<sup>Long ago, when the God-Emperor still walked amongst men, he created legions of the finest warriors man had ever seen; none stronger, none quicker, none smarter and none purer before or since. So great where their numbers and deeds that they conquered world after world, system after system, star after star. These soldiers without skill were the Legio Astartes, the Space Marines; humanity at its highest apex.

But even during the Emperor's glorious Great Crusade, cracks began to show. Quirks and differences in thinking that only divided the legions. Such could have been ignored or remedied if given time, but something sinister sought to infect the cracks and tear the legions asunder: Chaos. Seeping into the pure minds of the Astartes, it proved that nothing was beyond the corrupting grasp and maleficent gaze of the Chaos Gods. And when the War Master was turned to the dark shadows of the Warp, twas only little time until the the curtains were pulled back to reveal a production most vile.

The void was to be set awash in fire and death as the stars themselves cried and weeped. Billions prayed and hoped in watery eyes that this age would be but a passing moment. But their tears would do nothing to quell the largest civil war mankind had ever faced. Countless lives were lost, planets eradicated and wonders destroyed as super humans warred and fought and the galaxy itself shook under the weight of:</sup>

++ Introduction ++

Welcome to the Age of Heresy; the era of mankind divided. Inspired by The Grand Crusade and The Grim Crusade (credits to both GMs/authors), the Schism of Man will focus on the Heresy which followed the Great Crusade. Players will be making their own Primarch and Legion to fill in the 18 open slots available. (There are still 2 "lost" legions but they are now the 9th and the 17th).

Something that is very important that you must be clear on is that YOU WILL PICK YOUR SIDES AND ULTIMATE FATES. Basically, OOC everyone will know who will end up traitor and who stays loyalist and what ultimately becomes of them (dies, becomes daemon, fucks off somewhere, etc) but not those in-character. If you say "well that's stupid, what's the point?" then I'd like to direct you to the fact the Horus Heresy book series exists despite the fact we know what is going to happen in the end. I trust that people will be mature enough not only not to metagame but to also have their primarchs interact with one another according and NOT be plotting against each other for no real valid in character reason.

The start of the RP will be post-Ullanor Crusade and only two or three people at most falling to chaos from the get go. The fact that the Warmaster will turn traitor is something I will not be changing. The first event might just be everyone gathering around to decide who will be the Warmaster.

• Forum Rules Apply - Just because its the grimdarkness of the 31st millenium doesn't mean you can RP your throwing-people-into-jet-engine fetish or make thinly veiled racist comments. That said, this is 40k 30k so if you do push the line for writing bloody battle scenes or if you're chaos and its part of the job descriptions, just don't go overboard.

• Be Mature - Basically do not godmode/cheat/puppet/metagame/be a dick. Metagaming is especially important not to do considering we already know whose traitor and whose not and what not. Just, be coolio mate and use your common sense.

• My Word is Divine - My word and will as GM is absolute and I tend sugar coat things as well as Rogal Dorn does (so not a lot). You must understand that my goals and desires as a GM is fundamentally different than that of a player's to a certain degree; I still want to write and have fun, but keeping the RP in order is my primary job. The word of my coGM/s is also absolute unless I overrule them. In addition, I reserve the right to break any of my own rules as I see fit. My coGMs will be @Yennefer and @agentmanatee, the latter of which will be playing the role of Warmaster and Arch Heretic.

• Activity & Posting - I'm not going to force any "post X time in Y period or else!" thing, but do try to post regularly especially if you're interacting with someone else. That said, if you say "oh I'll post tomorrow" for two weeks straight, we're going to have to talk. Even if you aren't posting, be active and engaged OOC and what not, even if you just shitpost memes. As for posting quality, this is a "low advanced" meaning that I expect your posts to be neat and readable but not like a 10 page essay since let's all be honest, those can be a bitch to write and read. Just don't do like single paragraph posts and we're good.

• Character Limits - Generally it should be one Primarch/Legion per player, but if the need arises, I will allow players to pick up a "minor" primarch/legion whose there but isn't quite as crucial (Think Iron Hands vs Imperial Fists during the Heresy). That said, if you drop/go silent for a month, I will be giving your Legion over to whoever expresses interest since I can't just preform the old Squattage-ing on them.

• Have Fun! - Seriously, have fun, enjoy reading and writing posts and making characters! We're all here to have some fun, tears, gasps, etc over a rewrite of the Horus Heresy as 40k nerds and fans so enjoy yourself with other fans!

++ INFORMATION ++

This will obvious follow canon for the most part and have a similar time line of major events. This includes most notably, the Warmaster turning traitor, an Istavan V-like battle and a Siege of Terra with a potential for the Burning of <Planet Here> and the Schism of Mars depending on how things play out.

There are a few new concepts that will be present in the SoM, all lifted from the Grim Crusade:

Female Space Marines

In canon, Space Marines can only be male for various reasons, with the Primarchs themselves following this trend. In this game, however, you can choose between male and female for your Primarch's physical gender, with the rest of their Legion following suit. The nature of this decision, of course, will be such that men cannot be inducted into a female Legion, nor can women be inducted into a male Legion, since the geneseed involved will reject those of the opposite gender to their intended recipients, killing the victim and wasting precious resources. That said, whilst gender has a bit more of an effect for the Primarchs themselves, female Space Marines will likely be very similar to their male counterparts. To quote 1d4chan on the matter:

...[female Space Marines] would probably have very few notable female features left following surgery and genetic fuckery; they'd have very similar musculature to males, most likely would lack breasts (due to both the removal of sex hormones and the trimming of any "fat" that would make armor uncomfortable), their body shape would only differ very slightly to a male's because of their enhanced skeletal structure (though they would have wider hips, as women's pelvis' are wider than men's), and all of this would be compounded by the fact that Space Marines are renowned for wearing fuckhuge suits of armour that obscure most of their physical features anyway. A female Space Marine with her helmet on would look like a regular [male] Space Marine.

Conversion of Human Adults into Space Marines

Along similar lines to female Space Marines not existing in canon, viable candidates for Astartes conversion in canon must be around ten to fourteen years old, as the implants and hypno-therapy required will not properly integrate into their bodies and/or function correctly if they are too old. In this setting, the vast changes to the Emperor's biology from canon has changed this state of affairs, vastly expanding the pool of potential Marine candidates to include adult humans by allowing the necessary implants to integrate properly even into theoretically fully-grown men and women, as well as having the implantation of the Catalepsean Node and other brain-integrated organs slightly alter their thought processes to be more malleable to subsequent conditioning toward the ultimate mindset of any given Legion. This has the advantage of allowing human soldiers with many years of experience to be forwarded to a Legion's ranks, often with a somewhat lower chance of death compared to a child due to the hardier overall constitution that adults possess, but comes with the corresponding disadvantage of substantially slower transition from mortal to Marine, since the rapid-onset growth period that is puberty cannot be exploited to speed the conversion process along in an adult.

Psykers and Sorcery

Officially, the position of the Emperor and the Imperium on psychic powers is the same as in canon, i.e. "the human form is absolutely perfect, so no psykers allowed", other than the need for Navigators to ferry ships through the Warp, as well as a certain number of Astropaths specifically gathered for extreme long-distance communication. Unofficially, thanks to a certain amount of internal persuasion, the Emperor is actually a touch more lenient on this topic than in canon, such that whilst the common rabble will still be culled for being a psyker in any form, the higher-ups in the Imperium's ranks such as the Primarchs and their Legions are allowed their psychic quirks under supervision, under the "justification" that having more or less psychic power than average isn't technically an alteration of the human form. Thus, your characters will not be censured unnecessarily for utilizing their psychic powers in agreed-upon "safe" manners or being psychic nulls, unless doing so actually screws everything up on a notable scale (see: Magnus the Red). However, consorting with the denizens of the Warp is still absolutely forbidden, for obvious reasons, as is sorcery for purposes beyond those deemed acceptable by the Imperium and, ultimately, the Emperor himself.

++ CHARACTER SHEETS ++

Hey kids, here's your Create-A-Primarch area! Come now and you'll also be able to create a legion of killer super human soldiers for free! Seriously though, all CSs should be posted OOC for review. You can use canon characters as a base, but do not copy them out right. Bonus points if you use a non-human character as inspiration. The order which people submit their Legion will be their number unless requested otherwise. I would recommend you write it either "Wikia style" (professional and formal) or "1d4chan style" (informal, more relaxed and casual), although in reality you should aim for a balance of both leaning towards Wikia style to keep things interesting and fun to read.

Ideally Primarchs won’t automatically seem like the side they are on. Like how Magnus was actually an optimist who really wanted humans to progress and for knowledge to be free for all and then got Tzeentch’d. Might take some collaboration if you do it like this.

Create-A-Primarch

Name: Self explanatory; feel free to include any titles they might have after their name.

Gender: Self explanatory; will also determine the gender of their Legion.

Homeworld: The planet your Primarch was sent to via the Warp. Include its name, the biome or biomes present on it (particularly where the Primarch landed and/or was raised), the degree of hostility the world exhibits, and the sort of challenges the average inhabitant might have to face on the planet. There's a whole galaxy's worth of worlds out there.

