This rp would take place in a mythical world similar to modern day with some key exceptions such as the presence of magic, daemons, higher deities, and a few advancements in technology. And to be quite honest, I’m not good at pitching an idea in a paragraph or two, so please check out the sections I’ve made to explain the world and the story that would play out! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

*Looking for committed roleplayers that will be willing to help form the story with me

Setting
The world of Unitatis is comprised of three continents: Fortitudo, Temperantia, and Iustitia. The northeastern land of Fortitudo possesses a powerful crystal, which was gifted by the gods in antiquity to the reigning Elisium dynasty. Temperantia, located in the south, is made up of islands and has been annexed by the Iustitian empire, which lies to the west and benefits from its advanced technology. The province of Sapientia is under Iustitia's control, but maintains some autonomy due to the presence of the oracle, a priestess who has the power to fight a plague that turns people and animals into vicious daemons. Watching over Unitatis are the divine beings that can appear in the mortal realm, usually as colossal and powerful beings known as the Deorum.
For hundreds of years Fortitudo and Iustitia have been at war. While many lands have been lost to the empire, the Fortitudan capital of Somnium remains untouched due to the Murus, a barrier maintained by the king and the crystal's magic. Peace talks have begun in hopes of bringing an end to the conflict, one of the conditions being a marriage of Prince Adam and Lady Eliana, the oracle.

For the most part, the story will focus around our heroes venturing around the world during this time of war in hopes of finding a way to turn the tide back in their favor. There will be side stories that mix into the main plot as well, such as the curious existence of daemons in the world. I also have a general idea of where I would like the story to go, but I would greatly like for participants to actively give ideas and help form the story along with me. We’re all participating, so it would be more fun to make a story we’re all happy to be a part of.

Our Heroes' Story
Adam Elisium, a powerful mage due to his lineage, travels to the capital city of Temperentia, where he is to meet his childhood friend, Lady Eliana. During the trip, he learns the Iustitian empire has attacked his home, the City of Somnium, killed his father as well as stolen the sacred crystal. Together with his friends and assigned protectors, Adam seeks out members of the Royal Guard who may have survived to aid them in the battles to come. Little does he know that this will take him and his friends on an adventure all across Unitatis with many battles to come.

I would be playing Adam Elisium as well as some other NPC’s that would come and go throughout the rp. I am looking for 3 other characters (1 character per participant, and then NPC’s later down the line depending) to be his close friends and assigned protectors. Each character would, of course, have their own unique set of skills, whether it be magic, weaponry, etc. I really don’t have any restrictions when it comes to magic or weapons, although just keep it realistic to an extent. AKA the character cannot be indestructible/invincible. On top of their strengths, the characters should have very notable flaws and weaknesses. For example, though Adam Elisium is a powerful mage who is capable of powerful spells and a large variety of them. That being said, he has very minimal physical combat skills, and his cockiness often leads to openings and, essentially, dumb mistakes. (I will be putting up a CS for this character soon, just touching up some things).

That's perfectly fine! I figured anything from swords to guns would be perfectly fine.I have a rough CS made up for my character if you want an idea of how to make the CS.

Cool! Sounds good to me, I'm gonna put my character's CS in the first post to use as a reference for how to make a CS if you'd like. ^_^

@SaberClass4242 How does your character not know about the attack on his city in a world where you can browse the internet on a smartphone?

The idea I had as of right now was sort of a claims of making a peace treaty and a betrayal during the meeting. Or something along those lines.

@SaberClass4242 Hmmm, okay. I think you should expand further on the world design, cause it seems a bit foggy still.

@SaberClass4242I feel you should give all of those magical elements their own section. I get some idea of what they do from Adam's CS, but a full explanation would be welcome.

In the mean time, is all magic elemental? If so, if one was going to conjure or summon an inanimate object, like, say, a sword, what element would that fall under?

@Fisticuffs
There are a few things that can happen, depending on which set of laws of physics you are basing the summoning/conjuration on: the physical laws or the magical laws.

In the physical laws, mass is conserved. Therefore, the sword can either be created using nearby matter(manipulation/creation) or summoned(transported from one location to the other).

Creating the sword via manipulation can work by drawing out the carbon and/or other metals from the surroundings and condensing them into a single mass. The "Creation" method would likely use Earth magic, but may require background knowledge on the periodic elements.

Summoning the sword will likely be more difficult, as it would require the sword to be broken down into energy, transferred, and rearranged into its previous state without any loss; the existence of magic will likely help in achieving this. Alternatively: the distance between point A, where the object currently is, and point B, where the object is being summoned to, can be shortened by manipulating space until the points meet, making the transfer instant. The "Transference" method likely uses Aether magic, as it can manipulate pure energy(like light)and move it along a path. The "Blink" method likely uses Void magic, as it requires space itself to be manipulated. Both are(in my opinion) significantly more difficult to achieve than the "Creation" method.

If we assume that summoning/conjuration follows magic's laws, then the sword "does not exist"; mana does not have matter, and is merely used to imitate the properties of matter.

Therefore, in order to use the "Conjuration" method, one must have an exact understanding of the properties of the object being summoned; living creatures are much harder to summon, as the ego is not so easily imitated.

-----
Mana exists in two states, "Law" and "Chaos". Mana in the Law state is usually bound to physical objects(gems, people, etc), and will often cause atmospheric mana to shift towards Law. As a result, beings with sensitivity towards changes in mana can detect when a presence with a high Law characteristics(in other words, objects with large amounts of stored mana) are nearby. Atmospheric mana will always be in the Chaos state. However, there are exceptions to these rules that result in certain phenomenon.

In order to cast magic, Law mana inside the body must be agitated into the Chaos state. The Chaos mana is then expelled from the body, centered around a Law "core". However, the Law mana that makes up the core is unstable due to not being bound to anything physical, and thus the "image" of the spell becomes necessary for the magic to travel any significant distance. One's ability to visualize the core often determines their aptitude towards certain types of magic.

(Summoning is unique in that summoned objects or creatures are separate from the image of the caster--they themselves are the concept used to shape the mana. Summoned creatures' self-conscious existences are similar to that of the Deorum--concepts with egos, albeit less powerful.)

Normally it is impossible to bind Chaos mana to an object. However, there are two exceptions:

By engraving certain symbols on an object, it is given increased Law characteristics that forcibly anchors Chaos mana to it. The symbols also provides "imagery" to the mana, similarly to how reading a description can invoke an image in one's mind. Should any of the symbols be damaged, the stored mana will explode(Summoning circles must be perfect, or else the summoning will fail).

The existence of monsters are the second exception to the rule. Chaos mana will shift violently while confined to a vessel; if the vessel is living, the mana will cause rapid growth, creating a monster. For this reason, engraving symbols onto a living being is considered a forbidden magic.

well, it goes something like that
(I guess)

@Rice Porridge

Hm, well if you put it like that, physically creating a sword sounds a great deal more badass than merely summoning it. Maybe I'll go Earth.

Or maybe I'll forsake combat and conjuration and make him a dedicated healer. Decisions, decisions.

At any rate, thank you for the information. Even if you did torture my poor, old eyes with that tiny-ass typeface ;)
