Something I've thought about giving a go for a while, because I'm curious to see if other people have similar "secrets" to me per se.

The idea behind it is to have a "cardboard confessions" type of thing, where we can post confessions about weird or curious habits or thoughts we happen to have while plotting, roleplaying etc. I guess? This could be anything from unpopular headcanons/pet peeves to the tendency to lurk in threads you're not a part of just to follow the story etc.
Let's keep it civil and not use this thread for bashing each other, either. You can disagree with someone or think that their opinion/habits are odd, but you can do it without being an asshat, mm'kay? Good.
Disclaimer: Asshats will be taken prisoner and sacrificed to Mahz next time there is a server crash and/or bot invasion. :')

I'll start!

Roleplayer Confessions #1:
I get so attached to some of my roleplay threads when the plot, characters and/or setting are SO GOOD that I am paranoid of it being lost forever if there's another Guildfall, so I copy the posts over into a Google Docs file, which has a backup Word document that is backed up onto a USB stick which is a copy of the backup on an external hard drive....yeah, I know that's excessive but I REALLY don't wanna lose these threads! ^^; XD

Roleplayer Confessions #2:
I kill characters off for dramatic effect and/or character development for other characters, then immediately regret the decision and end up missing being able to write for the dead character, so I write out a plethora of "Alternate Universe/Endings" in my head, where I change the way the plot goes to keep that character alive and experiment to see how the plot would have differed

Roleplayer Confessions #3:
I always make music playlists for all my long-term threads/roleplayers, these playlists contain songs which remind me of the characters/plot/setting and I always play them while working on posts or plot ideas to keep my brain "in the zone" for that particular thread.

Roleplayer Confessions #4:
I frequently doodle pictures of my roleplay characters and sometimes my partner's characters if there is a scene I find particularly impactful, even though I don't always post them in my Art Dump or show them to my partners. Sometimes I'm too embarrassed to admit that I'm nerdy enough to get so attached to characters that I compulsively doodle them ALL THE TIME so I just don't say anything XDD

Roleplayer Confessions #5:
I don't have my own thread in the character sheets gallery thing, because I'm too paranoid that people would either: a) hate my precious brain children for whatever reason and bash them mercilessly or b) heavily reference the backstories/relationship dynamics I have set up for my characters and use them for their own. Now I know this one is more silly because no OC is 100% original, I've drawn inspiration for mine from books, movies, games etc. that I've played but I try my hardest to give them my own unique twist and it would break my heart to see someone else plagarise ANY of my characters entirely because I treat my OCs (some more than others) like my children and I'm very protective of them

Roleplayer Confessions #6:
About a year ago when I joined the Guild, I created a brand new character for use in a 1x1 RP with a VERY simple basic concept, and didn't really plan much else of her backstory etc. out....I just "winged it" and let her write herself. In 3 months I was more in love with her as a character, and felt she was better fleshed out than some of the OCs I created back in 2006 when I was 10 years old

Roleplayer Confessions #7:
I have since "abandoned" most of those 2006 OCs to instead write more with this band of new characters that spawned from that silly, spur-of-the-moment concept....I've tried to feel even a little bit guilty about liking the new characters more. I don't. I think the old OCs secretly hate me and might plot my demise.

I don't RP canon characters often, especially the ones with complex personalities. I'm always paranoid I might accidentally make them act OOC. I do play canon characters without much of a personality, but then I'm afraid of clashing with someone else's headcanons.

Roleplay Confession #1:

I sometimes get nervous when I end up in a large group of roleplayers in one thread. I can post and RP just as well as every other person, but I can be hesitant with a lot of people, especially when the RP is moving faster than I can reply. There ends up being way too much for me, and my brain kind of fizzles out in the process.

Roleplay Confession #2:

I have a large character art stash on my computer, but since I watch anime a lot, the majority of it is anime-styled artwork. Out of all my characters so far, only one isn't like the others.