Alignment: Are they Loyalists or Traitors? If Traitor, do they devote themselves to one god or are they undivided? Include the reason they picked the side they did if you wish.

Fate: Basically what becomes of them. Do they die in the events of the heresy? Do they live on to see the rebuilding of the Imperium/start of the long war? Where and why do they fuck off to in the search of object X for reason Y that all primarchs seem to love to do. This is more of a "predetermined destiny" but it can still change so take it with a grain of salt.

Appearance: What does your demigod look like? Describe them out of armor in text unless you can find a picture that fits. You may also describe their power armor and their regalia. Remember that no matter male or female, Primarchs are usually a solid 11 feet tall and muscular.

Wargear: Any special equipment that you may use. Remember, the Emperor's still around and the Heresy hasn't started yet meaning you as the favored children get to play around with all kinds of fancy, sparkly toys by throwing your daddy's name around. Just don't go to crazy.

Skills: Anything special about your Primarch in terms of abilities? Anything they really excel at or any mutations that might grant them some ability? This is also where you would write down you Primarch's psychic level; even if they have none just write "none". Again, these should remain reasonable.

Personality: Your Primarch's character traits, their positives and negatives, their highs and lows, where they excel and what their flaws are. Remember: the Primarchs are human, and yet far beyond human, capable of far more intensity than any mere mortal in all of their emotions. In other words, they're almost literally larger than life, and should be portrayed as such. Their most defining traits should be easily recognizable.

History: The story of your primarch's life before and after they were picked up, what they did during the Great Crusade and what ultimately causes them to fall to Chaos if they do. Any notable achievements should be listed here and more importantly, what the meeting between the Emperor and your Primarch was like. You don't need to give conversation but keep it sort of like a third person overview.

Relations: Basically what is your stance on the Emperor? Your Primarch siblings? Any other random people you have a connection with? Do you have any Primarchs you really like or despite completely? Remember, they don't have to end up on the same side as you do to be your best friend here and nor does the people you hate have to be on the opposite side. I encourage people to go beyond the Loyalist/Traitor lines here when selecting friend (who should obvious match up to some degree with you).

Build-A-Legion

Legion Name: The Legion's name. This can be its original name as described by the Emperor, or a name given to it by its Primarch after their recovery by the Imperium. Or you could list both. The Warmaster's Legion will be called the "Sons/Daughters/Children of _______" and then later, the iconic "Black Legion".

Legion Number: The Legion's number, in Roman numerals up to twenty (I, II, III, IV, and so on up to XX). Obviously, only one Legion per number, on a first come first served basis.

Legion Strength: How many members the Legion possesses. This can be anywhere from "merely" several thousand Astartes, to substantially greater than one hundred thousand units, and will determine the overall strength of the Legion in terms of sheer brute force, though how skilled its members are are is another matter entirely.

Armor Appearance: Using this SM armor painter, make the color scheme of your space marines, they haven't turned full chaos yet so they won't be having any of the spikey bits and stuff. I'm not going to be too much of a stickler for exact marks of armor and such, but you should not be having like Mark 8 power armor.

Warcry: What members of the Legion yell when going into battle, e.g. "Courage And Honour!", "Repent! For tomorrow you die!". A Legion may possess more than one warcry.

Important Figures: Besides your Primarch, who else is a "major player" in your Legion? This could be anyone from company commanders to techmarines or medicae or whatever. If you have a splinter force of your Legion who did not follow with your Legion's overall choice on what side to be on in the Schism in the future, this is where you would put them.

Tactics/Roles: Basically how does your Legion fight and what job/role do they normally occupy? Are they siege specialist? Melee champions? Ranged marksmen? Or something else? What kind of vehicles do they have and do they use orbital assists?

Traits/Ideology: How does your legion think and appear? Is it due to the Imperium/Chaos influence, its gene-seed, its Primarch or its recruits/homeworld? Essentially, what is the "personality" of your legion and what kind of look they take on that could take cues from real world cultures. Traditions can also be listed here.

Farrah, Shield of the Imperiun

Name: Farah Cusatis, Shield of the Imperium

Gender: Female

Homeworld: Kestes II, Designation Death World, a world destroyed by combat so badly that it’s surface is mostly bare due to bombing, now all that is left is the rare outcrop of land capable of growing flora, and raising fauna, even most of the water was tainted and undrinkable. Farah grew up in a small tribe where everyday was a battle with other tribes over their watering hole, and their farms. Every single drink was earned with blood shed. It truly builds strong warriors to live on this planet as everything done has to be done with quick precise understanding of the consequences that can follow no matter how small.

Alignment:Loyalist, she (possibly) survives the Civil war, and ends up taking part in running the new Imperium, trying to keep it's standards as her father wished.

Appearance:

She stands at 2.8 meters tall, with a powerful build and weighing about 219.085 kilograms

Wargear: Wearing a set of Terminator armor is awe inspiring, the behemoth suit of plate stands out all the more with the elaborate decorations that adorn it, showing that the wearer of it is more than just your average marine. The plates themselves are painted very dark purple known as Eminence, with tiger like stripes slashing along the purple in a shade of orange known as Tangelo. This isn’t all that makes it so different, it is adorned along the back with a myriad of colored feathers each about two feet in length, and hanging from the shoulders is the pelt of a very large feral feline with a black coat and yellow spots. Furthermore etched into several of the plates are symbols from her homeworld denoting luck, strength, and victory. Many times she can be seen on the battlefield without her helmet on, but when it is adorned violet glows emit from those lenses to stare out across the battlefield as she seeks to lead her women to glory. Along with her armor she carries a Power Maul that was built to an appropriate size for her terminator armor, and the fact that she is a Primarch. The Power Maul has a plasma rifle built inside of it so that the ammunition is loaded into the bottom and fires out the end. Further she also carries a Storm Shield of appropriate size mounted on her forearm as well which combined with her terminator armor makes her a very hard to destroy foe indeed. Her left hand which is the same arm with the storm shield wields a lightning claw allowing her to have a variety of melee on top of her shield and plasma rifle.

Personality: She has a strong reverence, almost to the point of Zealotry. Her loyal nature is only more obvious as she never falters from her orders given by the Emperor, or those given to her through those who speak in the name of the Emperor. Regardless of this she can be full hardy, and bull headed, especially in combat. She never considers the possibility that losing, or retreat is an option, she would instead instead fight to the last woman rather than ever have to report that she had lost ground, or lost a battle. Though she would put her women warriors through the limits in battle, she cares for each of them greatly, and considers them her daughters in the most literal sense of the word, being sure to learn each marine she meets name and match it with a face.

Regardless of this very personal attachment she has to each of her marines, she understands there will be losses, and instead of mourning each of these she finds herself honoring the dead by having their names etched into the walls of her personal cabin. There is nothing she wouldn’t do for the Imperium, and any enemies who stand in Farah’s way should fear her wrath.

Skills: She’s an expert in close combat, and always seems to have a knack for breaking through the frontlines of enemies. Not many can match the tenacity of Farah when it comes to tactics and strategy on the ground in close combat, and finding weaknesses not only in enemy formations, but in a enemies’ personal defenses as well. She has a taste for using short ranged weapons, and close combat ones training mostly with her Power Maul, with built in plasma rifle and Storm Shield. This is brought on by a strange supernatural perception that makes it seem like she can almost see what will happen, before it happens. Though this perception may be a manifested psyker power, she has exhibited no other powers, and thus is not labelled as such.
Psyker Assignment Level: Omicron

Biography: She was found lying in a small field of corn, her body healthy, and everything about her seemed to be perfect. Many of the tribe wanted to leave her in the barrens where nothing would grow to die, others wanted to kill her outright believing that they could not feed another mouth that was not hers. Yet the Tribe Elder and his wife disagreed, finding that the child who seemed closer to a teen than that of a toddler was something special sent to them, a being that would help them keep what was theirs. They were proved right as Farah proved to be a quick learner at everything she did, and was strong enough to begin doing tasks than even two men would be able to do for the tribe.

She excelled with them quickly bringing them harmony as she helped in the taking care of what cattle they had, and helping tend the fields, even showing them a way to make some land that had once been thought impossible to far, and turn it it into workable farm land, which doubled the amount of land they had to grow food. She also showed almost natural abilities with weapons, proving time and again as she fended off raids that she was more than capable of using a firearm, and swords. As her age increased she told the elder of strategies and plans she had come up with so that the warring between the tribes could end, and they could live in peace.

So she lead the Tribe against the others removing the leaders to show the strength of her tribe, and revealing all that she had taught to her own tribe so that no one would be without. After a decade of this the planet was finally unified. A new era of peace dawned for Kestes as had never been seen before, with only the occasional rebellion rising up. Besides that though it was peaceful. That was until the Emperor came, and told her of his crusade, told her who she was to him. She went with him though and and was given her own Legion, the Fifth Legion which was quickly renamed the ‘Blazing Sisters’ after their tactics, and color pattern.

