soon as they are born. Killing soon started as Magi were killed when they were babies.
71 AMW - After a few rebellions the Empire decided it's time to build a prison to keep the Magi instead of just killing them.
75 AMW - The Citadel was enacted and Magi that were found were imprisoned and most killed there.
80 AMW - Yet another technology was created based on Magi Tech in secret. Phylacteries that kept the blood of a Magi that could be used to track a Magi if he escaped imprisonment.
94 AMW - Rumors about a Magi "Saint" started to spread as wildfire in the Empire. A Mage that resided in the Wasteland. It was soon deemed that any mention of the Magi "Saint" to be punished by death.
97 AMW - Even tho' the Magi "Saint" was no longer mentioned in large circles , the rumors continued and so the "The Wastelander" was born. Bards sang about his "evil" deeds against the Empire and all that is good but no one has ever seen him. He became a legend to common folk that was used to scare children that didn't obey their parents ( something like the Boogie Man ).
100 AMW ( Present Day ) - A thief entered the Citadel's Artifactorium and stole the piece of the Amulet that Saint Courage brought back from Boralis.
Thank you for reading the small description , first of all. Now.
The story will be about exploring a place called The Wastelands. A place that was destroyed in the Magi War. This place is different from the other places in the kingdom. Experiments roam the land free and technology there is more advanced than the rest of the lands. Because of the magic ban , many inventions were considered "taboo" so they are not used. The action of the RP takes place 100 years after the war and many things about the war itself was forgotten or have become a myth. So there will be a lot of amazement from our characters when they see some of the inventions of the past.
About the magic. Every race available will have an a different magic type and costs of the use of that magic. Example : A dark human ( I'll explain each race in the OCC ) will only be allowed to master Black Magic and the cost of it will be probably life force. Their own or the others. Only the masters of old could use any kind of magic and casts the most complex spells that would need mastery of more than one magic type. For the spells themselves I will allow the players to choose only 1 complex spell ( only if explained how they've learned it because magic tomes and such were destroyed after the war and as I said. Magic is highly regimented by the Warrior Guild. Now called the Empire ) and 2/3 basic spells. More magic spells will be learned after they start the journey.
All mages ( of any race ) live in the Citadel. So...the mage characters will know each other. They are not friends but they are acquaintances.
There will only be 2/3 Mage positions the others will be warrior. If more people want to join , I'll open up more positions for the Mage characters.
Human : The main population of Mal'Gar ( the world's name). They can be found everywhere in the world. The Humans were known to be masters of the Life Magic and are only allowed to cast Life Magic. Note : Non-Magi Characters cannot cast spells.
Dark Humans : The Dark Humans are a tall race that appeared after the Magi War near the borders of the Wasteland , a place where death and diseases is as common as a house fly. They are big persons and have a pale skin ( the color of a dead man ) and most of them are bald ( both women and men ). The Dark Humans are the most proficient of all races in the use of Death and Black Magic and are only allowed to cast spells from one of those two magic schools. Note : Non-Magi Characters cannot cast spells.
Kil'garen : The Kil'garen live separate from the Empire being the only race that maintained it's neutrality in the Magi War. 'Thus they are mostly hated by every race. They are humanoid in shape but have a fur all over their skin , got a tail , green eyes and cat-like ears. Even if they live outside Empire territory , they still subject themselves to the laws of the Empire due to being afraid of a invasion. They were known to be masters of Elemental Magic , they have a minor affliction towards Kinetic Magic. Note : Non-Magi Characters cannot cast spells.
Elfan ( Elves ) : The Elfan have the second biggest population before the Humans. They were known to be masters of Nature magic and have a small affliction towards Life Magic. Note : Non-Magi Characters cannot cast spells.
Gargantu : Gargantu is one of the races that is not considered to be fully sentient due to most of it's population to be as dumb as a rock acting only on instinct. Once a few years a smarter Gargantu is born and is immediately caught and sent to the Citadel. The Gargantu are big creatures ( 2.5 m the average height ) with gray skin and big muscles. The few that are born with magical talent were known to be masters of the Kinetic Magic. Note : Non-Magi Characters cannot cast spells.
Life Magic : Life magic spells are used to heal any wound and condition that someone may had. Complex spells allow the control of unintelligent beings. Cost : A small fraction of the user's life force every time a spell is cast. A complex spell may even kill a person.
