Alicia Hayden

Up on the rooftop of the community center, the lesson was going fairly well. Caren had provided a demonstration by firing off a couple arrows, and now they were firmly engaged in helping her solve her particular problem. Being a teacher wasn't something that Alicia did often, but she did the best she could regardless.

"Your hand is wrong," Alicia explained as she stood beside Caren, gently manipulating her fingers with the arrow that she now had strung. "It'll work better like this, cause it'll keep it from turning a bit off the launch." That was something she had struggled with a lot, but she would admit that there was more than one way to do it. It was all about finding the method that worked for you.

Caren nodded, looking down range and memorizing the feel of her current hold. "Okay. Is there anything else?"

Alicia shook her head, taking a step back so Caren had freedom to move and act. "Nope, go ahead and give it a try." She figured this had solved the problem, now they just had to make sure that it had done the trick. For that, it was all Caren.

With a nod, Alicia watched as Caren took a deep breath before letting the arrow fly. It was more accurate than before and slammed into the target on the other side of the room with good precision. Not perfect, but it was a step up, and Caren grinned at her success as she lowered her bow.

"See, I knew you could do it. Just have confidence, and don't think too hard about it," Alicia told her friend as she patted her on the shoulder. "You good for now?"

"Yeah," Caren confirmed with a nod. "You can go ahead, I'm going to do a bit more shooting." With that she raised her bow once again, while Alicia turned to had down back into the building.

Meanwhile, Suwako would find her salvation arriving as a window opened up and a girl with log red hair poked out "Oyyyy, Suwako!" Amelia called, waving to the other girl eagerly. They might not have hung out all that much, but she knew who the approaching girl was. Beacon wasn't that big after all.

After a few moments though her gaze traversed to see the kid approaching, and she took on a devious smirk as she called to the other girl once again. "Suwako, is that your boyfriend? He's kinda cute, even if he's on the shorter side." She had no shame, and ducked back inside before the anger and indignation could follow her. Well, that was one way to solve her problem.

Suwako looked upwards to see where the voice that was calling her came from. If she remembered correctly, her name was Amelia, and she was another magical girl employed by the Beacon. She wasn't that familiar with her. Not that she really got out of her way to know everyone in Beacon. She preferred keeping to herself, just doing her job as a magical girl on her own.

When Luke came to her however, Amelia asked if he was her boyfriend, clearly with the intention to tease her, before ducking back in from the window she was speaking from. She wasn't flustered at all however. This little runt? Her boyfriend? He was far too young for that.

Luke, however, had a different reaction entirely, as he quickly blushed profusely and shouted, "N-no! Onee-chan is just onee-chan! S-she's not my girlfriend at all!". Suwako wouldn't admit it in a million years, but she thought his reaction was quite cute.

"Onee-chan, was that your friend?" Luke asked her, after he had calmed down. "I've never met her before in school. A friend from a different school? Wow, onee-chan is really popular!" he said with his trademark pure smile. Really, even though he was just eight years old, that much optimism and naivete couldn't be natural. She imagined how he would be in a few years when he hit puberty. No doubt he would be popular with the girls, she thought.

She just hoped at that time he would have stopped his obsession with her, or else she would definitely get the ire of his fangirls.

"Yes, something like that," she replied to him. "I'm here to do a study session with her and a couple others, so here is where we must part ways."

"Aaw, can't I come too? Please please pretty please, onee-chan??" he said to her, taking a hold of her hands.

This time, he used that wounded puppy look. Combined with his natural cuteness, any normal girls and their mothers would have melted to his demand.

However, Suwako was not normal by any means of the word. So she wasn't really swayed by his assault.

"No, this is a girls only study session. Boys are not welcome," she replied sternly.

Luke immediately pouted hearing her response.

"Oh, don't give me that. It's not like we don't hang out every day at school," she told him the truth. "Don't be such a spoiled brat."

Now, Suwako looked positively angry. And when she did, Luke felt like he had been scolded terribly by his mother.

"A-alright, onee-chan..." he replied. "I-I guess I'll go home now then..."

Looking at him wearing such a downcast expression like he was about to cry would be break the heart of any normal girls who saw it. But once again, Suwako was nowhere near normal, so she just watched him slowly leave the center grounds, still with her stern expression.

"I-I guess I'll see you tomorrow, onee-chan..." he said one last time before he left.

After making sure that he was truly gone for good, Suwako finally was able to go inside the center. That took quite a while. She hoped her students hadn't waited for long.

The shop fight was going to start any hour now, as was the legendary Deni/Sue date. But Tonya had more scheming to do.

In particular, she needed connections. There were few people she trusted to make said connections with, as it was desirable that her presence be known by as few people as possible. But Aria had assured her that there were few people as tight-lipped as Veronica. So here she was, sitting in the pit stop, waiting for an arranged meeting with the ebon coin broker.

She didn’t wait long.

An overdressed woman sat across from Tonya. There was no doubt this red-clad woman was Vermillion Veronica. “That’s a pretty good disguise, I almost didn’t notice it was magic.”

”Few people do, but I guess I shouldn’t be surprised given who I’m dealing with.”

Veronica really was a good keeper of secrets. Even now, even with Tonya’s ability to know people’s desires and use that to her advantage, it didn’t help her figure this woman out at all. Veronica locked her fingers together and placed them on the table. “You do a very good job of hiding your identity. It’s rare I meet someone who I know so little about. You go by Mac, correct?”

”Yes, that’s fine.” Tonya had to choose her words carefully. Anything that she told Veronica could become Mint knowledge, and it was too early to start divulging those kinds of details. Especially if Veronica was going to defect later. If she was going to join them, it would be on her terms. ”I take my privacy seriously.”

“Perhaps, but that does make you hard to work with.” Veronica narrowed her eyes. “Why did you want to get in touch with us?”

”Actually, it’s kind of the opposite. I don’t want to get in touch with you.” She folded her arms and leaned on the table between them. ”What I would like to do is ensure that Mint knows as little about me as possible.”

“So you’d like the Mint to refrain from collecting information on you?”

”Exactly.”

“Hmm…” Veronica held her chin. “That is within my power. You’ve done a pretty good job of keeping to yourself, Though someone like you explains why I’m getting some strange reports. You’re smart to try and safeguard your privacy now, as it will not last long otherwise.” With a nod, Veronica lowered her hand. “Very well , what is your privacy worth to you?”