First Company

Captain Isis, a handsome woman with facial features that most strongly resemble Farah of any of the Blazing Sisters, her hair when grown out also shares the same color and texture though she typically keeps her hair shaved to the scalp. She wears a set of Terminator armor much like her primarch as well though she wears a panther pelt only over the right shoulder, and wields a pair of lightning claws. Isis is one of the cooler tempered of her sisters, except when it comes to her Pirmarch, when it comes to Farah's reputation or life being on the line Isis can be easily put into a fury of retribution, but her leadership skills and strategic mind are strong and sound, and her unwaivering attitude in battle has earned her the position of First Company Captain.

2nd Company

Captain Thalestris
A face that seems almost regal with piercing eyes, Thalestris would have had the eye of many suitors if she was not born an Astartes. With hair the color of golden corn, she has shaved it in a single stirpe down the middle of her head and cuts off just at the back of her skull where it is all tied back into a ponytail that reaches her shoulders. She wears a regular set of power armor a lion's pet adorning her left shoulder and carries a power spear slightly taller than herself. She is of few words, and moves like a lioness on the prowl searching for everyone's weakness at all times.

Third Company

Captain Valasca
Valasca has seen better days, one of Farah's best Captains, but also most brash , she bears the markings of a life in war where she has taken many chances. Once a handsome face with strong features was now marred with multiple scars, and a cybernetic where and Ork had gotten to her. Further showing of her brashness is the fact that her right arm down is completely mechanical after she lost it charging a Ork line. Though all these acts are brash they also were successful, and turning points that brought many victories to Farah and through her the Emperor. She wears a set of regular power armor donning a beige pelt of a feline on her right shoulder, carrying a chainsword, and a Inferno pistol gifted to her by Farrah as a reward due the victory won at the sacrifice of her arm.

Fourth Company

Captain Penthesilia
Some find it hard to believe when they see her face that she is an Astartes, she truly has a beauty like few other among the Blazing Sisters with vibrant eyes, naturally long lashes, and hair as soft as silk many consider her quid beautiful. She keeps that soft platinum hair cut in a fade with the top being left very long and falling to one side. The Captain of Fourth Company commands the Company with largest amount of Terminators and thus she herself also wears terminator armor, with the pelt of a white tiger with almost neon blue stripes draped over her shoulder. She fights with deadly ferocity using a attached storm bolter, and a chainfist. She tends to be quite open with her thoughts, quite often expressing herself fully no matter the situation. Still she will always follow follow orders, and is willing to go into situations that would kill other Astartes.

Antiope is very different from the rest of her Sisters, her hair is a darker brown color, with a rounder face than the rest of her sisters who have high cheekbones, and strong jawlines, regardless of this she is a extremely valued Sister, and completely worthy of her position as a captain. Like other Captains she wears the typical power armor the pelt of a lynx like feline on the left shoulder, unlike the others she is especially talented in ranged combat, and leads the largest amount of range fighters, she carries a Storm Bolter of which she has perfected the use of over her time in the Blazing Sisters legion.

Captain Eurybe (6th), Captain Celaneo(7th), Captain Phoebe(8th)
Strangely enough these three women all took on the same identical appearance, a strong jawline, high cheek bones, small pouty lips, and half closed seemingly uncaring eyes. They also all took to having the same hairstyle where the left side of their head is shaved completely bald and the other side hangs to their shoulders, in a blonde silky waterfall. They all wear Astartes power armor decorated with a tiger pelt stretched over their right shoulders. Each one carries a different weapons though, Eurybe carrying a Power Lance, Celaneo carrying a Power Sword, and Phoebe carrying a Power Axe.

Honor Guard
Slayers of Herakles
These women make up some of the most elite of the Blazing Sister's legion. They are fifteen strong, and mixed between regular Astartes, and Librarians. They wear terminator armor the color of gold, with red splashes, while they carry Halberd weapons, force halberds for the Librarian's and Power Halberds for the non Librarians. They are lead by Captain Antimache, a veteran of the Blazing Sister's legion, one of the oldest serving Marines under Farah's command. She keeps her head shaved smooth and bald, and wears the pelt of a Kestes Lion as a cape.

Special Units
The Lion Lancers: The Kestes Lions are enormous beasts standing around eight feet at the shoulder while on all fours. They are armored in their own way with special springs, and shocks designed to hold the weight of a fully armored Astartes to ride upon their back. They also typically have a storm bolter mounted on a swivel on their back. The riders of these beasts carry power lances, and use the mounted storm bolter as a ranged weapon. The lions typically have fur colored black and white, with huge flowing manes that obscure the most of the rider from view of the enemy.

Non-Astartes
Iterator Elias Kaphim
Elias Kaphim is the Senior most Iterator on the ship and is often sought out by Farah, and the other Captains when they are in need of counsel, or wish to learn more about the past. He stands stooped at the waist, bent over as his back was bent with age, his skin wrinkled with time, though there is still a sparkle of intelligence in his eyes.

Remembrancer Lykinnia Assandros
Farrah’s personal remembrancer, Farrah has assigned Lykinna to record all her accounts of war stories, and things that are taking place during her campaigns, she also lets her record her personal feelings about how campaigns are going and the actions of other Primarchs on, and off the battlefield. She also often tells her of stories from before she joined the Crusade, and tales from her homeworld, and the songs they sung. Lykinnia is young and beautiful, hair colored bright red, with skin like porcelain, pouty lips red as blood, and bright green eyes. The Psyker for Farrah’s flagship, he is completely blind, and frail even though he is incredibly young.

She tried and failed at being and Astartes, and was instead made into a Serf for Farrah’s personal use. She spends much of her time cleaning Farrah’s armor, and preparing the tribal elements that often decorate Farrah’s armor.

Favored Tactics/Battlefield Role: The Blazing Sisters Legion has a mindset of charging into battle, usually looking to hit an enemy’s frontline at it’s weakest point in order to break it. They typically form up prepared for short ranged, and close melee combat, their weapons usually consisting of chainswords, bolt pistols, and bolters. While they do have some armored vehicles it’s not nearly as many as other legions, as the tactics they typically follow in battle can’t use many vehicles except ones that deliver heavy artillery fire, though they do make use of many dreadnoughts.

Legion Characteristics/Ideology: They tend to be extremely stricts outside of combat, wearing only the appropriate attire issued to them, acting only as accorded to them by their chapters standards, and adhering to strict training schedules. During their time off from their schedules in which they can do what they please they can be often found playing games that require sharp minds knowing strategy, or sparring with each other in the training rooms. They are often respectful with other legion’s astartes, but can grow aggravated with a lack of discipline or lack of planning in any given situation.

Farrah’s Flagship is named, Mellanippe

The Blazing Sisters typically put on warpaint before going into battle, a broad stripe of orange that goes from the end of one eye to the over including over the bridge of their nose, with thin strip of purple from the top of their top lip to the bottom of their chins.

The Blazing Sisters love to sing songs, especially when marching or in battle. They often sing when they gather together for updates from Farrah, who often leads them in their singing.

Ophiuchi Serpens, the Beacon (WIP)

Name: Ophiuchi Serpens, a.k.a. "The Beacon"

Gender: Male

Homeworld: Sabik IV, and to a lesser extent the entire thirteen-planet system orbiting the binary stars Sabik Prime and Sabik Secundus. The world of Sabik IV proper is tropical and highly oxygenated, with a persistent temperature around 30 degrees celsius and reasonable humidity; it contains many insects of great size and flora ranging from simple bushes to trees hundreds of meters tall, but is eerily devoid of other life beyond a population of humans with a high frequency of psykers compared to normal planets. Despite, or perhaps due to this lack of much hostile life, it is a mostly safe world, with the human population tending towards tribes and farming villages before Ophiuchi's arrival, then developing into a wholly-cooperative Renaissance-level society by the time of the Emperor's arrival.
The exception to the above occured within the two hundred or so square kilometers around each of the planet's poles. Prior to Ophiuchi's arrival, these remained many tens of degrees celsius sub-zero, with a gravitational pull many times stronger than everywhere else on the surface, occurring as a result of an overlap between Realspace and the Warp at these points. The humans living in these areas had not only adapted to the crushing gravity by evolving into the planet's equivalent of Ogryns, but many were also heavily mutated by the Warp in their own right (including at least one known Ogryn psyker, considered impossible by normal means), and all but a few worshipped the gaping wounds in reality despite their tendency to occasionally belch out murderous fiends that took much manpower to destroy. This heretic population has since been purged, and the Warp portals forcibly closed, such that the poles now share the same environment as the rest of the planet, albeit a bit cooler at roughly 20 degrees celsius rather than the usual 30.
The other planets in the Sabik system were not initially inhabited, and most were either too hot or too cold to support life, though Sabik V and VI support tolerable atmospheres, if rather cool in VI's case, and have since been converted into an Agri-World and a Civilised World respectively, whilst Sabik III has become a Forge World, and many planets in the system have been found to contain large quantities of psi-reactive minerals, thus necessitating their transformation into Industrial and Mining Worlds to acquire the substances.

