Personality:
"Change of plans? Alrighty!" Helma embraces spontaneity, and is entirely okay with having to do things without any prior warning. She takes things week by week, day by day, hour by hour, and minute by minute. She tries to keep in mind that there is no point in worrying about anything but the present, for that's the only time you can change anything. Some might think that because of her spontaneity, she is careless and doesn't think things through first. It's partially true, but not always. If the situation is dire she will stop for a while to formulate a plan, but sometimes it's just best to do something, right?
"I'm just being honest. I really think you need to buck up." Though she smiles and laughs a lot, she doesn't make any effort to hide the truth or break it to you gently. She's not going to baby anyone and try and soften the truth. She's very aware of the fact that she's honest, and most of the time she is proud of it. But she does understand that sometimes it can get on peoples' nerves, so if she is in a good mood she'll keep her own opinions to herself.
History:
Early Years Helma's family was poor, but both her mother and father worked hard to pay the rent for the apartment they rented out. They had been married for almost a year when they decided to have their first child. It was a hard decision due to financial problems, but it was something both of them wanted. Months later, Helma was born. She learned to be independent early on, for since both parents had to work in order to provide for the new family. Once Helma was able to eat solid foods, she was often sent to a cheap daycare of to an acquaintance to take care of. She doesn't remember much of this time.
Childhood It seemed that Helma would not be the only child. When she was six years old, a little sister arrived in the house. Helma saw this little child as a cute and loveable, doting upon her everyday when she returned from school. But then things began to get more tense. Being young at the time, Helma doesn't exactly know why or how it started, but her father began to drink. It started as a beer or two in the evening, but soon the bottles began to pile up while the money disappeared. Her mother attempted to stop her father from drinking, but to no use. They were doing even worse financially now. Their family was no longer as happy, and often Helma would come home to find her father in a rage. Her mother, with much sadness, finally gave up on their father, and filed for a divorce. Helma was eight, and Alana would have very few memories of her father, if any.
Teenage Years The special number of thirteen came around, and with it things didn't get better. Some think that thirteen is an unlucky number, and for them it was. This became the worst stage of Helma's life and it was when the began to steal. She didn't steal just because it was fun, she did it for her family. That was her reasoning. Not yet old enough to work a proper job besides an occasional one time job for a neighbor, she resorted to stealing to add extra income. Actually, a lot of the stealing she did was because of her younger sister. Alana didn't have much, and was often hungry. Loving her younger sister, Helma didn't want to see her sad.
Sometimes Helma would visit the mall and see a pretty journal or pencil set that she knew Alana would love. It wasn't too hard to slip it into her bag, and lie about it later. Being still young at the time, the once or twice she was caught, she would act like she forgot to pay and was let off the hook. She wouldn't dwell on the stealing or pickpocketing for long, her mother's grateful face at the extra money from Helma's "new found job" smoothed over the guilt she would feel.
It wasn't hard to teach herself more about lock-picking, and about alarm systems. After a while it became a challenge, to see if she could break into a store or house to grab some stuff without getting caught. To see what things she could steal from people's bags. She even began leaving a mark of her theft, a card with a triangle printed on it, the base of the triangle black and getting whiter as the color spread to the top. Of course, everyone has to get caught eventually. She was caught once at pickpocketing, and had to be bailed out by her mother. This distressed her mother, but there wasn't much to be done. Helma got a warning and a disappointed look, the latter hurting much more.
Early Adulthood Then she turned eighteen. Even with a job now, it didn't pay much, especially since Helma was unable to pay for college. So the stealing continued. A wishful part of her hoped that if she was able to steal and sell enough, she would be able to pay for better schooling for her sister.
Helma began breaking into stores and rich houses with more value, using her knowledge of locks and alarms to help herself not get caught. She even learned a bit more about the human body and some vital points so she could knock out guards without killing them if worst came to worst. Admittedly, she was a good thief. But even good thieves get caught. Now 21, she was into her first deep romance. When she let slip one day that she had stolen a few things before when she was young, he ditched her. He didn't report her, for there wasn't enough evidence and the part he knew was only of her stealing while in her early teens. Helma was heartbroken, for if not for that mistake, she had thought that they would be able to stay together for longer.
Not thinking clearly, that day she planned a trip to a jewelry store. A big one. She had stolen jewelry before, but not from a store dedicated just to selling high end jewelry. The plan wasn't detailed enough and she hadn't looked into the alarms of the store properly. She had gotten the jewelry and left her card, when the building was surrounded. The alarm hadn't sounded, but it had been set off and had sent a signal to the police station. They found her card and identified her as the culprit of those many, many thefts. Though she had only stolen and never murdered except for one time (and attempted murder the night she was caught), the value of all the things that she had stolen before added up to big numbers. Plus that unfortunate murder. She was shipped off to jail.
