--- Blood in the Water ---
The air was thick with the smell of waste as Caroline and her squad trudged through the narrow sewer tunnels. There was a large group of cultists set up in this putrid place.
*fitting*, Caroline thought to herself as she pressed forward, knee deep in muck. Caroline held her bolt pistol tight, her trigger finger itching. The cultists were close, she could feel it. The narrow passage opened up into a large junction, many tunnels leading in every direction. "Hold. This isn't right." Said Caroline's commanding officer as looked around then gritted her teeth "Get ready for an ambush!" She cried, and not a moment too soon. Cultists started flooding into the tunnels that surrounded the sisters, lasgun shots already filling the air. The sisters quickly darted to what little cover they could find mowing down the cultist in droves.
The bodies kept piling up, wave after wave of cultists being torn apart by the sisters superior training and firepower. But there number was endless, no matter how many heretics were put down more just replaced them. Now both sides had suffered casualties, the blood of Caroline's sisters mixed with the vile sewage. "This isn't a favorable location, we're pulling back!" barked the palatine signaling the remaining sisters to fall back. They had lot 3 of their 20 members, they didn't anticipate such a large group of heretics were hold up down here. But the Thrice-Pierced Martyr would not give up that easily. They were lead back down the path they came, it being the only one that wasn't infested with heretics. They ran as fast as they could passing offshoots that lead to some other place in this disgusting maze. Suddenly a massive hellblade erupted from one of the offshoots impaling the palatine's leg before dragging her off into the darkness.
Without words the sisters of battle charged after the bloodletter and their palatine, determined to save her and vanquish the foul daemon. All they could see was the occasional flash of a bolter shot lighting the tunnel, showing glimpses of the monster that was dragging the palatien to her doom. Then the shots stopped, it was obvious they were too late but they followed the trail anyway, they were going to avenge their sister. When they got to where the bloodletter had taken the palatien the found out there was a whole pack of bloodletters. Five of them, all with eyes that burned like coals. Both parties charged charged one another, Caroline wasn't the closest to the bloodletters and she probably wouldn't still be alive if she was. The fist impact saw another three sisters felled, cleaved in two by the savage daemons.
The battle was brutal, sisters being killed alarmingly quickly. After the party managed to dispatch two of the five bloodletters, they had already been reduced to ten warriors. Things were not looking good. The cramped space made it near impossible to avoid the massive reach of the bloodletters swords, after another two sisters died Caroline found herself at the end of a bloodletters blade. The daemon swung at her it's weapon burning with its limitless rage, Caroline evaded the swing and watched the hellblade get stuck into the wall. Now was her chance, she charged forward and tackled the bloodletter to the ground, she drew her knife aiming to remove the bloodletters throat and anything else she could. But as she plunged the knife into the daemons neck it sent a clawed hand running down her right cheek. This blow threw her from the beast, she looked at it dead in the eyes and watched it pull itself off the floor using the sword that was stuck in the wall. It's head then exploded and she saw her remaining sisters standing over the other creatures corpse. Out of all the sisters, only six remained.
Unfortunately for the remaining cultists, that was six more than they could handle. With a fury fulled by the passing of their comrades, Caroline and the other five sisters decimated the remaining cultists, turning the water red and painting the walls crimson. None survived. Caroline watched the city burn as medics treated the giant gash on her face. They said she was lucky, that if that attack was at a slightly different angle that daemon would have taken her jaw clean off. She didn't care about that, pain was for the weak.