Alignment: Loyalists - Ophiuchi understands the dangers of Chaos better than most, and refuses to allow himself or his Legion to get involved any further with the power of the Warp than has been agreed upon as safe, though creativity within these limits is certainly encouraged.

Fate: To atone for the sins of his Legion, specifically most of Cancer Chapter turning to Chaos, he sacrifices himself upon the Golden Throne so that Malcador the Sigillite may live on, either dying in the process or else being drained of much of his psychic power before the Emperor returns. In the case that he survives, he will likely write the setting equivalent of the canonical Codex Astartes, reorganise his Legion to fit with the Codex's dictats, then head into either the Eye of Terror or the intergalactic void in search of further atonement.

Appearance: What does your demigod look like? Describe them out of armor in text unless you can find a picture that fits. You may also describe their power armor and their regalia. Remember that no matter male or female, Primarchs are usually a solid 11 feet tall and muscular.

Wargear: Any special equipment that you may use. Remember, the Emperor's still around and the Heresy hasn't started yet meaning you as the favored children get to play around with all kinds of fancy, sparkly toys by throwing your daddy's name around. Just don't go to crazy.

Skills: Immense psychic power, on the scale of continents and even planets.
Anything special about your Primarch in terms of abilities? Anything they really excel at or any mutations that might grant them some ability? This is also where you would write down you Primarch's psychic level; even if they have none just write "none". Again, these should remain reasonable.

Personality: Your Primarch's character traits, their positives and negatives, their highs and lows, where they excel and what their flaws are. Remember: the Primarchs are human, and yet far beyond human, capable of far more intensity than any mere mortal in all of their emotions. In other words, they're almost literally larger than life, and should be portrayed as such. Their most defining traits should be easily recognizable.

History: The story of your primarch's life before and after they were picked up, what they did during the Great Crusade and what ultimately causes them to fall to Chaos if they do. Any notable achievements should be listed here and more importantly, what the meeting between the Emperor and your Primarch was like. Relations: Basically what is your stance on the Emperor? Your Primarch siblings? Any other random people you have a connection with? Do you have any Primarchs you really like or despite completely? The Zodiac Guard (WIP)

Legion Name: The Zodiac Guard, originally The Emperor's Maelstrom.

Legion Number: Thirteen (XIII)

Legion Strength: ~12000-15000

Armor Appearance: Using this SM armor painter, make the color scheme of your space marines, they haven't turned full chaos yet so they won't be having any of the spikey bits and stuff. I'm not going to be too much of a stickler for exact marks of armor and such, but you should not be having like Mark 8 power armor.

Warcry: "Mind Over Materium!", "Into The Maelstrom!"

Important Figures: Twelve leaders of each main chapter
Besides your Primarch, who else is a "major player" in your Legion? This could be anyone from company commanders to techmarines or medicae or whatever. If you have a splinter force of your Legion who did not follow with your Legion's overall choice on what side to be on in the Schism in the future, this is where you would put them.

Tactics/Roles: Versatility, backed by psychic power
Basically how does your Legion fight and what job/role do they normally occupy? Are they siege specialist? Melee champions? Ranged marksmen? Or something else? What kind of vehicles do they have and do they use orbital assists?

Traits/Ideology: How does your legion think and appear? Is it due to the Imperium/Chaos influence, its gene-seed, its Primarch or its recruits/homeworld? Kha'zik Hasik

Name: Kha'zik Hasik, The Serpent lord, The Desert Spear.

Gender: Male

Homeworld: Thanatos designation Death world. North of the Segmentum Obscurus, in the Tamahl Sector. Thanatos, a desert and almost barren world of blistering days and frigid nights. The planet is home to a hardy and strong of will people, they function in loose tribes that roam the dunes and steppes in constant search of good water and grazing land for their herds of goats and camels. Kha'zik would land in an area of the planet called the Salt Mountains and would be raised by one of the wandering tribes of warrior monks that inhabited the mountainous regions of the planet.

Alignment: Kha'zik is a stout loyalist, but the allure of Nurgle will prove to strong.

Fate: Kha'zik will ascend to daemonhood during the siege of Terra.

Appearance: Kha'zik stands at a measly 12.5 ft tall and is powerfully built even for a primarch. His skin is a deeply tanned light brown from the scorching suns of his homeworld and his hair is a dark blackish brown. Multiple scars crisscross his arms, face and chest from multiple fights, accidents, and hunts. His armour in contrast to his Legion's is a greenish tan brown and is adorned with not only the typical iconography of his legion, but a large cloak of light tan scales from a elder wyrm known as Kronus that Kha'zik slayed a year prior to the Emperor's arrival on Thanatos. Most interesting about the primarch are his eyes. His eyes are the slit pupils of a snake and are very sensitive to light.

Wargear: Kha'zik wears the Serpent's Mantle, a set of terminator armour with a built in auspex, teleport homer, and enhanced ceremite. Built into his armour's left hand is the Burning wrath, a flamer filled with a mix of Promethium and Sand wyrm bio acid capable of melting a man in 2.3 seconds. In his right hand he holds the Serpent's fang, a power spear forged from adamantium and infused with the ashes of a greater wyrm and Kha'zik's human parents. The spear has a greater wyrm's fang as its head and is around 10 and a half feet long.
Skills: Built to be a leader of men Kha'zik has all the knowledge needed implanted in him, but his real strength comes from his unnatural resistance to damage. Kha'zik has taken melta blasts to his unarmoured flesh and come out with slight scarring where lessor men would have been vaporized. He is renown with a spear and very calculating.

Personality: Kha'zik is a man of passion and to see anyone deliberately thrown into harms way is to mean the Primarch's wrath. For the common human Kha'zik has been known to send his legion in front of Solar auxiliary forces as a bulwark or a shield. Normally he is calm and a voice of reason to his brothers and sisters in times of peace, but when at war the primarch is very different. A path of destruction is the primarch's legacy and he has been known, though he heavily was against the orders, to destroy whole civilizations to keep the peace.

History: The young primarch was found deep in the Salt mountains upon the planet Thanatos and his captule was found by the a wandering warrior monk tribe in the jaws of a dying elder wyrm. The monks found the child inside and named him Kha'zik Hasik or The Devoured Son, after how he was found. In his early teen the young lord was leader of the monk order and lead his people out of the mountains and on a crusade of peace to reunite the tribes. It would be during one of these crusades that a beggar in the night would come to Kha'zik and ask him for some water for his throat was parched and cracked from the desert sands. Kha'sik would indeed share his water and welcome the man to join his crusade of peace, at this the man would chuckle and ask Kha'zik what he thought of humanity and the stars. Puzzled Kha'zik would have a conversation with the man about the stars, mankind, and war until the twins suns rose again and before the young primarch was a giant man clad in armour of gold and Kha'zik felt more at peace then ever before. The man, now known to Kha'zik as his father, would ask Kha'zik to return with him to Terra and meet his sons.
During the Great Crusade Kha'zik was a primary force in taking worlds populated by humans. With his charisma and gentle words Kha'zik turned countless worlds back to the emperor and his sons fought endlessly with the Solar auxiliaries and their fellow legions on countless worlds. The Primarch himself would be wounded by a strange cult and forced to retreat back to his home world for treatment.

Relations(WIP): Kha'zik revers his father as a mighty general and lord of all and seeks to be more like his father in attitude, but can't find a way how. However, when are civilians, especially young children, he acts as a consul a shoulder to cry on or use for support. He understands that while he is a demigod he was created to lead the lessor humans and has instilled this into his legion. (His opinion on the other primarchs will come as their CS are created.)

Master of Sanity Tarkin Artlox: Once the legion's greatest chaplain he fell in battle to a ork warlord and is forever entombed inside a contemptor dreadnought armed with a power fist/ heavy flamer and a contemtor Gatling cannon.
5th company 9th sargent Pyriel Sor: Also known as the Fallen son, Pyriel once slayed a daemon prince of Nurgle and in his blood soaked fury turned on his brothers until he was subdued and put to death by the primarch. Before he was captured 45 battle brothers fell to Pyriel's power fist and plasma pistol.
Reaver lord commander Syris Puloxis: Leader of Kha'zik's elite guard and one of the legion's oldest marines Syris is a grizzled harden warrior who stands between his lord and is his hammer of judgement. Part of Syris's skull was crushed by Pyriel and has been replaced with cybernetics from Mars.
Honor Guard:
The Reavers: A elite guard of ten terminator veterans trained personally by Kha'zik and rarely eave their lord's side. Each are armed with storm bolters and power spears.
Special units:
Scaled riders: A elite regiment from the first company of around 500 astardes riding great dune crawlers of Thanatos. Dune crawlers are giant cow-like omnivorous lizards native to the sands of Thanatos and their heavy armoured bodies are the perfect mounts for warriors armed with power weapons and bolt pistols.