Death Magic : Death magic spells are used to wage war against everything that is alive. The spells most commonly known are Death Touch , Necromancy ( complex spell ) and Domination ( a spell that allows the user to completely destroy a creature's mind ). The costs of using Death Magic include the use of a person's life force or the life force or other living things around the user.
Black Magic : Black Magic is known to be used to create diseases and the corruption of one's soul. The cost of using Black Magic are the same with those of the Death Magic school.
Nature Magic : Spells of the Nature Magic school are used to influence the nature. Raise trees out of the ground or kill someone using a poisoned vine are spells that are common between the Nature Magic users. The costs of the usage of this Magic school are the following : consumes a lot of willpower of the user and the user has to see ( the one that the spell is directed towards ) and visualize the exact effect of the spell.
Elemental Magic : Spells of this school are used to influence the elements. Be it a fireball or a sudden hurricane a Elemental Mage is known to be a force to be reckoned with. Cost : The Mage has to be in contact with the element he wishes to influence ( to cast a fire spell the user must touch the fire ( it will burn him of course ) ).
Kinetic Magic : Similar to the Jedi ( this is just for reference ) powers ( Force Push , Force Pull ). Mages that master this Magic school are known to be able level entire buildings with a mere move of their hands. Cost : Every time a spell is used the user tires himself. Too many spells and they become exhausted and may fall into a coma.
Enchantment Magic : A form of magic that is only usable on objects. Any Mage can learn this magic school but in order to master it they would still need to study another Magic school. Costs : Willpower. The user may feel dizzy or have headaches after he casts an enchantment on an object.
Name : Race : Gender : Age ( 18 - 24 ) Appearance ( picture / description if no picture is found ) : Fur Color ( only if Kil'garen ) : Eye color : Height : Predisposition to Non-Magi : Spells ( be creative here and remember that a race may only learn magic from only one Magic school ) ( 2 simple spells and 1 complex ( you need to have a good reason to know this spell and not be sent to the Death Row ) ) : History ( all the Magi are sent to the Citadel since they are born so here you should write stuff like...how he/she likes the place ( even if it's a prison ) or things like this ) : Personality : Notes ( things purely for story ) :
NOTE : They cannot cast spells. Name : Race : Gender : Age ( 18 - 30 ) Appearance ( picture / description if no picture is found ) : Fur Color ( only if Kil'garen ) : Eye color : Height : Skills ( Sword fighting , archery , cooking etc ) ( maximum 3 ( life skills ( cooking etc ) ) and maximum 2 weapon skills ) History ( you have to write a reason why he/she is serving at the Citadel ( only those with decorations or from rich families are sent there ) ) : Predisposition to the Magi ( he/she may hate the Magi with all his/hers being or he may take a pity on them and be friendly ) : Personality : Notes ( things purely for story ) :
The Map of this part of the world
Map Legend : Blue Terrain = Magic ooze and such. Wasteland territory. Red Terrain = Red Sand. Purple Terrain = Dead land. Death feels as home here.
Notes about the map and it's places.
Boralis was the Magi's capital for as long as history remembered. It was there that the final battle of the Magi War took place. A big stronghold with automated defenses that could kill a man from 500 hundred meters away. The Magi fought to their last man but were finally defeated by Gregory's great , great grandmother by infiltrating the city. She used the army as a distraction , a distraction that killed more than 500000 soldiers in the first hour but one that worked. She used the underwater sewers and got inside Boralis and destroyed the Magi's source of power. It's big towers can still be seen from the entrance of the Wasteland as if a reminder that the Wasteland belonged to the Magi.
Once a city that housed men and women of all races , now long destroyed by the magical energies that creep out of the Wasteland. Before the war it was the a Bazzar-Village for all that wanted to trade in Artifacs , now it is only a shadow of what it was. Many of its buildings were destroyed in the Magi War and haven't been repaired ever since. When the Rapture , also known as the day when the Magi were defeated , happened and the Wasteland was created The Field was affected by a diseases caused by the magical energies that erupted. From a population of 100000 it has now a population of 50000. The Dark Humans as they are called now are known to be immune to this diseases due to being born there but anyone else has a chance of getting infected by one of it's mortal diseases. So , it is avoided by any non-Dark Humans.
