@Masaki Haruna Well, I'm not sure what explanation would satisfy the majority. Whatever I come up with, would probably be questions since I'm not the most adept when it comes to breaking down the details of concepts that I've thought of. I've tried in previous post, and this is what happened.

Um. Is it alright if I dropped out? I don't think this is the type of stuff I want to deal with.

@KOgaming Yeah, feel free, man. I didn't expect things to turn out this way too. Kind of discouraging, I know.

@Zero Hex To be fair, I wanted to stick with the whole "magic interferes with tech" idea and hoped people would just go with it.

Well that's fine, not saying I don't want that or anything of the sort. Just saying that, personally, I feel Menhir's idea on how the setting deals with this would be more understandable and less convoluted, and better line up with the world you seem to want to paint since the start.

If wizards are actually victims, actually seriously victimized instead of just vaguely disliked, and also become far rarer because the modern world ensures that a lot of them don't actually develop the potential for magic in the first place, then it further justifies the existence of this isolated, specialized school with seemingly far-reaching global influence.

@Zero Hex If the majority shares the same opinion, I'll ditch my idea then and go with this.

@Letter Bee I don't know how you got to that conclusion, but No, please. That's the last thing we need.

I was fine with the original idea. I joined your game to play in a casual magical world, not hash out the fine print of what your plan is.

I just wanted to understand how the setting worked and suggest something that made it work a little better so this sort of issue didn't come up again but I guess you can call it whatever you like, friend.

No, it's okay, I didn't mean any insult.

Wow I...
I really did not at all intend for this to become such an enormous issue, I just found a bit of fault in Sodium's intro post. Again, I did say that if I was alone in this discomfort that I should just be ignored.

@ScioDunno whats happening, but I didn't exactly come here for some ultra realistic gritty grimdark magic world. ^^;

I did like the original setting enough to join in after all.

@GreenGoat, @Scio, yeah...I don't like overly grimdark for grimdark's sake; heck, even Mage: The Ascension had its own not-grimdark moments.

As did I.

Also, I want to reiterate that I really did not mean to instigate such an issue, had I known my disagreement with an IC post would have caused this much aggressive outburst I would have held my tongue. At this point, I am more than content with whatever verdict @scio reaches, although I'll save my next post until that verdict is reached.

I'm not sure how any of the suggested ideas are ultra realistic, gritty or grimdark in any way, shape or form. In fact, this actually avoids bringing up sciences the GM wanted to use to explain his setting, which would make his official explanation technically more of an attempt at being realistic than saying "magic fucks with technology, technology fucks with magic".

@GreenGoat @Scio
Actually, since I'm at it, Menhir's ideas would also be more internally consistent. I'm sorry but persecution of mages is a defined part of the setting per the GM, that it's reduced to "oh they just kind of shun them because they're actually superhuman and there's about a literal billion of them across the world" is just weird. It doesn't seem internally consistent.

Green your character's backstory is actually based around this element of mage persecution for crying out loud. The proposed ideas would allow the proposed world to operate as it has, just with a framing that would not try to involve quantum mechanics and make more sense in that it limits the number of mages, making the PCs more special, and better justifies the need for this school.