Tactics/Roles: The Sand Wyrms of Thanatos have long been a vital part of the mythologies of the Tribesmen who live there. They see the massive reptiles as powerful beings of nature, harbingers of peace and better times. Where the Sand Wyrm roams, rains and good hunting follow suit. The reasoning for this, unbeknownst to the Tribesmen, is that the Wyrms detest the rains of Thanatos, their coming waters down the Sands which they call home, and makes it difficult for them to move. Thusly, they travel before the storm, stirring up all wildlife with their massive bulk, driving even the most stubborn rat from its hole in fear. They travel in tight knit familial groups, supporting each member of the family and showing an amount of care much unlike what a beast of their stature and bearing would be expected to show. Though, just as they are bringers of peace and prosperity, they are also beings of terrifying strength, and they are able to lay waste to whole tribes when riled from their ways. Striking fast, sowing great terror with their monstrous bulk and roars, and leaving the aggressor in utter ruin. The Death Wardens have taken these Beasts to the soul of their Creed and lives, accepting the duality of these majestic creatures and focusing that nature into the heart of their legion. The Death Wardens idolize the beasts, being drawn from the Tribesmen of Thanatos, and worship them with much reverence. Each battle brother of the Death Wardens aspires to attain the attributes of the Sand Wyrm, to become a warrior who strikes fear into the hearts of the enemy, destroying all who oppose him and the Imperium, while also becoming compassionate and benign, a crusader of peace and harmony even as they sow destruction. They must always act with good reason, and always watch out for their Battle Brothers. Each marine also carry's in them a deep care for the common folk of the Imperium, and hold their lives in as high a regard as their own.
The legion makes great use of land speeders, bikes, and most importantly Dreadnoughts. Dreadnoughts are revered almost as much as the great wyrms as they are literally the chapter's eldest marines and carry great wisdom and power.

Traits/Ideology: The sons of Hasik look much like their father in almost every aspect, but that their armour is differently colored and their hair maybe a different colored hair, eyes and or darker skin. Their attitude is similar in that the common man is more important and that to die in battle is to join their ancestor's in Heaven and it is tradition for a marine to have his body entombed in the legion's fortress monastery on Thanatos.

Alavion, an Imperial Knight world known for vast woodlands and mountain valleys dotted with castles, hamlets, villages, ports and towns; an overall beautiful and picturesque planet ruled over by kings and queens and their knights in great anceint suits of power armor. Also a host of large dangerous beasts and at one point a feral ork infestation.

Loyalist - Dies with arms in hand during the Siege of Terra while defending the palace, falling in battle like knights of old.

• Valorforged Oath - A Paragon Blade from the ages of yore, passed down the line of monarchs and lords of Alavion into Talvyrn's hands. Its blade never falters and is said to be able to cut armor. Although its technically a two-handed great sword, Talvryn wields it as if it was but a normal blade.

Maximilian Jorrengar

Name: Maximilian Jorrengar

Gender: Male

Homeworld: Maximilian's Hope
Maximilians Hope is a planet that went through many names. Before the Age of Darkness, it was known as Maerani. After it was cut off from Terra by the warp storms, it became known as Dust. As soon as Maximilian took over, he renamed it once again to Maximilian's Hope.

Alignment: Loyalist. Very close to The Emperor, closer than many of the others. To begin with, he saw The Emperor as a means to an end, simply a big golden man that gave him an invincible army, but as time has gone on, his father is convinced that he can mold Maximilian into a poster-child of the Imperium.

Appearance: Like all of his brothers, Maximilian is almost 10 feet tall, he has shoulder-length brown hair and a stubble beard. His armour is a beige colour, to better suit the desert planet that he grew up on. His armour is adorned with trophies from his kills, each shoulder pad has a chain adorned with about 50 human finger-bones each.

Wargear:

Armour of Dust: A suit of Artificer Armour created by the Emperor's personal Artificiers. This suit was then customized by the Techmarines of the Storm Raiders to better suit Maximilian's fighting style. The suit is covered in small tricks and weapons. Including a Missile-pod on one shoulder (Containing 4 Krak missiles) and a bright pop-up lamp on the other (Can flash several, extremely bright colours, designed to blind enemies) Both hands have Digital Weapons built into them and his boots each conceal a Power Dagger, one wrist has a Volkite Charger built into it, whilst the other is where he keeps his Shield. Maximillian's "Make Everything A Weapon" philosophy is displayed well in this armour.

Spear of Hope: A Guandao, large enough to be weilded by even a Primarch, it was originally the spear held by his tribes leader, but it was shattered against The Emperor's armour, when he first arrived on Dust. The Spear was taken and reforged by the Techmarines of his legion, made longer, the head reforged with the assistance of the Storm-Witches, who carved protective runes into it. The spear is said to hold the breath of the Storm Witches and that, in Humanities darkest hour, it will light the way to victory. Even with as big as it is, he can still weild it 1-handed.

The Rockatan Sky: A Master-Crafted Power Sword. It was created when insane monks found the remainder of Maximillian's Pod and used the strange metals to forge "A Sword for a Warrior of Heaven's Road." The sword has the words "Via Bellator" carved into it.

Master Crafted Storm Shield.

Skills:

Maximillian, like most of his brothers, possesses at least a minor Pysker potential, being a close clone of The Emperor. Although, his Psyker potential isn't enough to manifest itself as a weapon (Much to his Chagrin) he is able to sense when his brothers, sisters and father are nearby and able to more easily resist the Psyker Powers than the average human.

Personality: Maximilian, at the moment, is loud, brutish, unsubtle around his brothers/sisters and completely full of himself. Having been treated like a king for most of his early life, it's difficult for him to adapt to the fact that he not only has equals, but superiors. Maximilian believes in making every part of the battlefield a weapaon, a strategy that has served him well. His father has been trying to teach him humility, lessons which are being learned, albeit slowly. Maximilian also likes to take a trophy from every fight, his armour is adorned with the finger bones of all of the warlords who opposed him in his conquest of Dust and his throne-room on the planets capital is adorned by the skulls of the leaders of each Xenos race he has personally overseen the genocide of. He is quick to anger and often finds himself at odds with his brothers and sisters, but do not think him a fool. One does not become the ruler of a planet through brute strength alone and 2 of his brothers/sisters have already learned the hard way that the Primarchs and their legions are not invincible.

History: Like all of the Primarchs, he was conceived in The Emperor's secret lab in the Himalaya's. When the Dark Gods scattered the 20 children across the galaxy, he was thrown to a planet that they thought he would surely perish on. On Dust, his pod was discovered by one of the many women of the HandCutter tribe under the Warlord "Joseph "HandCutter" Jorrengar" When he was brought back to the tribe, Joseph took the baby and held him upside-down by the leg, staring into his eyes. He could see strength in the babies eyes... A strength he could use. He took the baby as his son, raising him as a warrior. By the time he was 5 years old, he was strong enough and skilled enough to kill a veteran warrior. When he was 10, he led his first raid on another village, slaughtering their warriors and taking their valuables and women as trophies for his father.

Whilst growing up, he had become close friends with a girl by the name of Kaiton Banel, she was taken away by the Storm-Witches when she was 10 and made to learn the ways of Geomancy and Tempesta. It was during this time that he was given a bodyguard, Marcos Lunain a stern man, but physically imposing and a tactical genius. However, by the time Maximilian was 17, he was far larger than Marcos, regardless, he still valued Marcos as a close friend. When he was 18, Maximilian was blessed with the birth of a sister.

Relations:

Alia Jorrengar: Adopted Sister. Alia was born shortly before Maximilian killed their father for control of the tribe, ever since then, he has treated her as a younger sister. Even when she was young, she was a psyker, even if not a powerful one. Her powers manifest from the Telepathy disciplines and allow her to read minds and turn invisible at will. Grand Stormwitch Kaiton Banel: Banel is the leader of the Storm Witches, born on Dust, she grew up with Maximilian. When she came of age, she was taken by the village elders and trained as a Stormwitch, taught to control the harsh weathers and perfect the contours of the ground to make attacks on their enemies easier. She was extraordinarily powerful and by the age of 16, was able to, quite literally, move mountains with her mind and tame the very weather itself. When Maximilian took control of the village, she and Marcos stood with him, ensuring the loyalty of the warriors under his command. When the Emperor came, she was one of the first of his warriors to undergo bionic enhancements to allow her to keep up with the harsh tasks required of members of the Legion. Having mastery of the Geomancy and Tempesta Disciplines, she is one of the deadliest warriors in the Storm Raiders, as well as agreed by many in the Legion, to be one of the deadliest warriors in the Imperium as a whole. In battle, she weilds a Force Staff and Force Sword, wearing Artificer Armour and riding into battle astride a Jetbike.

