Tai-fu wrath of the tiger though - Possibly one of the best beat-em-up/platformer hybrids I've ever played in my life.

I could be "that asshole" and point out the glaring inaccuracies about the series and how the Gunblade isn't even that absurdly big but instead I'm gonna have a sensible laugh at R=U getting called out because that shit was stupid.

RIGHT?! God, I remember arguing way too much with people who insisted that was canon. IIRC even the Ultimania was like "no lol".

Speaking of Final Fantasy, I'm going to admit that XV aside from being a massive disappointment at launch is also seriously overrated. Loved the characters, loved the idea of it, but terrible execution in my opinion. I've heard DLC has fixed a lot of things that I had a grip with, but I just can't forgive it at this time.

Underrated I'll uh...I think any of the other ones I can think of have already been said. Maybe Star Ocean: Til the End of Time? Or does the ending not make it count? Feel like the Star Ocean series in general never really got the love it should've gotten, at least with the earlier titles.

Eh, I'd say the unnecessary part comes in with the later versions of it up to and including the one that is just a plastic looking lightsaber toy. Once Squall and Revolver got upgraded to non PSX graphics, the sword was way more reasonable in size.

Star Ocean: Til the End of Time was the last good one imo. I dug the hell out of that game even with its totally messed up audio balancing at times.

Agreed. The 4th one (The Last Hope) had great gameplay but the rest of the game is super forgettable, the one after that was a disaster...

I can’t criticize 15 for trying something new, but it felt like the story was especially lackluster, the gameplay was only just ok, and the massive overworld was obnoxiously empty for its size.

Honestly I’m just sick of huge overworlds at this point. Final fantasy 12 had big areas, and travel was absolutely horrendous, but I think the game had so much more going for it in terms of story and characters. But 12 also feels like On of the more unique titlrs in the series with how different it is stylistically from most other games. It was like somewhere around XI and XII the series started to change. I think it was for the best, but XV barely even felt like a Final fantasy title to me. That and the most fun I had in that game was fishing.

XV is a good example of something that sacrifices gameplay and identity for cinematics. XII and XIII did thid too, with XIII being possibly the worst title to date imo

Star Ocean 1 & 2 are just 'Tales in Space' Till the end of time was alright, the last hope had better gameplay but worse characters. I've heard nothing good about 5.

Someone did a 4 part video explanation on why 13 was bad. It was fairly recent too, it was response to the counter- counter jerk that has been building since its release, I could post the videos but you'll never watch them, so i'll do my best to summarise what the vids cover when I have time.

Real talk I love Rockstar and I think they consistently make some of the highest quality games ever but why the hell is Red Dead Redemption considered masterpiece? It's a very stripped down GTA in a very pretty western setting. The voice acting is stellar, some of the characters are great and the presentation is top tier.

But why is it seen as a masterpiece? What is this game doing that no other game or no other rockstar game has achieved? The story really isn't that good, it's told very well and some of the characters are very interesting but the pacing has some massive problems and so much of the game feels like padding. Side content is almost non-existent, game-play is tight but fairly standard and the travelling is REALLY REALLY long and drawn out and boring, horse riding isn't fun enough to make traveling from town to town bearable on the 10th hour.

RDR is a good enjoyable experience but in no fucking way is it a masterpiece. The sandbox style that rockstar created is a masterpiece but none of the individual games really achieve that.
