Jon probably isn't a demographic expert and the North is supposed to be thinly populated. There's probably a million or so people in the North, maybe a bit less, and having that many people crammed into KL is surprising to him.

Point is, the definition of "mile" cannot be assumed to be equal to the statute mile used by the British Empire, especially for a setting most closely imitating the 1400s in setting equivalency.

If we go by the oldest definition of a mile, that being 1000 steps, and we approximate one guy's pace as 1 statute yard, then the mile is now defined as a whopping . . . 3000 feet. Nearly half of the statute mile. Then, we take your former assumption that half of the North is uninhabited save a few ME STRONKs, that brings the population density up to a generous . . . 3.2 guys/square mile.

Yeah, I suppose you're right, and that does sound a bit unrealistic. Mathematics, amirite?

Actually, it was given as 100 leagues, which equates to 300 miles. Presumably, they are using the same league the English speaking world does :P

It felt appropriate to me. What's gonna take down a giant ice wall? A giant fire breathing dragon of course.

Having the Night King pull out a horn and blowing it would have been even more out of left field.

It reminds me that I'm planning on fleshing out the White Walkers a bit more in this story.

So, I am a bit confused. Evenfall Hall is the seat of House Tarth. Did he accept a matrilineal into House Tarth, with Brienne Tarth? She is the only living heir to House Tarth, so, in order for her family to continue, she would have to find someone willing to accept such a marriage proposal, where the children born from the marriage are of her family dynasty, and not of the Dayne dynasty.

I will run with it I guess. It will make for an easier transition for Ser Gerold Dayne to become Lord Gerold Dayne.