Grand Castellan Marcos Lunain: A human and formerly Maximilian's right-hand, during their days on the homeworld, before the Emperor's arrival. Back then, he served as one of Maximilian's Advisors, as well as his bodyguard. Marcos is an amazing combatant and a very skilled tactician. With the coming of the Emperor and the realization that Maximilian would need a First Captain, Marcos was the Primarch's first choice. Unfortunately, gene-testing proved that he was biologically incapable of being implanted with Gene-seed. Though he could not become a part of the Storm Raiders, Maximilian nonetheless granted him supreme command of all of the combined Imperial Armies under the legions command, as well as the command rights that a Company Captain of the Legion enjoys, though he very rarely flexes these rights. Over the years, he has lost many parts of his body to the cause, including an eye, both arms and legs. He is now mostly bionic, but continues to fight the good fight, as he has undergone extreme Genetic rejuvenation therapy, allowing him to keep fighting, long into his 200's. He is 6'2, has long flowing white hair and a long silver beard. In combat, he wears Power Armour, wields a giant Power Maul and a Tower-Shield. He may be old and only human, but he is still viciously loyal to the Primarch and still considers himself to be the Primarch's chief Bodyguard and protector, he would willingly throw himself at any danger that he believes could harm the Primarch.

Second Captain Barrion Matthew's: Matthew's is a Terran-born Space Marine and former First Captain of the Storm Raider's, being the leader off the entire Legion before they found their Primarch. One of the first to ship out with Legion XII when they began their quest to find their lost Primarch. Barrion quickly earned a name for himself as one of the most competant commanders in all 20 legions. It was his heroics at the Battle of Baten Canyon that earned him a special commendation from His Majesty, He charged across a clear mile of no-mans-land to get to an Anti-Aircraft gun emplacement to shoot down a craft that was attempting to flee the battle-zone and carry the enemy leaders with it. It was his actions that brought the matter to a speedy close. As time has worn on, his number of commendations has grown, whilst his number of in-tact body-parts has shrank to the point where he is missing his jaw, both of his eyes and one of his legs, all replaced with cybornetics. In combat, he utilizes a Jump Pack, Power Sword and Power Fist with inbuilt Volkite Pistol.

Grand Techmarine Jenusas Lieftig: Lieftig was born on Mars, raised by the Techpriests and, eventually, taken into Legion XII when one of their ships was picking up a contingent of Fellblade tanks. He is rather young, but his knowledge and affinity to the Machine Spirits cannot be matched by any else in the Legion. Jenasus has proven his ability to get the best out of the vehicles under his command on many battlefields, leading the successful Tank Campaign against the Yotramba species and personally overseeing their Genocide. He has also been one of the few Techmarines that has been allowed to assist in the repair of an Imperator-Class War-Titan

Tactics/Roles: Maximilian has taught his legion to fight the way he was taught to. Move fast, hit hard and always make sure that the battlefield has the more benefits for you than your opponent. Each battlegroup will always be accompanied by multiple psykers, usually a Stormwitch and a pair of Librarians. Stormwitches are unique beings, born only on Maximilain's Hope and only ever female (Although, there are female psykers that are born on the planet that aren't Stormwitches.) The Stormwitches are powerful Geomancers and Tempesta's, giving them amazing control over the battlefield, changing the shape and weather to suit their needs. Each Librarian will manifest a different psyker ability, usually Biomancy and Divination, in order to be able to predict enemy strategy and then overpower them enemy with sheer speed and brute force, whilst the Stormwitch focusses on bending and shaping the battlefield and the weather to best suit the Storm Raider's battle strategy.

As fast attack specialists, they make surprisingly little use of Land Speeders, as they deem them far too fragile for their battle tactics, they dislike any vehicle that will easily be destroyed in a hail of boltgun fire. They instead developed the "Hope-Pattern" Land Speeder that sacrifices some of its speed for much heavier armour plating. Their first wave of Motorbikes and fast moving tanks to smash through their enemies lines before delivering their deadly payload and get away. Then, before the enemy can regroup their forces, the second wave of heavier vehicles, Drop Pods, aircraft and Jetbikes descend upon them and destroy whatever remains.

Traits/Ideology: Wherever the Storm Raiders go, they are usually accompanied by their Imperial Armies. Each Army is headed by a Castellan, who is allowed to orginize their army in whichever way they see fit, although all must be approved by the Primarch before they are allowed into combat. The Storm Raiders are brutish and violent, but well organized. Any army acting out of place could put an entire battle in jeopardy and that is something that Maximilian will never stand for.

As with most every Legion, the Storm Raiders have a council of the Primarch's most trusted advisors. This is known as "The Drumhead" which is a council of the Grand commanders of the Legion and it's command structure. The seats on The Drumhead are each represented by a circle of the commanders within the Storm Raiders structure. These include the Praetorian Circle (Each Chapter's commander), Castellan Circle (Each Castellan), Admiralty Circle (The Fleet's admiralty), Titanicus Cicle (The Titan Legions), The Stormwitch Circle, The Librarius Cicle (The Librarians) and others. Each Circle has a Grand (Grand Castellan, Grand Admiral, Grand Praetor, etc.) who sits on the council and relays the decisions as agreed by each cicle, although, since each Drumhead meeting is held in secrecy, the Circles have no way of forcing the Grand to abide by the Circles decision and merely relay their own opinion. This is because each Grand is appointed by the Primarch as the one he has the most faith in to make the best decision.

Not done with Max yet, but this is the rough basis of the Legion itself. Just posting it up so I don't lose it.

@mattmanganon I would say no to both ideas of having a twin female primarch but less to having the idea of a twin primarch. If you want females, then you will have to have your Primarch/s females, no fraternal twins business going on in this case. If wanted twins, you'd have to be able to play them properly and interestingly.

But either way, if you want your mixed gender legion, you'll have to make a damn good argument like why in the first place and why would the Emperor go through the trouble of making a mixed gender legion in the first place since that is seriously going to complicate things like hormone therapy and gene seed.

tl;dr - If you're going to play twins then actually play them right and not use them as a cop out excuse to have a mixed gender legion.

@ClocktowerEchos @mattmanganon It also bears mentioning: controlling two Primarchs effectively doubles the personal power at their command. Not the power they get from controlling a Legion of superhumans, obviously, but unless you actively have one fall to Chaos along with a good chunk of their Legion, they're never really going to fight against one another seriously, thus providing them essentially doubled strength when fighting a major enemy champion. Say, another Primarch. Just a thought.

Name: Gavlan, The War-Smith, Renown Engineseer of Novarupta

Gender: Male

Homeworld: Novarupta - Disignation Dead World (formerly: Forge World) Much like Mars the Novarupta was run by the Mechanicus who had degenerated into a Technocracy where machines where meant to serve the techpriests rather than the reverence like that of mars. The people running the factories where little more than slaves imported from the surrounding feudal worlds which where kept in a state of medieval perpetual war. The endless wars on these worlds supplied the many thousands of slaves to the Novarupta forges. The planet itself is plunged into eternal night by the thick choking atmosphere of acrid exhaust and toxic fumes.

Alignment: Chaos Undivided (Note: Gavlan was (or will be) excommunicated due to use of Forbidden technology)

Fate: Flees to the Eye of terror with the Hereteks in tow, along with many forbidden technological artifacts. Galvan is also severely wounded during the Siege of Terra requiring extensive augmentations to survive.

Appearance: Gavlan stands at about 11'2 much like his siblings, but this is his only major similarity. When not covered by his armor Gavlan often wears robes that are very similar to the robes of a techpriest to cover his extensive cybernetic modifications. The majority of his enchancments are more subtle than that of the Mechanicus with most augments being covered over by skin but if one looked closely they could see machines moving and working underneath. These machines mostly make it so that he does not need nutrition or sleep as often as his siblings, being more than able to function normally for weeks on end without tiring. The machines also give his drastically increased durability, while his organs may become damaged the machines pumping or cleaning his blood are much more robust. Beyond this he has extra limbs attached to his spine, two thick tendrils of synthetic muscle and cable bound in adamantium hang from his shoulder blades and wired to his spine to be directly controlled by Gavlan's thoughts. The tendrils end in four pronged clamps ((like the sentinels from the matrix)) that can grip with enough force to crack ceramite.

Wargear:
The Hammer of Novarupta - A large power maul with a shortened haft to make it a one handed weapon. Crafted by Gavlan himself

Deus-Machina - A heavily modified Stormblade super heavy tank. It is fitted with a massive plasma blast cannon and several side mounted heavy bolters and las-cannons. The tank is noticeably larger than its sibling Stormblades as it supports Ion shields like that of the Knight titan and a much more powerful generator to fuel the energy demands of the plasma cannon and shields. Atop the primary turret sits a command throne where Galvan will be wired into the tank's vox and auspex sensors.

Skills: Engineseer - He is not a psyker in the traditional sense but is very adept at communing with the machine spirit, while this makes him an excellent Techmarine his use of this ability earns him displeasure from the Mechanicus based on Mars, as he is often overpowering the will of the machine spirit and forcing it to function rather than offering it prayer and reverence.

Augments - Thanks to seveal sensory implants he is able to pick up and process more information than most, sights and sounds are enhanced and processed more completely than that of even a Primarch. These implants also grant him the ability to communicate in Binary with techpriests or techmarines with the proper implants.