”I’m something of an information broker myself, actually.” Tonya smiled. ”I have a feeling you’d like to get Penny in the Mint’s employ. I have a pretty good idea you’re going to need magically charged metal to appease her. Four beams, three feet long, and six-by-six if you can manage. She’ll also want some gold plated tungsten and a military grade GPS chip, though I feel like those you could procure rather easily. I’ll even swing the Bate twins over to your side in the process.”

“Is that so?’ Veronica raised an eyebrow. “I’m afraid I do not have the same faith you do in your divination, doubly so due to your mysterious nature, so how about some collateral?” Veronica drew a contract out of thin air and placed it before Tonya. “I only use these documents for personal deals, so the Mint will have no idea this is even transpiring.” She pushed it towards the wolf woman. “Once you sign this document, everything I could possibly want to know about you will be written within. If I speak with Penny and she requests those items, you will have a week to procure them for me. Should she not want those items, or should you take too long to get them, well, the document will tell me everything about you. Otherwise, I will keep my word and refrain from mentioning you to anyone. As for the bate twins, maybe I'll throw in something nice for you if you can pull that off too.”

”I don’t plan on failing, so that’s fine with me.” Tonya scratched the back of her head. ”Uh, so when you collect my signature, mind biting me somewhere that won’t be too visible?”

Veronica smiled. “It’s fine, you will regenerate.”

Tonya did not see Veronica move. Nor did she feel the coin broker restrain her wrists. It even took Tonya a moment to register that Veronica had bitten into her armpit. Her pectoral twitched with pain, and her mouth swung open. Though Tonya didn’t scream. It was an unusual sensation though. It was rare for Tonya to get hurt due to the fact she hardly ever faced her opponents directly. But she refused to scream. Her dilated eyes scanned the diner, but it seemed like everyone was ignoring them. Veronica was a master of dark magic, and she must have been using that to keep them obscured from view. So she too had subtle magic. Though Tonya’s humiliation was private, she hadn’t ever felt this vulnerable.

When Veronica pulled away, she used the contract to wipe her mouth before returning to her regular demeanor. “I’ll see you when I need the materials, then.”

”Yea, maybe take me out to dinner first next time, alright?” Tonya stumbled to her feet and strut towards the exit. Her restorative magics were already mending her flesh.

While Alicia was coming down from the roof, Suwako was entering the building with her particular attachment long behind her. Of course one could not simply waltz into the part of the building that was for Beacon personnel specifically without hesitation, but such entry mechanisms were hardly surprising to anyone who had been with Beacon for some length of time. It merely involved the presentation of a magic laced identification card to a particular sensor, and the door would unlock. Not secret, just a bit more exclusive than open to the general public.

Past that she would enter into the same halls that Alicia had been in so recently. "Hey Suwako." She was greeted almost right off the bat by someone resting near the entrance, playing unofficial door girl even if she didn't need to. It was a nice way to get to know everyone though, as Vivian, a red haired girl with bangs covering one of her eyes nodded to the new arrival. "Cutting it a bit close aren't you? They're in Room B"

Room B was a smaller room, with a central table in the middle and a couple desks lining the walls. Computers sat ready and waiting for use, though only a girl with curly blond hair was using one at the moment. Other than that there were two other girls for the study session, waiting with books and paper out. The girl with short cropped brown hair and classes was currently doodling on a blank piece of paper, while the other was watching and chatting with her. She might have been late, but clearly they had found something to occupy themselves with.

The girl watching was naturally the first to notice her. "Hey Suwako," Clarissa said with a nod as she perked up. "Time to get going I guess." That drew the others, Etsuko at the computer and Helga at the table, from what they were doing. Etsuko moved over so she could sit down, ready to begin the studying session.

Suwako did her usual identification process before entering the building, getting out her magic laced identification card from her pocket and pressing it at the sensor. It looked just like your normal identification card, only that it wouldn't work if someone not working for the Beacon were to use it. It scanned for the magical trace of its user after all.

"Ah, hello Vivian," she replied to the redhead. "Yes, I just have a little... unexpected trouble that I need to take care off first before I can go here."

Once she arrived at Room B, she saw how her "students" had already been there, no doubt waiting for her.

"Apologies, everyone," she said to them as she bowed a little, her expression still her usual serious one however, "Something came up that I had to take care first before I can come here."

"Yes, let's go right away," she replied to Clarissa. "I think we shall start by learning math first."

Their lessons were done mostly by solving problems that they could see on their computers. When there was a difficult problem, then Suwako would teach them how to solve it. Of course, the program itself already had the answer written down, but it would just look like gibberish to someone who could not understand it. And that's where Suwako came in. She would explain to the class how to get to said answer step-by-step via the whiteboard available in the room.

The study session lasted for around three hours. Even though it was quite long, they were comfortable thanks to the casual atmosphere and how they could bring their own drinks and snacks unlike in a classroom. And they were happy too that Suwako was also willing to help them do any homeworks they might have. Suwako, of course, knew that there was a possiblity that they only joined the study session so they could get her to do their homeworks, but seeing how time-consuming the life of a magical girl could be, she couldn't really hold it against them. She was just lucky that she was blessed with a smarter-than-average brain.

"Well, I think that would be all for the day," Suwako said once they were finished. "It's night time already. I don't know about you guys but I have a patrol tonight, so I have to get home early."

Outside the classroom, she took out her phone and called for her driver to come pick her up. It wouldn't do for a young girl like her to go home alone in the night after all. And as usual, the driver came on time, so she didn't have to wait for long.

Once at home she quickly took off her uniform and went into the bathtub her maid had provided for her. Ah, how she loved the feeling. She never had the opportunity for this kind of indulgence in the orphanage after all. She felt all her muscles relax, washing away the tiredness she got from school and from her study session. She couldn't really stay there for long however, as she had dinner to eat afterwards and then the usual patrol.

At dinner, like most nights, her parents were not there to dine with her, as they were probably still busy doing their respective occupations. She wasn't bothered at all with it however. She even was thankful for that as it made it easier for her to sneak out to do her job as a magical girl.

