Liam again saw the trainer who has been boasting about the Tentacool that was the size of a Wailmer. He saw another trainer walk about and talk about how he has been saying that this was the third time he heard that claim and accused the kid of lying. He pulled out a Lure Ball and tossed it up. Sure enough, the Tentacool that emerged was around the same height as a Wailmir. Liam let out an impressed whistle.
"Although, it probably hits pretty hard too. Just imagine what it'll be like when it evolves. It could get big enough to take down a building." Chuck said.
"I heard a story once of a woman who raised a giant Magikarp she caught, and it became an enormous Gyarados."
(I fell like this is a refrence to something, though I cannot place what.)
The trainer with the Tentacool boasted how it could beat anyone that was here. He closed his eyes and pointed randomly into the crowd, his finger happening to end up in Liam's direction. "I'll beat him with my Tentacool." He than opened his eyes to see his randomly chosen opponent. A few people gasped when they saw that the guy he pointed at was none other than Hoenn Region Champion, "Dragon Master" Liam Coleman. Liam accepted the battle and went to the battlefield outside of the Center. Liam sent out Jiriya the Greninja. Jiriya darted around the arena using typical ninja tricks and using Night Slash as his primary attack, while the Tentacool attempted to fling poison and wrap Jiriya up in his tentacles. The fight was vauge remanacent of something you'd see in Super Sentai, but with fewer explosions. Jiriya effortlessly won the battle.
"As I said to Liam a while back: overconfidence can leave you blind to the element of surprise," stated Shiranui, "And that battle just now proved it."