???. No one knows of it's existence.
When Magi are born they start to release some magical energy. The Empire tracks that energy and finds the mage wherever he/she is.
Parents of a mage are killed as soon as the mage is found. Parents from influential families abandon the child as soon as he is detected having magic to avoid defamation , those that don't suffer a harsh blow to their reputation.
95% of Magi children are killed as soon as they are found. The other 5% are sent to the Citadel , a stronghold prison where they are raised and then confined to magic dampening cells.
Most Magi kill themselves in their cells because they cannot handle the isolation.
The Magi cells are like this : Everything is black inside their cell. The only light that comes in the cell is once per day when food is given to the Magi. The cell itself is empty with no bed and wet floor. There is only one hole in the ground that serves as a toilet that opens up once per day at night.
The only time Magi interact with each other is only when they are chosen to study magic at the library. Only 1% of the Magi are selected to do so every 6 years. The Magi that were selected before are killed and they switch places with the new Magi.
Magi that don't follow orders or become too powerful are killed. They are sent to the Death Row or killed on the spot.
If any new questions appear , I'll answer them and add them here.
Rules
1. No godmodding. Everyone can die.
2. Normal guild rules apply.
3. If you want to romance and do stuff. It's PG-13 , everything is ok 'till cloths go off then fade to black. Swearing is allowed in IC but keep it civil in OCC.
4. My word is law. So goes for my Co-GM's ( when they will appear ).
Nice I have a character I used in another RP and want to alter him for this story I just want to check if him being half-human half-elven would be fine. I am pretty sure the spells he would use would be in the life category, or atleast I would assume buffs do fall under life.
@Venku Hmmm...I totally didn't thought about the possibility of half breeds. I think I will allow them but...the babies will not be able to master any of the two types of magic. Even if they have an affiliation to both of them. They will only be able to cast simple spells on both of the magic schools.

Name : Aelar Starseeker Race : Half elf(Human father) Gender : Male Age: 22 Appearance: Aelar is neither exceptionally tall nor muscular at the height of 1.9 meters (about 6β 2β) and the weight of 90kg (about 200lbs.). He has short relatively unkempt black hair crowning his head. A square jaw and prominent nose are quickly noticed, but are even more quickly ignored on seeing his unusual silver-gray irises. His elvish blood is noticeable in his pointed ears. He inherited his tan skin from his father. Fur Color ( only if Kil'garen ) : Eye color : Silver-Gray Height : 6' 2" Predisposition to Non-Magi : He views Non-Magi as he does any Magi. His views are determined on a case by case basis as he knows not all Non-Magi are bad and that not all Magi are good. Spells ( be creative here and remember that a race may only learn magic from only one Magic school ) ( 2 simple spells and 1 complex ( you need to have a good reason to know this spell and not be sent to the Death Row ) ) : Rejuvenate - a basic life spell that helps the target heal while also helping reduce fatigue. This is the first spell he was allowed to learn as his job was to be a medic in case of someone getting injured. His second spell Nature Sense allows him to enhance his senses using plant and animals within a short radius, this spell was allowed because he convinced the guards it would help him when giving treatment. However he used this spell to observe some of the guards training with weapons, primarily swords( many of the people he treated were guards who were injured while training which is how he was able to be near the training field). History ( all the Magi are sent to the Citadel since they are born so here you should write stuff like...how he/she likes the place ( even if it's a prison ) or things like this ) : Aelar finds the Citadel to be a cage seeing his magic abilities to be both a blessing and a curse. He has always wanted to see the outside world and yearns for adventure. He read any and all books he was allowed to, so that he could learn more. He would watch the guards training and would secretly practice on his own with anything he could get his hands on. He was very careful about his secret training but he was still eventually caught. When the guards found him he had been practicing sword skills they recognized this and he was immediately sentenced to death row which is where he is as the story begins. Personality: Aelar is outgoing, and will even try to make friends with those who do not like him or have wronged him. However he is not naive as he has had quite a bit of experience with people, mostly the guards and other magi of course. He is straightforward but not tactless; he knows some things shouldnβt be said. He is extremely loyal to his allies and vicious towards those who threaten them. Notes ( things purely for story ) :
@Shadow Daedalus First Question. Non-Mage CS. He would need to be an elite guard tho'. Second Question. That will be the Enhancement school ( I totally forgot to add it , really sorry ) which any race can learn but to do that they would need to loose all their spell skills ( he will only be able to enhance weapons and objects but nothing more because that would make him too powerful and killed on the spot ). But...if he would want to make a complex enhancement he would need the help of the other Magi. He can make basic enhancements but to make a specific enhancement ( like a fire sword or arrows that steal the life force of someone etc ) he would need a Mage that studied the specific Magic school. ( fire sword = elemental magic etc ).