After dinner, she told her maid that she was going to sleep early and that she was not to be disturbed. This made sure that no one would come in to her room and see the empty bed she left behind.

"By the power of Yggdrasil, I shall cleanse you all!"

She transformed to her magical girl form before leaving her room as usual, so that she could jump out of the balcony easily. She had been doing this for a while yet she still felt discomfort doing the transformation, as the spell left her naked for a few moments as it fitted her with her magical girl outfit. At least there was a light covering her body as she did the transformation.

As she stood on the balcony with her red knee-length hakama-like skirt blowing in the wind, she realized something important that she almost forgot.

This outfit of hers didn't include any underwear.

Apparently, when she thought up her costume, she forgot to imagine that little important piece of clothing. So now every time she transformed, her panties would get removed, leaving her with nothing down there. So she had to do wear one beforehand manually before she went out, resulting in her wearing double panties once she returned back to her civilian form.

...Now that she thought of it, last night, she had forgotten to wear a pair, thanks to the sudden alert signal summoning Beacon girls to the hospital.

She blushed at this revelation, but quickly reassured herself that no one would notice anyways.

Yep, no one would bother looking up skirts while in the middle of a battle after all.

Shrugging off the thought, she went back inside and took a pair from her wardrobe. After she wore them, she finally started her patrol run.

And so that was how an ordinary day of Suwako Makiyoshi went. It seemed busy, but Suwako was fine with it. It was a far improvement from her old life after all. And she liked jumping around buldings in the night, feeling the night breeze on her skin. Being in a fight doesn't bother her either, as when she first became a magical girl, the first thing she did was to make sure that she absolutely knew the limits of her own power. So now, she had confidence in tackling any enemy that she might encounter. She would also let out her owl familiar to fly beside her. The creature had better sight than her so he could spot things further than she could, thanks to its night eye. She could also use him as a chat partner, though it's mostly him talking most of the time. She just wished that the night would be a little warmer, as sometimes the cold wind kinda made her want to go to the bathroom before her shift was over. It's such a bother going back to her home and did her business there. There was no way she was going to just do it outside.

Her life went peacefully for the next week, with all sides involved in the conflict not making any moves. Or at least, any moves that the Beacon could know. Who knew what they were doing on the shadows?

The pit stop, as the name implied, was themed after the vintage race car era. The dinning area looked just like a 1950's dinner. The floor was covered in white and black checkerboard tiles. There was a juke box surrounded by pictures of vintage cars. Everything from a jaguar D-type to less memorable vehicles. The reception stand was on top of a good year tire, and most of the seating had that “go fast red” color. The pamphlet did make the establishment look a lot more grandiose than it actually was, as some of the furnishings showed signs of repair. Things like clear tape to hold down vinyl seat covers and off-color floor tiles weren't impossible to spot, but only really revealed themselves if you looked at them. The food at the very least looked exquisite, and everyone inside seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Except for one familiar named Sue. She had decided to show up early because that was what responsible people did. She decided that the silver loops looked better, but wasn't sure if maybe the gold studs would have stood out more against her hair. She also wore a low-cut black dress, but let Helga influence her into wearing a white shirt under it to appear more modest. Sue wondered if maybe her modesty would be seen as not trying hard enough. Should she have done something with her hair? Would she even come? Sue could only hold her human form for a half hour. At this rate, she wouldn't even be able to get through dinner! She gave the clock on the wall another panicked look, wondering why she hadn't shown up yet. The waitress had already checked up on her twice, and she was sure the third time she'd be asked to leave. Sue knew that Amber had called Lily, and it would be disappointing if Lily and Alexander showed up when Sue was empty handed. Not that Sue's main goal was to even arrange their meeting. Sue had a much more personal goal in mind when she made that wish.

A single individual walked inside the restaurant, looking around with an interested look in her red eyes. Visibly, she was a girl in her late teens, with long dark hair hanging around her a little wildly and top tied into whatever's on the lower image. She was wearing a black and red blazer over a white t-shirt with a big heart on it, a pretty large chest under said heart and intentionally showing cleavage. A pink skirt covering her lower body, a black ribbon tied around her waist, a red ribbon in her hair on the top, and a grin looking around the room.

She quickly located someone she recognized. With a grin and without waiting for a waiter, she marched around so that she could come at her from behind, because there's no way they'd know who she is when she looked like this. So, she walked around... to then lean in right beside Sue's ear with a grin, whichever side was more outside.

‘Hello, there~!’ She smirked at Sue. ‘So, it's just you? They did say the bird sent it, specifically, but...’ Then she blinked in realization and began to give Sue's clothes and hair a REALLY close-range look over, with an interested stare, at way close a range, moving her head to look over each part of her clothes and hair.

Sue was of course startled by the sudden appearance of the woman. “Um.” Sue remained seated, giving the newly arrived just a quick scan with her eyes. “Bird? Then you must be...” It would seem that the familiar was going entirely in the wrong direction with her choice of attire. Something casual or playful was probably more appropriate for a meeting like this. But she remained silent, unsure of what to say.

‘Hey, you look good. You prepared yourself specifically for us? I'm touched! Makes me feel a little bad I didn't prepare myself better... Oh, wait!’ She grinned, and suddenly from nowhere, a pair of red shiny jeweled earrings dropped from her ears, the color matching her blazer and ribbon. She then grinned more. ‘Do they look good on me? I bet they look good! I totally look good! Hahaha!’ She laughed as she sat down next to Sue.

“Y-you look very good!” Sue spoke practically without thinking. But she was quite attractive. The familiar put on a nervous smile. Sue had expected to sit across from everyone, so it was a little surprising to have someone sit beside her. None of this was going like she planned it. But the girl switched up her outfit, that was a good thing, right? “I-I'm sorry, which one are you?”

‘Teh-heh~!’ She smiled and looked happy at the compliment, sitting beside and having her head turned to Sue. Then, at Sue's next question she looked around and pouted a little. ‘So, the pirate isn't here, is she? I had a totally hilarious way to introduce myself thought out...’ She then shrugged and smiled to Sue, extending a hand to shake. ‘Okay, I'm Deni. Pleased to meet you~!’ She said. Sitting next to Sue instead of opposite was very intentional to make it so there was no barriers between them.

