The Guild: Main hall

"Welcome. My name is Lord Frieza, and I will be giving you, your introductory speech. You know, that long drawn out droll about how the guild strives to keep balance, bla, bla, bla...." The three foot tall creature began, his tone carrying a constant condescending feel, and he had the facial expression of wanting to be anywhere, but there. "To cut to the chase, you're all going to start out as Maggots, the lowest level of guild mate. Just above janitors, and farmers. Good job on that, by the way. You could of fooled me that any of you were worth much...But, I digress. You're all part of this guild now, and I'll tell you the rules for Maggots like you."

"Here's the guild rules for you all to follow, to the tee.
One. Obey the orders of your superiors. I especially, as I do not tolerate insubordination.
Two. You can tackle most situations in any way you see fit. Impress us. However, don't forget the mission you'd be on.
Three. The guild's resources aren't all yours. Don't go about taking all the shiny bobbles.
Four. Always improve yourselves. While you'll never match me, it'd be best for your health if you worked towards getting even a fraction of my power...
Five. Don't kill each other. You're civilized. Act like it, or I'll stamp you out like a bug."

With that, the alien lifeform ruffled though some papers, grumbling. "Ok. I'll be the leader of Squad One. Squad Two's leader is late to the meeting, and will be getting a swift backhand for it. Squad One is...John Freeman, the human. Rand, the armadillo. Nessa the....whatever you are...." Frieza says, looking at Nessa, confused at the creature that stands before him. "And finally, Faust, the other human. I think. Not that it matters to much...The rest of you is in squad two. I pity you, you're going to be under the command of a total fool..." He says, with a chuckle.
"With that, your manditory rant of rules and regulations comes to a close. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've far better things to do. Come to me if you find a mission you like, and I'll send you off, but don't come to chit-chat. The last one of you who did was in the intensive care unit for a week..." He threatens, before walking out, leaving the group alone, without direction.
Naturally, one can assume Frieza, is a bit of a pompous fellow, to say the least.

Charlotte frowned her way through the orientation speech but, given her rather short stature, it was rather unlikely that anyone would notice her eyes narrowing with every other word that came out of Frieza's mouth. She desperately wanted to make her displeasure known, to lash out and keep lashing out, but all she could muster was a folding of her arms to back up her frown. Occasionally, she'd sneak a glance up towards the others who had gathered for the speech, checking to see their reaction to being called 'maggots' and generally being looked down upon by this strange person.

The speech concluded rather abruptly, with one last threat for good measure, and the speaker leaving before any of them could say a word. There were all sorts of questions that Charlotte wanted to ask and, no longer being able to get an answer from the person who was put in charge of squad one, the little Witch raised an arm into the air, waved it about a little, and then asked her question to the Main Hall in general.

"Why did he not have trousers on?"

From the start of the rather short Orientation, Felix was unhappy being referred to as a maggot and the thought of being talked down to at all disgusted him. Though he could not deny the difference in their power, just from the feel alone, Felix could tell there was more than just big talk there. Felix felt small in comparison, but he knew he could improve and get stronger. Still, he could not deny the feelings he got around him, in the room he could sense several others with powers that dwarfed his own. Whether there were more concealing their power, he couldn't really tell, but Felix knew he had a lot of growing to do.

He instantly regretted the announcement of being put on Frieza's squad, because he could tell they would not get along very well in the end. While yes, he would remain respectful and stay out of Frieza's way in general, he still couldn't tolerate the idea of being led by someone so disrespectful.

Felix wanted to see who squad two's leader was however, maybe they were more respectful, or perhaps equally as arrogant. It was to remain to be seen. Though he supposed it didn't matter since he wouldn't be on squad two regardless, by the sounds of it.

When all was said and done with in terms of the Orientation, Felix heard Charlotte speak out: "Why did he not have trousers on?"

That gave Felix a little bit of a smirk. But he wondered if that was all that she was upset about over that orientation. He laughed to himself and spoke out in return: "Why don't you ask him next time you see him?"

He then returned to ruminating at what might come next, and wondering if the Orientation was in fact over or not yet. He had hoped not, having come all this way, just to be briefly talked down to and dismissed.