Sample RP:
Standing there, she watched as the teenage boy continued to walk towards her without glancing in once in her direction. Thinking that he must be too occupied in whatever he was thinking about and that he was going to walk past her, she was prepared to begin wandering around again when he stopped a few steps away. She met his gaze, but only for a brief moment before her eyes widened and she looked somewhere else. He had amethyst eyes. That would make him the first person with violet or purple eyes that she had ever met.
Admittedly, she had a little bit of an obsession with eye colors. The colors that intrigued her the most were gray, purple, and black. A little distracted with her thoughts, her focus flew back to the boy when he spoke, though this time her eyes were fixated on a point a little way below his right eye. For she knew that if she made eye contact she would get distracted by examining his eyes, and that she would stare. That just wasn't polite.
"Heyo, young lady. How's it going? Visiting a friend’s room? Getting a check up? Or would you like to join me on an evening's stroll to the gym? Oh, you can totally refuse if you're busy though. Name’s Brent Roless. You?”
Five questions. In less than a minute. Maybe she should have kept walking. She raised her left arm with the intention of crossing her arms, before realizing that that was no longer possible with her other arm in a sling. As a compromise she wrapped it around her torso instead, just under the level of the sling. The gesture made her feel more secure, and more protected.
Right. So. How's it going? How am I supposed to respond to that? I don't think I even know myself. Maybe I just won't answer that part, except that would be rude. I guess it's going OK. I'm not visiting a friend's room or getting a check up. Now would be the time to ask him if he knows the way back. So how would I say that? How about this: I'm doing alright, thanks. I was actually wondering if you knew the way back to the... the... what's the name of the room I was in? Alright, that is not going to work. Maybe to simplify things I'll just take him up on his offer. And don't forget to introduce myself. Now let's see... how would I say that?
As she was thinking all of this, her gaze had lowered to the floor. A minute of silence passed without her paying any attention to him before she finally was ready to respond. Still not lifting her gaze, she opened her mouth... and closed it. Pathetic, she scolded herself. Just say it!
"Uh... I'm fine, thanks." The words came out soft and wispy, just passing for a whisper. Not at all like she had hoped. "Name's Sophia. Lemane. Sophia Lemane." This wasn't working out at all. After a few more seconds of silence, a tinge of red rose to her cheeks. "Would you like to..." She tilted her head towards the direction that Brent had been walking before.
@VampireOracle I read through this before, I think it was on my phone or something at work. I'm so sorry about the long wait time, I was out of town and just got back today. With this aside.
I do like your application and I welcome you into the city of Asbasta!
Thanks for accepting me! I was getting a bit worried that you had abandoned this, but now I see that's not the case. I've moved my CS into the character tab now.
@VampireOracle I'd never abandon this, I've worked hard and had the idea in mind for awhile, I'm really glad people like the idea I had and that's why I won't abandon this, I had some busy time with work then spent a week out of state with some family and my girlfriend is all. I don't have a laptop so that's part of why I couldn't do anything on here.
Glad you're still interested, this pleases me very much.
Just wanted to let you guys know that this is happening, I've gotten the feeling to write once more and I'll get the first IC post out hopeufully by tonight! @Shadow007@VampireOracle@Blubaron45@Grifter
@CrazyShadowy I will try to get a post up tomorrow, if I'm lucky.
But I do have something else I would like to discuss with you and notify you of. Shortly, on the 16th this month, I will be leaving for a month long trip overseas. During the first week of my absence, I will practically disappear. I most likely won't even be able to get on, let alone post. After that, I will be able to get on once in a while, but posting will be far and in-between, if any.
@VampireOracle Thank you for notifying me of this, I hope the trip goes well and if you can get posts out that's fine, if not that's also fine. If it comes down to it I might god mod your character a little bit if that's alright with you. I'd prefer not to just leave you sitting there and fall behind, even if it's as simple as say when a guard comes to check on you, just GM you to move with them if they need to move you around.
This said, I won't do anything without your say so on the matter, I don't expect a huge amount of things to get done within the first week or so, maybe some things here and there but nothing that would require all players attention as it could be game changing.
@CrazyShadowyYep, doing a little god-modding with my character is fine with me. If I'm able to get on but don't have time to post, I might tell you what I would have posted my character doing, to give you a little bit more of an idea what to have my character do when you god-mod her.
@CrazyShadowy Quick question, are the prisoners handcuffed until they get their belongings? And do they carry their belongings on the way to the prison?
@VampireOracle Handcuffed until they get them, they the cuffs get changed to ones with longer chains so they can carry their belongings. They don't get taken off until they are in their cell.
@CrazyShadowy Sorry about this, but I realize that I will not be able to post before I leave for my trip. Prep and all has been keeping me quite busy. I'll try to catch up when I come back, but until then you can do the puppetting of my character.