Sue took Deni's hand. “I-I'm Sue.” Sue did not shake Deni's hand and in stead just held it. She lifted her other hand up and gave it a soft squeeze. “I'm sure you can introduce yourself to Amber later.” Was sue starting to blush? This was so embarrassing! “A-anyway, Deni, are you one of the winged girls, or are you the bunny girl? I'd love to hear more about you.” Of course Sue was half panic talking. She had heard Mariette's name before, she just couldn't think properly being so close to Deni.

Deni smirked, watching Sue's reaction to things, as her hand was being held. At the question, Deni grinned and demonstrated. ‘I'm one of the winged and slimy girls.’ She said, while the hand Sue held suddenly became black fluid and seeped between her fingers as Deni lifted the arm and reformed the hand above Sue's hands, poking a finger on Sue's nose. ‘Sorry, the mistress is too wary of ambushes to show up in person.’ She said in a slightly somber-sounding tone.

Sue pulled her head back whe Deni touched her nose. “O-oh, I guess that makes sense.” She tried not to sound dissapointed.

Deni tilted her head and looked inquisitively at Sue at that. ‘But it's her you wished to speak to, really, wasn't it? As sweet as it is that you want to know about me... You have a time-limit, don't you?’ She giggled at the end of that.

Sue let out a groan, though it was so weak one might confuse it for a whimper. “Not necessarily, I-I'd be happy anyone came really. But you are correct, I don't have much time.”

‘Teh-heh. It's fine. It might just be your lucky day.’ Deni giggled and told her. ‘If it's just you... then it should be fine. Let's waste no more time.’ Deni said to Sue before lifting her own left hand, giving Sue an amused glance, and then plunged said hand into her own stomach, intentionally widening her eyes in a way only a shape-shifter could to look more crazy while still looking at Sue. The shirt and stomach spread into dark fluid, her hand entering without problem. It may have seemed risky among these common people, but as anyone with Third Eye could tell, there was stealth-based Darkness-magic in play. Deni giggled at Sue, her eyes returning to normal, as she pulled out a hand-mirror and a pedestal for it from within herself, all her slime just running off the items and then reshaping her stomach and shirt.

‘Gaze into the mirror, will you?’ Deni suggested with a playful voice as she placed the mirror onto the table in front of Sue. The pedestal first, and the pedestal had a hole in which the bottom part of the hand-mirror was inserted, all to place the mirror on the height so that Sue could look at it from natural sitting height.

At this point a waitress approached the table. “Oh, looks like your company showed up.”

“Ehe heh heh.” Sue laughed nervously. “Yea, let's have some uh, onion rings for an appetizer. We'll also have two cokes. Is that okay with you Deni?”

‘Totally fine with me! And oh! Get me some tater tots!’ Deni called to the waitress with an excited smile.

The waitress nodded and walked off. Sue started to look into the mirror.

At first, it was but a regular mirror, showing her face back at her. But then... the surface shimmered, and an opening started to form. And then, looking through the mirror, she could see a different room. A room with damaged walls and damaged furniture, a specific sofa placed just opposite of Sue's position. There she sat. Still in the same dark dress, long white hair, eyepatch and looking pretty much exactly the same as always.

Mariette sat on a sofa at a table, in an abandoned apartment across the city. In one arm she held a stuffed bunny, clutched to her body. The hand of said arm was stirring in a cup held by the other hand using a spoon. She looked exceedingly uninterested in the person that might be peeking in, very much more focused in the contents of the cup. While the illusion wasn't perfect, the distance to Mariette through the portal was visually spot-on the distance away she'd be from Sue had she been seated opposite to her in the restaurant, just only visible through the mirror. The table mimicked the table on the restaurant's side as well, looking like an extension of the same table.

Then finally, Mariette's eyes turned to gaze at Sue, looking at her intently. She didn't speak a word yet, just staring. Sue summoned her, after all, then the familiar should be the one with words to say.

Of course Deni had sat down beside Sue, opposite was Mariette's place, even if it wasn't directly. Deni grinned.

And if anyone's wondering, Eli's currently hidden by Darkness-magic somewhere near the restaurant, scouting for potential threats with Third Eye.

Sue started to smile. “Oh cool! It's like a video call!” She clapped her hands together. “I bet this is how Amber felt when she talked to the CEO on a laptop.” The familiar didn't realize how terribly strange that sounded until she said it. “So anyway...” Sue reached into a pocketbook “It might be a little to romantic for the occasion, but...” She pulled out a small candle on a pedestal and placed it between the mirror and herself. “I think we should do some mood lighting!” Sue had a small lighter that she was going to light the candle with. Sue hit the striker with her thumbs a few times, and eventually a flame was lit.

Mariette merely raised her eyebrows a little at the first statement, and Deni giggled a little. Still, onto the actual matter. Deni was all smiles and Mariette was all stares... when Sue pulled out the candle. Mariette's gaze focused in alarm at the object, and Deni's expression made a complete change from enjoying the scene and grinning to slightly panicked uncertainty, leaning away from her. When Sue reached out and was going to try to light the candle...

Deni practically threw herself the short distance between them and gripped the hand with the lighter in her own, her hand turning into black fluid around the lighter to quench it. Other than that, Deni would now be leaning over Sue, pretty much, more than part-way off her own chair. She looked in panicked alarm at Sue, gauging her expression to see if she understood what she was about to do or if it was a coincidence.

Mariette was trying to calm herself on the other side, silently gazing and trying to turn her glare back into a stare. Deni's action had spoken plenty, however.

Sue was of course, a bit surprised by Deni's sudden movement. Though Sue was less observing what Deni was doing and more reacting to her own personal space being taken up by the disguised harpy woman. This type of closeness just caused the familiar to blush further. Try as she might, she couldn't break her eyes away from Deni's gaze. Sue couldn't even find words to get her out of this awkward moment.

It didn't seem she had understood. Then their weakness had to be covered, immediately. Mariette trusted this task to Deni, to explain her move.

‘E-excuse me?’ Deni said, her voice shaking a little as she tried to sound accusatory. ‘Mood lighting? What is this meeting to you? A friendly get-together? Mistress has taken time from a very busy schedule to hear you out because we assumed you had something to say. We could be abducting a valuable Magical Girl right now! Why are we having this meeting? Why did you make that wish!?’ ... Deni made a mental apology to Sue. She didn't really like to accuse people like this, but she had to take an aggressive stance to explain her aggressive movement.