Personality: Gavlan is actually quite jovial most of the time, laughing at himself or absurd stories like a drunkard. He is also somewhat of a rabble rouser. he is often found stirring trouble by riling up his siblings, or trying the Emperor's temper. However once the situation is serious or he is on the battlefield he becomes as cold and methodical as any of the Mechanicus.

Galvan however hardly spends time outside of his private workshop. He endlessly tinkers and modifies everything from Imperial guard tactical helmets to the Baneblade in the center of the workshop that has been fully stripped by Galvan alone as he seeks to improve the machine, Already proposing several new Baneblade patterns to his mobile factories.

History: Galvan was dropped on the toxic Forge world of Novarupta, he was found by a low ranking member of the Technocracy and raised as if he where the enginseer's own child. The Enginseer was one of the many on Novarupta who did not follow the restrictions that had governed the Mechanicus as strictly as those on mars. Galvan grew in this environment tinkering and exploring machines constantly developing a bond with the machine spirit that was unmatched even by the most senior techpriests.

Galvan entered the Technocracy younger than any had before, but those Enginseers who had known Galvan where surprised it took him as long as it did. Galvan however cared little for the hierarchy or who controlled the most productive forges, and cared even less for the politics around such petty squabbles. He preferred to experiment in his workshop. He produced many patterns of tanks, armor, generators, water pumps etc. that far surpassed those of his so-called superiors.

The Tecnocrats where happy to let him toil away in his workshop as they knew if Galvan decided to he could wrest control of the forges away from whomever he pleased. Galvan began research into deeper and forbidden technologies that even the priests of Novarupta dared not explore. He worked on producing machines that could think for themselves. He started on a very small scale, producing little more than mechanical rodents who could think on a very basic level. His advances grew slowly for years, even while the Emperor's great fleet burned across the galaxy reclaiming his siblings. The Enginseers of Novarupta began fearing the ever advancing artificial intelligence coming from Galvan's laboratories. When they started sending Skittari Units they where met by autonomous gunturrets that scythed them down.

Galvan began tinkering with a suit of armor from one of the feudal worlds near by, little more than a shell to house the machinery and intelligence of his artificial army. It was a primitive contraption, with only a simple las-gun built into it wrist and crude routines dictating its behavior. Galvan turned his few forges to mass produce the simple robots. The robots where not truly sentient, but he was close and he could feel it. As his autonomous army grew the Technocracy began trying to force him out and destroy the forges, but his army was growing faster than even the might of their tanks or Skitarii legions could destroy.

Galvan ignored the war raging outside his workshop, endlessly tinkering with the brain of his autonomous legion trying to successfully create a new form of life that was entirely mechanical. As he was nearing his goal the forces of the technocracy fell and the planet was Galvan's, but he didn't even notice. Nor did he notice the Emperor and his dropships arrive at the planet and begin slaughtering the Automatons.

It was a slow grueling war that Galvan was entirely oblivious to until the Emperor and a several squads of terminators marched into his workshop and destroyed the first and only truly intelligent being created by Galvan. Galvan was furious and attacked the emperor, but was quickly subdued as he was wearing nothing but a simple robe and fought with his fists and augmented limbs.

The Emperor forced Galvan to abandon his research and utilize the Iron Legion, now named the Nova Guard, to continue the conquest of the galaxy. He agreed but resented the Emperor for destroying his work and forcing him into such a tedious pursuit of conquest, he had accidentally conquered a forge world in a year without any direct involvement and resisted the full might of the Emperor for weeks.

when he claimed his Legion he re-ignited the Forges of his home and turned them to produce the Star Forge, stripping factories and reducing the entirety of the planet's surface to useless stone in the construction. For years his legion did nothing but take the small feudal planets surrounding the forge world and train and grow their ranks as Galvan constructed the gargantuan ship. When it was complete he left the forge world behind stripped bare, making his legion fleet based and only taking recruits from planets they stop at or conquer.

Desolation of Orvus II - Farah v Galvan

High in orbit above Orvus II on the great Star-Forge ship Galvan and Farah, along with their aides, huddle around a great war-map of the largest hive city. Techpriests and servitors have been running casualty projections and tactical scenarios for hours, increasingly trying Farah's patience but Galvan insists repeatedly stating in a cold dead voice, "we will not repeat the Alerous disaster" where a great many Nova guard where slain. With several more reports coming from the tactical cogitators the best combat scenario hovers around 25% losses of imperial army forces and 10% losses for the Marines. In response to the new data Galvan simply replies "Unacceptable" which also means to run several more calculations which will take at least an hour.

It was at that point that Farah had walked onto the bridge, her sandled feet barely making a noise, regardless of her heavy form. "I see we are taking in the situation brother. What is it you are deciding for Orvus II? Will we drop the our children into their streets, show them our power and make them bow before us?" She grinned a bit and cracked her knuckles, and began look over the same scenarios that Galvan was looking at. She flicked her hand across the screen a few times, and moved around a few positions of the troops before standing back. "There." The screen now read 7% losses for Astartes, and 19% for Imperial Army. "That's better."

Galvan studied the modifications, letting his own cogitators crunch the numbers, it was better to be sure. 7% however was still far too high in his opinion, it would be weeks to replace the tanks and such alone much less the numbers. With out glancing up from the map he asked "Population estimate of hive?" and waited a moment before the number came up, 1.8 Billion people in the city. He grunted, a smallish hive, would probably be rebuilt and populated at least as many in a few years. Despite the fact that taking the hive would take weeks, if not months of slow costly fighting. "No" he said in the impossible calm of a techpriest, "we raze the city, orbital bombardment"

Farah stopped dead in her tracks, slowly turning towards Galvan, and slowly walked over towards him, a hand grabbing his shoulder to turn him towards her. "What? You cannot do that. The losses are more than acceptable, and more than likely off.. That is a standard idea, and you know our Astartes always out perform the predictions." She stared him in the eyes, to see if there was any inclination that he might change his mind. "Galvan, you can't be serious, this is our purpose. TO fight for the Imperium. Not sit here and watch bombs blow up billions of civilians."

Galvan stared he down while dismissing the HUD displays of Farah's heart rate and other vitals, he knew he was upsetting her but it wasn't the point. He sighed and started calling up various numbers in his head even though part of him knew Farah could care less about them. he started spouting them off rapid fire "65% of the population are combatants, at minimum, we will at minimum kill 4 billion enemy combatants and civilians while taking this planet. which will take about a year depending on their resilience. razing this city will save us months, only add 25% to the planets casualties and possibly end the war now if it breaks their spirit... its the most logical decision" he knew it wouldn't help even after he said it, but he hoped it would, it was his sister after all.

She didn't move, she simply looked once more at the scrolling statistics. "Give a show of force then." She looked over the map, and pulled up a single area it was hot with military activity, obviously one of the enemies main locations. "Fire here, destroy this base.. Then.. See if they still want to fight. Show them we are willing to kill them all without mercy, but give them a chance. There are billions of combatants? Billions of potential recruits, for the army, and our sons and daughters alike."

'billions of slaves for the forges' flashed through his mind, followed by thoughts of his artificial army. a new soldier at least as powerful as a space marine but only taking days to produce rather than years... If only father could understand... Galvan shook his head, "its too small, they are a resistance force, not a true military. They have splinter cells in every hive and bases all over the planet. destroying the isolated bases would only remove... 30% of the fighting ability." he finally said, his voice touched with a hint of annoyance which is extremely uncharacteristic.

"You can try, it won't hurt to try. Galvan, I'm not going to let you do this." Farah spoke through clenched teeth as her grip tightened on her brother's shoulder. "I won't let you." She said it more like it was already a fact, than if she was threatening. She knew she was on his ship, but that didn't matter to her. "Listen to me, Father found me long before you, I have seen more... Trust in my judgement."

Galvan's eye twitched, only a fraction of a centimeter, but enough to be seen as he recalled how his legion was decimated when Rebels used nukes to blast the marines from their planet. only recently has he brought his legion back from the brink of extinction. He pulled away from her and stood facing the helm of his ship, looking out at the real surface of the planet. He produced a burst of static white noise, a command in binary code to several of his aides and servitors that Farah didn't understand. he looked at the floor of the hull "i'm sorry Farah, it must be done" he said at the same time commands began circulating on the vox to spin up the orbital bombardment weapons.

Without even a thought Farah's feet carried her to stand at her brother's back. Immediately her hand was on the back of Galvan's neck, and wrenched him backwards, and down so that his knees were bending. This was followed by a blow from Farah's fist across her brother's mouth, and nose to send him down onto the floor at her feet. "You fool! Idiot! Condemning them to die without even a chance to surrender! Sitting in your ship, and blasting them from orbit.. Coward!" She growled through her teeth, her fist raising again as she prepared to pummel Galvan's features further.

Surprised at the extremity of Farah's actions he didn't have the chance to react, but his mechanical tentacles clamped down onto the hull and pushed him up even while he brought up his hands to block any farther blows from his sister. Being accused of cowardice stung rather deeply however. "Cease your attack sister, it is done" he said once he regained his feet, even as he said the words dozens of heavy bombers where streaking towards the planet's surface while battleships and cruisers aligned themselves to start the bombardment.