Ravin waited for Frieza to leave before looking around and bursting out in laughter.
The surprise and discomfort on people's faces upon being called maggots, as well as a question about trousers amused him greatly. Felix's suggestion to Charlotte to 'ask Frieza next time' annoyed him, though. Had this guy not listened to Frieza's speech at all? Normally Ravin would make a scene about it, but since it was day 1 he decided not to. Besides, he would be working under Frieza, so it was his funeral, really.

To Charlotte he responded; "Well, you see, 'Lord' Frieza is very confident about his body. But that aside, it seems we'll be on team 2 together. The name's Ravin Driver, what's yours, little miss? and extended his hand, as was common when introducing oneself. "Can't help but wonder, though. Who would our team-leader be, and what did he do to be considered a fool by Frieza?"

The suggestion of simply asking where his trousers were caused Charlotte to pause for thought. The truth was that she knew asking would draw his ire, and if Frieza was telling the truth also, that'd probably not end well for the little Witch. The last thing that Charlotte could recall, before the bizarre string of events that culminated in winding up here, was a fight that was not going well. Getting into another fight so soon wasn't a particularly appealing option, but neither was admitting that Frieza scared her a little.

"We can find him trousers, little boys lose their trousers sometimes."

With that matter settled for the time being, Charlotte turned her attention fully to Ravin Driver. He was old. He looked normal. It was going to take some time to adjust to this. As Ravin extended a hand down to her, she carefully reached out to gently shake it through the over-sized sleeves of her outfit, before just as quickly letting go of the hand again. Something wasn't right here.

"Charlotte. I hope the fool is nice! I feel sorry for Team One," she continued, giving a little nod up towards Felix, even as her rather cracked mind raced to identify what was wrong about this situation, "but maybe they will be lucky, and the Frieza will stay in his office, so Team One can play."

Without warning, a piece of striped, hard candy appeared, gripped in Charlotte's hands. There was very little indication of how it came to suddenly be there, save for a sound of a plastic wrapper being quietly unwrapped to accompany it's appearance. With a rather glum expression, Charlotte popped the piece of sugary sweetness into her mouth, and continued to think on the thing that was wrong.

John Freeman who was Gordon Freeman's brother was standing at the back of the group listening to the small purple alien thing's speech. He said that the newest members were called maggots, and John Freeman knew that it was a good thing because maggots were baby flies and flies were good because they were small and not combines. He listened to Lord Frieza as he read out the rules of the guild. Lord Frieza said that the Guild's resources didn't all belong to the members and that they couldn't take all the shiny bobbles, and that made John Freeman sad because he liked shiny things. Finally, Frieza read the names of the people in John Freeman's team, and John Freeman knew what had tobe done to defeat the combines and avenge his brother.

"I will live up to my family name and face full life consequences" John Freeman said and went real fast like lightning to find his other teammates, leaving an afterimage in his wake as he appeared to vanish from where he was standing. John Freeman backflipped through the air faster than anyone could see and landed in front of his teammates and said “we will do what has tobe done by us and become strong”

Rand nodded through the entire speech. It reminded him of the arena director before they killed him. The only thing this guy needed was another form. The idea made Rand smile stretching as what Rand had mistaken for a cupcake asked about there leaders dress. Rand looked down blushing though six foot nine wearing a togs could mean he'd step over the creature one day. The thought made him blush before the strange bending man moved in front of him. John's word struck a cord with Rand who smiled holding out his hand. "It's honestly a real pleasure to meet you sir. I hope I don't disappoint honestly I'm probably of little good here."

Rand smiled exploring the group keen to meet his new companions. He wasn't disappointed Faust looked like a very impressive man in Rand's opinion seeming to be thinking deeply despite the excitement. The young woman Nessa also looked quite strong. Rand immediately thought he should train to match there apparent speed and strength from the looks of things. Rand hoped that he'd at least be of minor use to them.

Nessa had on a small smile in the beginning of the orientation, but as Lord Frieza continued to drone on in his condescending tone, she began to look somewhat annoyed. She didn't appreciate being called a 'maggot', but it was something that didn't need her attention. She wasn't surprised the other did not know what she was, most people or creatures did not. When the shorter alien ended his speech abruptly, the star woman just watched him leave while slowly crossing her legs to basically sit in midair.
"Why did he not have trousers on?" She heard one of her fellow guild members say, which procured a snort of a laugh from Nessa.
"I bet Lord Frieza is quite exceptionally at encouraging speeches," she spoke to no one in particular. Suddenly turning around to face the others, she spotted the other Team One members and floated over to them. Rand looked to be friendly and rather strong, and John Freeman the human looked to be...interesting, to say the least.
"How do you do?" Nessa greeted, her tone almost like a chirp as she grinned at them.