Mariette quietly judged Deni's attempt. It wasn't perfect, her voice had shown bits of fear that wasn't optimal, but given the circumstances she couldn't be faulted. None of them had expected that.

“W-what?” Sue hugged herself. Part of her wanted to cry, and the other part wanted to run in terror. But she had used an entire wish on this meeting, and she wasn't about to let it go to waste. “Okay.... okay...” Sue calmed herself down. “I'll answer that question for you, but you need to answer one of mine first.” Her voice was cracking. “How old are you guys really? I mean, you're magical girls so, your real age could be anything.”

‘Ngf.’ Deni made a noise, making herself calm down as well. She clutched with her fingers, intent on taking the lighter away from Sue while leaning back into her own seat again. Taking the lighter... just in case. Deni turned and sat straight in her chair and sighed. ‘None of us are older than 20.’ Deni said in a slightly annoyed tone, feeling no need to trouble Mariette with answering that. Mariette sat and stared as well, sipping a little from her cup. Deni couldn't calm down, feeling constantly on edge due to the presence of the unlit candle, but moving to remove it would perhaps tip off their bane...

“Alright.” Sue reached for the “stupid mood candle” and dragged it towards herself. “I guess for you guys to really understand...” Sue lowered the candle into her pocket book “If it wouldn't be too presumptuous, I'd like to tell you a story about Amber.” Sue rubbed her hands together under the table. “Well, believe it or not, that wasn't the first time Amber had been ambushed in an alleyway. Before she was a magical girl, she would occasionally leave the workplace late.” Sue giggled. “I'm sorry, every time she tells me a story about her past, she always makes sure I knew how beautiful she use to be. I think it's a little inappropriate given the environment, but she was tall and curvy. Like an amazon.” Sue had to wait a moment for her face to relax before continuing. “But on one late night, she was held up by a boy. Well, she said he was a boy, but he was a young man. Someone in his early twenties or late teens. He pointed a knife at her and demanded money.” Sue placed her hands on the edge of the table. “Now Amber was no magical girl, but she made sure she had something to protect herself with. Pepper spray, box opening knife, taser, it was overkill but she took her safety seriously. But she didn't use any of that stuff on the guy.” Sue closed her hands together. “Instead she offered him money, asked him if there was anything she could do for him. He didn't understand why she was being so nice to him. They went to a dinner and talked about his life a bit. It was actually this dinner if you can believe it.” Sue's smile widened. “And she offered him a job. And I hear he was pretty good at it too. So what I'd like to know is...” Sue pulled her hands apart again and placed them on the table before looking straight into the mirror. “...Would you like me to adopt you?”

So, Sue started telling her story. Deni kept an eye on the candle and what Sue was doing with it, otherwise just stayed leaned-back and listening, imagining how Amber might have looked. Mariette sat silent, listening, sitting and taking her time as the story went onwards to its point. Her thoughts on it... It told a point. One practically useless to her, but it told a point. Anyone may have the potential, if given a chance. But... they weren't ready for that suggestion.

‘Wha-’ Deni blinked in surprise as she turned her head at her with slightly widened eyes.

‘...’ Mariette raised her eyebrows at this statement, looking at her. Deni was speechless. So, then... ‘So you are likening us to the attacking boy, and you wish to offer an opportunity to do better?’ Mariette asked, her tone exceedingly neutral, in control. Deni looked back and forth between them, and then ended up awaiting Sue's answer with her.

Sue's smile vanished, She wasn't getting mad, but she looked focused, determined. “The story was just an explanation for what inspired me to make the wish.” Sue leaned back in her seat. “We could liken you to the boy in the story, but that would make me Amber. And if Amber would be here, why did she choose not to come?” the familiar let out a groan and looked away from the mirror. “J-just think more about the offer than the story. It will always be open to you, I'm sure you can find me if you choose to accept it.”

Mariette sat, staring forward at Sue with her one visible eye feeling like it was trying to drill a hole through her. So Amber could have been here, but choose not to? Understandable enough, they were her attackers. And the circumstances of said attack certainly differed from those in the story. Mariette had not been desperate in her attack. It had been entirely calculated, and hadn’t it been for a few unexpected tumbles, it would have been Mariette’s victory. Regardless, that did not factor into the current matter. Mariette discarded that train of thought, and returned to the matter at hand. The familiar wanted to adopt her…

She suddenly blew out air a little harder than regularly from her nose. Then she did it again. She leaned her head forward as the action repeated itself, her free hand reaching to block the noise it made. It was fairly easy to discern as held-back giggling. For numerous seconds, Mariette had to focus on overcoming this fit of amusement. The familiar… wanted to adopt her. Th-that was… too much… Meanwhile, Deni blinked and watched Mariette’s reaction with somewhat interested eyes.

‘… Aaaaah…’ Mariette finally calmed down enough to breathe in, looking up at Sue with amused eyes, traces of a smile on her lips. ‘I wonder what would have happened… Had you been there before…’ She left something unsaid, but she smiled a bit more, and then changed line-of-thought. ‘... I wonder, at the end of this tale, where will I be? What’s the fate of a toy belonging to an ancient horror, successful or not? Haha…’ She held her arm over her mouth so she could calm out without improper noise. ‘… I consider it unlikely… but if I find that I have nowhere to go at the end of all this… I might just come take you up on that offer. Okay…?’ She then turned her head away because she was embarrassed by showing herself this amused. But, yikes… adopting her, huh… Haha…

‘Hey, I’m supposed to be the giggling one.’ Deni grinned and looked at Mariette through the mirror. Mariette gave no reply.

Sue would have had a stronger reaction to what Mariette said, but she was starting to feel worn down holding up her human form for so long. There was so much about this group that she didn't understand. Sue doubted she could hold her form long enough to get to the bottom of it. “Well.” Sue cleared her throat. “Some new friends of mine are going to be joining us shortly, so if you wouldn't mind holding for a bit, I would appreciate it.”

‘… Hm?’ If there was anything that could quickly sober up Mariette from her state of amusement, it was the mention that there were more people here. She looked over at Sue through the mirror with focused wariness, and Deni looked over too.

