Y'all were busy AF in the few hours that I was out.

Love the characters, and glad to see y'all thinking outside the box for powers.

@bluetommy2 Besides the question of why he wears something he thinks is ridiculous, Comet is great. A nice take on a speedster.

Mkay so this caught my attention and I've been monitoring the OOC and CS tab. With all those Epic and Freak powers flying around I've been considering a plain ol' normal human... Well... Maybe not plain and not that old But I can't help but wonder what would be the place of normals in this world full of Epics and Freaks. I mean are we all just trying to understand what happened to the world while we are all getting by as best as we can? I need a bit more in terms of the normal humans part of the story if I'm to create a character for one. So I can build background, personality... the deep stuff :)

@Regitnui It's all for the branding deals!

At least it's better than spandex.

@ihinka, normals are the backbone of the City, and the vast majority of the population. The actual staff of the city, workers, reporters, bankers, photographers... Basically the normals are the ones who deal with the most of the City. The normal people who can be apart from Epic or Freak issues and believes in the City.

Were I to run a Normal, I'd make a news reporter, someone who runs into all the dangerous situations involving Epics and comes out alive. Or a Batman analogue, who does the whole celebrity superhero thing to show up the vain Epics. Or a charity worker who actually does good for the poor, or a businessman whose fortunes rise and fall on sponsored Epics.

Does any of that help? Or am I just rambling in my sleep?

@bluetommy2 Very much better than spandex.

@Regitnui Just to be clear, Comet isn't going to be going full-speed every single fight, in fact it's kinda like a last ditch option, at that speed, his body barely gets away with it and hitting anything would be extremely painful and possibly crippling.

I'd say his top speed normally is around mach 5, when he's getting serious, I'd say anywhere from mach 10 to mach 100, possibly around 150 if he thinks he's in severe danger.

Just don't want him to seem too powerful is all. :)

@Regitnui Hm... That actually helps, yes... Although I definitely wouldn't go for a reporter. That profession never did appeal to me even if a have the education for it (or at least what counts for an education for a reporter in my country). I suppose I could go the Bats analogue route, but less the celebrity superhero more the help and vanish without a trace good Samaritan kind of feel.

Although the Bats idea appeals to my I kinda want her to be a regular person, accepting of the way the world has changed and trying her best to find her place in it. If the good Epics are there to help out with the big stuff, she would still want to help out with the little things. Like I said she wouldn't be that old, but she would have some years on her, mid to late thirties... So she could be this life-hardened and experienced woman helping with whatever she can. Could she be some sort of health worker... Do we still have normal human medicine? Or maybe a firefighter with EMT training... Law enforcement? My brain is running on fumes as well :) I should really go to bed soon.

Do our characters need to be in Epic city? Or will we all just be called somewhere?

@bluetommy2, yeah, of course.

@ihinka We have two people already involved in Rescue services, so I'd hardly say no.

@Lord Orgasmo, I would very much prefer if the characters were already in EC, but my character is a Mediterranean-ancestry girl from Chicago who's there to strike out on her own. Doesn't matter where you came from as long as you're in EC now.

is this based off of Steelheart? or is it just a coincidence

fucking loved those books

some ideas i had involve an age-related immortal who can't die from age or sickness, and can modify their outward age at will, or maybe just a general shapeshifter, but i'm flexible

a different idea is an epic who constantly keeps their weakness on them so they seem to be a normal person, either because they dont want to be an epic or because they're being stealthy until the right moment

@Mercenary Lord, takes some inspiration from that, as well as the Wild Cards universe. The Kryptonites are the Reckoners lacking a moral compass or sympathy, if you'd like to know the most direct lift. Either of those ideas sound good, but an immortal would only have had about three decades at most to figure that out.

@Regitnui OK, thanks... I'll start brainstorming her :) Maybe I'll have something by the evening.