Lord Frieza's arrogance was repulsive, but Ally kept a straight face, not showing any indication of being disgusted. Where she didn't much appreciate being called a "maggot," she didn't much care either. Growing up how she did, she learned which words to be affected by and which to brush off. Once he left, she heard the "trouser" question and couldn't help but laugh a bit. She moved to Charlotte and Ravin, overhearing some. "I wonder who out leader will be too," she said, wanting to be acquainted with her teammates before going on missions with them, "It seems like 'Lord' Frieza considers anyone under him a fool. I'm just glad he's not leading us." Then, a candy appeared in Charlotte's hands. Ally chuckled at this, not expecting to see a sweet pop out of thin air.

Saren raised his eyebrows (or rather, the part of his head where a human has eyebrows) at several of remarks of Frieza's speech. Clearly this creature held belief in its own abilities - whether it had good reason to where yet beyond Saren's ability to judge. Its choice of clothing was certainly atypical, as was its general biology and physical appearence. He was anxious to meet his squad's leader - whoever it once had been called a fool, but Saren himself had been called a fool when he had been allied with Soveriegn, and that had certainly been the logical answer, even if it suited Soveriegn more than it did galactic civilisation. His squadmate, Charlotte, made a surprising (though not completely illogical) remark about Frieza's clothing, before eating a brightly coloured form of human food... candy, possibly? Saren had not studied foreign diets extensively, but he thought this was apparently something of a delicacy among the Humans. It would be poisonous to him anyway, being made for beings with levo-amino acids rather than his own dextro-amino acids.

Saren was particularly unsure about having to work with humans. After the Relay 314 Incident, and Anderson's failed Spectre trial, he had developed a prejudice towards them. Fighting alongside them would not be something he was used to. Still, after the events that allowed the various universes to become linked, it became clear that humans were some of the most commonly existing sentient races throughout the multiverse. This might not be a coincidence, and with trillions upon trillions of them now in existence, how bad could their best be? He found out exactly how bad when John Freeman demonstrated his extradordinary capabilities.

"Saren Arterius, Citadel Spectre." Saren says, before realising know one knows what that means. "That is, I'm a government soldier charged with the defence of the galaxy answerable only to the highest levels of authority, with top-of-the-line gear and funding, and the authority to do as I choose in order to get my job done. Does that answer all of your questions?"

Ravin counted out loud "One, two, three, with me makes four, guess we're complete then. So, wazzitagain? Sorry Arthur? I think most of what you said goes for all of us, well, except the government lapdog part. Anyway...Welcome to the group. I look forward to working with you all" Ravin then turned to the other teammate that had just shown up. "You know, Frieza might've been right about our leader, he is darn late. Anyway, I think I missed your name, miss. Would you mind telling us again?" Having said this, he pulled a piece of candy from his own pocket and unwrapped it. Just before he put it in his mouth he pulled a more candy from his pocket and apologized. "Ah where my manners, do you guys want some too?"

Felix saw the piece of candy pop into existence in Charlotte's hand and wondered where it came from before soon after watching Ravin pull candy out of his pocket. Felix wondered to himself if these people were all magical candy goblins. But at the offer of candy, a delicacy so rare from where he comes from. His eyes widened, he simply couldn't turn it down, even if Ravin wasn't talking to him specifically. He knew Ravin was talking to his own squad teammates after all, but turned to him and asked for a piece. "I wouldn't mind a piece." He said aloud.

Most of the rest of the time he spent standing around, he was half expecting squad two's leader to show up, and half wanting to go find the missions board to do some of the missions Frieza had spoken of. He figured he would find out soon enough however and decided to stick around to see who the other leader was, even if he was labeled a "fool".

Charlotte regarded her fellow team-mates, still chewing glumly on the piece of candy in her mouth. Ravin had extracted a piece of candy from his pocket, and was offering more candy to others as they gathered together to try and make sense of what was happening. As pleasant as Mister Driver was, what with the handshake and the polite introduction, it simply didn't strike Charlotte as fair that this man would outdo her in the candy giving department. Directing a frown up towards Ravin, which could easily be missed on account of Charlotte's small size, Charlotte then held one arm straight out.