Roleplay Confession #3:

Like #3, I also have several text files with names I've created or found through a generator. I save them for later characters, but I'm sure some of them I'll never use despite finding them interesting.

Roleplay Confession #4:

I find character sheets to be interesting but tedious. They can take a long time to create, and I've put their creation off for a later time before, but it always feels good to see your ideas and imagination flesh out a character in the end.

Roleplay Confession #5:

This isn't really a confession, but more something I've noticed. Out of all my RPs, the ones that had died or I had dropped out of start with "The" in their name. If you believe in curses, it might just be one, but ultimately I think it's just GM/Player activity or my own decision.

Guilty of these two. Especially the first one. (8tracks.com is like my second home.)

@Sherlock Holmes Glad to know it's not just me! XD Although I didn't like 8tracks very much because of its restriction that you can only have...I think it's 2? songs from the same album and/or artist per playlist because of copyright, and most of my OC's/plots have far more songs than that from the same album and artist that apply to them D: so alas, I have to use my phone.

Would be awesome if there was another site similar that I could use to share the playlists on though XD

Roleplayer Confessions #8:
Well...this is technically "fanfic-writer" rather than "roleplayer" but since I use them as roleplay characters it still counts XDD:
When a crackship between two of your OCs which you decided to give a go just for the LOLs/for the sake of some character dev/fleshed out backstory for them, actually becomes your OTP of all your OCs. Oops.

Roleplayer Confessions #9:
When I was younger, I would pretend to be sick (and somehow my parents believed me...) in order to skip school so I could spend the day roleplaying with friends online. (tell me ONE person who claims they didn't...I dare you o.o)

I've taken on way too many projects at the same time sometimes, but I still refused to drop them because, goddamnit, they're good projects. This has lead to me crashing and burning in some cases or being unable to write quality for everything as there's so much to get around to. Still, even during these down periods I refuse to give up on them, even if it causes me to be silent for a week- sometimes two.

I also may be way more tempted to cheat in stuff than I lead on. Thankfully I can avoid doing so in 95% of the cases, but I'm not a perfect role model by any means.

Roleplayer Confessions #10: sometimes I get really self conscious if I'm asked to play as a canon character that I'm unfamiliar with and/or to "bunny" as somebody else's character for a while because I'm worried that I won't portray them correctly and end up "messing up" that character forever ;-;

Roleplayer Confessions #11: I have made myself cry writing really emotional posts and/or scenes for Roleplays or fanfics before

I hang around casual, but I see these people typing up five to seven paragraphs.

Meanwhile, I'm sitting here with two to three paragraphs because I like getting to the point of the post and not stuff it with fluff. Not saying all who type a lot use a lot of fluff, but still, I like to keep it short and sweet without resorting to one-liners.

I have a tendency to take on too many projects because I want to write right now! Then I get swamped when my initial enthusiasm passes.

I'm so god damn arrogant and narcissistic that I periodically reread all of the posts I've made thus far in my favourite RP. Whilst I reread I pretend to be a stranger who's reading my posts for the first time. Unsurprisingly, they're always amazed by them.

In reality though I'm just a padawan learner in the RP arts. To be anywhere close to competent would require me to get at least an undergraduate degree in creative writing.

Same. I keep all my notes going back to 2009 in one place, but I have since upgraded to decent notebooks rather than loose pages.

Roleplayer Confession #1
-I hate restarting characters. When I create a character, I continue said character from the point they left off. If they move to another roleplay, the experiences are continuous. If I create a character, there is typically a connection to an existing character of mine. Multiverse logic is fine, they simply will not start over from scratch. I completely refuse to. This is my #1 quirk >.>

Roleplayer Confession #2
-I make little Q&A sheets for my characters and prefer that to hardcoding a character's personality, history, etc. Virtually all of my characters don't have a proper sheet, just those little Q&A things.