"O-oh, Um. I figured it would be okay. They shouldn't be long now." And Sue sincerely hoped they weren't. Amber would be furious if something went wrong now.

‘Oooh! Does that mean we should call in our friends, too?’ Deni asked with a suddenly big smile.

Mariette's expression twitched a little, as this was still possibly an ambush, but said friends were not enemies of Amber, so she eventually ruled Deni's comment to be fine.

The week, as it so happened, and been fairly uneventful. Alicia had met with Penny a couple times in the name of getting to know her better. She had also helped with Janet's training when necessary to bring her more into the lifestyle that Beacon espoused. And there was the usual patrols, hunts, that sort of thing. Nothing which indicated that anything was amiss.

Yet she knew that that wasn't the case. Things were getting more tense, Beacon members getting harassed by other girls closer to their turf, and not even the kind that were necessarily monsters or dark magical girls either. The incident at the park had poisoned the well, and the fact of the matter remained that there wasn't exactly any way for Beacon to earn peoples trust back when they couldn't exactly make a show of their good intentions. The decentralization didn't help, much less the hardliners within the organization itself.

She'd done some asking around herself, but what she found out wasn't of much use. They had the body of the girl that had sparked the incident but hadn't been able to bring her back alive obviously. Well, if you didn't mind the rumors that the corpse was a fake. But that was patently ridiculous. What kind of fake could be created that could trick the brightest minds that Beacon had? That was just the problem when dealing with magic. There were too many possibilities for how this incident had happened to account for them all. And unfortunately Occam's Razor meant that they didn't exactly get the benefit of the doubt.

Still, at that point she had to leave it be. Surely the Beckoners were working on it, and it didn't seem like there was any room to contribute when she had no evidence to go on. All that they could do was focus on protecting their own, and making sure that Beacon stood ready for whatever hardship came its way. They might be hated but they still had their unity and their loyalty to each other. As long as they had that, they would be strong.

At the moment, she was on patrol. Well, not so much patrol as a reconnaissance mission. There'd been rumors of a monster girl nest encroaching on Beacon turf, one of those groups that had decided they wanted to be a bit bolder now that Beacon was on the backfoot. That was why she was here now, to see whether it was true and how much of a problem it would be. If they were gonna be raising trouble then they would have to be dealt with. Simple as that.

She was currently in her civilian guise as she walked down the busy sidewalk, glancing at the sticky not with the address on it. It was after school and she was on the move now, much like everyone else. The hope was that the monster girls would be out doing monster girl things at the moment, allowing her to sneak in and look the place over before they got back. She might find some evidence that would make the decision easier and more factually supported.

"Guess this is is." The girl came to a stop in front of an old garage, where they had set up shop. It gave them some privacy while still having access to people that they might need. Alicia moved into the alley without hesitation, slipping towards the back as she searched for windows. Those she would use to see if anyone was there at the moment, while she also looked for potential magical signatures. Either would validate what she had been told.

A nod to herself as she arrived in back. "looks like no one is home." It was nice when things went to plan. Arriving at the back door, she tested to see whether it was locked before moving to force the lock open if she had to. Once inside she would begin hr investigation of the place, to see if there was anything that indicated hostile intent. She hadn't imagined breaking and entering would be par of her career as a magical girl, but for this it couldn't be helped. Time to get to work

:Request Relay:

”So, you will be able to get that stuff to me in about a week?” Penny clarified as she jumped to a different roof. She was currently talking to someone one her phone, the fact she was holding nearly arm’s length from her as she waited for the reply would make it easy to assume who.

“Yes, Along With A Few Other Supplies That Ought Be Of Use, Considering Thy Companions” Came the booming answer form her phone, Laat wasn’t as loud as normal since He wasn't there in person, but he was still loud enough that people would be giving Penny odd looks if she was on the ground.

“Alright Thanks” She stated before closing her phone without waiting for a response giving out a sigh of relief as she did. She wasn’t quite sure how to feel about Laat’Alofan and talking to him never made her feel better. Still she hadn’t expected that the contact listed as “demolition supplies” in her phone to be his, granted it was only to be used to request demolition supplies, but how many people can say they have a god on speed dial?

Never the less she was able to order a few of the things she had fantasizing about using on the castle she was informed about earlier. A few Law rocket and a few pounds of Semtex, plus whatever Laat was tossing in.

Putting her phone away she couldn’t help the crooked grin that spread out on her face as she tried to push such thoughts away. It dropped a bit when she looked around and couldn’t see Thalia nearby. Penny had asked for some privacy as she called Laat, mainly so she would be able to finish the conversation without her face heating up, but it seemed as if they ended up losing other during the call. Or Thalia was stalking her in a bid to embarrass her again; she wouldn’t put it past the Fox girl.

With a shrug she turned to head ‘home’ as it was the one place they both knew well. Along the way she reviewed the updates from Beacon that had trickled in over the past week, nothing too major outside of the kidnapping that had happened earlier today. As she was looking over the updates she got a new one

You are currently in the vicinity of agent Alicia, Their task is recon on a suspected Monster Nest, are you capable of assisting?
Beacon Updates

She replied with an affirmative and the address was forwarded to her. With a nod she set off to rendezvous with Alicia.

She had gotten other request for help, normally it was fire support in case someone was getting over whelmed, but this was the first time a recon task was assigned, she was guessing it was because Alicia knew her as not a lot of the other members of Beacon did yet.

It didn’t take her long to get to the garage, and she had to admit it wasn’t a bad spot, it did rankle her how close it felt to her own lair however. Jumping down from the roof she landed softly in the back alleyway, and easily spotted who she was here to help.

“Hey Alicia” Penny greeted as took a look around “Seems someone didn’t want you flying solo” she added when she noticed they were the only two in the alley.

Alicia had just finished cracking the door open with a small grin to herself when she found her efforts interrupted. Spinning on her heels, her fingers spread as she prepared to transform and conjure her bow for a fight. That would be very unfortunate, to find herself discovered now when she was about to break in.

Upon seeing who it was she relaxed, a sigh of relief escaping as she straightened up. "Oh, hello Penny," she said with a nod as she stepped back towards the door. "It does seem that way. I appreciate it, even if it seems a tad unnecessary at this point." if there was no one around to stop her then she didn't need extra firepower. But still, having an extra pair of eyes could be helpful when they were carrying out their mission. Penny might see something that she missed.