A piece? One piece? Is that all?

Candy began tumbling out from Charlotte's sleeve; it piled up around her, and then slices of cake, and then lollipops, and then more cake, and then pastries, and more, and more, and more and more kept flowing out until, finally, it came sputtering to a stop. The pile of sickly sweet foodstuffs was bigger than Charlotte, nearly three feet in height. This wasn't food to offer, or even apparently to eat herself, as Charlotte clambered up the food pile (triggering a miniature avalanche of candied fruit peels in her wake). Once she'd reached the top, she held both of her arms out towards Felix. A single piece of candy unfolded itself from whatever strange place this candy came from and appeared, held in the hands of Charlotte. With a rather disconcerting small smile, she offered it up towards Felix.

"It's orange candy. Try it."

The little Witch shot another look over to Ravin, hoping that the pile of sugary food she carefully stood atop would make her point very clear. There was no way she would be outdone on the sugar front.

"I guess you're right, you would think the leader would at least be on time," Ally said, shaking her head a bit. Team Two seemed friendly enough, and she really did hope they would work well together. "Oh, sorry," she said, realizing her rudeness in not introducing herself, "Most people call me Agent, but you guys can call me Ally." Ally was surprised to see Ravin pull out a candy too. In the earth she came from candy was extremely rare. She only had it a handful of times in her life. She was even more surprised when he offered some, "Are you sure? If those are your only ones it's okay." If they were his only candies, she would feel bad taking any, especially with their rarity. Faust accepted the offer as if they were easily available, which was surprising too.

Then, Charlotte poured a while mountain of candy and sweets from her sleeve. "What on earth?!" Ally exclaimed, seeing the pile of sweets conjured out of thin air, "So you're really magical, huh?" It was hard to believe someone could so easily acquire sweets, just pulling them out of thin air whenever they pleased.

John Freeman nodded at the girl, Nessa, although it looked more like his head was flailing up and down in a rather jerky fashion. He stuck his hand out, beckoning her to shake it. "Frends I am John Freeman Saver of Humens and its a good day to do what has tobe done by us and impress giuld leader." He said, though he was cautiously eying Saren Arterius all the while. He was an alien so that meant he was probably a combine, and John Freeman didn't like combines because they were from science and outter space and they put science on his brother Gordon Freeman and made him tricked into becoming Dark Man. The combines also killed his wife, who he loved like sun raise, with their lazer guns. John Freeman wondered how his son Henry Freeman was doing back on Earth now that the combine tower that was big like the sky was blown up, and the combines were gone and now that the humens were saved.

"Oh? Team one eats candy too? Cool! Here I was worried you'd be all serious." Ravin commented with a laugh as he gave Ally and Faust some candy, only for charlotte to spawn a ton of candy out of nowhere. Surprised, but completely oblivious to her attempt to establish candy-dominance, he praised; "Wow, impressive trick you've got there! You've got to teach me that someday. Either way, I'm glad to have gotten my point across. Sharing is caring, little miss."

Ravin smiled at Charlotte, then turned to Ally and Faust, still smiling. "So...You two seem to be under the impression that candy is a rarity. I don't know how things were where you guys come from, but where I come from candy is as much a commodity as it is tasty, so don't sweat it. Heck, if you ever feel in need of a sugar boost, feel free to stop by" the last bit mainly directed at Faust. Suddenly remembering Frieza's intro, a confused look setting across his face. "Um, Faust, right? Forgive me for asking, but do you know why Frieza seemed so unsure about calling you 'human'?

"Once. For a while," Charlotte smiled weakly up towards Ally, the Witch still looking glum in spite of the wondrous nature of making a huge pile of sugary stuff and the joy that such a thing ought to bring. Being called magical, well, it was correct, but it conjured up all sorts of rather unpleasant thoughts along with it. She could feel something deep inside of her growing just that little bit darker. Charlotte slumped down, sitting now on the pile of food. That nagging thought that something wasn't right kept gnawing away.

"Help yourself, please, Ally," she sounded a little distracted as she made the offer to share, but then suddenly looked straight back up to Ally from atop her pile of food, "Ally. That's a good name, for someone who works with others, right? You should have some sweets. There's probably something good in here."

