[OOC] One Piece: The Blackfin Chronicles

@Blackstripe I was hoping for something more permanent and not something that I could just turn on and off at will. Also, instead of having the option of what features to make use of, I'd just be stuck with certain aspects instead. Kinda like Fishman, but with a non-aquatic animal. And not like a mink, which is just like an anthropological animal.

Not EVERY Strawhat was super-weird. In fact, only Chopper, Franky and Brook could be said to fit that. Where's the Zoro, Sanji, Ussop and Nami?

@Blackstripe Oh, it wasn't voluntary. My character would be a failed attempt in making a beast-like soldier. The goal would be to mass produce them, but since whoever made him lacked the intellect of Vegapunk and Cessation, they just ended up with a single spliced human.

That's exactly what I'm going for, something inferior. I'm assuming production of SMILEs has ceased too.

Aside from not really having a purposes since they'd gain their freedom just recently, they had to battle their animalistic urges too.

But if you're against it, I'll just think of something else.

On the plus side, my CS is mostly done. The minus side is that I am terrible at thinking of names for characters. Does anyone know where I could go to get some ideas?

@ZapdosYou could always take normal words and put a twist on them.

One of Oda's earliest characters also had one of my very favorite names: "Gill Bastar", derived from "Kill Bastard".

@Prewiga Sounds good. @Blackstripe I'm mentioning you since I am posting the CS here, although it's technically a draft since I don't know the guy's name yet. Maybe I'll research famous doctors and use one or more of their names like a One Piece character. I like that concept actually, so I'll have to research that tomorrow. Here's the CS so you can look over it now, (X = a placeholder for the guy's name) so let me know if any changes are needed. I need sleep though since it's late, so I'm going to bed.

Edit: twisting normal words also sounds good. Again though, I'll think about it more tomorrow. Thanks!

3 AM Character Sheet

Gender: Male
Age: 19
Species: Human
Height: 5’9”
Weight: 160 pounds
Appearance: X has black hair, blue eyes, and white skin. He wears a white doctor’s jacket (because he can), but it usually isn’t buttoned and he has a blue t-shirt on underneath. X also wears shorts and a plain pair of shoes. He also usually has his duffel bag filled with medical tools and other items near him in case something happens.
Devil Fruit(if any): None (calling dibs on the Mera Mera no Mi for later though :-P)
Weapons: Various medical equipment and improvised tools he uses as medical equipment, if that counts. I guess he could stab someone with his scalpel or something. He also some ingredients that he uses in his treatments along with miscellaneous items that he keeps around in a duffel bag “just in case.” Strangely enough, “just in case” usually ends up happening.
Skills:

Medicine: X is a self-taught doctor. His medical techniques aren’t always conventional and can result in pain for the patient, but they usually end up alive at the end.

Improvising: living on a remote island and having to teach himself medicine really gave X a talent for creating solutions with whatever was around. This extends to creating medicine, knowledge of plants, and so on.

Background:

X grew up in a small town on a small island in East Blue. It wasn’t the wealthiest of places, but the people there were happy. It was pretty far away from the main hubs of East Blue, so not many people went there. This was fine for the residents until the island’s doctor passed away; now they were without convenient medical care and the islanders were too poor to pay high wages to attract another doctor to their town.

Sailing to a place with medical care usually wasn’t an issue, until one day X’s little brother got stricken by a terrible disease. By the time his parents were able to bring him to a doctor, he had already died. X was angry that he was unable to do anything about it and felt like he needed to do something, anything that he could. He decided on that day to teach himself medicine so that nobody else would suffer the fate his brother did. Being 13, it never occurred to him that this might be hard or that he might not be able to do it. Instead, using the books and tools left behind by the old doctor, X taught himself medicine. Some of his techniques are less than conventional, but he usually gets good results.

He probably would have lived out his days as the island’s doctor if not for a certain incident. One day, a notorious pirate crew sailed into the town. They were seriously weakened from a battle they had fought with the government, so the village could’ve fought them off, but they weren’t there for plunder: the captain’s son was seriously ill. X could have refused them medical care since they were pirates, but after some thinking and introspection, he felt like he couldn’t do that. They also offered him a pretty good payment for this treatment, which helped influence his decision as well. Let’s just say there’s a reason the new medical clinic on the island was built shortly after that.

Of course, after this X could no longer live a simple life, so he took up piracy almost by default. Doctors are usually in demand, so even without too much skill in combat he had no trouble finding different crews to join. Even so, he has yet to find the one crew he feels like he could stay with for the long term. He knows that he enjoys helping people and wants to become a great doctor, but unlike many pirates X doesn’t quite know what else he should do with his life right now.

@ZapdosOkay, I don't have any real problems with your character sheet, so you're approved. Though I am curious as to why he-a man who is motivated primarily to help people-chose to become a pirate as his first instinct. Piracy isn't the go-to profession for helping people, after all. XD

@Zapdos Google has informed me that someone by the name of Hamilton Naki was a self-taught physician or some sorts. You could make use of that or alter it with something like onomatopoeias. Of brining or fire perhaps? Mera Mera is for things that suddenly combust, so definitely not that.

@Blackstripe I'm also assuming that it's a no for the splicing.

@PrewigaEh, I don't know. People throw out a lot of ideas without considering how they're going to fit into the crew or in what ways they'll be useful. We have so many slots still open, but so far only the Shipwright and Doctor have been claimed. I would just like people to take it easy on the really weird concepts until we get all the important positions filled.

Important position we still NEED: Cook.

If you're deadset on making a very odd character, then don't feel rushed. We wouldn't be meeting them until Paradise anyhow.

Anyway, I'd wanna fill a role that could at least contribute something to the group, but since I'm only comfortable with doctors, I'll just turn towards my fall backs, chefs.

He'll be around his late twenties or early thirties. A large, muscular man who's profession focuses on acquiring and bartering food and ingredients. No real physical abilities aside from being really strong. Whether I'll go with tame or weird from here would depend on your preference. I can do both.

He'll just be knowledgeable about ingredients and cooking. And would have an eye for food. His practical skills aren't that great though.

@PrewigaI'm a bit confused, is he a great chef or not? Thing is, my character has pretty high standards, as she IS out to find One Piece. She wouldn't accept just mediocre. Otherwise he sounds fine.

This goes for everyone, by the way. You don't have to be timid and hold back. This is our character's generation, and we're the stars of this "show". So don't be afraid to make them extremely good at the thing they're good at. :)

@Blackstripe He isn't a great chef, but he knows what you'd need to survive at sea. He's talents would be in judging the quality of the food/ingredient along with knowledge regarding it. Preparation would be something he'd need to work on. But if the crew needs an amazing chef, then I guess it wouldn't be this guy.

I mean, that's what I have so far. When the actual sheet comes up, I could change his skill level if I think of a better way to RP him.

@Blackstripe Since you mentioned it before, what are th captain's actual criteria when choosing crewmates? Was she looking for kindred spirits to travel with or the best at what they did to prepare for their search for One Piece?