Carefully she opened the door, stepping to the side and gesturing for Penny to lead the way. "Normally we wouldn't be this close to Beacon territory but with everything that's happened I guess the opportunists have decided to test their luck. we're just making sure that the information we have is right before we deal with the problem."

Once Penny had entered she moved into the building as well, closing the door behind them. Her gaze swept the dilapidated room as she moved forwards. "Keep your eyes peeled. We're looking for any signs that Monster Girls are here, and what they're planning to do if thy are." Which was easier said than done, but they had to make the effort. Who knew, maybe they'd get lucky. There was only one way to tell as she began the investigation.

Search? Yes. Destroy? No.

Penny stepped in to the rundown garage and felt sorry for whoever had to crash here, granted hers wasn’t much better but at least it was clean. Cautiously she started to look around for anything that might point out that this was a Monster girl residence, knowing that at her own place she had trapped it and hidden her bed, she stayed wary of any traps that might be around.

“While we are just looking around, I’ve got some news I wanted to pass along to you and the higher ups in Beacon.” She said as started digging through an abandoned tool shelf “Apperently there is someone by the name Justine that has a castle in the Overcity.” she explained as she pulled out a decent looking wrench, she looked it over a moment before pocketing it. Taking one last look she ventured off to rifle through one of the nearby tables.

“ The thing is, she might be responsible for the tensions between you guys and the rest of the people getting worse and for the crazed girl at the park meeting” The table was a bust, as far as Penny could tell, with a shrug she went over to the car lifts, one of them was extended to as high as it could go. Hopefully it was hiding something; she kept talking as she walked.

“ Not sure how valid it is, mind you, as I got the info second hand from Alex and Lily. Both of them are normal Magical girls, ands far as I am aware neither of them holds a grudge against The Bacon.” She continued not noticing her slip up at the name; she had spent the last week listening to Thalia call them Bacon every time it came up. “Though Alex, did rail against your anti-monster mentality due to what happened to Lily when she went berserk, but I’m thinking that was just a misunderstanding myself.”

Alicia carefully proceeded through the garage her eyes peeled for potential traps that might be sprung on intruders. She also was looking for that evidence that she had mentioned before, though at this point she could see visible dust. But they hadn't explored much of the building yet, so there was still time for them to find something.

"Hm?" Alicia glanced over to Penny as their ally indicated that she had something that she wanted to share at this point. The information she had, once said, was definitely interesting. So there was someone in the Overcity who may have been pulling the strings? It would explain some things, even if they had no evidence to go with it.

"I see, we'll look into that," she said once Penny had finished. A frown escaped at the mention of where it had com from, the names ringing a bell. Unfortunately there were a lot of people with that name so she couldn't immediately place who it was until Penny went on, and understanding quickly dawned. Right, the duo from the hospital. That just left her to wonder where they had gotten the information from, and why they hadn't felt like bringing this to the attention of Beacon.

An eyebrow rose at the mention of bacon, but she quickly moved past that to address the thing at the hospital. "It was," she confirmed with a nod. "A sudden transformation like that in the middle of a battle...we weren't sure if she would go on a rampage and put more innocents in danger. Suwako was a bit more forceful than she needed to be and didn't expect it to light on fire like it did." A sigh then as she looked around the piles of punk in the corner. "Still, I'm not surprised by that kind of attitude towards us. I suppose it's easier for magical girls in general to think that way." And unfortunately there was nothing they could do to change it while still being Beacon. Oh well, at least you got used to it eventually

Several days later, Julia and Jillian found themselves seated in a park, clad in their transformations and amidst a sparse collection of families here and there. Perhaps if it were any other pair of magical girls, those surrounding them would have paid the odd pair and their equally odd appearances more attention.

Fortunately for them, the ghostly girls were rather difficult to notice in the first place, even when Julia wasn't actively massaging the minds of those around them to pay them no mind, to hold no long-term memory of them or pay their translucent, ethereal shapes any mind. Maybe they would inspire a ghost story or two if anyone was taking pictures, but they were safe from the average citizen's eyes.

Julia sat with her hands placed upon her lap, her eyes closed as she focused upon her self-imposed training regime. Jillian, on the other hand, was leaned up against the back of the bench, her eyes closed for an entirely different reason; Another sleepless night had lead to them doing this at nearly 6:00 in the morning. She'd learned to appreciate resting her eyes whenever she could.

For a while, they sat quietly in the tranquil, cool air of dawn, as darkness made way for the sun crawling up. That is, until they heard a rustle coming from a nearby tree. Then, Julia sensed her again; Caroline lowered herself down from the tree, hanging upside down from her legs. Her wings were folded on her back, so she resembled a playful child. But, the twins knew that she resembled a bat more with her unusual method of idleness.

"Hi Tutu, hi Turkey, hehe~ Caroline is happy to see...friends again. Caroline also brought...gifts!"
She reached for under her dress, and pulled out a strange object, resembling a black crystal; she gave it to Jillian.
"Big sister uses these to talk with her friends, so...Caroline stole one! Now Caroline can talk with friends anywhere! Yay!"

Jillian was able to hide her surprise with a quick mental warning from Julia, straightening out and smiling as she spotted Caroline. In a way, it was vindicating; she had been right about the girl being able to find them. Julia knew it too, and offered the girl a patient smile as she butchered their names once more. "Hello again, Caroline. It's good to see you too." Jillian greeted her, with Julia's nod of agreement not far behind. It was, too; the possibility that they had lost all contact with the girl had been heavy and worrying.

And now, the girl brought with her a method of clear magical communication... Albeit with rather ominous possible drawbacks. The object floated out of Jillian's hands without prompting, coming to hover between Julia's as she examined it with a keen eye. She didn't trust the thing, and her natural assumption was that it was also probably a method for tracking.

Jillian's focus remained upon Caroline. "That sounds lovely, Caroline. I'm so glad we have a way to keep in touch, now. I hope your sister won't mind this gift to us..." She paused for a moment. "If she would, please don't mention us, okay? You don't have to share your friends." she added, winking conspiratorially. She did not know who Caroline's sister was, but presumably she was equally threatening.