"It's not done, you can stop it right now!" She swung her fist once more, but a member of the Nova guard had grabbed her arm. Slowly she turned her head, and stared at the Marine who had dared to touch her. Her fist was a blur as she cracked him across the jaw and sent him sprawling across the floor, the single punch rendering him unconscious. She then immediately turned to deliver that punch she had about to render unto her brother.

Galvan sighed as one of his marines was struck, he would live... probably, but he noticed Farah begin to turn back towards him. She was going to attack him again, he was sure, so he lashed out with one of the octopus arms trying to coil it around his sister's arm, rendering it immobile. With his arms of flesh he covered his face to catch the blow if his mechanical arm was too slow. He also heard a binary report that the bombers had started their attack run but the orbital cannons had not started yet.

As her arm became immobilized she frowned, and reached over to grab the tendril, and squeeze it till it shattered if he didn't stop her. Her eyes narrowed a bit. "Stop the bombardment now. Galvan, listen to the common sense I am giving you."

Galvan was becoming increasingly frustrated at the confrontation, 'why didn't she understand, they are just slav- Civilians.' Galvan thought to himself. 'All this could be avoided if FATHER would let me continue my research...' Suddenly furious he shoved Farah hard with both arms and one of his mechanical limbs sending her sliding away several feet on the smooth hull. "Begin the bombardment" he said with a fiery edge to his voice that Farah had never heard before.

For a moment, she was surprised, but only for a moment. And as the order to begin the bombardment was issued from Galvan's lips, she looked towards the planet. "I see." She slowly shook her head and started to walk from the bridge. "We will leave as soon as possible, and I will return to my fleet." She stops before leaving. "What a cowardly child of our father you turned out to be Galvan. Maybe you should have gone the way of the Ninth legion."

Galvan whorled on his sister, "You don't understand!" he shouted furious, now crossing the line of uncharacteristic to out right bizarre. "I have taken dozens of systems for father, one leaving my legion in ruin... there is a better w-.." he stopped himself before he said more knowing it would earn more rage from his sister and Father would surely hear of it if he said more. "I will not condemn my legion to ruin again, call it cowardice if you will.. but you are wrong"

She pushed the door open. "No you'll just condemn them, and yourself to being the very thing we seek to safeguard the Imperium against." Moving swiftly through the doors she let them shut behind her.

Galvan ground his teeth and turned to watch the main batteries pummel the hive to ash. He watched for several moments pondering the exchange, maybe she didn't know about the Artificial Intelligence project, maybe father wouldn't hear of that... the Emperor would scold him for razing a hive but that would pale in comparison to the fury the Emperor would bring if he caught wind of the project. He left the bridge and descended into his workshop, trying to remember his old research as he pulled a suit of terminator armor apart.

Tactics/Roles: Vehicle specialists, primarily siege and orbital tactics. They will combine Artillery and orbital bombardment with an ever advancing line of tanks and other combat vehicles to grind an enemy to dust. They combine their forces heavily with the Imperial Guard making an unstoppable wall of tanks and super-heavy tanks and a few Knight Titans. Because of this they have relatively few dedicated infantrymen, the Infantry marines are generally paired with many Imperial Guard soldiers, 5 Marine squad is usually paired with a 30 man platoon of guardsmen.

Traits/Ideology:
The Nova Guard are a cold bunch, their armor only being painted a simple base coat and grudgingly given some aesthetic trim. Which was only done at the Emperor's express order. They have a larger proportion of Techmarines than any other Legion who all train under the Techpriests of Novarupta rather than the more common training on mars. This gives them a quirk when compared to the Martian Techmarines. The nova Guard Techmarines are much less respectful of the great machines they work with, often forcing the machine spirit to work rather than offering prayers. The few Martian Techpriests that have joined the Legion are often disgusted by the practice, but work closely after battle when each and every Techmarine and priest work to restore the machine spirit to its ideal.

the many Techmarines and priests, many of whom take after their Primarch, endlessly tinker with augments or machinery. Because of this a great deal of custom wargear has been distributed among the legion, some even making it into the hands of the Imperial Army attachments.

Also, yes, you can have Knights but I wouldn't say have them as a part of your legion as much as you can have them as part of the Mechanicus detachment/auxiliary you have. Talvyrn has his own Knights as more of an Imperial Army supplement since I'm planning for him to be High King of a house.

OK, that sounds good. Since I'm going chaos I'll leave the idea of besties or enemies up to you.

They will be mechanicus auxiliary then. However they won't be knights in the traditional sense of feudal worlds but rather Skitarii Knight Titans.

Name: Baron Fulgunthur Xiphos, the Principled

Gender: Male

Homeworld: Orbiting around a cluster of smaller stars is the planet Valaks-- the second of after Bessa. This Desert World is mostly barren and devoid of surface fauna life. The majority of its flora is a strange conch-like plant that seem to dominate dry soil. Fauna life is mostly underground-- where ferocious sandwyrm colonies would emerge and terrorise settlements seemingly at random. Vile locusts or land shark swarms swallow unprotected biological life that dares to enter its territory. Signs of previous settlement could be found across Valaks; suggesting that a previous intelligent lifeform had once inhabited this planet. After centuries of careful adaptation, it primarily became a trading/brokering world. Fulgunthur and his Legion of Soldiers are the pious enforcers of the land.

Alignment: Loyalist. Fulgunthur possesses faith and reverence to the God Emperor like no other. He will embody the will of the God Emperor, his sword, shield and his contempt.

Fate: Death in the protection of the Emperor-- perhaps by a Traitor?

Severance the Revered - A powerful Sword that has the capability to cut the toughest of materials known to mankind and hurl energy waves with each swipe. Blessed with the blood of the Emperor himself-- it seems to shine a bright light when combating daemons.

Bulwark of Principality and Glory - The Venerated Power Armour most would associate as sacred and reverent. Produced from the finest of Ceramite and crafted by the most skilled of artisans in order to embody the glorification of the God Emperor.

Skills:

Fulgunthur Xiphos' countless years of mastering his sword dismemberment skills make him a formidable, if not unstoppable force to be reckoned with-- matching to only the Emperor, Farah and Gideon. Coupled with Severance's immense capabilities-- many foes would fall with a single strike from Fulgunthur. However, when battling tougher opponents, he employs the art of Dismemberment to cut his adversaries limb from limb prior to delivering the killing blow. He can also enter a state of trance in battle that increases his focus and observation as he mows down foe after foe.

Should he find himself in a position where he is unable to engage the enemy, he is able to channel energy in form of a Lightning Bolt to strike down his enemies from a distance. He is also able to project a Psychic Force Shield around him that absorbs ranged weaponry.

Personality: Almost among every person who has personally met with Fulgunthur can only describe him with one word; Vindictive.

Your Primarch's character traits, their positives and negatives, their highs and lows, where they excel and what their flaws are. Remember: the Primarchs are human, and yet far beyond human, capable of far more intensity than any mere mortal in all of their emotions. In other words, they're almost literally larger than life, and should be portrayed as such. Their most defining traits should be easily recognizable.

History: The story of your primarch's life before and after they were picked up, what they did during the Great Crusade and what ultimately causes them to fall to Chaos if they do. Any notable achievements should be listed here and more importantly, what the meeting between the Emperor and your Primarch was like. You don't need to give conversation but keep it sort of like a third person overview.

Relations: Basically what is your stance on the Emperor? Your Primarch siblings? Any other random people you have a connection with? Do you have any Primarchs you really like or despite completely? Remember, they don't have to end up on the same side as you do to be your best friend here and nor does the people you hate have to be on the opposite side. I encourage people to go beyond the Loyalist/Traitor lines here when selecting friend (who should obvious match up to some degree with you).

Once again, here to bug you guys, don't worry its not something too major.
Just clearing up a bit of the CS guide after talking to Yen that the "Fate" part of your CS isn't set in stone:

Fate: Basically what becomes of them. Do they die in the events of the heresy? Do they live on to see the rebuilding of the Imperium/start of the long war? Where and why do they fuck off to in the search of object X for reason Y that all primarchs seem to love to do. This is more of a "possible predetermined destiny" but it can still change or be altered so take it with a grain of salt.

@ClocktowerEchos Now, regarding the whole fate thing... in 40K canon, Malcador the Sigillite sacrificed himself upon the Golden Throne to keep the Astronomican functional whilst the Emperor fought Horus. But of course, the only reason that was necessary is because Magnus broke the wall keeping all the daemons out of the Emperor's pseudo-Webway, and so far, Oph appears to be the only psyker Primarch... that said, if Ophiuchi manages to break the wall too, I'm wondering if he might wind up sacrificing himself on the Throne instead as a means of redeeming himself, or at least making the offer so Malcador doesn't have to. Then again, I'm not sure if he'd even be powerful enough to do so, since Magnus needed a boost from Tzeentch to do so in the first place, and he was also using Sorcery that Ophiuchi wouldn't even consider as a valid option. So maybe not, after all... I ought to think about that.
