@Tyler HOLY FUCKING SHIT WHEN DID YOU GET HERE

I mean, uhm, hi there! Long time no see!

I am he who is one with the Guild; both everywhere and nowhere, absent and omnipresent. I am he who lurks in the light and dances in the shadows. I am he who joined because Wraith wouldn't shut up about this damn RP.

Glad to be playing with you again. (Hopefully?)

I want to say "neat" in response, but I'm afraid Gowi might scold me again. Glad to be playing again, too!

(Hopefully?)

@AndyC, I should have clarified this early as it would have saved a lot of discussion in the Discord but you mention in your proposal that you want to tell your Superman story without imposing on anybody else. Does this mean we should be treating your Superman as existing in his own timeline separate from the Prime Timeline of the RP.

Basically, is your Superman intended to be an Elseworld story separate from the rest of the RP? If the answer is yes, that's totally cool as in the OP I mentioned doing just that. I'm just trying to clear up some details that have the rest of the cast rather confused about.

Sorry for being unclear. Clark definitely does exist and will be interacting with the other characters in the game; it's just his previous past that's currently 'non-canon.' Clark will slowly but surely unlock aspects of his old life as he remembers it (Kryptonite, his involvement with the JSA, etc), and other players can decide whether or not they want their characters to remember those things as well. So, for instance, Superman might have a perfectly clear memory of fighting alongside Captain America, while Cap doesn't recall it at all.

@AndyC Alright, well on that note there's some other stuff I should clarify. The hearsay on Discord has said that Metropolis and Smallville don't exist currently due to Clark's change in the timeline?

It was all really confusing to me to be honest.

@Lord Wraith That's correct; with the exception of Clark himself and the supporting cast mentioned in the CS, if it's a major part of Superman's mythos, it currently doesn't exist.

The current status quo is that Clark doesn't know he's Superman, or that such a thing as Superman ever existed. He and Jimmy Olsen live together in an apartment in New York, working for an online newspaper with Lois Lane.

By removing Smallville and Metropolis, however, you're also removing millions of people. Including other heroes that originate and operate out of Metropolis, which is the size of NYC. I get and completely support removing the memories and knowledge of Superman/Clark's existence from everyone, and even Krypton as the public would never know of it without him, but to also rid two locations, one of which is a major city, I think is a tad much.

It's not necessarily removing all those people, just relocating them. The people who would have lived in Smallville would have simply instead lived in the surrounding towns; likewise, the potential population of Metropolis would have just spread out throughout whatever vague area of New England the city's located in, like Clark himself.

And from a purely practical standpoint in terms of the RP itself, was anyone really planning to have a character arc in Smallville or Metropolis that I took away from them? If it's going to be an issue, I can scrap it and work with something else, but if it's not stopping other players from using their characters in the way they want, I really don't see the problem.

@AndyC My question is... how? Smallville and Metropolis existed before Supermans appearance, so surely his rewrite from history shouldn't cause them to disappear. What about the town and city before Superman came to Earth? Did everyone abandon them or did they somehow get erased?

I think if it were just edited so that the places still exist, without any trace of Superman, the problem would be solved. Seems like an easy fix to me.

I honestly just don't like the precedent it sets moving forward. It's a rather large impact on the world as a whole and it does essentially block any other hero who comes from Metropolis.

This would be my preferred fix. Whether you end up keeping Clark in New York is entirely up to you, but I would really prefer to have Smallville and Metropolis as actual places as opposed to memory fog.

Okay, so the whole idea was that as the story went along, the exact nature of Superman's erasure would be uncovered and reveal why places like Metropolis were erased with him: rather than just a simple time warp, Luthor had become aware of his fictional nature and (with help from Mxyzptlk) re-wrote the universe's 'story' so that it doesn't include Superman. Since Metropolis is Superman's city, if Superman was never part of the story, then there was no reason for it to exist-- same with Smallville: no point in Clark's hometown taking up narrative space if there's no Clark to grow up in it. But, because of Superman's impact on influencing the creation of all the other superheroes that still currently exist, the narrative structure of the universe demands he be there, hence his mere displacement rather than complete removal.

All that said, I don't think the concept is going over well, and doesn't fit with the way this RP world works. Since I haven't posted in IC yet, I'm going to just go ahead and rescind my application. I'll apply again when I've got something that fits the scenario better.

The idea would work as a sort of 'Elseworld' story which I'd be happy for you to tell but as you said it doesn't really work well with the greater world. Either way I'm happy you're going to apply again.

DEFILER OF WOMEN, BADDEST OF ASSES, THE AMERICAN VAMPIRE

"Sometimes the stories out there about you, they take on a life of their own. Even when you think one is dead and buried, here it comes crawling out of the grave, like I did. Evolved and reaching for your throat."
SKINNER SWEET March, 17 1850 ( 167 ) MALE CHAOTIC NEUTRAL

C O N C E P T A B S T R A C T:

A lot of Sweet's history remains the same, except for a few details that I thought were a little tacked on in the American Vampire series. He's a vampire cowboy with a love of violence and he's out for himself, plain and simple. His character may evolve from a borderline-sadistic sociopath, but no matter what, he's unrepentant, irredeemable, and bloodthirsty. There was an idea Skinner represented the American Dream to its utmost and extreme: freedom. He rebels against the norms, against vampires, against society and humanity, and all things, and he is all for change. The medium of Americana in all time periods. I think it'll be fun seeing this sort of character interact with the world full of superheroes and magic.

N O T E S:

WIP.
