He wears a dark red eye piece and has shoulder holsters for his twin pistols as well as a belt holster for his small knife.
Background: Trained in acrobatics and rifle shooting he became a phenomenon in Russia and while on a trip to a competition his father decided it wise to drink and drive. Nikolai sat in the front seat of the vehicle as it swerved out of control and rammed into another vehicle, his father was killing on impact but Nikolai was only severely injured. Shrapnel pierced his body from his right side and severed his spinal cord paralyzing most of his body. After recuperating in the hospital for many months he was eventually initiated into the Red russian Initiative program where he was given powers taken from other russian superheroes and transformed into a soldier. They gave him full use of his body and increased his capabilities as a soldier. Eventually he was deployed onto several missions with a team of Red Russian super heroes and soon he became the semi-public face of their organization. He eventually became romantically involved with one of his teammates known as BattleAxe. She did not care that his body was scarred nor did she care about his troubled past, soon he realized that them being together was a tactical disadvantage and cut it off moving to another location and working with another team. Soon he became an international superhero called in by many governments to help in times of crisis.
Reason for being in America:
Nikolai Luzchezck, aka the Russian's favorite superhero. He called himself the Scarlet Solder, a tribute to his Russian heritage. He was known by many in Russia and in Europe, some in America even knew his name. He was currently receiving an award from the prime minister of the UK for special service in an effort to protect a group of POI's in a terrorist crisis days ago. He stood at attention with the medal being put over his shoulders, he saw news cameras and photographers no one he cared about, he looked at the camera stone faced. He shook hands and walked off the stage but a gunshot rang out. He had a moment of shock then massive impact struck his shoulder, he heard shouts and other people screaming. A security guard put him over his should and helped him inside a building, Nikolai pushed his "savior" away and stood up on his own two legs. He looked at the impact hole in his shoulder pad and dug into it pulling the bullet out but only a small amount of blood was on the tip of it. Suddenly his thankfulness for Kevlar was renewed, he made it to a television and turned it on. Many news channels covered it, 'Scarlet Soldier shot at ceremony', already some had footage. Nikolai laughed at the tv with the man who had saved him simply staring.
"Leave me," Nikolai said coldly. Nikolai watched as the man left and Nikolai walked into a nearby bathroom and locked the door. He looked at himself in the mirror his black hair and his red eye piece, he looked down at his red and black armor, his chest piece and his holsters. He pushed back his long hair and removed his eye piece, he ran cold water and let it flow over his hands. He brought them to his face and then looked back into the mirror a green martian man stood there.
"Who are you?," Nikolai asked, "Was this your doing?"
"No. But I had suspected something like this would happen," He said in a deep voice "I have an offer for you. Join the team being formed in America, your monitor has already approved it. I just need you to approve it."
Nikolai smiled and turned to the Martian, "Why should I join? I can easily find another team to join."
"I believe that is not true," He said , "Once you were a member of the Red Star team but no longer. Hence the reason I am here, Batman and I thought it best to wait until you were working alone again."
"Why should I join?," Nikolai said coldly, "Last time I worked with a team it ended badly. What can you promise me?"
"I cannot say but I know you have interest in someone in the United States" The martian said, "A certain woman who left you for another. You could see her again."
Nikolai spun around to strike out at the man but he was not there, only a note was left on the floor. It read an address and a date to be there on, Nikolai assumed this was the place where the team would meet or at least where he would be briefed. He folded the note and stuffed it into a utilities pocket. Nikolai smiled knowing he would finally get to go back to America. To show the remaining members of the League he was capable of what he needed to do. He would finally see her again, his lovely Barbara Gordon.
On the day of the attack: He was in the hospital resting after an attack by the Russian villain Skovetch a fire thrower.
Since That Day: Since the day of the attack he has been continuing what he has been doing as he was not targeted considering he was a government sanctioned hero. He has attended many press conferences asking him about the issue and he has denied taking part in either side of it until now.
Character Aim: He is going to join the team in order to see the woman he loves but she rejected him last time so he could be easily rejected once more.
Sidenotes: Yes he is a canon character though only appearing in his own little mini series that was cut short by DC as it was not widely read. I own three of the four comics he ever was in and cry every day that he is not more prominent in the DC Multiverse. I have tweeked his history somewhat but I doubt it will even be noticed.