Caroline giggled, her smile as sweet as sugar. "Hehe...Big sister doesn't know. She will be angry, but...She will not be gentle with Caroline, hehe~" Then she giggled more creepily, her fangs showing from her parted lips. She then blinked at Jillian's request.
"Hmm...okay! Caroline has to share...dolls and sweet red...with big sister, but she never...shares her friends with Caroline, so Caroline will do the same!"

She dropped down from the tree, and leapt at Jillian with her arms out and mouth in a wide smile. "Hahaaa, friends!" She passed right through, landing on her face comically, but the ghostly girl still felt an uneasy tingle from the contact with her.
"Heheee...Uhhh, what do friends do? Do they punch each other? Do they bite each other, or scratch?" She asked with an eager gaze at the two.

A masochist. Julia intoned mentally, conveying all of the deadpan that her face failed to show with its pleasant smile. Jillian's response did not come in the form of words, but more the mental impression of an apologetic shrug as she shook off the feeling of Caroline passing through her form.

"Unfortunately, we can't really do anything like that with each other, and friends don't really do that unless they're a very rough kind of friend." the ghostly girl replied apologetically, shrugging, before offering a smile and extending a finger. "But, friends do spend time together, and talk about themselves, for one thing. Would you like to spend some time and tell us about yourself, Caroline?"

"We're very interested in hearing more about you." Julia added, nodding.

Caroline had her mouth open in puzzlement as she listened. "There are different kinds of friends? So you're the airhead kind of friends! Haha!"
She blinked her eyes.
"Uhh, okay. Caroline has a big sister named Justine, and she's really cool. Caroline wishes to be just like her. She talks a lot about making Caroline pure, but Caroline doesn't understand. But she's really nice; she collects lots of dolls with long, long hair for Caroline to play with! Caroline can't wait! Caroline wants to invite her friends, but home is hard to reach; big sister calls it Overcity, but Caroline doesn't understand that, either."

Sadomasochist. Jillian corrected her other self mentally, some small part of herself sinking back at Caroline's words, even as Julia processed and stored the knowledge of Caroline's sister. But outwardly, the empath's smile refused to break; anyone could be a friend, with the right words and attitude. Caroline struck her as a very broken soul, and those were vulnerable to friendship. Unstable, though.

She suppressed the sympathy that came with that thought; there might be a time to help Caroline properly in the future, drive her towards the truth and love of the Panopticon, but the future was uncertain. "You're a very interesting girl, Caroline. Let's talk about your dolls. That aura you went after a few days ago, did it belong to a long-haired doll? We'd like to know about whoever was making such a silly show of themselves." Perhaps it was dangerous ground to tread, but knowledge was power.

Julia, meanwhile, tucked the stone Caroline had given them up into her sleeve, where it was deposited into her personal hammerspace.

"Hehe...You want to learn a lot about Caroline, huh? Big sister likes to keep secrets, and hates it when they are told. Caroline understands; surprises are not fun if they're not surprises." She bounced around a bit, seemingly distractd by something before she continued. "Ow-ra? Is that what makes Caroline angry? Caroline found two dolls that made Caroline angry with Ow-ra; one doll was a boy, and Caroline hates boy dolls! The other was a long-haired girl doll without a shirt! Caroline thought that was weird. Oh, and both had horns on their heads. Nnnhh..."

The vampiric girl then turned uncomfortable.
"Um, Caroline doesn't want to tell what happened with the dolls; it is a painful memory, and Caroline turns sad from painful memories." She next looked at Julia.
"Now it's Caroline's turn to ask! Why are you ghosts?"

Twins, you think? Jillian asked mentally, turning to shoot an inquisitive look to her other self. Julia offered a small shrug in response, her smile twitching slightly as Caroline spoke. Being civil was not her greatest skill; that was the domain of Jillian, who did most of the speaking for her.

And to be inquired upon so rudely.. Julia shook it off, chuckling at the question. "The gift of our patron, dear Caroline. I won't pretend to understand what it represents, but it's been... Helpful." As if to demonstrate, a rock near the bench she floated an inch above shot through the air, passing through her hand. She squeezed it into a fist, suppressing a wince at the discomfort the demonstration brought. "It's rather 'neat', don't you think?"

"Wow, it's super cool!" Caroline squeed with glinting eyes. She then saw how the sun was now startintg to shine.
"Uu-oh. Caroline has to leave now. Call Caroline, and let's have fun again, hehee~!" And with that, Caroline shot off into the sky, partially blending with it so she was harder to see, until she disappeared into the distance.

"Good-" And then the strange, ominous girl was gone. Blinking owlishly, the taller of the two lowered her raised arm. That was fast. And strange. She finally looked back over her shoulder when Julia didn't respond. The psychic of the two had her gaze fixed upon the sky, her eyes squinted and her hand held up to shield them from the last rays of light. The sheen through her transparent flesh created an interesting and eerie effect. Julia?

Mm. It's nothing, dear. This has been eye-opening. Many new questions of course, but... Jillian did not respond, content to allow Julia to murmur to herself; she was quite adept at telling when her other self actually expected an answer. Well, I guess we should be going. It's getting late.

"Hmm, this is the place, right?" Lily asked Alex behind her as she zoomed through the streets with her magical motorcycle. She Cut a tight corner by actually driving horizontally on a wall, and then jumped as they hit the parking lot of the Pit Stop.
"Scale does have good taste, though; this diner looks cool." She parked her vehicle behind the diner and untransformed, looking like her usual self again. "Hey Alex, do you mind if you stay back and keep your barriers up? I'm a bit vulnerable when out of my magical girl state. See ya soon!"

She then walked inside, giving a bright smile to all the customers as she passed by them with a perky step, almost hopping along. She soon found Sue, and practically jumped into the seat next to her, wrapping an arm around the familiar. Her eyes glinted at the sight of the beautiful girl. "Hi there! Wow, you're really pretty, miss. I'm Lily, Sue's friend, nice to meet you!" She offered a hand to her, but before Deni could respond her attention was diverted by what she saw next to her. "Mariette! Oh, it's so good to see you! I've been looking all over this city for you! You sure are a master at hide-n-seek with those portals of yours. Could you lend us one to Overcity? We need to speak with Justine von Visceral!"
She then pouted, seeing as her words didn't change the gloomy girl's expression in the slightest.
"Please?"
