The first step, was rope of some sort. It didn't need to be long - only a about a foot or two would be good enough for her purposes. Plant fibers could easily be made into simple, sturdy if not entirely refined rope. Trees were an excellent source of this - the fibrous materials underneath the bark and wood provided excellent materials. It was a good thing she ended up in a forest. There were trees everywhere.
For about the next hour, Charlotte went about inspecting various trees for dead bark. It was easier to pull the fibers from dead pieces of bark, and it would be less harmful to the tree. She decided it'd be best to go ahead and collect more than she'd likely need as well. Extra rope would always come in handy. She made sure not to venture too far from the cave, getting lost would be a terrible idea plus the area seemed fairly safe, and aside from a few birds it seemed there weren't any dangerous wildlife aside from a certain annoying humanoid. After collecting the fibers Charlotte went about making them into rope. Making usable lengths of rope wasn't too difficult, and after about a half hour and letting the rope unravel a few times she had four, fairly sturdy two feet long lengths of rope at her disposal.
After rolling them up and stuffing them into one of her many pockets she set about finding a good sturdy rock. A river nearby would prove to be the easiest place for that, most likely. A good, smooth, and sturdy stone. The one they had crossed multiple times already would be the best place to look for one. With rope in hand, Charlotte set off. She'd need two rocks. One for the blade, and one two make the blade with.
After arriving at the river, locating two decently sized rocks didn't take long. She spent the next hour or so making the blade of it. Sharpening a stone in such a manner was not something she had done before, but after a few attempts and few times of hitting her fingers she managed to make a decently sharp blade. Now she just needed a good, sturdy stick to secure it too. Taking the new axe head with her, she walked back into the forest and easily found a decently sized limb and headed back to the cave.
After making sure the axe head was secure to the handle by tying three of the four cords to it, she gave it a few experimental swings against the ground. The newly made axe gave a surprisingly satisfying whump noise as it met the ground. Good! About three hours later she had made good progress. Well, maybe not good progress - but progress. It was getting rather late, admittedly, but she still had time. Now it was for the hard part.
Cutting down a tree.
This, was a physical ability the likes of which Charlotte had never done before. The trees didn't seem too big - at least not like the massive, old, oaks that one sometimes found in the forests around Astril. Even so, it was not something that was going to be easy for her to do.
Well, the only thing she could do was get started.
She walked over to a decently sized tree and after taking a quick look around, she brought the makeshift axe to the trunk and started cutting. If she had even registered Cait's presence throughout this entire thing, Charlotte didn't show any signs of it.