Charlotte fished out a candied cherry from the pile from underneath her and crammed it into her mouth. It seemed to give her no satisfaction whatsoever, though after a second or two of chewing on it, Charlotte put on a little smile. Sharing is caring, after all. and nobody was going to eat shared sugary things that didn't make you smile. It was quite clearly a forced, rather desperate sort of smile, but hopefully it'd be enough to convince Ally to take some of the candies, or the cake, or the pastries, or any of it. Sharing is caring, after all, and perhaps one good deed, even done with a little bit of prompting from Driver would go some way to fixing this problem. There was no way to stop this descent, Charlotte knew, but perhaps she could slow her fall for just a little while longer.

Saren flinched a little at the sudden arrival of such an immense amount of candy - it was nothing like anything he'd ever seen. Was this a human thing, to make competition over generosity? It seemed a little self-defeating, since how can you both be genuinely dangerous and playing to win?

"I'm afraid I must apologise, though know I appreciate your generosity. I won't be able to eat that. Biological reasons." Saren spoke both to Charlotte and to Ravin, before making sure to point something out to Ravin. "And Ravin? We're going to be working together, but I've never liked humans. Your spread throughout the multiverse is commendable, and I will attempt to throw away my prejudice. However, I have no qualms with making an exception for you. Do not give me a reason."

Saren did not like Ravin. Did "government lapdogs" lead attacks on said government's centre of power? No, they did not. When Saren was younger, he might have hit Ravin. Shot him a few times, if it went well from there. But here he was surrounded by some of the most powerful creatures in existence, and they might not appreciate that. Frieza certainly wouldn't be happy, though how significant that would be was yet unknown. Still, apparently they had a nonlethal training centre here. Yeah, Saren would be using that one in the near future.

Felix was hesitant to take the orange candy from Charlotte. He wondered for a moment, since it all poured out of her sleeve if it was just manifest there or if it had come from her body, and the thought made him hesitant to try the candy. But, not wanting to be rude or impolite, he unwrapped it and tried it. It was better than he could have imagined, he'd never had anything so sweet before. Though it was a bit overpowering to him at the same time. He reached for another piece from the pile, a red one this time.

Ravin spoke out: "So...You two seem to be under the impression that candy is a rarity. I don't know how things were where you guys come from, but where I come from candy is as much a commodity as it is tasty, so don't sweat it. Heck, if you ever feel in need of a sugar boost, feel free to stop by"

And Felix simply nodded, and then gave it a second to try to explain. "Thank you for the offer, I will try not to take your generosity for granted. It's not so much a rarity, as our race simply stopped seeing a need to produce it, as candy holds no nutritional value whatsoever."

At Ravin's second response though: "Um, Faust, right? Forgive me for asking, but do you know why Frieza seemed so unsure about calling you 'human'?"

Felix was a bit more hesitant to answer. When he finally did pick the words he wished to speak, he was very particular about them. "Well, you see, I would be more considered a hybrid of sorts, human and machine meshed together." He paused there, as if he was uncertain of the words though, still trying to find the right way to put it.

Ignoring Saren's burst of anger to deal with matters he considered more important than a mere fit of rage, Ravin turned to charlotte."Hey, Charlotte, what's wrong? No need to be sad now, is there?" Ravin reached for his pocket again and handed her a piece of candy and a gold coin from his other pocket. He carried five around as emergency money, but he wouldn't miss just one, would he? "You might not want the candy since you already have... so much, but you're part of the team, so cheer up okay?" He said, dropping the coin and the piece of candy in her hand.

To Faust he simply said "Cool, if you want to stop by to chat, that's fine too. Let's get along."

Then he turned to Saren, who was making threats at this point. He looked at him with
disdain for a second. "Three things, Arthur. 1, I am an individual, don't just lump me together with the rest of the multiverse, 2, You don't like me? Too bad, we're a team so I'll just have to like you twice as much in return, even if I'm not a big fan of the government myself. And 3, could you repeat your name? I couldn't quite hear it and I don't think Arthur was quite right..." All this time, his face had the same, unchanging, serious look. Still keeping his serious look, he continued. "Now, I understand if despite this you're still a little bummed out about everyone else getting candy while you're unable to eat any. Is there something I can offer you instead?" After having finished saying this, Ravin's serious look returned to his earlier smile, he actually just wanted to get along with everyone here, or at least his team.