Edit: OK, since I'm an idiot I'll have to start all over again, because I forgot I was editing a post and not writing a new post and switched pages >.<

Name: Teagan Hayes

Alias (if any): Smokey Bear, Samaritan

Age: 37

Faction: Normal

Personality: Teagan is a very calm. She gives off this Zen master aura and people usually expect her to talk in wisdom quotes. She is live-hardened, but managed to remain warm and gentle. She is a bit solitary by nature and might seem aloof at first, but once she warms up to you her demeanor changes. She used to be a bit of a daredevil in her younger years, but she has toned it down. However she would jump in danger without hesitation to help or to protect as is her nature. Those who get to know her very well discover some very unexpected characteristics to her.

Appearance: She's 5'8ish, medium build, fit and athletic. With jade green eyes and a rich mahogany hair, peppered with not few white and grayish hairs. At 37 and with her natural olive complexion she has visible crow's feet. She's got high cheekbones, a slightly crooked nose due to a nasty brake and her most favorite facial feature - two dimples. On her left wrist there is a see-through-the-skin type of tattoo representing the inner workings of her wrist and pinky finger in steampunk style. Her left eyebrow is bisected by a prominent scar as is her lower lip. The rest of her body is also peppered with scars, some small, some larger. Teagan prefers comfortable clothing and favors jeans, shirts, t-shirts, tank tops, sneakers, boots.

Background: Teagan was about seven years old when the world changed. At the time she was living with her parents, Martha and Rory Hayes, in her mother's country of origin. Which was located in Eastern Europe and Teagan doubted many people even knew it existed.

Her mother was a wildlife biologist and was doing a study on the indigenous fauna in the region and her father was a mountain rescue worker.

From a very young age Teagan learned to love nature and at the same time respect it. But after the Starburst reports started coming in about people with strange powers, freakish mutated animals and the likes and suddenly the world became quite dangerous for normal people. They stayed in her mother's country as long as they thought it safe and then started to move from place to place, trying their best to pick the safest region where to raise their child.

The constant moving from place to place, the turmoil in the world, the fights between Epics and Freaks, between good Epics and villainous Epics, her parents' love for nature and her father's constant desire to help people in peril molded young Teagan in the somewhat dare-devilish, brave and strangely shy young girl with a constant desire to help, a love and a healthy respect for nature.

When finally her family landed in the US, where it was relatively devoid of Epics and Freaks, young Teagan had the opportunity to pursue a career and a profession in a field that combined both her mother's love of nature and her father's desire to help people in danger. And so Teagan enlisted straight after colleague for training to become a Smokejumper. She poured all her youthful exuberance in her newly selected profession. She trained hard, studied as hard and worked even harder. The work was as rewarding as it was hard and harsh. She often wondered how people could be so careless as to unknowingly cause wildfires. She'd witnessed firsthand on numerous occasions how the nature she loved so dearly was destroyed in a flash.

This caused her to constantly volunteer to participate in awareness promotion programs, which was how she got her first nickname by her crew - Smokey Bear. She didn't mind it, because she knew it was used mostly with a tongue-in-cheek.

Being her father's daughter she was also SAR certified. On numerous occasions she would help her team, her partner or perfect strangers without even a thought of reward beyond a simple thank you, if even that. Her daredevil altruism in the line of duty and often even outside of it earned her her second nickname - Samaritan.

After the rise of the High and the establishment of Epic City Teagan urged her parents to relocate there, as she feared for their safety. Martha and Rory however refused to go without their daughter, and so the entire family picked up and moved, hopefully for the last time.

With her parents in relative safety within Epic City Teagan is in search of new opportunities, while also, in her free time, trying her hand out in something she'd always dreamed of doing. Writing.

I am not a creative man. But at the same time, I am not a man, either. I am but a boy.

So here's my lame excuse for a character sheet.

With Spectrum as my main character, are we waiting for anyone else? If not, we'll see the first IC post in a day or two. As soon as I've had time to write it.