Roleplayer Confession #3
-I have over a thousand unused characters. By now, hundreds have died, never used in a public context.

Roleplayer Confession #4
-Playing canon characters is not the issue. My issue is playing them well. If I do not think I have a total understanding of a canon character, I will not play the canon character. 'tis rare for me to play a canon character unless said character is not fleshed out to the point where I can simply create the content.

Roleplayer Confession #5
-I love lore. That said, I hate joining roleplays with lots of lore, for much the same logic as above - there's too much for me to gain a true grasp of. In addition, the more in-depth it is, the more it moves away from my somewhat picky tastes. Kinda why I love Battletech, want to do a Battletech roleplay, and hate doing the actual roleplaying.

Roleplayer Confession #6
-I've been the source of a few dead threads and roleplays from the simple fact that once my interest shifts, I am unable to get back into the mood of the original interest for some time.

Roleplayer Confession #7
-There are two Sci-Fi contexts I like. The rest turn me off immediately or within a short period. One was a swiftly dead martian roleplay and the other was built using Starcraft 2's Cortex Roleplay as a foundation years ago.

Roleplayer Confession #8
-I stalk 1x1 threads and think some people are great roleplayers. Objectively, I think they would be on the same page as me. And then I think about writing, get self-conscious and never do anything. In case anyone who cares pah wonders why I look at their profiles too damn much.

Roleplayer Confession #9
-Going back to the original points, my characters are continuous, which means I age them and they eventually die. They do not sit in stasis unless they are immortal or close to immortal characters.

Roleplayer Confession #10
-This is the first time I've made a wall of the above things. I must be bored.

Roleplayer Confession #11
-Physical character descriptions are fluid for me; sometimes I change details in my mind and consider that canon until the next time I change the given details. I'm usually unable to find a good image for characters because on one side, I have no artistic ability in most areas, and yet on the other I have a very specific image in mind that I'm not willing to pay to create (and at any rate, I'd piss the person I'm paying off by having demands for this detail and that detail after the outline is made). Names also change; one year a character goes by x name, another a character goes by Y name. Sometimes they don't have names at all, or even physical descriptions - just the core that I use to define all my characters.

Roleplayer Confession #12
-I must spend at least a day looking at a roleplay to know if my interest is going to last should it catch my eye. After a day, there's a higher chance I'll stay if I decide it is for me. If I create a CS for a public roleplay, I am then set on being in the roleplay. If I don't wait first, I'll make a CS, and then possibly withdraw in a few days.

Roleplayer Confession #1:
I have one character that is my #1 favourite and I have a tendency to eventually abandon all RPs that don't include them.

Roleplayer Confession #2:
I am annoyed by players who "only play females" or "only play MxF" or whatever their hangup might be. Even if I'm in the mood to play a role that complements their preferences, I find that most of the time they are too trapped in their little comfort zone to be quality RPers anyways.

Roleplayer Confession #3:
I don't care what the forum recommendations are, I don't consider anything less than 5 paragraphs to be "Advanced".

Roleplayer Confession #4:
I avoid RPs where the premise includes a lot of Japanese terminology.

Roleplayer Confession #5:
I hate character sheets.

I don't have much of my plots planned out. I have a direction but I leave it open to change depending on the road to getting there. So Im always thinking on my feet when Players make moves that will hinder my desired progress. Always improvising and using a bad or offsetting shift in pace to create a desirable and unexpected turn of my and my players contentment.

Imo the best way to try and run a roleplay, if you can manage it. Often rolling with unexpected changes can provide even better plot points, in my experience (though granted not always)

I don't know why, but most of the time, I make my OCs rather plain-looking and not over-the-top. I'm not gonna go for that white-haired violet-eyed lady in that awesome armor and great breasts, I'm just gonna go for your average looking brown-haired woman with plain clothes and not-so-great breasts. I don't know, I guess I just prefer playing Average Joe characters and slowly develop them into being not so average.