A non-mage character can use enchanted weapons or armors etc but as I said before , he would need to be an elite guard ( which you are ). Did I answered your questions ?
Name: James Blackwall Race: Human Gender: Male Age: 24 Appearance:
Eye color : Dark Red Height: 6ft 2in Skills: General:
Hunting/Tracking
Athletics/Free-running
Traps (inc. ropes)
Combat:
Sword fighting (Specialised in Dual Wielding)
Archery/Marksmanship
History: Trained since he was old enough to hold a sword, James is a veteran soldier and skilled warrior despite his young age. Orphaned at a young age, he was taken in by a retired instructor for the Empire's most elite soldiers, the Shadow Blades, where he was taught the skills of a Shadow Blade, choosing to specialise in the use of dual swords. He enlisted as a soldier for the Empire at age 16, where he was deployed to quell various uprisings and such. He came to specialise in Anti-mage combat, and collected various Enhanced equipment to help him in his role. He was been assigned as a Guard Captain *Need clarification on ranks* for the Citadel for the last 3 months and has settled into role quickly and efficiently. Predisposition to the Magi : Neither one way or the other, he sees Mages as a defeated people, no more no less. He does not spite them, nor does he pity them. Personality: Hard and professional, James has been raised with a disciplined lifestyle which is reflected in his outward personality. Around his men, he's hard and efficient. Around the civilians of the Citadel, he's cold and professional. He does have a softer side, but will rarely show it. He is also likely to avoid forming emotional relationships, but is more than welcome to partake in a purely physical relationship. Notes: He has collected four pieces of enchanted equipment thus far:
Mage-Breaker:His main swords, a Long-sword enchanted with magic cancels out and destroys other magic, the anti-magic looks like teal and black flames wrapping around the blade.
Iron-light: Long-sword enchanted with magic flames, useful for burning enemies or starting campfires.
Arc-stone: A powerful lightning stone inlaid into his left gauntlet, allowing him to shoot lightning from his left hand. Continuous use can cause him injury.
Ward of Light: another magic stone inlaid into his gauntlet, although he can't identify which type, that allows him to cast a protective shield in front of himself. Can ward off low-level spells and regular physical attacks, but high-level magic with shatter the shield and the backlash will stun him for a short time.
@Shadow Daedalus Looks good but... 1. Too many Enchanted weapons. Remember , people hate magic. He may not hate it but his superiors do. Choose two and discard the others , please and...all those weapons would make him an Holy Templar. He wouldn't be sent on this mission if he would be one. 2. Ranks :
T1 ( Tier 1 ) : Initiate ( Lowest rank , basically they are Jailers )
T3 : Templar ( Normal Rank , Mage Guardians and Executioners and occasionally sent in missions for The Empire )
T4 : Grand Templar ( Maximum level allowed for player characters , any higher and they wouldn't be allowed to join the mission , they would be too valuable ) ( Elite Soldiers. Sent on special missions and squad commanders )
T5 : Lord Templar ( Controls all non-secret missions assignments. Seen on the battlefield only when the battle is almost lost )
T6 : Holy Templar ( The strongest soldiers of The Empire. A squad of these soldiers can easily fight against 30 soldiers and win without a scratch , only sent on secret missions or when everything else has failed )
T7 : Ascended Templar ( The highest tier , he is practically the General of the Empire's Anti-Magi army )
So he'd be a Grand Templar, and would only have Mage-Breaker and Arc-stone
EDIT: I've thought of a slightly different backstory for him. Basically, He fell in love with a mage and rebelled against the Empire a little while before the start of the RP, running away as a fugitive until he ended up in the Citadel. Naturally, he is a little kinder/less strict and has a slightly more sympathetic disposition. I don't know which story I prefer though.
